    La Ensenada Sandwich
    Tiffie P.

Cute sandwich shop with a diner-like atmosphere in the middle of the industrial business area. Lunch time is busy at Pop's but the service is still fairly quick. Order your sandwich from the counter and then pay at the register. They have a fairly large menu with decent prices, and substitutions requests are usually doable. I found the sandwiches a little small.

I love this small shops in the middle of the business districts they never disappoint. Pop's was no different, they know how to make sandwiches! I've had two so far but I'm hoping to have a few more. When you come in you make a line to place your order and although long line their service was quick. Once I placed my sandwich order I waited in another line to pay. I ordered turkeycado and portofino. Turkeycado is definitely my favorite so far. They really know their portions. One request I would have is to write the orders down. I asked for no onions and still got red onions in the sandwich which was such a strong smell and taste. The portofino was good but I'll try fresh not oven roasted. Service was good for a deli and fast.

So we decided to come eat in person after a hike and it was poppin' (no pun intended). The interior looked like it used to be a really cool diner of some sort. There is an non-operative bar and a pool table that doesn't seemed to be utilized since there's tables surrounding it. Well, the staff all seemed irritated and not too thrilled to be there. Maybe because it was lunch hour and they were busy. We ordered a Poorboy (as recommended by the staff) and a La Ensenada. The quality has gone downhill. There was no love put into the sandwich at all this time around. Maybe they changed up staff and ingredients, but the sandwiches were not doing it for me this time.

Pops is a staple in this area. Everyone I used to work with always tells me this is the best place to go to, next to Amy's. The place is a no frills deli, they have good food and good people. I can in early and the woman who helped me was hella nice, even though she was hella busy. I mean I can't be upset, just let her do her thing. I was in no rush. Onto the food, the pricing is way too good! The breakfast burrito and the sandwiches are worth al of it. It smacks immensely. Pops is a good place and I would like to sit and eat there.

Okay where have I been?!?! This sandwich spot is amazing and hidden within a business park, sort of like a hidden gem! The price is good (I believe it was $6.95 for the sandwich I got) and the quality is amazing! I got the pepper cheese steak and it was delish! I was able to finish the entire sandwich by myself in one sitting. Would I come here again? Of course yes!!! I definitely want to try the many sandwich flavors they have! Definitely a good lunch spot! In addition to the sandwich, I got broccoli and cheddar soup which was a bit watery to my liking. The dessert bars are good if you want something sweet afterwards!

Grubhub delivery 9/12/22 to work Ordered: Meatball sub--baguette and sauce very good, meatballs needs improvement Tuna stuffed avocado salad- it was good, FYI tuna is not plain it has mayo, relish and celery which I don't care for. Didn't come with dressing maybe it wasn't supposed to? Will order again but will try something new

    Vegalone Sandwich

Great spot for sandwiches, salads, and soups. We had the Oriental chicken salad, vegalone, taco salad, and nachos. The vegalone sandwich was perfect. The veggies were all crisp and fresh and cold and paired perfectly with a soft French roll and Italian dressing. The taco salad was a good size and served with salsa, no dressing required. The Oriental chicken salad and nachos (with queso) were both good. Service got a bit backed up, but when another worker returned, the line went fast. The value here is a definite plus. There wasn't a wait for food or a table. It was actually pretty empty. Such a homey vibe and the chefs/cooks were super friendly and attentive. They cooked our food outside on a grill vs a traditional kitchen. The prices are pretty good for all the food you get. They stack your plate! We really enjoyed all the food (chilaquiles rojos and the verdes with meat, and three quesabirrias). We couldn't finish it all! You can tell it's all homemade, which is nice. A lot of places don't make their chilaquiles sauce from scratch. We'd definitely return. The only thing I'd pass on is the Vietnamese coffee. Maybe it was our fault for ordering this at a Mexican spot, but it tasted more like cold brew than Vietnamese coffee.

They have seating in the back area but it still a bit snug and the tarps covering the area tend to make it warmer. For context, when I visited it was a beautiful day but it felt a bit hot due to the beaming sun on the tarps. The food definitely tastes like a homemade meal. It's good! I recommend sharing an entree, the servings here are very generous! I tried a Vietnamese coffee but it wasn't great. It was too sweet and tasted more like cafe de olla iced coffee. Prices seem fair, especially with the large portion sizes. I recommend you give a try!

The standout dish is the short rib massaman curry. The moment we took our first bite, we both looked at each other because it was that good! The short rib was incredibly tender and literally fell off the bone. The curry was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, it easily became the favorite dish of the night. The wait to order wasn't too long, maybe 15 minutes? While you wait, you pass by a display of cookies and they even have samples out for everyone to try. The staff was very nice, even though they were super busy! We tried: - Free chips & salsa: These are a must everytime I visit denica's. They are a great snack while you wait for your meal. 9/10 - The ube pancakes: These were pretty solid. I didn't think that the pancakes themselves had a very strong ube flavor, if any. I think all of the flavor was in the ube coconut sauce that they come with. However, there is only sauce on the first layer so you might want to get extra! It is an additional $2.75 or so to get the extra side of ube sauce, though. The pancakes themselves could have been a little more moist and fluffy, as they were a bit dry and dense. I loved the fruit and sauce, so that definitely made up for it! I'm glad that I got to try, but I don't think I'd get them again. Instead, I would get a regular pancake and a side of the ube coconut cream! 8/10 - The chorizo burrito: My bf said that this was also a pretty good option. He thought that it could have been a bit more flavorful, but was still satisfied with his meal! 7.5/10 - The side of hash browns: These were good, as to be expected! The portion was a bit small in comparison to other diners in the area. 7.5/10 Overall, I always enjoy my experiences at denica's! The vibes are always there, and they are such a convenient place to grab breakfast or brunch.

We sat in the back portion of the restaurant, which seems to possibly be a new addition for them? I'm not sure. I liked all of the picture framework in the front of house, with cute bacon and egg play on jokes. Menus are worn out. Could use a reprint or lamination, but that's minor. Food: Ordered the beignets, a corned beef hash breakfast meal (husband's dish), and a 3 egg pancake combo for myself. Yum! The beignets are more doughy than I expected, but tasted fresh. This is not your princess and the frog beignet, more of a doughnut puff type? I don't know how to describe it exactly, haha. The staff was accommodating in putting their vanilla and chocolate sauces on the side for dipping which I appreciated. Pancake was good, eggs cooked well (I love a place that knows how to cook a soft scramble), while their home fries are not what I expected (I think I typically prefer a more crispy potato), this showed me that I can possibly save myself time in the future when making at home. While not crispy, the home fries were delightful, entirely cooked through with a thin crisp edge. Staff: very kind! You know it is a family run business. The only thing I found mildly off putting was that one of the young servers wore his pajama bottoms. It did not feel like something a server should wear. But, if the place is a "come as you are" kind of a place, I understand. Overall: we will come back. Good food for a good price. Overall a good atmosphere and positive vibe. They came out buttery and piping hot, even with little hand-stamped letters on them so you know what you're eating, and it was so delicious. Most are about $5.50 each. Add oregano chimichurri for a bit extra if you want or pair with a tea, but these empanadas really hit the snacky spot.
