This review is for a pickup order on a weeknight. I was looking for a current online menu, the person who answered the phone said they have a new menu, but it's not online yet. He was helpful and courteous. I ordered two steak & cheese subs, one with grilled onions. My partner said when he arrived at the restaurant he had to wait awhile before the food was ready, like maybe they hadn't started the order yet. The subs themselves were very good, with a good amount of meat & Mozzarella, but no grilled onions. The fries that came with them were very tasty, browned shoe string fries. I also ordered a side salad which had a fresh variety of lettuce, good tomatoes, carrot and green pepper slices, but they forgot to include the dressing. Best wings in Frederick, with no one even remotely positioned to challenge them for the title. I've tried wings all over the area and Capital Crave is the ONE true King of Wings. They take a minute to be made (around 25) but they're made fresh to order, all the sauces are made in house, and they use real butter in the sauces. The wings are big and they've been cooked ::perfectly:: every single time. You can just tell that the chef cooks with a lot of pride and you can taste it in the food. The big test was eating the leftovers the next day. I didn't even heat them up they were so good. In addition to wings, they have a full sized menu including pizza. I literally have nothing but good things to say about this place. I'll wait 30 minutes every day of the week for wings this good, and twice on Sundays. Prices are super reasonable, and I almost thought it was an error the first time. $12.50 for 10 huge wings with a nice blend of wings and flats. Just come get some and find out. read more

Capital crave has by far some of the best sandwiches and subs in Frederick. They are a bit off the beaten path being on old national pike, but well worth a visit. Hands down the best cheese steak in Frederick. I've had their cheese steak, chipotle chicken steak, and tuna melt, all have been delicious! We've ordered for pickup and eaten in. They have plenty of parking, indoor and out door dining and really nice staff. I think this would be a great place to hold an event or come watch a game. Lots of big screen TVs. Ahh, another Yelptory, (that's a Yelp victory)... So, I used to play golf here. Yes, at the VFW, no I can not claim to be one, but I used to play on their course which was open to the public, and super cheap in it's last years. Now it is being developed (boo!). Never, in all the times I was there, did I even give Capital Crave a second thought. First, it looks kinda crappy from the outside, like who would eat there kind of crappy? Second, it gives you the impression you have to be a VFW member to eat there. Well, Yelp continues to teach me the age old lesson that you should judge an really old person by their really wrinkly skin, or however that saying goes... So we came on a date to this place because we wanted to go on a little lunch date, and we had to be near Frederick, but we didn't want to go downtown. Yelp led us here. We practically had the place to ourselves. We got to sit at a picture window and overlook the grounds of what used to be a golf course, which was now covered in snow. It's probably really a bunch of dug up dirt, but under all the snow it was quite picaresque. When we arrived, the hostess was nowhere to be seen, but she turned up after about 2 minutes of us waiting by the wait to be seated sign. We got to choose our table (see above). She was rather unenthusiastic, but she was also our server, and when we engaged her with questions about the restaurant and food, she turned out to be really nice. She really took great care of us, and was attentive to our needs and helpful with menu selections. They serve sweet tea which is nice. We ordered the potato skins, which were really potato wedges with delicious melty cheese and crispy bacon. I do wish they had green onions on them though. I read a tip about Javier Sauce, named after a longtime patron. So I asked for some, it's like a sweet hot sauce, and really delicious if you have a sweet tooth and like a little heat. I ordered two kinds of wings were the X Hot Rockets and Asian Tso. Both were great choices, the hot wings were so tasty and hot, but only mildly so. The Asian Tso tasted just like the General's original recipe to be found at many an american chinese take out place. My BYFF, Caitlin T., ordered the steakhouse burger. It was cooked perfectly and delicous, although a touch too much A-1. Maybe just sauce one of the buns next time. The food definitely took a while to come out, but when it got there, it was clear it was worth the wait. Freshly prepared, and yummy. They taste like fresh cut fries... So, we will be back! Stopped in for some appetizers Sunday because it had a 4 star review. It was dead with a few folks at the bar and 1 couple in a booth. We had bonless wings....which was a chicken breast cut into chunks, potato skins that were pretty good and onion rings that were horrible. All but 3 arrived burnt;seemed they kept them in the fryer wayyyy to long and it was evident the oil need to be changed. Although I didn't say anything about them, they charged me $.90 for them. We were first introduced to Capital Crave when they catered an event at my son's school. The food they provided was nothing short of amazing, so we decided to check the place out for a sit-down meal. We were not disappointed! My son and I each got the mac & cheese, and my wife got a spinach stromboli. The portions were large, but not overwhelming. It's hard to screw up mac & cheese, but it's even harder to get up into "the best" zone. Their mac & cheese is easily some of the best I've ever had! My son (age 7) is a bit of a mac & cheese expert, and he loved it! My wife described the stromboli as "awesome." The mac & cheese comes with side salad, which is fresh. Here's another dish that you really can't screw up too much, yet it's another dish that Capital Crave manages to go above and beyond with. The garlic bread on the side is crispy around the edges, but soft and flavorful inside. Fountain drinks are pretty typical of any casual dining restaurant, and come with free refills. The view out the back window overlooks golf course. Covered in snow on our visit, it was a surreal and beautiful view. Atmosphere in the restaurant was a mix of sports bar and casual. Chef/Owner Chris was on duty during our visit, and was very friendly and accommodating. He even opened the patio door for us to step out and enjoy the view while we waited for our food. The prices were pretty typical of this type of restaurant, and three of us ate for just over $30, but we got a lot of food for our money. Leftovers are always a good thing! read more

