Farro Salad and Filet w/Bok Choy
Sandra G.

What a great neighborhood gem! Decided to try this restaurant out for weeknight dinner and so glad we did. Started with the Butternut Squash Soup topped with chipotle chocolate foam ... and words cannot describe the delightful flavors that you taste We then shared the farro salad served with chipotle honey dressing. Serving was enough to share and ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Also shared the filet with bok choy and meat dish which was tender cooked to perfection. Service was spot on, Chris (hope got name right) very personable and enhanced dining experience. Highly recommend Deluxe 1717 and plan on returning soon.

I live in Pasadena and often drive across Washington Blvd, passing Deluxe 1717 many times without really noticing it--until one evening I saw a good crowd inside. That caught my attention. The restaurant has both outdoor patio seating and indoor dining that overlooks the patio, with an open-air feel since there's no barrier between the two spaces. I decided to check out the menu, and it looked great--not cheap, but definitely reasonable for the quality they offer. I brought my daughter for our first visit after noticing they offer happy hour, which I like to try before diving into the full menu. My thinking is: if they can nail the small plates, the full menu is worth exploring. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly faces and made to feel completely welcome. I appreciated that no one made us feel awkward for just ordering from the happy hour menu--though we ended up ordering quite a bit anyway! We had the Chipotle Chicken Taquitos, Carne Asada Nachos, Brussels Sprouts, and a couple of glasses of wine. One detail that really stood out: the sommelier came over to check on us and chat briefly about the wine. That personal touch made me feel seen and valued. I love when a place treats you like more than just a table number. As for the food: * The Brussels sprouts were flavorful and cooked well, though a bit heavy on sauce and a touch too crispy for my preference--I'd ask for less sauce next time, but I'd still reorder them. * The taquitos had great toppings, but something about the chipotle flavor didn't land for us. We're taquito lovers and usually finish every bite, so this was a rare miss. That said, I'd give them another try if someone I'm with wants to order them. * The nachos were delicious--fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. I'd absolutely order them again. My daughter enjoyed the steak on them, though I personally wasn't a big fan--but I'm picky with meat. I'd probably try it with chicken next time or go full vegetarian. The freshness and flavor throughout the meal stood out, and there are several other menu items I'm looking forward to trying--especially the pulled pork sandwich, which I think my parents would love. I'm already planning to bring them here for a visit. All in all, I'm so happy to have discovered such a beautiful, welcoming, and quality-driven restaurant right on Washington Blvd in Pasadena. Thank you to the owners and staff--we appreciate you and will definitely be back!

The food was yum. We got the deluxe breakfast which comes with diced sweet potatoes with bell peppers and eggs your way with crispy bacon. The drinks were awesome. I had a hibiscus mimosa with natural tea, you can taste the the cinnamon in the hibiscus, excellent pairing with champagne. The environment was super clean, I felt like I was in Italy. Red Booth seats are brand new, so comfy. It was December in LA so a chilly morning but they kept it warm with the lamp heaters. Option to eat al fresco or on the booths and tables inside. Service was prompt and friendly. Will be coming back again!

Had a friend who lived in Altadena area recommend I try Deluxe 1717, and we were meeting a friend for brunch, who happens to live around there, so the stars aligned and I made a reservation and we headed over to meet her there for brunch on Saturday. We walked up to the restaurant and it was not very crowded, as it does feel more like a quaint local area that people from all over are not necessarily clamoring to drive to. So we were able to get seated right away (didn't seem to care there was a reservation as there wasn't any electronic check in system I noticed). So we were seated and brought water while we looked at the menu. There was only one server for the whole area, and she was definitely earning her money. We asked for recommendations, which she provided when we were ready to order, and we ended up going with the breakfast burrito with carnitas and the arepa benedict, also with carnitas. The burrito was a nice size, had a good amount of carnitas meat in it, and plenty of potatoes. BY itself, it was ok, not memorable, definitely needed the salsa to give it a little more flavor. But the burrito did not stand out, especially at its price point. The arepas benedict was more or less the same, albeit with a poached egg on top. The arepa, itself, was decent, but the overall benedict left much to be desired. Overall, Deluxe 1717 is a local restaurant serving cuban ish food with an indoor and patio area. The food really did not stand out, and it did take a while to get everything done with only one server working (again, she was working hard). Our server was very nice and that always goes a long way, but really cannot recommend the restaurant for brunch. Maybe dinner is better but brunch was not it, unfortunately

I recently did some research around Pasadena to find an excellent place for brunch, where my friends from Diamond Bar/Walnut could meet us coming from Redondo Beach. We are vegan and my friends are not, so Deluxe 1717 seemed to be a great place to try, so I made a reservation for us all to go last Saturday. All of our expectations were not only met, but exceeded. The location is ideal, very easy to find parking nearby. Upon entering, we were seated on their beautiful shaded patio area, where we were able to sit with our dogs, watch the people walking by and enjoy a wonderful brunch. I ordered the vegan breakfast burrito and plantains. Both were outstanding, as were the dishes for each of the rest of my party. We were fortunate to have Joanna as our server. She is amazing and went above and beyond providing excellent service. I highly recommend this outstanding establishment. We will be returning again soon and are customers for life.

