The last time I dined at a Chevy's was in 2021 for their 35th year anniversary in Emeryville. It was a fun night for that occasion. Moving forward to today, I wonder if their food is still good. After perusing the menu, my daughter and I opted for the luncheon menu. I only had $20 in my purse. The only item that sounded appealing was the Mexican pizza for $15.75. Eats: Daughter had the steak fajitas platter with rice and refried beans. I had the Mexican pizza, which was loaded with chorizo, black beans, jack cheese, and topped with cotija cheese, pico de gallo, chipotle aioli, a small amount of cilantro and pickled red onion. I nixed it on the jalapeño. What I ate was okay, nothing to write home to mom about. Part of the pizza lacked seasonings and then part of it was a tad salty. Service was quick, as they were not busy. Let me regale with a story. We have gone to the chevys for my bros bday since he was 15 years old. At this point it's really just a nostalgia factor. The past two have been pretty bad service. This latest bday was horrendous. Birthday boy had to wait 45 minutes just to find out him and his kids orders were never put in. Everyone else at the table was almost done with their food before he found out his wasn't coming. His bday is like the one day he gets out and celebrates. It's not the biggest deal even though it was a very non busy night. There was one other small table in our section. They finally got the food and we can visibly and physically see that the food had died in the window. We had a few choice words with the manager. It wasn't bad or anything. We mentioned it's his bday everything is okay but we could use a little better service. My bro was really reserved. He does not like to get confrontational. Finally dessert rolled around. They brought us the desert. It looked phenomenal. They didn't sing which is fine we are adults. We started eating our dessert and we saw them grab the tambourines and proceed to sing happy bday to three other tables in the restaurant. My brother was heart broken. Went here with co-workers to catch up since we haven't seen each other in a long time. Wish it was a better experience as from the beginning everything just felt rushed from the person helping us. We picked a table to sit at and as we all sat down we were already asked if we knew what we wanted to order. No introduction and I'll get you waters while I give you time to look at the menu. We let him know we need a minute and then ordered our drinks and food at the same time when he came back. We were talking and eating when he came back and asked if I needed a box. I was confused because I was still eating so I let him know that I'm still eating. We are still talking and eating when he came back and told us if we wanted to settle our bill as he is going on break. We decide to settle the bill and asked him if we can stay since we still wanted to catch up and he said yes. Two of us went to Chevys around 9:15p and asked to sit in the restaurant (instead of the cantina aka bar area). After a few mins wait and some hesitation from the staff, we were seated at a booth that needed to be wiped down. Our server (Eduardo) arrived and was clearly in a flurry as it looked like he was the only server for the entire area. But he was great-- this low star review has nothing to do with him. It's the food. Not just the portion size, but the quality too. - free chips and salsa: always love the chips. Salsa was very salty, there were pockets of extreme saltiness -fish tacos: fish was rubbery and smelled very fishy. Could not even cut one of the pieces with a knife. The piece of fish per taco was also comically small, as if it originally had a whole filet that was cut in half (see photo) -enchilada: did not like the red sauce, something in it has changed -rice (red): had a smoky flavor, did not enjoy -rice (cilantro lime): ok, cooked fine but not much flavor -corn tamalito: this was always my favorite part of any Chevy's experience. Portion size used to be a large ice-cream scoop. Now it's more like a cookie scoop (heaping 1 tbsp). We shared it anyway And that 5% surcharge they add on, regardless of how many people? I don't like it. I guess that's how things are going these days, but it stings extra when the food isn't even good. Women's restroom was a disaster. Three stalls. The two regular sized stalls were out of order. One had a sign blocking it off, the other just had a toilet full of ... toilet things. We celebrated a birthday here about 2 weeks ago and everyone enjoyed themselves. My only complaint was that my steak and shrimp dish looked a bit sloppy but it tasted good so no big deal. The Margarita flight was good although it tasted like each one had only a drop of tequila in it. Haha The birthday girl chose Chevy's for lunch because she wanted to wear the sombrero while everyone sang "Happy Birthday". We were informed that they no longer to that because of COVID but when it was time for dessert, our wonderful server Blanca surprised her with a sombrero for her to wear AND keep with tags still on it and everything. Came into pick up a DoorDash order, yet none of the two kids checked up on the order for a long period of time, but only chatting to each other. They said 10-15mins to every orders, but it's clearly taking longer than 15mins. As I stand here to wait to pickup my order, I can