We chose this place while we were driving...lunch dates don't come that often when you have a gaggle is kiddos, and when a snowstorm challenges your original plan by snowing you and your babysitter in until you clear your long driveways, said dates have to be flexible! We were one of just a handful of occupied tables on a snowy Sunday at 2:00. There's a bar and a bunch of tall booths; rather mismatched decor really. The cherry wood look plank floors and pickled gray paneling on the walls didn't exactly scream modern and updated, and by the way the building is owned by the VFW, so the entrance isn't right into the restaurant itself...there's a kind of shared foyer...anyway... We found out they host a dart league (which explains the dart boards and score boards scattered around, and the tape lines on the floor designating where one stands to legally play darts). But the place had an overall welcoming and pleasant feel. We sat next to a very large wall of picture windows overlooking a snowy former golf course and enjoyed a quiet lunch. I appreciated that only a couple of the 10 TVs were on! So the food was really good, even though it took what felt like a loooong time to come out. We had potato skins as an app (they were really potato wedges with bacon cheese and sour cream) and they were piping hot. I make potato skins and think mine are just slightly better (green onions and less potato are the key here). My husband agreed although he may just be being a good husband ;) My main dish was a steakhouse burger ordered medium rare and yes indeed it was cooked perfectly. Score! My one beef (haha) is that there was too much A1 on it. That's strong tasting sauce and it didn't need to be on the bottom and top buns in my opinion. Also I salted the patty just a smidge and that made a big difference in the taste of the meat. Istvan got chicken wings and they were AWESOME. I only tried the General Tso sauced ones and they had that good crispy outside that's a must for wings. The pizza was good with fresh topping. I did add the Javior sauce and kicked the pizza flavor up a few notches. This place is hard to see from the main road (where Rt. 40 and alternate Rt.40 meet). Probably the worst service I've had at any place in my 10+ years in the Frederick area. It took a half hour to get two appetizers to go. The waitstaff was not helpful or apologetic at all. They were not very busy but made sure not to make eye contact with us while we waited. We watched another guy go through his order while we were waiting and they messed his order up severely. I brought home potato skins that are fried to death with undercooked bacon on top. I will not be coming back. I rarely leave yelp reviews, but thought this so atrocious that it should be posted. I will try to post pictures if the app allows me. I called and was told that the owner would call me back to discuss. The owner did not call me back, and the staff member I first talked to called me back instead. We were basic and got chicken tenders and fries but they were the best I've ever eaten at a restaurant. When i took a bite i said they made it like my mom would. Short Story: Don't go here! Frederick has many decent restaurants. This isn't one of them. I'm drafting this while still at the table, I'll tell the whole story when the meal is finished. We've been here an hour and still don't even have the wings we ordered as an appetizer. Some people that came in after us are already paying their check. The waitress said that "our order didn't go through the first time." Still, it shouldn't take over an hour. We were offered nothing to tide us over until the dinner does come. It's now 8:30 PM, our 9 month old son has eaten all of the food that we brought for him and is getting fussy because it's now getting near his bed time. (The table next to us just left, they came in after us). We sat out on the patio and the scenery is nice. Summary ------------- This wound up being,BY FAR, the worst dining experience my wife and I have ever had. When our waitress brought a plate of wings to a table that had been seated nearly an hour after we had, that was the last straw. In my nearly 39 years, this is the first time I have ever walked out of a restaurant before being served. It was totally ridiculous. The people being served their wings came in AFTER the waitress had assured us that our order had been straightened out. Yet, somehow our 5 wing appetizer was taking longer than another table's full plate of wings?? I understand that this place is fairly new and people make mistakes. But, after an hour, they could have offered us some bread, or crackers, or something that we could have munched on until our meal came. The manager could have stopped by and apologized or offered us a free drink, or something. The server was bad, probably because she was new, which, while frustrating, is, at the very least, understandable So, the problem must be the management because there was no one there to help her. Once an hour had passes, maybe it's time for some additional assistance. It's unfortunate, because the few reviews here were pretty good, and we were excited to try a new pizza place. But the likelihood is that we'll never go back. I surely wouldn't risk taking any friends there for fear that we'd have a repeat experience. Okay, I have given Capital Crave another chance (two actually) and they were much better this time around. I was not at all impressed with their subs which is what I used to like the most about them but the bread was the type I like at least. Their wings are pretty good though and the mac & cheese (w/ garlic bread), too. I actually love that mac & cheese. It reminds me of Outback's version on the kid's menu which has always been one of my guilty pleasures for whatever reason. Anyways, I'm glad Capital Crave made some improvements. I did not feel like stoping in at one of the chains on my way back to Hagerstown so i stop in at the Capital Crave. There were a few good things and a couple bad things. First off the service left alot to be desired there was only one other person in the bar area yet the server was no where to be found. Moreover, The bar does offer several different draft beers along with several bottled options. As far as the food goes i was expecting more. The french fries were good, they stated on the menu that the burger meat was fresh however the meat tasted like it was frozen. It was very bland. Value- 2/5- For the price i was expecting more. Over priced bland burger Overall 5.5/10- average middle of the row bar food nothing to exciting going on. Would have been better if the burger meat was fresh.
