Huevos Rancheros burrito with runny eggs
Chad P.

Okay everyone, you have to hear this. I've been to New Mexico once or twice and I have just always so much loved New Mexican food since a friend introduced me to it. But you can't really find it anywhere else in the country. You can find variations of Cal-Mex and Tex-Mex here and there but there's nothing that really compares to the New Mexican cuisine. So on this very long road trip I was taking, I had to find a place to stop and get some sort of New Mexican cuisine. So after staying the night in Tucumcari, I piled into the car early in the morning and headed towards Flagstaff. I knew I would be passing through Albuquerque so there would be plenty of opportunity. After Yelping to figure out what would give me a really good breakfast burrito and probably not should have been doing that while I was driving, I stumbled across Burrito Express. It came across as no frills and just overall good food for a good price point. So after mapping where I needed to go, I was set. Passing through Albuquerque a couple hours later, I stopped and found some parking with just a little bit of difficulty. It's a very busy strip mall so there's lots of cars around. I walked in and asked the very friendly employee for a delicious New Mexican breakfast burrito. He helped me figure out exactly what I wanted and when he asked me how I wanted my eggs, I was initially confused. What do you mean how do I want my eggs? I've never been asked that before when regards to a breakfast burrito. He said I could have them runny if I wanted. Okay! So I did just that. And this was one of the best breakfast burritos I have ever had! Thoroughly delicious and really made my quick stop in Albuquerque worth it. Wish I could have stayed longer.

The homeade tortillas here are addicting A delicious burrito New location this is, open only a few weeks, easy access just off Jefferson. Not busy at all....yet Good choice for a fast to-go meal

Ah, Burrito Express... my trip here was a mixed blessing. On one hand, the burrito was exceptionally unexceptional. But on the other hand, at least I can mark it off my list of places to try now. I must be missing something with those 5 star reviews... My burrito was the picture of mediocrity. Though the tortilla had a decidedly homemade quality to it, it was too dense and flavorless to be a saving grace. On the subject of tortillas, I think they misheard me when I asked for a breakfast burrito, because I'm pretty sure they gave me a tortilla burrito instead... although I did detect a meager thread of yellow and orange stuff running thru the middle of my flour roll-up. Truly, given the list of ingredients in this particular menu option, I cannot imagine they added more than two thin strands of "sautéed green pepper" or a literal half-teaspoon of tomatoes or any other filling. And for the record, it tasted... well, yellow and orange. There was simply very little flavor, New Mexican or otherwise. Upon first review of the menu board, I thought "Cool! They're all only $5ish!" Upon first review of our goods, however, I realized they were actually pretty overpriced. To their credit, my 10-year-old enjoyed his steak burrito and said it was just as good as Twisters. He's only 10 though, and would say the same about Taco Bell. I'm sure there are plenty of folks who appreciate the simpler burritos in life, and that's perfectly respectable. For my part, I'm super disappointed that I squandered my rare breakfast burrito calories on this mediocre thing. I will not go back.

The Chili Cheese Fries. I was completely disgusted after finding a HAIR in my food.

I found hair in my green Chile cheese fries here today not too long ago I was there. I'm very happy they were able to make me a new bowl of fries which did make it up to me but I would hope you guys do wear hair caps and or have your hair tied back while dealing with food. Thank you!

If you have not been, you need to. The food is great and the family the owns the business is #newmexicotrue. Get the asado. Thank me later. Super cool old school car signs inside too, great environment. Convenient locations in the heights and Westside.

Friendly and fast. But the beef burrito was loaded with too much refried pinto beans. It's all I tasted.

The bread is clearly baked fresh and was nice and crusty on the outside and fluffy with the perfect chew on the inside. My mini me 1 inhaled her grilled cheese (of which my husband ordered the full size and also demolished his), and mini me 2 and I shared the toasted tuna melt. Good balance of tuna, celery, and bread ratio, but I didn't dig the olives in it. There's a mini kale salad that comes with entrees, and it was healthy and palatable for kale. We did end up balancing that green with the pistachio cruffin and pistachio chocolate chip cookie. Would definitely go back for the cruffin with its flaky layers and luscious pastry cream. Cookie was less impressive but still worth the impulse buy. Indoor and breezy outdoor seating available. Highly recommend!

