We went for Sunday brunch. We were met by Domingo, and when we sat down, Chloe was very welcoming and Chef came by to say hello. 7th Sister staff are amazing and always very welcoming. I have eaten here before, both outside and in the main room and have always been impressed on how nice the restraunt looks. The decor is nice without being distracting. The lighting is perfect and everything is clean. The bathrooms are always clean and well stocked. The staff works together as a team. Domingo takes his job very seriously and it shows. He is a proffesional. He will make suggestions, answer questions and if needed he will ask the kitchen about any diner's concerns. Leah also came by to see how we were doing. Leah is always looking around making sure the dining area is clean, and that diner's have all the appropriate flat and glassware. She is fastidious that everything should be right and in their place. The food was excellent!!! The food is delicious and unpretenious. The Chef offered a brunch menu that looked fantastic. If I hadn't snacked before going to brunch, I would have definitely gone that route. I had the frittata with the breakfast potatoes and it was delicious. I really appreciate that the food is properly seasoned and that the flavors are not covered up by a overpowering sauces. The portions are fair and there is real value for money. Everything is served at the correct temperature. In closing I really enjoy 7th Sister, because there is a real effort to provide great food, with great staff in a wonderful atmosphere. read more

My husband and I visited this restaurant last week. We were excited to try it out and so glad to have had a great experience. The staff is very friendly and the service is fantastic. I had the crabcake imperial which was juicy and delicious. My husband who is picky about how his filet is cooked(medium rare) really enjoyed it. This is really a 3.7 or so. My wife and I have been to the last three restaurants in this space and never been really wowed by any of them, but we had heard the cheesesteak here was really good and wanted to give it a shot. We came by around 5 on a Wednesday, which was happy hour, and so treated ourselves to half price cocktails, which were solid. We sat outside to enjoy the fall weather and the waitstaff was attendant and courteous. We already knew what we wanted and it didn't take long for the food to come out. The crab dip we ordered to start was between warm and hot which is how I prefer it to avoid the risk of a burned mouth and the flavor was there even if the lumps of crab were not. The cheesesteak and fries were great, a little short of the best I've had simply due to the high bar on that, but very tasty nonetheless. Why 3.7? Mostly value, really. The prices on everything are maybe $2-3 higher than they should be. I hope they're able to stick around and find a successful formula, anyway. read more

The picture was a little challenging due to lighting, so it doesn't truly do the plating and colors the justice it deserves--but I can say that it is unequivocally the best non-Asian duck I have ever had. Normally I skip duck because it is usually dry or really greasy. This is absolutely not the case, here. The duck is cooked to a perfect, juicy, tender Medium-Rare with the skin perfectly crisp and flavor that couldn't be more on-point. The blackberry agridulce is flawless. Some People find fruit with proteins to seem odd but I assure you, you are missing out when done properly--the perfect balance of sweet and tangy with a smooth, almost silky texture. In many cases, I've had agridulce that were too syrupy and "sticky" but the Chef has nailed this; if you are a blackberry fan this will leave you thinking about what you ate for days or weeks to come, as it did me. The corn purée is also very impressive. It's very smooth, has a ton of flavor packed into it and has none of the pericarp (the membrane around a kernel of corn). It has a very light and pleasant roasted flavor, not entirely dissimilar to flavor profiles of a grilled street corn (minus the Tajin and all the rest). Lardons are generally pretty good...it's pork belly and pork belly is delicious...but these are particularly standout because they cure the pork belly for a couple of days in curing salt and then generously glaze the meat before roasting it off. The molasses creates almost like a thin "candied'esq" type coating on the outside which locks in a ton of its delicious juices while adding pleasant sweet darker notes from the molasses. I could eat them like candy. If you are a duck fan and like the ambience of a 1800s mansion on the main street of Frederick MD, which is already a bit of a magical place on its own, or sitting around a fire pit in the garden and sipping on craft cocktails, 7th Sister (opened May 2025) is worth taking for a spin They also have very nice Oysters, handhelds like burgers and pastrami sandwiches (the chef was formerly at Firestone up until it closed after the owner passed away), which is made in-house from scratch. There's absolutely something for everyone and for the folks out there with gluten allergies, most recipes have been made to be gluten-free but without compromising on textures like some other venues gluten-free options tend to struggle with. read more

There is something wrong with this restaurant. Take a look at the ratings and you will see they are all over the map. As the forth (fifth?) restaurant in this location (a beautiful 1800's downtown mansion) I have little confidence this one will last much longer. Prices are very high; $21 for a burger as an example. For that price I would expect stellar service and food. In our case the food did not disappoint but the service and bar were a disaster. The owners need to overhaul the front operation. We arrived at 3:45 PM and were brusquely informed the restaurant was not open despite the welcoming signage outside. The bar seemed to be hopping. We were told to come back. We should have bailed; we did not. We returned at 4:15 and had to interrupt the two at the reception desk who were having a discussion about nail polish to get their attention. We were seated in the dining room which was completely empty. Our sparkling water arrived lukewarm. Our waiter tried hard but clearly was in over his head dealing with a fine dining experience. Our crab dip was great. It's too bad the dirty dishes remained on the table for most of the dinner. They were out of Champagne and something else was substituted. It was room temperature and too sweet. I returned it for a very nice Pinot Noir. The beet salad was nice but he candied walnuts were too cloying to eat. The fish was good. The steak was good and cooked nicely. The chocolate mousse was good. Sparkling water, two wines, one pre-fixe dinner, one appetizer, and one main course. Out the door for $180 plus a $50 tip. I always tip high. I hope they can get the front of the house in order. We need more good places to eat in Frederick but I do not have my hopes up. I will monitor the reviews and if they show any improvement I might try this again. read more