Service was impeccable. FOOD was excellent! Brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked and the chips for the nachos were amazingly crispy since I believe they fry the tortillas in-house. Fiet had a nice chard flavor and very tender and the pork belly was cooked to perfection and not overyly sweer. For someone who cooks at home I was impressed.

We've wanted to come here for a while and we wish we had sooner, it's great! First off, our server, Logan, was EVERYTHING! Fun and knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions and did I say fun? Made our experience nice from the start. Casey (floor manager, maybe?) was cool too. Very welcoming to first timers. Now the food....holy cow! The menu has starters and mains, but we opted for a few shared plates from the starters. Grilled shrimp and potato skewers came with two sauces, and yeah, they were separately sauced so you can taste both! One peanut and one cilantro jalapeño...both delicious! Wednesday is taco special night so we had three snapper tacos for $17.17 (get it?) and they were yummy. Love that the corn tortillas are a little soft so they don't break all over the place. Still hungry so we got the nachos-skirt steak and lots of stuff piled on. The leftovers ended up being my husband's lunch today so I can't speak to how they held up but I almost ate them for breakfast, as good as they smelled! Wish we had room for dessert, but next time, as there definitely will be a next time! Wednesday is also wine night 17% off bottles! We left just as the jazz guy started but he was good even tho he has to fight the street noise. Fabulous spot, try it out!

Been aiming to come here and finally we came by on Saturday night. It was not full so we didn't have to wait at all. We got seated right away. The waiter who served us was very friendly but he was disappearing a lot whenever we need to refill our water. Their free bread and bread chips are so good! I might check out the meat market next door where they got the chip bread. Parking is in the back or street parking, there's plenty of them. Asian fish and chips has a nice crispiness but the batter seasoning is too spicy for me. Peruvian chicken is so good and I finish it all! Yuca chips are bland tho.. Cuban sandwich is just mediocre..nothing really special. Will come back when they update their menu because it seems like they alternate once in a while!

They have a friendly sommelier Jeff!

Last night though, we were a bit disappointed with service and food. After we were seated and ordered our drinks and appetizers, the waitress let us know that a plentiful of menu items were out of stock. (Pan seared chicken breast, NY steak, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, pork chop, branzino) Also, my boyfriend wanted Mezcal in his espresso martini instead of vodka and it was a $7 up charge which she failed to mention, (didn't realize until the bill had came) had we have known it was that price we would've opted for the normal concoction. Coming from someone who works in the restraunt industry as a general manager, It would've been greatly appreciated to have known nearly all of the entree items were out prior to being seated or at most ordering anything. We didn't want to just up and leave after we had already been seated and ordered appetizers/drinks. As we were ordering our limited entrees, we had placed an side of the mac and cheese and after she had rang it she had to come back to let us know they just ran out of that as well. It's disappointing because this was our first date night out after a few months and we really had to save up and wanted to make this special and didn't feel as if we got our moneys worth out of this one...everything took a left turn.

Wish I had thought to take more pictures starting from the start. The Started with a cocktail hour outside the bar area, including excellent plates of gourmet crudités with an especially delicious hummus (we wondered about the mystery flavor!) and ranch dressing, and separate plates of spicy salami, meltingly ripe brillat savarin cheese with grilled country bread amongst other delights such as marcona almonds, raisins, and dried apricot. Following the cocktail hour, we went in to a different outside area, which had been set up with a large U-shaped table of wood. It was rustic, but lovely.. I have taken a picture of the menu so you can see what we had. Every single item served was made with such care and intention to bring out the very best in the vegetables as well as the proteins. How could a simple green salad be so delicious? Every little tiny tomato screamed sweetness, and the dressing was sublime. Individual egetables were served with accompanying side sauces, and everybody was raving about how great they tasted. Who would've thought a simple carrot could be so great? Or a simple wedge of sweet potato with a papaya mustard sauce? Salmon cooked to perfection served on little French lentils with a dollop of butter sauce.. The best of all to me was the steak with mushrooms and a Demi- glacé sauce on the side. Wow, was that delicious! The presentation of the desserts was another high point! I was so full by that point, but of course we ate them anyway. See pictures. Whoever the chef is here, they are a person of meticulous artistry offering down-to-earth deliciousness. It wasnt that busy at the time of our arrival. There were a lot of tables and the noise level was quiet. The host was nice and sat us not too long after we arrived. The table that we got sat at was extremely wobbly. My father-in-law noticed another table had napkins placed underneath to stabilize so he did the same to our table and it worked. Tara took our order and brought out the drinks. The food was 90% great! The 10% that fell short was a combination of things. 1) menu online and the physical menu said corn bread (which we were told no longer serves them). If its no longer available, update the menu because we were excited to try the corn bread. 2) a bbq place with no wet naps, that is really weird. However, they did bring me a stack of paper towels that were wet as if they were wet naps. 3) only 1 steak knife was provided in the platters. It was hard for a party of 6 to cut up meat with only 1 steak knife. 4) one of the sides came out cold, and hard. I bit into a macaroni and it felt raw because of how hard it was! I even dropped the macaroni on the plate and it rang! We brought it to the servers attention and we were able to get a fresh one free of charge. We loved the short ribs and the tomahawk steak! They were delicious. Baked potato as a side item was very large! During the whole time we were eating, no one came by to check on us, refills were not provided until after we were done eating. We never got one of the drinks that Tara wrote down and it showed up on the check. I was trying to get a staff members attention, and my hand was raised up, and there were hosts that saw my hand raised, but did nothing. There were other servers and runners that saw it too. Took a while for us to get any help. We eventually flagged down our server after what felt like 5 minutes. We brought the charge to our servers attention, and they corrected that too. Overall, the table service could have been a lot better, fix broken tables, and I suggest you bring your own wet naps or baby wipes because they dont supply any.

