Overall: The food is pretty good and they are often open during late night or holiday hours when other restaurants are closed, but it is in a pretty sketchy area of Albuquerque. Food: 5 We got a couple of items including their quesadilla with birria and carne asada fries. Both were very tasty and one of the better versions that we've tried in Albuquerque. Service: 4 The guy that took our order was super chill even though we changed our orders a couple of times and they were clearly pretty busy as it was NYE. Ambiance: 2 As mentioned above, the restaurant is in a very sketchy area of Albuquerque. I highly do not recommend coming here alone especially at night. read more

there was a SHARP CHUNK OF METAL in my burrito. I called to let them know, not expecting a refund, literally just to let them know what happened so it doesn't happen to someone else. The lady said she didn't speak english(totally fine), but when I started using Google Translate she suddenly was able to speak English just fine. She was avoiding the question and eventually HUNG UP on me. I called back over and over because fuck that, now I'd like a refund if you're going to be rude about it. IF THERE WAS METAL IN MY FOOD! AND IF THEY TREATED ME LIKE THIS, WHAT ELSE IS IN THE FOOD?! I'm SO disappointed I rly just called to be nice. But I've reported them to BBB and good safety. *ingesting metal can cause intestinal obstruction, perforation (tears) of the digestive tract, peritonitis, and bleeding. read more

I've passed by this place during my random cruises. I've found myself curious but I hadn't been curious enough to venture alone. My friend wanted to get some dinner. We both thought hey tacos sound really great right about now. We definitely weren't feeling fast food. Although a taco truck was tempting personally I wanted something new. Something fresh! After 20 minutes of salivating and draining the battery on my phone looking for somewhere it snapped. Today was the day! Walking in this place definitely gets me hole in the wall vibes. I don't mean that in a negative way. What I mean is those kinda places always have legit tasty food! I knew I was in for a spectacular dinner when I perused the hard to miss menu posted on the wall behind the register. From birria ramen to tacos this place had it all. I settled with 2 carne asada tacos, the fajita plate, and of course you know I had to get my quesadilla on! I apologize in advance for not taking all the photos. All I know is I blinked and it was all gone! The tacos were legit. A savory flavor that hooks you from the first bite. My only regret was not buying more. The fajitas were nice and juicy packed with flavor. The quesadilla was actually pretty good sized. The cheese was delicious! The staff is also very friendly and helpful when you're curious about the menu. I really appreciate an employee who can give me the scoop on what's good in the joint. That really goes a long way for me. Overall the food was really tasty. The prices weren't too outrageous either. With the options for dine in or take out it's a great place for dinner or lunch. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area! read more

The exterior signage did not read Birria Estilo Zacatecas. Ambiance- there was one person dining and the gentleman at the register was on the phone while we waited to be acknowledged. He got off the phone and went to the kitchen, again, not acknowledged while we stood at the order counter. I decided to leave with my husband. Not a good first impression read more

Solid tacos. Decent pricing. If you sit inside - you will come out smelling like grease/meat haha Not the best tacos I have had in ABQ, but a solid spot to check out nonetheless. read more

I never leave reviews but thought I'd put one out to warn everyone. I didn't get a chance to take a picture because I was contemplating whether to say something or now but now I feel like I need to. I ordered 5 birria rolled tacos with guacamole.. to go. As I had the bag of food sitting on my lap I never felt the heat off the container from the 8 minute drive I live from this place. Got home.. opened the box and the smothered guac looked like there was a baby diaper accident going on. Not at all appetizing looking. Next I took a bite and they were cold.. nothing about the meat was " birria" Very disappointed as this was my first time there. $14+ with tax not worth it!! Should of just went to Federico's! read more

a ton of food for the money and very solid choice! they had the actual worst fountain soda i have ever had. Otherwise pretty great late night spot in the ABQ. read more

Good local spot! Be aware that food does take a little to come out so it's better to order ahead or plan to relax for a bit. BUT the food was really great and fresh! We love down the road and know finding local spots in this part of town can be intimidating but this spot has a nice family feel. Not necessarily a dine in kind of place but there are tables if need be. read more

Was craving tacos and came here the other day. I wanted to try a couple different types. I went with Suadero, Asada and tacos envenenados ( Zacatecas style of tacos with potatoes, chorizo, and onions in a fried tortilla.) All the tacos were delicious and loaded with meat. They were very friendly and prompt with their service. I'll definitely be back to try the birria pizza in the future. read more

Incredible delicious tacos, lots of chesse and the Birra sauce to die for. I have not tried anything else yet, but plan to soon. read more

Major fail. Polystyrene packaging. 2 lengua tacos, 2 asadero tacos tossed into same container. The protein was intermixed. My neighbor was sharing the order but doesn't eat lengua so this was a big mistake. Didn't receive salsa and even paid for extra. No radishes either. Really bad service and presentation. So it's Sunday evening and the owners thought they'd left their business in good hands? Time to do a personnel overhaul. Seriously, how could I even recommend this place? Totally disappointed. read more

Had this one of the first times we came to town and it helped solidify my choice moving here for sure. I forgot how good food could taste until I had both of their birria tacos and the quesadillas. I plan on trying the rest of their menu items as well. Didn't take any pictures because I was too busy shoving my face full. They do put the onions and cilantro on the side which I appreciate, and they give you a good bit so you can go heavy on it which I definitely appreciated. They're super fast too, the food is always super hot and fresh. They have very easily become one of my favorite restaurants read more

Good chicken tacos. Shady neighborhood probably wouldn't go there near dark. Was good. Birria super fries needed more birroa sauce