I've now been here twice for brunch and both times were enjoyable. The servers know the menu and are nice. It's also easy to get same day reservations for Sunday brunch should you decide last minute you want brunch. The mimosa carafe/pitcher is great for sharing with 3-4 people, you get a bottle of sparkling wine (not Andres or Cooks) and 3 juices paired with it, so you can make your own mimosa. The oysters are fresh and shucked nice and clean, order a dozen, you'll end up wanting more. I've had the eggs chesapeake and the eggs benedict, if the chesapeake had more jumbo lump crab in it it'd win as the better of the two. The hollandaise is velvety and delicious, the potatoes are seasoned nicely! read more

Waiter was new, when you pay Volt prices , yes this is in the same building you expect volt service. No desert offered. We went for the first time to have dinner. The place itself looks nice but... the service was very slow, I took forever to get someone to serve our table. I ordered fillet medium well and it was cooked medium rare, so I returned to be cooked some more, they brought it back around 10 minutes later in a non presentable dish by itself and when I tried it was cooked to death and I could taste the oil, I believe they fried it. 5 stars for brunch! I hope they do well here. (I went to the last restaurant..the one after Volt and I didn't review it bc I was not a fan) I would like to see 7th Sister succeed in this space. They have a great menu for both brunch and dinner. We got the bread and oil (with goat cheese) I love that they source out to a local bakery for the bread. My mom said "I would make a meal out of this bread alone" -- it was really good. I see they also have a Maison Brunswick avocado toast which will have to wait for a return visit. I got the eggs Chesapeake and it was fine. I went because I saw their amazing Bloody Mary on instagram, but they didn't have it anymore, so I had to get their *basic* Bloody Mary, which turned out to be fine. I also got the matcha cocktail... couldn't really taste the matcha but it was still refreshing. I would like to make a return visit! read more

First time coming here. The cheesesteak was one of the best food items I have eaten in Frederick--the horseradish aioli was melt-in-your mouth delicious. My wife ordered one of the salads with steak--very fresh and a fantastic vinaigrette, and the extra steak she added was very very good. Ordered two cocktails and was very impressed by both, elevated and delicious. Knowing that the pastrami sandwich and the crab dip are both from Firestone (same head chef), which were already some of the best in the city, this new spot was a winner. This wonderful full-service restaurant and bar in downtown Frederick has quickly become one of our favorites. It is classy without being stuffy, the staff are attentive when you need them but don't hover. We have had dinners, lunch, and brunch here, and neither the food nor the cocktails have ever failed to delight us. I recommend consulting with your waiter to get recommendations for cocktail-food combinations, but my current favorites food-wise are the curried cream of crab soup and the cassoulet, and cocktail-wise I gravitate to "Rosemary's Baby" and "Bird of Paradise". The restaurant has its own parking lot, multiple dining rooms with distinct atmospheres, and a great bar. Next time you're in Frederick, you can't go wrong by visiting 7th Sister. read more

The "faux chicken salad" chickpea salad sliders was a standout, a welcome and refreshing vegetarian option. Bright flavors and colors. My table also tried the Carriage house salad and the Chesapeake Risotto. Both dishes were exceptional. The salad was fresh and vibrant, while the risotto was rich, perfectly seasoned, and comforting. We shared oysters and chopped salad. The salad was big enough to share and with olives and chick peas, it could have been a stand alone meal. The 2 oyster types available 6/6 were very different. One was delicate and paired with the chef's recommendation of crème and berry glacé. The other was a beefy bold flavor that did well with horseradish. Hubby loved his medium rare, juicy steak with truffle fries. The crusted scallops were tender and paired with creamy grits. The grilled cabbage had too much oil for my taste- but I ate it all. The coffee was great! Skipped dessert due to being full but enjoyed a rum flight. It was an adventure in differences. Our waitress comped hubby's drink because she thought she was too slow. We didn't notice slow service. If you've enjoyed earlier restaurants in this space, it is pretty much the same but somehow more comfortable. We'll be back. read more

Unfortunately, our experience was awful. They ran out of food, the drinks were just average at best, and we were seated in the very back near the kitchen. We were going to have family in town and had reservations for The Ordinary Hen. About a week before our reservation, I got a call telling us that the restaurant had new owners, a new chef and new menu. We were disappointed but game to try it. When we arrived, we were told that their opening night last night didn't happen so this was their first night, so please be patient. We were seated and soon realized the woman at the neighboring table was very loud. The hostess quickly and subtly moved us at our request. The evening and food turned out wonderfully.