see more clearly of their incompetence. Their energy level is extremely low to customers but only to each others. I can barely hear their greetings or any sincerity. They should not be working if they don't feel like working. We had a small seating hiccup when we first arrived at the cantina area, but once we were seated in the dining section everything turned around. One of the worst Chevy's locations I've visited. Every time I come to this location, whether it's for pickup or dine-in, the service is consistently disappointing. The restaurant always seems understaffed, orders are frequently wrong, the packaging is sloppy, and management has been disrespectful instead of helpful when issues are brought to their attention. There is little to no sense of urgency, organization, or basic customer service. What makes it worse is that this has not been a one-time experience. I've given this location multiple chances, and the same problems keep happening. The overall vibe does not reflect what you would expect from Chevy's at all. At some point, poor service stops being an occasional mistake and becomes a management problem. This location seriously needs better staffing, training, accountability, and leadership. read more

The mexican rice on my husband's plate was horrible, did not taste like mexican rice. The corn tomalitos used to be soo good and they use to give an ice cream scoop size now it's dry, corn is rubbery and they give u a tablespoon size! We went to Chili's, and overall, the food was really good! We started with their chips and salsa, and honestly, it was such a great start. The chips were super fresh and crispy, and they come with salsa roja -- flavorful, just the right amount of spice, and best part? It's unlimited! Definitely worth ordering. Then we tried the Mexican Pizza, which was amazing. I'd definitely recommend it -- just make sure you eat it soon after it arrives because it can get soggy if it sits for too long, and then it's hard to hold. We also got the Sampler Plate, and that's another must-try. You get to taste a little bit of everything, and it's all really good -- perfect for sharing. The only thing I didn't love was the drink selection. They don't have mocktails, and when we asked for virgin versions of cocktails, they said they couldn't make them. No ginger beer, Jarritos, or horchata either -- just regular sodas like Coke or Pepsi. Other than that, the food was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. I'd definitely recommend Chili's if you're craving some comfort food and good appetizers. At the end ordered flan, not good, you shouldn't taste egg in flan but in this we can taste. Okay as a starter, the food was great. I'm giving it 3 stars, however, because the host was rude. When we first got there, she greeted us normally and asked how many. The manager came over and apologized for the incident, she offered us free dessert, and was just kind. I'd like to add that throughout our dinner, the host would walk by and give us some rude looks which made us feel uncomfortable. We were never rude to her or the other guy, we just asked. We weren't rushing them at all, just wanted a time estimate. She really could've just told us that they deleted it on accident, didn't register it, thought they had called us, etc. There's a couple of situations that could've happened and they could've just been honest. Instead it seemed like she wanted to gaslight us into believing that we never joined the waitlist. Our server was an absolute sweetheart. She was so attentive and kind. Back in the day, I used to go to the Emeryville Chevy's semi-regularly, with my partner, and occasionally with coworkers for lunch or happy hour. It was a fun spot at a prime waterfront location, and it was a bummer when they closed. Since then, this Union City Chevy's is the one closest to home, and we periodically pop in when in the area. The service, once you get it, is always pretty good. The staff works hard, but it's obvious they're stretched too thin. It's a big restaurant, and gets very busy at times. There is not enough staff to keep up with the volume, especially during busy periods. The food is typical Tex-Mex, tasty and satisfying. We usually get a quesadilla or some tacos. The shrimp fajitas are great too. I really like their house tortilla chips, they're very thin and easy to munch on, unlike those thick fried tortillas you find at some places that you can break a tooth on. Drinks are always good too, with a variety of traditional and flavored margaritas, and other bevies that they're happy to customize to your taste. Nice establishment and experience overall, and props to the hardworking staff, but owners, please hire more people! This was a really good lunch/ dinner service. We waited about 10 minutes to sit because it was a bit packed. Once we sat, chips and salsa came out quickly and we placed our orders right after. I loved that the kids menu with some form of a play-doh for the kiddos. They also had a balloon artist who made my friend's daughter the cutest flower and teddy bear combo. We chose to do the happy hour in the cantina and It seemed like they provide smaller portions (even the regular menu) when you choose to sit in the cantina. Overall the food was okay and the service was okay. You can't really expect high end service or great quality food when coming here.
