If I could give zero stars I would. Our server, Tyler L. was so rude. When someone from my party asked for a refill, her response was "you can wait". She then brought the coke, asked how we were paying, brought the check and told us she was going on break. My friend asked for honey mustard and she sighed, gave a sad face and said "ugh". She spilled the fries and didn't bring the fries until the end of the meal and the fries were not good at all. You'd think if they spent 30 minutes on fries they'd be great, but they weren't. Every other Dennys I have been to has been nothing short of amazing. However, I recently moved to Frederick and have never been more disappointed. The eggs were not scrambled as I requested, just large rubbery chunks that tasted like the inside of a hard-boiled egg. English muffin was hard on one side and soggy on the other. The country fried steak was covered in way too much gravy that soaked into the steak. The hash browns were crispy to the point of nearly being burnt on one side and soggy on the other. I haven't been back to this Denny's in 10 years because we received bad service 10 years ago but my husband and I thought we would it another try. We have lived in Frederick for 20 years. We went in today for breakfast and we were seated fairly quickly. We sat their for 10 minutes before our sever can over to greet us. The service greeted the table next to us that had a bigger table that was seated after us and took their drink order, brought their drink order back and asked if the table if they were ready to order before she even came to greet our table. I decided to walk up to the front to do a to go order instead and that is when the server came over to greet us. Not only was I disappointed again after trying to give Denny's another chance. Eating is cheap, plentiful and good at Denny's Diner, where with the 2-4-6-8 menu, one can enjoy ayce pancakes for $4. With coffee, tax and a reasonable tip, I often walk out pleasantly full to stuffed for about $8 ! And this is a sit down restaurant with metal forks and knives! At Denny's, I'm in a time warp, and often greeted with "where would you wanna sit honey?" It could be 1973 in there, but that adds to the charm. I enjoy the ayce pancakes, and the whole wheat pancakes are particularly delicious. And they don't cost a penny more. FYI, I haven't tried lunch or dinner there, but their ice cream sundae for $3 was a bargain... Yes, it can be loud in there with the servers running about, and sometimes its so busy you need to get their attention...but what diner isn't? Pancakes come with small creamers full of hot syrup and the obligatory oversized dollop of butter. It's not health food, but it is consistent and great for when the mood strikes you for just that. The servers go out of their way to make you feel like a real guest. And that's what makes this restaurant so special. The oatmeal and eggs are good too, and the coffee is top notch. If you don't mind the simple diner decor and lack of pretense, you might make it one of your favorites too! read more

On 3/17/16 (My Birthday), I have received a coupon in my email from Denny's which read that I get a free GrandSlam breakfast. Since I was at school at the time, I didn't have the time to redeem my free breakfast, so I have saved my coupon for another time although the coupon said that it expires on 3/24/16. Today, (3/21/16), I have decided to take advantage of my free breakfast coupon and walked into Denny's. I was immediately greeted by a waitress by the name of Angelina, or Angel as it's read on her name tag. She was very friendly and she went to the manager to get my coupon honored. It was then that I saw Angelina and the manager come to my table. That prick of a manager says, "I'm sorry, I cannot honor your coupon today because your birthday was on Thursday and it passed, but you can come back on your birthday next year and I will honor your coupon". The waitress told me "I am so sorry about that. If the general manager was here, he would've honored your coupon, even though your birthday passed. Since this guy's the manager here, I'm so upset that he wouldn't honor your coupon." I told her that it was okay and I will order something else since I was already seated. So, I ordered the build your own sampler which is a set of fried appetizers. You can get a whole plate of appetizers for $7.99 or a half plate of appetizers for $5.99 I ordered chicken tenders with onion rings and honey mustard sauce along with a glass of orange juice. The food took long to come out because there was only one cook this morning, which was okay for me because I wasn't in a rush. I happily enjoyed my food, paid the tab and left. Went here at about 10pm so I certainly wasn't expecting anything grand. The waitress was nice and attentive and food was great (although the pancakes I ordered weren't supposed to have pecans in them. Luckily I love pecans, but I do worry that if someone who was allergic to nuts ended up with the same pancakes, things would go bad quickly). My only complaint is that I didn't need to hear the kitchen staff yelling at each other. I realize Denny's isn't Volt, but I'd prefer not to have to stop talking mid-sentence because my boyfriend can't hear what I'm saying over their yelling. Went there for the Veterans Day deal, we got seated pretty fast. But our server was just bad. The host was bad as well I didn't get her name but it was a black girl with a lot of tattoos. She didn't ask for our drinks so we waited 15min then my wife asked her if we had a server then she got an attitude and said they are very busy to be patient. 