It's literally been decades since I've set foot inside a Lubys, and I have to admit it was better than I was expecting. Plenty of parking here and there's a large menu on the wall just before you get in line to make your selections. I have to admit there's a lot of variety sitting in those steaming chafing trays. I recommend getting here at the height of lunch or dinner because those heat lamps tend to dry the food out the longer it sits. To be honest the food is good and it's a step up from Golden corral and that's about it. When you check out with your selections, that tip screen will not be waiting for you, however they do offer you a cashback option so you can leave a few dollars on the table as a tip for your server. You can get Lubys to go and they are open11 to 8 7 days a week. Definitely good lunch or dinner spot at a great value. ***1/2

Luby's is straight nostalgia for me. It's been around for so long, managed to survive the pandemic, and though there are very few locations left around San Antonio and Austin, I do enjoy a drop in once in a blue moon. I grew up enjoying Luby's as a kid on Sundays with the family. It's inexpensive and filling and you just can't find the old time cafeteria vibes anywhere else. Is the food great? Not by any means. But it's southern comfort food, it's served hot and ready, you can choose whatever weird combination of mains and sides and desserts and breads you want, and 2 people can eat a feast for less than $35 - which is rare nowadays. My go-to items are the carved turkey, fried okra, broccoli cheese casserole, and their mac and cheese. You can't go wrong with the fried fish, either, or a slice of one of their old fashioned pies. Service is self-serve and very casual.

Always good food and kind service. I had the fried fish and tartar sauce which never is a bad choice. A go to when you don't know what to get.

Luann platter fried fish with fried okra & black eyed peas. Yum!! - A meal featuring fried fish with a crispy coating, black-eyed peas in a small bowl, fried okra, and potato salad on a white plate.

I love Luby's and look forward to visiting when I'm in town. This place always brings back childhood memories, as this was where we went after church on Sunday's. Food is always on point, fresh and warm. Service is prompt, sometimes with a smile sometimes without and that's okay. I like the lights throughout the ceiling at the Anderson Lane location. I used to take the kids to Luby's location at 183 and Lake Creek Parkway (closed now) fun times and fun memories. Always the LuAnn Platter for me, and most of the times it's fried fish. Salisbury steak is next, or chicken fried chicken. With a side salad. Cafeteria food for the win here at Luby's (in my opinion). My husband loves the Liver & Onions, I DO NOT agree with this choice. Or the Turkey & Dressing is a hit too.

I love Luby's!! And I know I'm probably the only person in my circle and family (other than my mother) that LOVES LIVER AND ONIONS!! My physician thought I was on iron pills when I was pregnant because I ate this so much. And because I can't touch raw liver I appreciate Luby's and they give you nice size portions for a great price!

A solid choice for cheap southern comfort food with a big group! Kids eat free on Wednesdays and Saturdays. One free kids meal with each purchase of an entree. I enjoyed the saucy chicken tetrazzini as a half entree, with mashed potatoes and okra. Don't skip the gravy! The jalepeno cornbread was pretty unique, but I'd be interested the garlic bread next time, since I'm not a big jalapeño fan. The Mac n cheese was a good texture and cheesiness. not too salty like Chick-fil-A's. There are so many sides to choose from, with a mix of healthy and unhealthy choices. Would be interested in their cut fruit next time! The hardest part is passing on their $3-5 desserts! Without dessert, we spent less than $20 to feed three people- amazing!

Stopped to get lunch for my elderly in-laws. Two liver & onion plates with gravy, cabbage, mashed potatoes, okra, a roll, cornbread, chocolate cake and pecan pie and it was hot & freshly prepared and perfect order with all the condiments! Kudos to the To Go staff, they were prompt and courteous! My only complaint is ordering and paying on line, but your cashier had to re-enter my order in his register before I could pick up. Why doesn't your technology connect so it can do what it's supposed to do and reduce some labor so it can be used elsewhere. Not effective process.

So decided to head over there and tried out. Once I got through the place was really nice, really clean and it was extremely packed. We waited about five minutes for a table, and they sat us down at four cedar. The server was really helpful.Brought us a menu.Everything looked pretty good.I decided to order the brisket burrito. It looked pretty good and he recommended it. I'm gonna start off by saying I got my meal about 10 minutes later. The potatoes were excellent loved. Em didn't have any complaints about Em. They tasted awesome. They were great now. On the other hand the burrito, not so much. The burrito was soggy, something was off with the meat. It tasted kind of bitter. I don't know if it was because of the barbecue sauce or what I ate about.Half of it before I couldn't eat it anymore. And I tossed it the other half. I was extremely disappointed with the meal.I paid about twenty four twenty five dollars.I believe for the meal and had to throw half of it away.Because it just didn't taste right.I didn't wanna make an issue. It looked phenomenal, just didn't taste like that. The other gripe I had was, I took a bite out of some of the burrito and noticed that it was a big glob of fat. Instead of actual brisket meat I probably should have stuck with the regular, which would have been bacon and eggs. But decided to try that.Because the way to recommended it sad I didn't stay with the eggs and bacon. Brisket burrito 2 outa 10 thats being generous Potatoes 5 outa 10 Wait staff 7 outa 10 he was slammed with tables Would I come back probably 50/50 chance to try the eggs and bacon In the picture it looks tasty but in actuality not so much

After making the reservation, I messaged the restaurant to let them know that we would have a doggie with us and to make sure that we were able to sit on the patio to allow for said dog. They were having a private event so part of the patio was taken however they still had ample space for other patrons to enjoy the outdoor area. Part of three our server I didn't catch their name was just OK. They ended up at one point accidentally pouring water into my wine glass for a refill and they did replace the partial glass of wine. Food wise though was on point. Got the whipped ricotta and bone marrow to start then pork shoulder, beef shoulder and fried chicken for the mains. All was delicious with healthy portions for left overs. The original order included Brussels sprouts as well but those didn't make it to the table nor on the ticket. Beverages were fine as well the area of improvement would be to ask if another round would be needed. As mentioned before the service was just ok as we didn't really get checked on often enough. I tend to avoid those places. Vida Verde Kitchen, thankfully, is not that. Tucked into a great area but slightly hidden (the kind of spot you feel proud to "discover"), Vida Verde feels like a restaurant that exists for people who actually want to eat, not just post. The menu is a thoughtful fusion of Tex-Mex, fresh flavors, and Americana--familiar enough to be comforting, but creative enough to keep things interesting. Yes, it's a bit overpriced, but the food earns its confidence. The guacamole is an absolute must, and anything leaning Tex-Mex is consistently solid. I can vouch. The wait staff deserves real credit here--knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely invested in the food and experience, which goes a long way these days. The atmosphere hits that Austin sweet spot: industrial touches softened by lush green foliage. It's stylish without trying too hard, which is rare and appreciated. If I had one note? This place needs a happy hour and a few more solid specials. Do that, and Vida Verde becomes dangerous--in the best way. The tacos also came with a very spicy salsa that I just had to take to go because it was soo good. If you want your money's worth, my sister recommended the shrimp fajitas as it comes with the most food and the shrimp was actually good. The service was fast and the waitress was very nice.