QUICK TAKE Get: Fish of the Day, Lamb, Moroccan-style Mushrooms Skip: Duck was our one miss Know: This is a good place for adventurous eaters who like sharing dishes and trying unexpected flavor combinations. Holy Saints does a nice job of making food feel creative without crossing over into "trying too hard." There are a lot of different influences running through the menu, and several dishes had us talking about the flavors and ingredients as much as the food itself. What we tried: Moroccan-style Mushrooms - A great example of what Holy Saints does well. Earthy, savory mushrooms with contrasting textures from the nuts, thinly sliced radish, herbs and crispy elements on top. There was a lot happening on the plate, but it all worked together. Definitely one to share. Fish of the Day - One of the highlights of the meal and something I would absolutely order again. The fish came over rice in a deeply flavored sauce with peppers, herbs and fresh vegetables. Colorful, comforting and much more interesting than the standard fish-and-vegetables preparation you see at a lot of restaurants. Lamb - Another winner. Rich, hearty and well seasoned, with the sauce pulling everything together. If you're visiting for the first time and like lamb, this would be high on my list. Duck - Good flavor, but it seemed like the duck sauce could have benefited from a little more time to rest before being sliced and served. We joked that we should have brought a bag, taken it home and eaten it as leftovers instead. Sometimes duck might just need a night to think about what it did. What I liked most about Holy Saints is that the food wasn't boring. The kitchen takes familiar ingredients and puts them together in ways you probably wouldn't think of yourself, which makes it a fun restaurant for ordering several things and sharing around the table.

My partner and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were greeted accordingly by multiple staff members. We were seated at the front room, corner seat which is supposedly known as the "Love Seat". We ordered the broccolini which was amazing, focaccia bread and dip, mushroom pasta, meatballs, wine, and tiramisu for dessert. They also gave us complimentary white wine for celebrating our anniversary which was very kind of them. Our faves was the broccolini, focaccia and mushroom pasta. The broccolini was seasoned well, had a great char, and topped with shredded Parmesan. Mushroom pasta was very yummy and a large serving that we had some left to-go. The tiramisu is great if you prefer a more creamy take, however our preference is it to be more cake-y. The vibes were amazing and the space got more pleasant as the sun started going down. The vibe gives a vintage vibe and background music was tasteful. There's also a cool photo booth in the back room. Service was great. The workers were very attentive and genuine. Would come back.

The restaurant is dimly lit and the perfect vibe for an intimate GNO or date. We went through their kitchen to get to the back part of the restaurant where our table is, it was conveniently located right across the photo booth. My friend ordered their Moscato which was a perfect balance of sweet and floral - it paired very well with our dinner. I ordered one of their mocktails (I forgot the name!) Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu! We ordered the Caesar salad and Focaccia to start. The Caesar salad is anchovy forward however the sauce and the sourdough croutons were perfectly mixed in the salad the finely shredded cheese really topped it off! The focaccia was our favorite - we should've ordered the larger portion it had a great crust and soft interior. It came with chili oil, but we really enjoyed eating it with the Caesar salad. We shared their bucatini (unfortunately they were out of the pesto orecchiette that evening) which was just okay. We also had the broccolini which is a must get, the broccolini was perfectly cooked and the focaccia crumbs, Calabrian chili, and Parmesan on top complemented the dish. Overall, the meal was a little better than average - I'm interested in coming back to try their brunch!