10 min later our server came, it turns out it was the guy just standing there and kept staring at us. Took our order of drinks then took a while to get them too us. After sitting with our drinks for about another 20 min he finally came to take our order as he walked away he said "he was tired of this veteran day shit". Two groups that got seated after us got there food, ate, and left while we sat there patiently struggling with what the hell was going on with no updates or no one checking on us. After another 40min of waiting, not getting our food or any updates my family and I just left. Terrible service I think the guys name was Adrian, he was about 6ft tall black male with a buzz cut. Wish I could've had a different experience with other server bc plenty of other people seemed happy. Also my wife's strawberry smoothie never came out and that was the last straw, when we seen him take this other group that just sat down a strawberry smoothie. I visited Denny's earlier this week after a doctor's appointment. Needless to say, I was feeling pretty sad and broken. My husband insisted on going to breakfast before heading home and I reluctantly agreed. I was so happy we stopped. Of course the food was fresh, delivered so my husband and I had time to really talk and and connect. In the meantime, our server, Annie, was very attentive. She read our every mood. We did not feel rushed to place an order...we felt perfectly at home. When it was time to place our order, Annie, answered every question we had and our food was out in no time! I joined yelp just to post this review. Of a Denny's. A simple, plain old boring Denny's that's been in that location for more than 30 years or so. The last two of those 30 years, the place has been absolute crap. I gave it a three strikes and your out, and yesterday was strike three over the last few years. The food is fine. The food is Denny's food. But The server was atrocious. I don't remember his name, but he worked on March 24 at around 4:30 PM. My party and two others were the entire clientele. Food took half an hour, and the excuse from this server was "they are swamped." (They clearly were not.) His excuse Number 2 was, "They don't let me know there are people waiting out here." Try checking in with your host, or just looking at your tables once in a while, the place isn't that big. The whole place RAN OUT OF COLESLAW. Coleslaw covers about two thirds of the earth's surface anywhere else, and is one of the most common side dishes in American history. But they are out. Something they didn't bother telling us until after we'd ordered. My mother picked something else, and they didn't have any of that either. She asked what they did have, and the server left to get a menu...as though my mother hadn't read it when we came into the place...back before I had grown a beard. She picked the fruit bowl, or whatever it was. When i ordered, I specifically said I wanted plain fries. The sandwich I order comes with those, but given the history of the place, i wanted to make extra certain they understood that, so I specifically ordered the plain fries. Naturally when the food finally arrived, I had the seasoned fries. The server thought my mother and I could just switch, but Mom hadn't ordered seasoned fries either. (It took a minute to make this point.) Server left to get a plate, so I could dump my wrong fries into. Once I did that, he left AGAIN with the bowl of fries I actually ordered. It's pushing 40 minutes since I sat sown waiting for a whole meal, and remember there were three tables full when we got there. Three. "These touch screens can be sensitive, sir," the server told me about the wrong fries order. Mom doesn't have her fruit bowl side, either. After this server walked back and forth talking with some regulars a few times, he finally comes back, mom wanted her side, and said she thought she deserved a small piece of cheesecake for the (second) screw up of the order. The server agreed, and went to the counter...where it was easy to see Mom's fruit had been sitting all the while. When that came, I asked for another coke. Ten minutes and much talking and messing about at the counter later, I still had no second soda. A manager either happened to detect I was pissed, or by random chance showed up at that moment to ask if I'd like another coke. I told her one was supposed to be on the way, but hadn't arrived yet. She got it for me herself. Meal finished, still no promised cheesecake. Mom has to flag him down again, to ask for the check and the cheesecake. He brings it a few minutes later, dumped upside down in the takeaway box, and never looks at Mom during the process-just walks right passed our table and slides it on. Needless to say I left zero tip, and that was more than this incompetent deserved, despite his many "apologies." Like I said, that's three times in a row, each time with a different server, at this place when service was slow and/or incorrect. (Not to mention the second time in a row the same guy sat at the counter yelling half the time we were there. I think he comes in all the time just to "talk" to staff. It's just a Denny's. But sometimes, weary people just want simply comfort foods, especially late night travelers, and shouldn't have to put up with this kind of service. The Frederick Denny's is a crap show. Avoid it. I forget the others names, but the middle aged black woman is also really great and the (i think hispanic) ~30 year old also is good. The rest are sub-par at best. We have gone 15+ minutes without having our orders taken multiple times. We snag April as often as we can because we're there 2-3 times a week and she's rock solid every time. Food quality is almost always perfect. It's a server error 95% of the time if there is a mistake. They have no issues doing substitutes for orders and they are good about refills and things like that. However, they forget my dinner bread with my spicy cowboy chopped steak about half the time. I just remind them and it's no biggie though. I LOVE this Dennys, I just wish their servers could get it together. read more

Almost 2 years later and Denny's double monster cheese burger is still off the hook and still the best burger value in Frederick. I'm told that Denny's only uses freshly made ground beef/chuck patties, formed upon cooking. The beef patties are irregular in shape that tends to support their claim. At $9.29 before tax (a $.30 increase from '14--not bad), this burger (including fries) holds its own against Frederick's finest burger joints (Wags, Beef Buns in Paradise, 5 Guys, etc). The beef is full of flavor, juicy, and cooked to an industry standard medium-well. I must also give props to the service staff. The servers were kind, conscientious, professional and made for a pleasant dining experience. At $11.96 incl tax, for a 1/2 lb monster burger w/ fries, and a Coke, it's still a good value. My friends and I love this place. It is homey, and we know what to expect when we order - simple food cooked right. I enjoy the atmosphere here, as the service staff is always friendly. Our favorites in include Moons Over My Hammy, the T-bone steak dinner, the Prime Rib sandwich, Super Bird, the skillet dinners, and you can't go wrong with a one of their slams. We love that Denny's is open all of the time, too. We patronize the place on a regular basis, and hope they never close at this location. Try the chocolate milkshake. Since temporary management took over a few weeks ago everything has changed.
