    Turkey combo meal

Luby's is straight nostalgia for me. It's been around for so long, managed to survive the pandemic, and though there are very few locations left around San Antonio and Austin, I do enjoy a drop in once in a blue moon. I grew up enjoying Luby's as a kid on Sundays with the family. It's inexpensive and filling and you just can't find the old time cafeteria vibes anywhere else. Is the food great? Not by any means. But it's southern comfort food, it's served hot and ready, you can choose whatever weird combination of mains and sides and desserts and breads you want, and 2 people can eat a feast for less than $35 - which is rare nowadays. My go-to items are the carved turkey, fried okra, broccoli cheese casserole, and their mac and cheese. You can't go wrong with the fried fish, either, or a slice of one of their old fashioned pies. Service is self-serve and very casual.

It's literally been decades since I've set foot inside a Lubys, and I have to admit it was better than I was expecting. Plenty of parking here and there's a large menu on the wall just before you get in line to make your selections. I have to admit there's a lot of variety sitting in those steaming chafing trays. I recommend getting here at the height of lunch or dinner because those heat lamps tend to dry the food out the longer it sits. To be honest the food is good and it's a step up from Golden corral and that's about it. When you check out with your selections, that tip screen will not be waiting for you, however they do offer you a cashback option so you can leave a few dollars on the table as a tip for your server. You can get Lubys to go and they are open11 to 8 7 days a week. Definitely good lunch or dinner spot at a great value. ***1/2

Always good food and kind service. I had the fried fish and tartar sauce which never is a bad choice. A go to when you don't know what to get.

I love Luby's and look forward to visiting when I'm in town. This place always brings back childhood memories, as this was where we went after church on Sunday's. Food is always on point, fresh and warm. Service is prompt, sometimes with a smile sometimes without and that's okay. I like the lights throughout the ceiling at the Anderson Lane location. I used to take the kids to Luby's location at 183 and Lake Creek Parkway (closed now) fun times and fun memories. Always the LuAnn Platter for me, and most of the times it's fried fish. Salisbury steak is next, or chicken fried chicken. With a side salad. Cafeteria food for the win here at Luby's (in my opinion). My husband loves the Liver & Onions, I DO NOT agree with this choice. Or the Turkey & Dressing is a hit too.

I love Luby's!! And I know I'm probably the only person in my circle and family (other than my mother) that LOVES LIVER AND ONIONS!! My physician thought I was on iron pills when I was pregnant because I ate this so much. And because I can't touch raw liver I appreciate Luby's and they give you nice size portions for a great price!

A solid choice for cheap southern comfort food with a big group! Kids eat free on Wednesdays and Saturdays. One free kids meal with each purchase of an entree. I enjoyed the saucy chicken tetrazzini as a half entree, with mashed potatoes and okra. Don't skip the gravy! The jalepeno cornbread was pretty unique, but I'd be interested the garlic bread next time, since I'm not a big jalapeño fan. The Mac n cheese was a good texture and cheesiness. not too salty like Chick-fil-A's. There are so many sides to choose from, with a mix of healthy and unhealthy choices. Would be interested in their cut fruit next time! The hardest part is passing on their $3-5 desserts! Without dessert, we spent less than $20 to feed three people- amazing!

Stopped to get lunch for my elderly in-laws. Two liver & onion plates with gravy, cabbage, mashed potatoes, okra, a roll, cornbread, chocolate cake and pecan pie and it was hot & freshly prepared and perfect order with all the condiments! Kudos to the To Go staff, they were prompt and courteous! My only complaint is ordering and paying on line, but your cashier had to re-enter my order in his register before I could pick up. Why doesn't your technology connect so it can do what it's supposed to do and reduce some labor so it can be used elsewhere. Not effective process.

I may visit Obsidian Brewery time after time after time after time and never find out how their beer is. This is because a) They have an outstanding bar and b) They have an outstanding kitchen. For me, beer is a hardship beverage you drink when there is nothing else better available. When I go to a bar, I can sometimes be looking for mix-mastering. Usually I am looking for outstanding top of the line hard spirits. * * * When I walked into Obsidian, I looked at their bar. It was love at first sight. In front of me were twenty yards of three shelves of the most wonderful bottles I could possibly imagine. Half of them I had never heard of before. * * * I settled on a Buddha's Hand Gin. Buddha and Gin rarely appear in the same sentence Never mind the same label on a bottle. I ordered it straight up. I went immediately to Nirvana. Forget the meditation and the austerities. The Buddha's Hand Gin was as good as a trip to the Himalayas. Buddha's Hand is an obscure citrus fruit that grows multiple protuberances the way some horseradishes do. It is golden and looks like a hand. Ergo the name. The Buddha's Hand Gin is a citrus tinged gin with an edge more like orange zest than like orange juice. The additional botanicals make it strong, attention grabbing, fruity and yet combative. I was absolutely fascinated. Note that Buddha's Hand Gin is only one of the many items they have to explore there. I am totally ready to do more exploring. * * * The kitchen at Obsidian is also of distinction. The savvy local guide I came with adored his Thai Curry Wood Fired Rings. I went with a Cheesy Bread. This is open-faced grilled cheese on a thick slice of bread the size of a shoebox, with a wonderful homemade tomato sauce on about 1/3 of it. It is the best cheese pizza you have ever had. It is what cheese pizza is supposed to be if you don't use the standard canned ingredients that institutional providers sell to Domino's. I was as in love with my cheese bread as I was with my citrus gin. * * * The company was also outstanding. Which is just as well because Obsidian is a social place. Lots of Leanderthals having a fine time in couples and groups. This is not a loner's loser bar. You know - the dark rooms with misfits drinking their sixth beer while watching TV. This is a good folks good times full-of-sunlight place. So you definitely want to come with good folks. * * * Good food, good bottles, good people. And if you are feeling chipper, You can even have a homemade beer to celebrate.
