Unassuming place near the Fremont Hub. It's been around while. Quite frankly, Mexican food in this part of the Bay Area is generally pretty slim pickings and it's even rarer to find one with a fully functional salsa bar. But slim pickings isn't no pickings - and if you're craving Mexican fast food at a random hour (they're open extremely late by Fremont standards) - this place is great for that. The food is just solid, convenient, and they're one of the last places out there that still has a salsa bar, which means that I'm going to have to keep coming back no matter what else I think. This place is pretty much always packed at all hours by virtue of being solid Mexican food in a place where there isn't a lot. Food comes out super fast. Prices are basically reasonable...I can't call it cheap or affordable, but basically nothing here is. As far as a meal goes, it's a perfectly reasonable price point. Honestly just not a lot to say - this is just a solid place that is pretty much completely monopolizing the Mexican fast food in a place you can actually sit down in and use a salsa bar niche. Highly recommended if you're in the mood!

After a Mission Peak hike, you need something substantial to refuel. They don't have a whole lot of seating inside so not good for groups larger than 4. The salsa bar is nice with 6 different salsas. Free chips given for orders. I got the super fish burrito and shrimp taco with no cheese. The burrito was good. Filling and fish didn't have a fishy taste. The shrimp taco wasn't great and would skip next time. I wasn't a fan of the salsa they put on it. Prices are average and a tad cheaper than most taquerias. Parking lot Cash/card accepted

Omg what a delicious find!!! My coworkers mentioned this taqueria to me while I was scouring lunch options and I'm so glad that I tried it. I ordered their #2 two tacos combo plate which consists of two tacos, refried beans, rice, and a fountain drink. Thankfully, I wore my stretchy scrubs that day because whewww I ate every last bite! Their meat was super flavorful and succulent which I loved. The cashier was really nice and there's also a little salsa bar as well. You can also order online ahead of time, which is awesome since there seems to be quite of a lunch rush. Def recommend if you're in the area!!

Not sure why it's popular. Visited on Sunday lunchtime, it quite packed with people waiting for pickup. The salsa area is narrow, can't even get two people there. The house taco chip was bland and so was the salsa. I had the q.consome, it's just average and the soup was kind of oily.

This is my favorite taqueria in Fremont! I come here often and I usually get tacos or a burrito, everything is sooo good. The refried beans here are the best. Every order comes with complimentary chips and there's a salsa bar with the yummiest salsas ever. My favorite is the habanero salsa because it's actually decently spicy. I hate when I try a salsa or hot sauce and it's not spicy at all. But this one has a small kick! However, the salsa bar is where I have beef. Only 2 salsas per order... stingy salsa bars are a recurring theme in my reviews. I HATE THEM! Some of us love our salsas, sauces, and condiments. I could easily go through 4 of them for a single burrito. When I eat Mexican food I need to turn my meal into salsa soup or I'm not happy. Also, they close the salsa bar pretty early. I came in once a whole hour before closing and the salsas were gone. :( Docked a star because of my salsa woes, and because it's my favorite *in Fremont* but I wouldn't say in my top 3 or even 5. If I'm willing to make the drive to SJ/Berkeley/Oakland I'd rather have Mexican food there. Service is kinda curt, not the friendliest yet not rude either, but understandable when they're packed. Usually it's hard for me and my friends to find seating so keep that in mind.

Coctel de Camaron y Pulpo (GROSS!!)

Honestly Bleh, so many better Mexican restaurants in the bay. Not sure why there's a line here. I'm a huge fan of nachos, except I would not recommend them here. Ingredients are the cheapest and although there's lots on top, something is missing. The Camaron y Pulpo seafood cocktail has the most chewy octopus that tastes like paper. I had spit out the octopus pieces whenever I got them on the spoon with the shrimp. The cocktail mix itself was nicely spiced. They also asked if I wanted it prepared hot, warm or cold..which is new to me. I chose warm and I think it was a mistake. Devil shrimp wasn't my dish, but I was told it was just okay. I think this place is best for tacos because that's mostly what I saw people order. And also it's pretty expensive for what is it..especially the seafood. You won't catch me here again.

Taco de Tripas - Should have been shrimp, not steak.

Just picked up my order about 30 minutes ago. I live 5 miles away and had already settled in at home. I ordered taco de tripas so should have received shrimp, but instead received steak. The guacamole is highlighted on the receipt for the fish taco, but that was missing. The limon burrito is supposed to come with melted cheese, onions, and special sauce, but that is missing too and there is barely any cilantro. I'm about 2/3 done with my burrito, then I find half of a plastic bread tie after biting down on something hard in my mouth. So disappointed and irritated!

