I haven't eaten breakfast since morning so why not come here for the first time? It's really quiet here and seems that people rather take it to go than dine here since there's only one person I saw. The place is kinda dark which is probably the reason why. I was scrolling through the menu and I noticed that some of the words were too small to read especially when they're clumped together. When I was trying to order, they were going a bit too fast by not just quickly telling me what to add next, but also added cheese to accumulate the total price of food when I never ordered it. Fast service could be as bad as slow service, because people could feel rushed. I got Al Pastor Bowl and it's really delicious though. I like how all the ingredients were blended together as I keep on eating it. My small issue is that, it wasn't kind of warm enough but not to the point where I have to microwave it. Honestly, I have forgotten what Al pastor is which is why I got it but again, I'll have to look up online what it is. Overall, the food is good but they should slow down a bit when taking customers' orders especially when they're new here. Was craving some quick Mexican food so placed a togo order and was disappointed. The menu had good options and I was happy to see they had al pastor. I ordered the super nachitos with al pastor and was disappointed to see that they just sprinkled some shredded cheese. The al pastor was dry and tastes like it had been out all day after being cooked in the morning. There wasn't nearly enough toppings so there was a bunch of chips left and they were lowkey kind of stale in my opinion. My husband got a burrito and said it was good, however. It was a good size piece of fish so that protein to tortilla ratio was good. However, the shrimp taco was just okay. I didn't get alot of shrimp in my taco. I felt it had more pico de gallo than actual shrimp so that ratio was disappointing. Also, the rice that came with one of the tacos was not my favorite. Not your typical Mexican fluffy red rice. It tasted and had the texture of rice you cook in the microwave for a minute. Definitely a hidden gem in Newark! We had no clue what to eat and only a little bit of time to find something before my 11-year-old's game started. I wasn't feeling Chinese or Indian food, and there were a lot of those options around. While we were figuring it out, I went to UPS to drop off a return. On the drive there, I noticed Cal Eats Fresh, so I looked them up on Yelp. The pictures and videos looked delicious, so my husband decided that was the perfect choice--quick and easy. I went with the Steak and Shrimp bowl. I really liked that the shrimp were cooked on the spot, and they warmed up the steak with it, which added extra flavor. I topped it with Mexican rice, black beans, guac, sour cream, lettuce, and jalapeños. It's kind of like a Chipotle bowl where you build it as you go. I enjoyed everything except the rice--I like my rice with more seasoning. It wasn't bad, but it could have been better. The steak could have been cut into larger pieces, but that's more of a personal preference. My husband got the Chicken and Fries basket. They didn't have breaded chicken, which he was totally fine with, and he swapped the side of coleslaw for rice instead. The chicken was a little dry, and the fries could have been cooked longer. But the STAR of the show was the spicy BBQ sauce--like nothing we'd ever had before. Absolutely delicious. The service was a 10/10. The young man who helped us was friendly from the start, patient with all our questions, and seemed like he truly enjoyed working there. My husband ordered a burrito and carne asada taco and I ordered a shrimp and steak burrito bowl. One good thing about the food is that it was loaded with things and had a good amount of meat. But to us, it lacked a bit of flavor and did not taste like your traditional mexican food. However we were offered free chips and salsa which was nice. The fish tacos and steak fajita bowl were packed with flavor, and the chips and salsa were absolutely fire! Our server was super patient and friendly, which made the visit even better. We walked in and were welcomed by the people behind the counter. It was our first time and the man who welcomed us in was very helpful. He explained the menu to us and mentioned the larger images on the wall were their best sellers. We got the fish tacos (one of their best sellers) and a breakfast burrito. They accidentally added potatoes to the breakfast burrito, but asked if it was ok, which it was, and that they wouldn't charge me extra for it. The food was so yummy so we'll be back again! This is one of the restaurants I haven't tried in the strip mall and decided to give it a try for dinner on a weekday evening. The restaurant was empty when we arrived and the employees were kind and welcoming. This restaurant is similar to Chipotle, but more expensive. They charge extra for cheese and sour cream, which was disappointing since I could get a bowl with more inclusions for cheaper elsewhere. The carne asada, however, was pretty good and they have the option between whole wheat and flour tortillas. Dropped in for some lunch and was greeted right away walking in, ordered couple tacos, Asada and Pastor with some frijoles con arroz. They have green salsa verde, pico and molcajete sawce. There are about 10 tables with some picnic benches in a casual aluminum siding motif. I have been eating at Cal Eats for at least once every week for about a month now,and it's safe to say I keep going back because it's that good! I order the blackened fish tacos and the shrimp tacos every time. I highly recommend those two. The blackened fish taco is my favorite, it has a great smokey flavor and the sauce is amazing! The shrimp taco is the runner up. It does come with rice, which I found to be very complimentary to the shrimp. I would only say they could add more shrimp to it, but for what you pay it's definitely a steal. Chips and salsa are great too! He offers different options of salsa and they are all very delicious! My personal favorite is the avocado salsa. A lot of beverage choices, I always get the agua fresca de Jamaica. The location has plenty of parking as it is located in a shopping center. It has ample seating available and high chairs for the kiddos! What I appreciate is the owners kindness and gratitude every single time! You can tell he is proud of his food and loves what he does.
