Nothing better than going for comfort food for the southwestern at a local taqueria. So we ventured and we found El Muchacho Alegre. It was quite hidden but what a find! The menu was simple with well-know classics like tacos, tortas, quesadillas, nachos, papa asada, and burritos with your choice of carne asada, chicken, carnitas, barbacoa, and al pastor meat. We chose the vampiros with carnitas and al pastor (with a prior taste of carne asada). We also got some chips and salsa. In addition, they have a nice selection of Mexican sodas including Jarritos and Mexican Fanta and Coke. The vampiros are 3 tostadas (toasted corn tortillas) with the meat on top. These vampiros were very strong and crunchy, without crumbling into pieces under pressure. The amount of meat on each vampiro was respectable. The salsas were tasty and spicy enough. If you ask for salsa macha, you will get a whole few levels of spicy kick. Last, we got a good bunch of chips with a smoky salsa to accompany them. At the end, the friendly employees let us know they are opening a second location in the south valley, and with these flavors and quality, I bet they will be quite successful!

This place is surprising! First in the heights you don't get this flavor. Most of the Taco places up here fake it but don't cut it, this place tastes like I drove down to the valley to get this food. I had the Tacos Al Pastor and shared some Carne Asada fries. Both were on point, the chile verde was my favorite of the two salsas that came with the food. I drank a Mexican coke. The place is clean, it's hidden, and the service was friendly and quick, you can't ask for much more. All the food is served in take out containers which isn't a problem for me but you should know. I hope this places sticks around for a while it's close to my home and I will definitely be coming back.

This is hands down the best food in town. We are regulars to the food truck and every time the food is fantastic. The family that owns the business are great people and make every thing from scratch.... Yes handmade corn tortillas!! The Carne asada fries are the best and the birria ramen is amazing. Literally everything we have had here is awesome. 100% recommend to all!!!

Overall it was pretty good. The service was great. The quality of the food was great. The meat was well seasoned and cooked just right. No dryness at all. The salsas were good I preferred the green. The tortillas were homemade and crispy. Most places the tortillas are soft. Not these. Inside the restaurant it's really clean and open seating. It was quite a nice lunch setting. I'd recommend this place.

I was in the area, after my haircut, I saw this restaurant across the parking lot. Immediately I wanted to give this place a try. Glad I did be cause the taco plate hit the spot. The nice thing about the taco plate is that it comes with 4 tacos and you can choose two different types of meat. I picked Al Pastor and Carnitas. Both solid choices and super filling. Definitely will be back to try their Tortas. I would recommend others to come by and check them out.

$14 dollars for this and was cold within 5 minutes of getting my order. This is ridiculous

This Sinaloense place is phenomenal (thanks to Elite Yelper Jean for the heads up)! You don't need to go to Culiacán or track down the food truck that got these folks established - this is the real deal. REALLY wonderful meats: tons of flavor but not greasy, great cilantro/onion/cucumber toppings and PLENTY of meat on each. The tacos came with pico de gallo and red and green salsas and the vampiros had those as well as guacamole and sour cream. We had tacos de asada and carnitas (you can pick two meats - four tacos in total) as well as vampiros (very lightly toasted tortillas - sort of like tostadas; you can pick two meats here as well, but only three in total) with barbacoa and al pastor (which had cheese). Yuu-uum - not one bite of it was anything less than very delicious, and most of it was - well, phenomenal. If I were ranking them . . . eesh - the asada, barbacoa and carnitas (A, B & C!) were just top-notch. The vampiro al pastor was very delicious, but not as sweet as expected in an al pastor (and with really yummy cheese, too) . . . something I actually welcomed, but it didn't make me want to grab even more of the meat to eat with my fingers the way A, B & C did. (I was full by this time, too, so I just wanted to eat more for the sake of tasting it.) The room is spacious and offers a couple TVs if you feel like watching. Nice location with plenty of parking at the back of the Scottsdale Village shopping plaza, between a brewery outlet and an ice cream store (pick your poison!). Service was gentle and gracious, and available in either Spanish or English (both flawless and unaccented - wish I could do that). As soon as we got home, my wife and I started planning our next visit to Tacos El Muchacho Alegre - and then I texted several friends to tell them about it. The place is aptly named: I'm a happy boy!

The tortillas were kinda hard to bite through meat was good but for 16.99 I would have liked some sides. They were super busy with people waiting everywhere including outside. They told the people ahead of us it was an hour wait on a Saturday night and very little seating so keep that in mind. Great presentation of asada tacos to go I just had a hard time with the tortillas and that's kinda all you get besides cucumber. Great to see they are successful with so many Togo orders and stay busy. I was just a bit over and underwhelmed.

Very easy to find located in a small part of the neighborhood we parked on a side street and walked in. We were greeted right away and told to take a table. When we receive the menu, it had no prices on it, and although the menu is somewhat limited, the variety was a good sampling there is something for everyone. I ordered the QuesoBirria tacos and my eating companion, had a cheeseburger and fries. They delivered a basket of fried potatoes slices that were a little slice of heaven before our meal. The restaurant was busy. Every table was full, and people kept streaming into the restaurant to pick up to go orders. A food arrived shortly after we ordered it. The cheeseburger was handmade served with fresh cut onions and tomatoes on a potato type bun with loads of fries the tacos were over the top! They brought out two types of salsa, freshly made a red sauce and a green sauce. My favorite was the green sauce. It was a little bit spicier than the red. The flavor was next level. I took two of these to go home because they were so large. You could definitely share this with someone. I did read all the plaques on the wall in the restaurant. The chef has won awards and lots of newspaper articles were posted about this location. I highly recommend would certainly visit again and by the amount of people that were streaming in most seemed to be regulars I guarantee this place is going to be around for a long time so happy that we visited this spot. It's a pleasure writing a review, especially since the staff were hard-working and we are very attentive.

Directly across the street from University of New Mexico's main entrance, this place is packed when school is in session. This place is huge, but not at first glance. There are little digital screens in the corner where you watch for your order number and a counter in the corner where you go pick up your food. It's not until you go into the next room that you discover there is another "next room," and then another. There is a lot of art on the walls, including several John Wayne pictures. The girl at the counter who took our order was an absolute ray of sunshine--so friendly and sweet. We ordered the green chili cheeseburger with onion rings and the daily special which is the "green pile-up" (beans, hash browns, scrambled egg, and green chili beef). The good came our talented quickly, and was quite yummy. Frontier is an Albuquerque classic. If it old? Yes, but it has a huge faithful following, not including the things of UNM students that pack this giant diner during the school year. It may not be a "must try" for some, but if you want Albuquerque nostalgia, this is your place. Btw--it's pretty darn cheap,!

My parents lived in ABQ for years and always thought that the atmosphere was great, but the food was so-so. However, on this instance, we all thought the food was quite good. Flavorful carne adovada, although it was a bit tough. Red chile sauce was spicy but had great flavor. The green chile sauce was hot and tasty. Posole was also good. The gold margaritas were also good - to anyone complaining about the price - at $14.50, the price is very fair considering the cost of ingredients. If you want a cheap junk margarita that is more sugar than anything else, go somewhere else! Our gripe... The place is huge and has an abundance of great places to seat guests. We had a pretty large group - 7 people celebrating a family reunion of sorts. However, they sat us right next to the bussing station that had noisy carts, dishwashers, and other distractions. It was so loud, it was hard to hear the person across the table. There were at least 10 other tables that they could have seated us at! It seems to me that this area should be used only when the restaurant is completely full. This seems to be a poor management decision rather than the fault of the servers or hosts.
