It has been years since I last had Del Taco. I found myself in a small conundrum of having an issue with the bank and the lack of funds in it. As dearly as my soul craved chipotle, I refused to spend more than $20 for dinner in a pinch. Del Taco has changed quite a bit since my last visit and inflation really hit this place hard. I remember there being a dollar menu not it's about a $2 small menu. Crazy how much is changed. I went with the chicken quesadilla and an epic queso burrito with some queso fries. All in all it was a little over $20 which was a bit of a shock but it was satisfying enough to fill the tank. I discovered during my visit they are open 24 hrs which really amazed me because after Covid those kinda restaurants are a rare commodity these days in Albuquerque. I can honestly say the next time I am cruising for food after midnight they will definitely be considered to satisfy my late night cravings. read more

Food was cold. All of it. I returned my hash browns and requested fries instead. Server behind the counter told me she would bring them out as soon as they were done. Then proceeded to hand out fresh fries to the drive up window patrons, and 8 other people who came in after. I wasn't going to remind her. The breakfast wrap was cold as well as I stated, and fell apart. The breakfast roller was like concrete as the American cheese(should be cheddar) they used had congealed. The ambiance equates to, two employees on their break spending the entire time yelling to the kitchen workers. No music. I've been to del taco restaurants all over the southwest and Southern California. I have to say this is the worst location I have ever been too. I don't say that lightly. Food was fine. Manager (middle aged larger woman) was the nastiest talking human I've interacted with in many many months. That says a lot, since I'm a retail manager and deal with "Karen's" every week. The cashier was a newer employee and made a mistake when ringing up our food. The manager belittled him at the register - with a store full of employees (we counted 7 on break at 10am) and customers in the store. Came through the Del Taco drive-through yesterday for a between-meal snack. I went for a Fresh Fave Box Meal, one of those variety packs with fries and a drink (unsweetened iced tea for me). I picked a box featuring two chicken soft tacos and a chicken quesadilla. I ordered the tacos without sauce, and the kitchen crew nailed it. Del Taco's chicken soft tacos are remarkably good, and the chicken quesadilla also beats out Taco Bell's comparable offering. I doused on some hot sauce and went to town. Can't say much for the fries, though. Crinkle cut is a bold choice, but mine were much too soft, as if they hadn't been fried sufficiently, or had been gathering humidity waiting to be served. I ate a few and tossed the rest. Still, it was a tasty snack, and the price point is quite competitive. Without the sauce on the chicken soft tacos, it's a touch less unhealthy, perhaps, than the average fast food item. read more

First of all the only time I have to go here is usually really early in the morning like between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. So I can't speak for like late morning, afternoon, evening, or night experiences or employees. The coffee is delicious AF. The customer service is phenomenal, it's so nice to be greeted at the window with a genuine smile and exceptional customer service. I usually get the vegetarian burrito or seven layer burrito or whatever it's called, I don't know because I always just order through an app and just click the reorder button so I don't even know what it's called. But anyway it's delicious and it absolutely smacks every time. It's also awesome that the employees during this time or employee because I usually see the same one is bilingual, makes me feel like I'm home. I don't know about the ambience inside but the drive-thru is great. Through the drive-thru window the inside looks nice like but I don't like to go inside restaurants so I'm going to just say that I think it's pretty good. Del Taco is one of my guilty pleasures. Is it as good as any other Mexican restaurant? No! But there are some things that I like there, and they are priced well, and it's fast food. The beef and fish tacos are decent. I do really like the quesadilla, and they have my favorite strawberry milkshake of any fast food restaurant. Came here to crush some fish tacos. I opened the taco wrapper like a husband unsnapping his wife's bra strap on his honeymoon. They double wrap the filling in two white corn tortillas. The fried flaky white fish (not sure if it's cod) was covered with cabbage, tomatoes and cilantro. A lime stood sentinel outside the taco waiting to be squeezed. I must say, the fish was a bit above average and the combination of cabbage and the lime juice was satisfying. I killed two fish soft tacos and a shrimp soft taco. I preferred the fish as the fillets were quite generous compared to a few small shrimp on the shrimp taco. This visit reinforced my last rating of three stars, although this time I would bump them to 3.5 stars. read more

Normally this Del Taco is super fast and accurate with orders however yesterday we experienced something different. They asked us to pull out to the parking lot where we waited close to twenty minutes. When the person from two orders after us was asked to do the same and eventually walked into the restaurant to inquire about their order, we did the same. Turns out our order got "lost" and they had to remake it all over again. It was very confusing cause again, I wouldn't expect that at Del Taco. Within minutes they came back out with our food. We were in a hurry to leave, so I thanked the lady and took off, not really hearing all she said. It turns out they added churros as a thank you for waiting... I was floored. What a nice gesture! For 20 years, at dozens of Del Tacos, my standard order has been the grilled chicken taco (née chicken soft taco) with extra sauce. I have ordered more than 1000 of them. Never once have I been charged for the extra sauce. Until visiting this place. 50 cents extra per taco - a 36% surcharge. That seems quite excessive for an extra squirt of sauce. If they all charged this, I would accept it, but I've been to about 40 different locations all over the West, and never once encountered this. Still... it's Del Taco. So it's delicious. The most underrated fast food chain. And the woman working the counter was very friendly. But I won't be back. That surcharge rubbed me the wrong way. It's their right to charge whatever they want for the product and it's my right to never return. read more

However, the two times I visited, I was given real meat and/or cheese on items advertised as vegan. They consistently run out of mild sauce which is the original sauce and the only reason I go to this del taco because it's the only thing I know will taste like it's supposed to. It is a constant disappointment and I would rather drive to Barstow, .CA, to the "choice" Del taco, than ever go to the one on Montgomery in Albuquerque again! I tell people never to go to this Del Taco, because it shames the name and is an embarrassment to the business. I have contacted corporate more than once. Came here for late night burrito and fries. I ordered an epic steak and potato burrito and deluxe chili cheese fries. There was A LOT like a huge amount of potatoes and probably 2% steak in the supposedly-almost-all-meat burrito. What pissed me off the most was fries were so cold. Seems like it's been sitting there for 5 hours. Guy didn't even bother refrying or reheating them. I had to microwave them when I got home, which is 3 mins away, and now I'm eating soggy fries. So I usually got very good food and service here but I really don't know what happened or who's working tonight. Very disappointed. read more
