Even when we ordered a side it was split in half, so you never really got that satisfying bite of biscuit with the flaky top. Everything we had (the badass bacon and eggs, brisket breakfast sandwich, chicken sandwich, chicken and biscuit sandwich, and biscuits and gravy) were okay but not super. I was disappointed in the gravy which was just a little odd. The side of red potatoes was interesting but not our favorite. No hate to the place, just not at all what I was expecting. The service and /decor were great. The food was just not to our taste.

I've had the Bad Ass Breakfast before, and it never disappoints. The bacon is phenomenal, easily one of the highlights of that plate. But the chorizo bowl was on another level. There was a lot going on in that dish--chorizo, spinach, onions, pickled jalapeños, pickled onions, an egg, and several other ingredients. On paper, it sounds like a lot of competing flavors, but somehow everything worked perfectly together. What impressed me most was the balance. You had the richness and savory flavor of the chorizo, the tanginess and acidity from the pickled vegetables, the freshness of the spinach, and the egg bringing everything together. Every bite had a little something different, but nothing overpowered anything else. It was one of those dishes where you could tell the ingredients were thoughtfully combined rather than just thrown together. As far as heat goes, I'd give it a 2 out of 5. Enough spice to give it some personality without overwhelming the flavor. The blueberry pancakes were good, but nothing particularly special. Just solid pancakes. Overall, I've enjoyed the Bad Ass Breakfast before, but that chorizo bowl is what will bring me back. It's not often a breakfast dish with that many ingredients manages to be so well-balanced. Biscuits, brisket, and sauces all tasted great together. My daughter's pancake was decent, but could have been better. Fruit bowl was good. Our server was super nice. He did a good job despite being occupied with several tables. Overall it was a very nice, cozy breakfast and brunch location.

Wonder if they used to be good and have just fallen off, but IMHO not worth it at all.

There is a QR code that you're required to use to join the waitlist/queue, but this is not clearly communicated on their website. For a restaurant that is known for having long waits and high traffic, I feel like this information should be clearly stated online so people can plan accordingly. Once I joined the queue, I was number 43 and ended up waiting about an hour and a half before being seated. I understand that popular restaurants can have long wait times, but the lack of transparency about how the process works made the experience more frustrating than it needed to be. Once inside, the ambiance was actually quite quaint and charming. That said, considering how much traffic this restaurant gets, I was surprised by how limited the space is. I honestly think expanding the property would make a huge difference, although I understand that may not be entirely within their control. One thing I will give them major credit for is the menu. Online, the selection makes it look somewhat limited, but once you're there, they actually have 50+ food options, so there is plenty to choose from. That was definitely a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, my entrée was disappointing. I ordered a shredded beef taco with salsa and substituted a side salad. The beef was extremely tender, but unfortunately, it was also very dry. The salad was another disappointment because the vinaigrette was honestly not good. I don't think I've ever had a vinaigrette that I actively disliked until this meal. Thankfully, my fiancé had a much better experience. He ordered an enchilada and said it was one of the top five enchiladas he's ever had, so clearly there are some standout dishes on the menu. That definitely made me curious about trying something different if I ever return. I also really enjoyed that they offer hibiscus tea. I was very happy to see it on the menu, although I personally think it would be better served on its own rather than incorporated into one of their mixed drinks. The drink itself was just okay, but the hibiscus flavor was great. Overall, I can see why this place has become an Austin staple, but I think the experience could be improved significantly by making the waitlist process much clearer online and by improving the consistency of some of the food. The menu has a lot of potential, and clearly, some dishes are excellent! Unfortunately, mine just wasn't one of them.

I've been going to this Denny's pretty regularly, and it's really hit or miss. They have some kind of problem with their online ordering, I think. Multiple times I've placed an order online for pickup with some form of ice cream. Every time I've shown up and they were "all out of ice cream". Reminds me of McDonalds shutting down their shake machines hours before closing. Other than that, the online ordering system works. The food is good. Sometimes the eggs are a little overcooked, but nothing that I would really want to complain about. I usually get the Lumberjack slam with strawberry pancakes. It's a little overpriced but I enjoy dirty food like breakfast diners. Guilty pleasure. The staff varies a lot, too. Usually there are about 2-3 people who aren't paying attention, and a manager who goes around and puts out the fires for them. read more

It was good homecooking-style breakfast. The portions are insane. I ordered from the "senior menu" for the first time in my life---apparently I have been able to do this for the last two year since turning 55. Anyway, the portion was SO BIG for a senior meal! I barely ate half of it. That's ok, you know I got it to go so my boyfriend could eat it the next day. Jim's=Yay!

Our server recommended several wines by the glass and each was a perfect complement to our meals. As it turns out our son left a birthday card behind, the envelope had 5 gift cards inside which he didn't notice until the next day. He called the restaurant to see if they found them which they had. It made the perfect excuse for my wife and I to return for dinner, of course I had the porkchops again and they were as perfect as those the night before.