Decided to eat here on the way to Santa Fe. The service is top-notch. The cashier is very kind and helpful. The music is on point. The price is on their food the quality of their food, really good. I would definitely recommend this place to any newcomers or residence of Albuquerque because this reminds me of the Mexican food back at home I will be coming back for sure. read more

My mother and I were looking for a good restaurant close to where we were. Not to mention it was Mother's day and after 2pm. The food was so delicious I cleaned my plate! And the salsa cups were Hot!! But it is our new go to when we're in the area. A must try!! read more

Me and my husband stumbled across this place by accident because the place we were going to go eat at was closed and I am So Happy we ended up here. The food is absolutely amazing! I had a Birria that came with 2 Birria Tacos on the side ($15) that was so scrumptious and so big - the Birria in the cup could easily feed 2-3 people. My husband had an Asada Torta that was very delicious and left him craving more. The green salsa was FIRE - brought me memories of a green salsa that I absolutely love in Houston and can't get here. The service was very friendly and fast. The building itself was very cold the day we went but the young lady taking our orders offered to bring me a heater to where I was sitting . The bathroom was not the cleanest - so they might need to give that a little more attention. Overall we were very happy with our food and the service so we continue to come back. read more

Taco shop turned brick and mortar! Super spacious area, it's at a small strip mall at the corner so entering/leaving is easy especially on those high traffic days. Super quick and friendly service, they have a giant menu where you order and such. Lots of variety. Their tacos are super filling with tons of meat. A bit on the dry end but still tasty! Torta bread reminds me of the potato bread but again, tons of meat and guac and a handful of lettuce. AND THEIR SALSAS OMG. There's a red one and a creamy green one. Can't tell you the difference but they're spicy and so flavorful!!! Like, this on the tacos and the torta. It's a masterpiece. Would definitely recommend and support small business!! read more

We were looking for the best street tacos in Albuquerque and kept seeing great reviews for this restaurant. We ordered the birria tacos (which were ok, but the broth was very blah) and the other party wanted to try 3 different tacos. Disappointingly, they only had 1/2 of the meat options on their menu available. Of the 3 I got, 2 were so dry and tough and didn't taste like meat at all, but the barbacoa was delicious. I should have just gone with 3 of those. A 3 star was only because the service was ok, the tacos would have only gotten a 1 or 2 star at the most. As one other guest mentioned, you do come out of there smelling like old fryer grease, which is kind of gross. read more

Wow, I ordered here via Uber Eats and I'm not even done eating but am compelled to write a review. This has got to be easily some of the best Mexican food I have ever had! The carne asada tacos were so tasty and delicious. The taquitos supreme was so good, crunchy and unbelievable. Steak Quesadillas amazing too. Wow, what an unexpected surprise. Portions big and price is reasonable. I hope ABQ residents keep this place in business so I can eat here when I come back to town next year! read more

Sucks! Birria tacos are never fully cooked I've DoorDash from them for a while and recently they've been completely off and unsanitary it's visible. I recently just ordered from them, trying to give them a second chance from the last time. I couldn't even finish my second taco from the five that it came with it nearly made me sick after that I decided I'm never gonna eat or order from there again there's always some type of intestine in the taco I can't even describe what was in my taco the last time it was some gray intestine of the animal it was huge and made me sick to my stomach! read more

We loved every inch of the food. The rice & beans wonderful and fresh and so much flavor. The birria melts in your mouth. The taquitos r the best i have ever had! The carne asada fries r excellent. The meat was tasteful no fat pieces. Everything is excellent. When my family comes down this is where i would take. So delicious. This city definitely has its range of Mexican food options from: New-Mexican to Tex-Mex, or even traditional Mexican. Sadly, I feel that a lot of former local "go to" places have fallen on rougher times due to the pandemic. In any case, finding Los Tacos del Rey was like finding a large body of standing water in this city. An oasis. Un milagro. I thank the Burque yelp skeleton crew for the guidance. We may not be a large city, but I appreciate all the people that participate here (both locals and visitors) for their contributions. You've all helped me eat better and support more local businesses, so I thank you. Quesabirria lovers, rejoice. I've tried a variety of birria around town with mixed results. Some like to get crazy with the cinnamon and/or ginger in their consomme while others sell a product that tastes like beef boiled in used dishwater. Los Tacos del Rey nails their consomme with: beef, deeper beef, and deepest beef flavor. It is indescribably hearty. They may use some ginger or cinnamon, but if they do, then it's subtle enough to not be the predominant flavor, and I prefer it that way. Add some fresh onion, cilantro, lime juice and a bit of their green or chipotle salsas after your consomme dunk and you're done. You WILL be back. Their prices are ridiculously fair given the state of things for the quantity/quality of food that they provide. I've also tried their chicken fajitas, carnitas chimichanga, and carnitas burrito. They're all the best I've had in town when it comes to what I think of as traditional Mexican food (yes, I know that I included Tex-Mex fajitas and the AZ Chimi, but they're all that I've tried up till now) and their prices are unbeaten when a frozen/processed fast-food "value meal" now costs $15+. read more

We ordered four orders of the Birria tacos and all four of us got very sick. We called the manager and they stated it's not their issue. They told us to contact door dash and of course door dash stated that it wasn't their issue either. I am dissatisfied with this restaurant how they handled an $80 order that gave us food poisoning. I will NEVER eat here again due to poor customer service and we all got food poisoning. read more

This little taco joint is still the champ in ABQ. Nothing even comes close. Really, the Birria tacos, the Suadero & Barbacoa Burritos are just perfect. The green & red sauce are delicious. My family craves this place. We've tried tons of other taco places in town, but nothing compares. Don't let the neighborhood or exterior dissuade you...this place is THE BEST.
