The location is convenient , traditional atmosphere, reasonable prices and fairly clean. Easy access for overall parking. We have been coming here for a good while and it is expected to have minor modifications, updates to menu and xhange if personnel. Today's outing was a bit different. We brought our seniors out for their social outing, yet a simple "hello" or eye contact would have been more welcoming. The young gentleman just simply took payment, yet no simple greeting or eye contact to our group. After we situated everyone at their tables; the common conversation was how they felt bothersome to the cashier. It is expected that the younger generation find simple greetings to strangers as overrated, yet a simple eye contact (acknowledgement) or a "hello" goes a long long way for coming into the restaurant for homestyle cooking in a family environment. Many times alot of customers may either no longer have family or friends present and when they go out in public to socialize; when a simple " hello , touches their hearts". I received a $50 Luby's gift card for my birthday and it's unbelievable that after three Luann Platters for lunch that I still have $10 remaining! Full disclosure, I'm from a different era in that I grew up eating at Piccadilly Cafeterias in the late 60s and 70s before later starting as a manager trainee in 1988 and leaving as a general manager in 2001 and before going to work as a manager for Luby's in 2006, but even at today's prices of $10.99 for a Luann Platter it's still a great value to get an healthy entree, two fresh vegetables, and a bread! There's only two remaining Luby's in Austin and the unit near my workplace on Anderson/183 is older and in need of a remodel, but the vibe is authentically 1990s and the young and old employees and customers are as spirited and happy as any I've seen for decades. It is still amazing and incredible to see people lind up in the serving aisle from the silverware at the counter to the vestibule door at 12:45 p.m! Luby's is straight nostalgia for me. It's been around for so long, managed to survive the pandemic, and though there are very few locations left around San Antonio and Austin, I do enjoy a drop in once in a blue moon. I grew up enjoying Luby's as a kid on Sundays with the family. It's inexpensive and filling and you just can't find the old time cafeteria vibes anywhere else. Is the food great? Not by any means. But it's southern comfort food, it's served hot and ready, you can choose whatever weird combination of mains and sides and desserts and breads you want, and 2 people can eat a feast for less than $35 - which is rare nowadays. My go-to items are the carved turkey, fried okra, broccoli cheese casserole, and their mac and cheese. You can't go wrong with the fried fish, either, or a slice of one of their old fashioned pies. It's literally been decades since I've set foot inside a Lubys, and I have to admit it was better than I was expecting. Plenty of parking here and there's a large menu on the wall just before you get in line to make your selections. I have to admit there's a lot of variety sitting in those steaming chafing trays. I recommend getting here at the height of lunch or dinner because those heat lamps tend to dry the food out the longer it sits. To be honest the food is good and it's a step up from Golden corral and that's about it. When you check out with your selections, that tip screen will not be waiting for you, however they do offer you a cashback option so you can leave a few dollars on the table as a tip for your server. Large variety / selection of foods. Balanced diet items. It is a cafeteria style, but they will still help you with your tray to a table if needed. They do have people checking each table to see if you need anything else. Great value. It cost only a bit over $10 per person for a good meal and we were full. Parking lot has plenty of space. We were a table of 7 but had no trouble getting a table right away with our trays. It was a busy day, but there was good movements of customers. Wish there were more closer to us. read more

I love Luby's and look forward to visiting when I'm in town. This place always brings back childhood memories, as this was where we went after church on Sunday's. Food is always on point, fresh and warm. Service is prompt, sometimes with a smile sometimes without and that's okay. I like the lights throughout the ceiling at the Anderson Lane location. I used to take the kids to Luby's location at 183 and Lake Creek Parkway (closed now) fun times and fun memories. Always the LuAnn Platter for me, and most of the times it's fried fish. Salisbury steak is next, or chicken fried chicken. With a side salad. Cafeteria food for the win here at Luby's (in my opinion). My husband loves the Liver & Onions, I DO NOT agree with this choice. I enjoyed the saucy chicken tetrazzini as a half entree, with mashed potatoes and okra. Don't skip the gravy! The jalepeno cornbread was pretty unique, but I'd be interested the garlic bread next time, since I'm not a big jalapeño fan. The Mac n cheese was a good texture and cheesiness. not too salty like Chick-fil-A's. There are so many sides to choose from, with a mix of healthy and unhealthy choices. Today I had lunch at Luby's. I visited Luby's twice a month. Not a good day today maybe the table server had a bad day. They ignored my table when I sat down. I needed butter for my corn bread. Took 10 minutes and I had to raised my hand. I know I am an old Asian so minorities are not really welcome in anywhere. I loved the good old fashion food and I will come back but order to go. The Luby's closest to me is now permanently closed. You may remember the one off Mopac. Well anyway, I gave this one a shot and had the famous fish fillet. It was old and overcooked. But I think that's to be expected from a place that makes so much food to try to feed as many people as possible. That's why it gets at least 3 stars. My family hasn't been to Luby's in a long time because we live pretty far from the nearest location. My husband got a hankering for Salisbury steak, so we made the trek to the Luby's off Anderson Lane near Cameron tonight, and they definitely didn't disappoint! The line was spotless, the staff were top notch and extremely helpful, and the food not only looked good, it tasted great, too. Jello salad- portion has shrunk considerably. Bread still good and served Luke warm- not warm enough to soften your butter. Had lunch with my wife at Luby's on Friday. Not a terrible location. Not easy access coming from freeway. Seems to be busier at lunch than any other time. Food displayed was nice and looked good. A gentle reminder that this is a cafeteria and not a 4-star restaurant. I had expectations since the Luby's in Houston were terrific. I wasn't very excited about my meal here. They have a lot of food to choose from but neither one of them had much flavor. Thank goodness for the A1 Sauce. Service was great! I look for that interaction from the staff. Where I grew up in TX, they've since closed all of the Luby's. So to have this cafeteria in ATX makes my nostalgic heart happy. They've updated the decor. They've expanded the menu. Most disgusting food I've ever had! I spent over $70 on this horrendous food and left it all behind with only a few bites taken. The chicken is absolutely gross, and you can tell it was frost bitten before they fried it! The mashed potatoes were lumpy, the macaroni was watery and tasteless, the rolls were crusty and dry. Although the price point is quite high when some of the food is sold at Walmart in the frozen section for cheaper, I always enjoy my time at this location. I used to go to lunch here with my driving instructor when I was training with the United States Postal Service. Now, I go here with Highway Patrol colleagues and they treat us just as well. The tea refills are prompt and overall, the experience doesn't feel like the Luby's vibe I'm used to. I was so afraid when I heard that Luby's was shutting down a bunch of locations because I couldn't imagine this place shutting down. Keep it up! read more