Ok... so I've been coming to Taqueria Extra for some years now and they have become one of my favorite Mexican food spots. I only have 2 favorites. There's something that stands out about the chorizo. I usually get if I order a breakfast burrito or if I order a crispy taco (you gotta add sour cream to take it to the next level). Good selection in their salsa bar. I love their pico. I've even ordered the large containers for parties. Service- friendly. Even when calling in phone/pick up orders. My last order from them was menudo. WOW I love menudo and theirs blew me away. The broth had so much flavor. The amount of tripe that was given was very generous. Soup to tripe ratio- perfect. I ordered this to go and the broth was still hot, hot when I got home. THAT is how you're supposed to serve soup!

Good al pastor tacos and ok asada tacos

There are many good Mexican spots around Fremont, including two food trucks within walking distance of our house, but Taqueria Extra is still our go to place for tacos, specifically tripas and cabeza tacos. The tacos here are always consistent, they are loaded and always flavorful. The place itself is small, with only a few tables to sit at inside and outside. Not much to say about service since you order and sit down, typical of other places. Overall, this is more like a 4.5, but 5 for the food, which we will continue to come for.

    Carnitas tacos.

They now have happy hour from 3pm-6pm on Monday through Friday. 3 tacos for $6. I wasn't planning on getting anything here but saw the sign and it was 3:06pm and decided why not?! I ended up getting carnitas tacos and they were great! Will be back for this deal again.

Chips, corn tortilla, menudo with spicy salsa (2) and chili oil. Not only just a favorite food but amazing hangover cure.

We've been very loyal customers of their menudo for a long time. Sad to say, that the quality have gone down a lot over the years. The inconsistency makes us feel like we have to gamble for a good bowl of menudo. Today's menudo was just too disappointing. Mushy tripe with almost no texture, soooooo much oil, (had to pour out good amount to even get to the broth), and the flavor just isn't the same anymore. Really sad to say, we will be hunting elsewhere for our new weekend mendu spot....

$13.99 for all rice and few bits of dry chicken.... Disappointing

90% Rice - 10% Chicken A wet burrito looks more like a dry burrito. In all fairness, I use to really like this place because their quality and generous food. What I got today, was trash. Might as well went to Taco Bell

They offer plenty on their menu and have special deals too. You order at the counter and seat yourself. Service was okay. Not many people dining in but a lot of pick up orders. The sopes: Got 2 carnitas sopes and the meat was perfect. Soft but with a slight crisp and the flavor was all there. Plenty of cheese that caused a nice cheese pull. The steak nachos: They use shredded mozzarella but I don't think it was enough. A lot of the chips were bare and the ones that had it were dried out. The guac and sour cream balanced it out. The tacos: We got asada, chicken, and buche. Your average yellow tortilla perfectly oiled and heated up. I do feel like they skimped on the amount of meat they put on the asada tacos and the quality of the meat wasn't the best as there was a lot of fatty pieces. The winning meat was definitely the buche. It was fried just right and had a lot of flavor. The chicken was also very well seasoned and juicy. The green salsa was superior to the red salsa. It had a good heat level that wasn't overpowering like the red one. I appreciated that they added the pickled veggies on the side. Overall, a solid taco and sope spot. I will definitely return to try other items on the menu.

These tacos absolutely hit. However.... the wait. Taco Tuesday apparently activates some sort of time vortex. To-go orders routinely take 45 minutes to an hour, and dine-in isn't much better. You'll place your order, age emotionally, maybe grow a beard, and then BOOM tacos. Worth it? Usually. Efficient? Absolutely not. Outside of Taco Tuesday, prices jump fast. Case in point: $9 for 8 oz of guacamole. It's good guac, but at that price I half expect it to come with a tiny mariachi band or at least whisper affirmations while I eat it.

They're finally back so we did the long trek over to try them twice. I might come back if I happened to be in the area and saw zero people in line, but otherwise, the wait time is too long. They are not lunch time friendly as orders take a while to come out. First visit, there were two people in front of us and we ordered four tacos. It was a 28 minute wait. Second visit, two people ordered in front of us plus one person who picked up their order right as we got there. We ordered six tacos and waited 37 minutes. That is very long for a food truck. The people in front of us were getting impatient and repeatedly asking for status updates. There are no prices listed anywhere so you have to ask about each item or order off of blind trust. The trompo seems to be gone and it appears they use bulk bagged "al pastor" now, or at least it looked and tasted like what you see when taquerias order large plastic bags of pre-sliced, red-dyed meat to grill up as needed. The paper wrapper around each taco is a must because the fresh made tortillas fall apart after one bite, even if you are eating within minutes of being handed your tacos. Other options nearby are Amelia's Kitchen Taco Truck on Decoto with plenty of parking before Regan Nursery, Tacos Sin Fronteras (another food truck) a block down on the same side of Thornton and Mi Lindo Sinaloa (sit down restaurant) on the opposite side of Thornton.
