My friend and I have brunch every Sunday, and we're both tired of hipster trendy spots where you have to get on the waitlist last Thursday but still must stand around to wait for a table pay or fight to park and pay $20 bucks for some clever new variant of a Benedict, with baby arugula and milk-fed pork belly braised in liberal tears. I said, "Frak it--let just go to the shiny aluminum Denny's on 35!" She looked as relieved as I felt. We got a parking spot right out front, were seated immediately, and got a quick tasty, cheap breakfast. She went semi-fancy and got a fruit crepe, while I stuck to basics: scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, and bacon. We both asked for crispy bacon and got it semi-flaccid, but it was still tasty. My taste of her crepe was delicious. Flaccid bacon aside, I enjoyed this brunch as much as I have in a good while. I think it had something to do with the noise level, which was much better than the shrill racket we had (nearly) become accustomed to. We could actually CONVERSE and even sing along under our breath when "Hungry Like The Wolf" played over the speakers. As I was pre caffeinated, I got out for under $10. All Hail Denny's! read more

Today is the day before Mother's Day. I wanted to enjoy breakfast with my family for the occasion. We were debating between iHop or Denny's, but decided on this location. We've been here before multiple times, nothing special. Today turned from the worst experience to the best experience. A server, I didn't check his name, he was a tall man with black curly hair, came up to our table. He didn't have a notepad so I was assuming he was just going to ask us if we were ready, but he asked what drinks we wanted. He came really close to me face-to-face to the point I moved back because I felt uncomfortable. Once I said water, my sister said, "Can I get a coke please." The man said, "Sure, if you can smile." I'm not sure if that was a "bit" of his, but his behavior had already made me uncomfortable, so I didn't like it. My sister stayed serious, and he turned to me for validation asking "Is she having a day?" I shook my head no because she was smiling earlier until he got too close and made that comment. Once he brought everyone's drinks, I think he tried redeeming his "bit" and said, "You know, that's what they say, 'a coke and a smile,' right?" To this, my sister said, "I think you're pushing it." He got defensive and kept trying to validate his comment. In the end, we got a different server, Megan F. The "F" must be for fabulous because she's amazing. She was super sweet. She recommended good things in the menu, warned me of the hot plate, and said, "Happy Mother's Day" to my mom on the way out. She constantly checked on us and one of those times I told her we were doing great but then as she walked away I asked for a straw and I felt bad but she was super nice about it! #I love Megan and #The other dude made me super uncomfortable. There aren't a lot of late-night options anymore, with most restaurants offering window service at best. Denny's is a great place to stop after a night of clubbing and is pretty reliable at producing a decent meal at a reasonable price. We were seated almost immediately upon arrival. If you have some time to kill, there is a claw machine located near the host stand if you're willing to try your luck. We ordered the Brisk-It-All melt, Philly cheesesteak omelette, pancakes and fries. This Denny's is located in a rougher part of town, a little worn-down and beat-up. I mean, the Denny's chain isn't too ritzy as is, but yeah. When we swung by to nab brunch on a Saturday, there were A LOT of people loitering in the parking lot and nearby at the adjoining gas station. I can't lie, it was a little off-putting. But not much Denny's can do about it; this one just happens to be in a seedy location. Seedy people gotta eat too, LOL! Anyway, once we were inside, everything was totally fine/normal. It was definitely crowded just because of the time of day on a Saturday, and we were told the wait would be 25 minutes... but then because there was only two of us, they offered us a spot at the bar immediately! We happily took it. Our waitress was effervescent and like a beacon of joy piercing through a cloudy day. Friendly, prompt, polite... everything you could want in a server. She was amazing. (Wish we'd gotten her name so we could tell management, cuz that girl deserves a raise! As is, we left her a nice large tip.) Our food was pretty good. Not mind-blowing, but decent. Wish my hashbrowns had been golden-browned a liiittle longer is all, really. Came out pretty quickly considering, like I said, the place was hopping with patrons! The bathroom needs WORK. Big oof. She sat us down eveything is fine until I notice that she was like non stop watching us to see if we were ready which clearly we were not so now I just rushed and thrown out a random order because I have anxiety and she was persistent. I really only came in and got a Milkshake, but I was more than pleased with the outstanding service I had received from the sweetest little angelic waitress, Carolina (I hope I spelled that right). She was incredibly sweet, very patient and helpful, and to watch her work ethic was just stunning. She is one of the hardest working people I've seen ion the food industry these days, and I certainly believe that you should find out for yourself just what a treat it'd be to have her as your waitress!!!! Hungry, and IHOP had the nerve to ask us if maybe somewhere else was open, so we ended up at Denny's. On the highway, and tucked between a Motel 6 and a gas station - there was the standard security/patron stand-off and "slippery when wet" signs, but our food was great, and our service was surprisingly delightful. We originally went to IHOP, and the server didn't acknowledge us or the other three groups that walked in behind. After a couple girls said, "nope, Denny's it is", we thought it'd be a good idea for us, too. We proceeded to Denny's and were immediately greeted by Oscar from behind the bar. My server was very rude and condescending. I ordered the turkey sandwich with cup of soup. I asked if I can have fries instead of soup, she said no. I said OK do you have broccoli cheese soup, she said yes. Fine, I'll take that. My food came out and instead of soup its steamed broccoli with white queso on it. I said this isn't soup, she replied we don't have soup this late. I'm thinking well why the hell did you say you had soup?! She said "Would you like fries instead" My mouth dropped... You can't be serious lady?! I say no and eat the broccoli with queso. I ordered my desert of pancake puppies sundae and as the menu states "ask server for toppings", I ask her. She scoffs, rolls her eyes, shrugs her shoulders and says its Oreo. At that point I just want to leave but for whatever reason I don't, I say OK. 15 minutes later she comes back and asks would I like chocolate or strawberry ice cream since they're out of vanilla. I choose strawberry and 10 minutes later she brings the desert out and its burnt to a crisp. She then ask would I like any chocolate syrup or nuts... Again, really lady?! You just said its only Oreo which I'm not a fan of anyways. The service was terrible and painfully slow (25 minute wait for 1 desert?!).
