I went for dinner here last week and ordered the shredded chicken burrito. It was moist, tasty and a great size. The servers were all very friendly, accommodating and quick at getting us a table. We loved the food and drinks so much we came back again today and had another great experience. I hadn't been here in many years before this and I have to say this place has really become a hidden gem in Newark. The food, atmosphere and workers are amazing. I came here with friend who recommended this place. It has nice casual ambiance and friendly staff. Service is bit slow. We had all vegetarian food. There are lots of options that can be vegetarian upon request. Loaded nachos are super yummy and very feeling. Enchiladas with chile verde is very delicious. Chile relleno is regular. Vegetarian crunchy tacos and quesadillas have lots of veggies like zucchini, mushrooms etc. it made our day !! The environment is clean, and the restrooms are spotless! It's spacious with plenty of seating. The atmosphere is fantastic! Plus, they have singing on Fridays! Every dish is generous in portion and absolutely delicious. It's perfect for friends and family gatherings, and great for birthday celebrations! Came here with a group of ladies for a mom's night out and we had the BEST time! Food was AMAZiNG and came out super fast! I also had a passion fruit margarita and it was delicious . Later in the night they turned down the dining lights and on the party lights and did karaoke and it was SO fun! So glad I found this place. But it's not so great because the food takes forever to come out. That is the only downside to dining here. The food is pretty good. It is a little on the pricey side, but their portions are great. The food is very fresh and tasty. I don't have any complaints about the food. Sometimes, they can be a bit inconsistent, though. We ordered the mini chimichangas twice already. Once, they just placed 3 on a plate and called it a day. The second time we ordered them, they made a very nice presentation with guacamole, fresh slices of tomatoes, sour cream, and shredded cheese. I have lived in Newark for 39 years. I have been in this establishment twice. The first time was for business (and didn't eat) and today it was to eat. La Cabana has been completely revamped and under new management!! The service was top tier, and the food, well, let's just say I didn't think you could make a street taco sexier than what they served. The presentation was clean and screamed, "Eat me!" Once I dove in, OMG, to die for. Marinated carne asada, purple onions that were soaked in probably a pickled vinegar had a tangy flavor, topped with verde salsa and cojita cheese. Visiting from So Cal I was looking for a good menudo spot- the place I wanted to get from was closed so I yelped near by Mexican restaurants and found this place a mile away- I was hesitant at first because place looked a bit empty. Entering the restaurant I was greeted and waited patiently to order- restaurant was very clean! It has big screen tv's with sports on and I also noticed they have a bar. I ordered 1/2 menudo and a Jamaica to go .. a gentleman brought out the drink and first sip I knew it was authentic!- rushed to my daughters place to try the menudo and let me tell you!!! I found my new spot!!! Meat is very tender (soft) flavorful, clean which is the most important thing for me- menudo pieces were cut it edible pieces not too large and the hominy was delicious! No handmade tortillas but I'll take delicious menudo before handmade tortillas any day! Thank you La cabana for not disappointing me!! Menudo was delicious!!! It's always funny when people think I don't speak and understand Spanish. While I waited 10 minutes to pickup my order, an employee and customer had a very inappropriate conversation, even referencing how long they were making me wait and laughing. My order was $11 more than I was quoted on the phone and higher than their website and the prices Yelp had listed. When I asked about the discrepancy the employee acted like he didn't understand what I was saying. Classic. I was hungry and had kids waiting for their food so I had no choice but to pay. And about that food...average at best. Not much flavor and overcooked. What a terrible mistake it was to give this restaurant a chance. The atmosphere during the day was extremely depressing. Few people drinking at the bar and only one table, with two people eating. This place is a step above a dive bar. Minus one star for not having real Ranch dressing. Our most recent dinner here 2 days ago we added the green dinner salad (extra charge) to our meals, both with Ranch dressing. I know Ranch when I taste it and this wasn't it and my dinner companion agreed. Tasted mainly like plain mayo with maybe their own spices (if any) to attempt to make their own homemade ranch - it was not good. We love this place, but this deserves mentioning. Quaint restaurant and cantina tucked into a corner off Thornton. Excellent margaritas and the food is fresh, from an extensive menu that goes beyond the standard taqueria fare otherwise found in Newark. Good atmosphere, blending modern with traditional through tasteful murals rather than tchotchkes. My only criticism would be that it can get quite loud as the place starts to fill up. Standout features include attentive staff and the lovely covered, lighted, and heated patio. Often it is reserved for parties, tonight (first Saturday of the month) was a stand up comedy show. Show was well run, and there was no pressure to purchase anything although there was a server on hand so folks didn't have to go out to the bar on their own. No cover but tips appreciated. I really like the margaritas here, I've sampled them all and they are all tasty and potent. The salsa is no joke. Giving the place five stars because we have nothing else like it in town, everything I've had on the menu has been good, and I really feel the hospitality when I come here. read more

This is our go-to Friday spot. Their mojitos are superb . I usually get the enchilada suizas (their salsa verde is bomb.com). Hunny gets the carne asada plate. Since moving here from So Cal, it's been hard to find Mexican food that can satiate our cravings. I would even go as far as to say, "oh, how I miss Albertos!" For my So Cal peeps they know what I mean! Lol. This place def satisfies my craving. I recommend trying the beans, enchilada Suizas, and the mojitos! The owners are onsite taking orders and serving. They are great at making you feel welcomed and ensure your taken cared of. With the pandemic, I'm sure some servers had to be furloughed or let go, so service can be a bit slow but keep in mind he and his wife are def taking on many hats. I'm very disappointed in this restaurant. They left out my entire dinner on my Grubhub order. When I called them, the man on the phone said, "Oh, this is totally my fault". He then told me he would not send the item out to me because, "It would cost me too much money". Really?!? He then said I can come get the dinner myself and I could get a free appetizer.