We ordered and got a table inside right away. First impression is that its very inviting and cozy. Staff was so friendly. We ordered the lemon herb turkey sandwich, tuna toastie sandwich, and croque madam. Every single sandwich was absolutely delicious. The turkey had fresh dill and sprouts, avocado and this lemon jam which was the star. Tuna was so good. Some tuna is really fishy and this one had such a great flavor and the croque madam with that side of mustard was such a great combination. It was so good I came back during the week and had the beef sirlion sandwich that was so flavorful with the arugula and onion jam and had to finish it off with the best lemon blueberry muffin. Highly recommend if you are looking for good food with great flavor combinations.

04/13/26 First of…read moreall, don't let the other reviews of a "sketchy" area deter you from visiting Vick's Vittles. The area looks old and poor, but near the restaurant, we didn't see anything sketchy. When we were leaving, we did see some homeless people at the main intersection, but we didn't see anything we'd describe as sketchy. We did notice there is a mobile home park behind the restaurant, but there is a wall between the mobile home park and the restaurant parking lot. Even if there were police surrounding the mobile home park, we'd still venture inside to eat. The food is that good. We shared the cowboy breakfast burrito and the Santa Fe pancakes. Both were filling and ridiculously good. The Santa Fe pancakes made with blue corn, roasted piñons, green chili, and cheddar jack cheese were different than anything else we've ever had. I'll admit I didn't love my first bite or two, but the more I ate, the more I wanted. The pancakes are dry, but if you drizzle some syrup, it's the perfect match. The accompanying eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. The cowboy breakfast burrito is massive, filling, and worth every calorie. Even though we were stuffed, we had to get the peach with green chile turnover. We asked if the turnover is served warm and our waitress replied that she could warm it up for is. I'm not sure that it is normally served warm, but I highly recommend it. The turnover flaky, the glaze was silky once warmed up and the peach with green chile was unique and delicious. Five star service and food. I highly recommend Vick's Vittles and hope that I'm in the area again so I can try more of this delicious food.

All new staff that clearly don't understand the restraunt business. Went in today for breakfast, seated in the back. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. Took longer than normal to get waited on. Placed our order, had to correct the waitress several time on our order. Waited quite awhile, long enough to need more coffee. None was coming so had to call out to another waitress to get more. Our waitress did come back to bring the coffee. Before she got there we were discussing the fact that the entire staff was new. She must have overheard us and took it as some kind of slight to her. Two minutes later the manager came over to inform us that we were being rude to her server and that she would be taking over our service. After some discussion my wife said, "this is ridiculous, guess we won't be coming here again" the manager said "well I'll cancel your order and you can leave now". We said we didnt want her to cancel our order and she just said have a nice day. So we left. Sooo not the Vicks Vittles of the past.

The person who…read moreanswered was incredibly helpful and patiently explained that only the name had changed, which I appreciated. For our meal, we ordered two Chicken & Waffles plates, a Blue Corn Lavender Waffle, and a kids' plate. The Chicken & Waffles were the highlight of the meal, offering a satisfying balance of sweet and savory flavors. The Blue Corn Lavender Waffle was a unique touch and a fun way to try something distinctly New Mexican. Neither my wife nor I cared for the drip coffee, so we asked a staff member if we could swap it out for double espressos. They were happy to accommodate us, and the espresso was a significant improvement. The service was friendly, and the staff made a positive first impression from the phone call all the way through our visit. For our family, the total came to about $80, which felt a little steep. We ended up eating inside since the patio tables were either occupied or unavailable (due to a sleeping homeless person). The restaurant is housed in a renovated older home, and they've done a nice job making the most of the space. One of my favorite touches was the collection of retro waffle makers displayed along the walls, which added a fun, nostalgic charm to the atmosphere. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I'd happily return to explore more of the menu.

I had to pick between savory and sweet, and the menu is huge with lots of options plus build your own! I went for savory and got it with goat cheese and spinach (built my own). It was delightful. The blue corn is just a tinge sweet so was an interesting mix. The waffle is a decent size but is super filling and dense. I'll have to try some sweet waffles or some different waffle bases next time! That said there are lots of gluten free options as well, so if that's for you, then don't hesitate to come check it out you won't be disappointed. There is indoor and outdoor seating, though in general the place is small-ish and can get crowded during busy times. Parking is also a bit of an adventure, but so is anywhere in that area. The staff is super friendly as well. All in all a great experience and I will be back. I can't believe it took me so long to get here in the first place!
