If complicated is what you're going for, you're in the right place. We got here at 1:15, walked in, and waited for at least 15 mins to get ushered around back and forth about 3 times before being told you need a reservation. Mind you, there were at least 6 or 7 empty tables. So I was like okay, I'll order from the counter and then we can sit. Well, get there to order and find out that the menu "transition" is quite annoying because only half of what they have is available then you go to order something from whatever menu works at the given time and then they say they are out of out of certain ingredients and out of pancakes. Finally get our food and it's mediocre. Overall crap experience and if I'd have known we needed lunch reservations, I would have gone somewhere else.
I have walked past DC Vegan many many times and finally stopped in to try the famous eggplant parm! I did not realize this was not a counter service restaurant but a full service sit-down, but it was mostly casual. I was tempted to try the calamari but the server advised me it was a decent portion so I will return with hungry friends! I stuck with the eggplant parm sandwich with fries. The fries were just okay but the sandwich was everything I wanted it to be! I have no idea how they make their vegan ricotta but I did not miss the dairy. The bread was also perfectly soft with a toasty outside. Service was great and my food came out quick! Def will be back to check out more options and the cheese counter as well!
Homey vegan restaurant in DuPont circle that serves plant-based American fare, desserts, and various drinks. The interior is warm and inviting and casual enough for a coffee and cake rendezvous as well as a full meal with drinks. Service is just as warm and inviting. Staff was helpful and patient with answering questions about the menu. I ordered the fried artichoke sandwich with fries. The artichokes were crispy, tangy and tender. It was stuffed in a toasted sub roll with arugula, tofu and sun dried tomato jam. A lemon aioli was drizzled over the sandwich stuffing. The sandwich had a firm texture and crisp, and very flavorful. Fries were crispy and well seasoned. My companion loved his chili relleno with rice and beans. For dessert we shared a chocolate chip cannoli. It was a powdered sugar cannoli shell filled with a creamy filling and sweet chocolate chips. Will be back!
So while at home, I found a Veegan spot called DC Veegan. They are pretty amazing. They have a lunch menu. They have a happy hour. They have a taco Friday like all the things had some jackfruit Phillies steak as well as a chicken sandwich really really good and they have vegan artisan cheeses as well in the cooler. They also have a cooler that has desserts to switch all our Veegan and when I tell you these desserts look decadent definitely check them out and if you live in DC and you haven't heard about this place head on over when you get a chance
I am not Vegan except for a few lunches a week. But I loved your restaurant! I came down to DC from the NY area to help my daughter who is Vegan. I can't remember his name but he has blondish hair and he was so friendly. He guided me as I ordered take out and reminded me about using the InKind app which saved us some money. The food was absolutely delicious and the Tiramisu tasted just like the non-Vegan version. We will be back and my daughter loves to get food from your place. Please open up more Vegan restaurants, if possible! MarcW

"That's gonna be a no from me, dawg!" The service was very good, even though the faux chicken sandwich patty I ordered was small and didn't merit the $17 price tag. The fries for $2 were plentiful, but it didn't seem to balance out. Unseasoned, unsalted fries. I wish they put the ingredients of the chicken patty. I had no idea what I was biting into. It tasted weird and super dry. It also stunk like a gas leak inside. They kept having to tell customers it's the pizza place downstairs. It was also hot as heck inside. I figured their AC was busted but they actually only switched it on when more customers came in. I selected this restaurant since they participate in the InKind network but I don't intend to return.
Why isn't this place packed every night?! I was lucky enough to sneak in before closing time on a recent trip to DC and was blown away by the service and quality of the food. The chicken Caesar salad was amazing--I would be happy to eat that on a regular basis. On my visit I learned that they sometimes shut down the kitchen early if business is slow, so you should call them to confirm that they are open if you're going close to closing time. Although I didn't partake of them, the desserts looked incredible. Another time, perhaps.
I was in Dupont yesterday, doing apartment hunting. As the day started to wind down, I walked across this beautiful little nook, with folks coming in at opening time for dinner. The staff were kind enough to accommodate me, despite not having a reservation. The seating inside was very clean and reminiscent of an Art Deco era or possibly having a Jazz club feel to it. As a former vegan for one year and growing up with vegetarian parents, I've tried a variety of plant-based foods - I was accompanied by my father on this dinner - we were certainly looking forward to critiquing this place. We ordered a few things off the menu: Bucatini and meatballs, Grilled vegetable bowl, Mocha with oat milk, NY style cheese cake and a chocolate mousse cake. Firstly, the pasta sauce was savory and delicious, very fresh tomatoes, noodles were thick and had the perfect bite, and the meatballs were moist and flavorful. Both the salad, which had come complementary, and the grilled vegetable bowl, were the perfect contrast to the hearty entree. The combination of the earthy eggplant and italian peppers, and the smooth and zesty house vinaigrette, felt like a symphony. It's what other salad places are trying so hard to be. The balance, healthiness and taste of these dishes were so satisfying. It's rare that I don't feel like adding anything more to a dish. The chef has certainly curated these meals to perfection. Moreover, the food came out almost instantaneously and the staff were experienced and attentive. Also, I like trying coffee and desserts, wherever I go. It gives me an equal playing field to compare places. I took these to go - the coffee was one of the best Mocha's I've had - the cakes were also very upscale - a great ending to an ever greater meal. Overall, we left the restaurant feeling rejuvenated and enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend this place to vegans and non-vegans alike, and can't wait to try DC Vegan again soon!
This is one of the better vegan restaurants I've tried for American food! Everything they had emulated their meat cousin very well. From the cauliflower wings, chicken sandwich and meatball sub. Its very filling too, we had this for lunch and was too full to even eat dinner!
very happy with my experience at dc vegan! the atmosphere is very relaxed and wasn't super loud while i was there. there have indoor seating as well as a cute little lifted patio! i did miss the location and walk by it 2-3x before i identified that dc vegan was UP the stairs--definitely something to note before going. the food was a 10/10! i really enjoyed my chicken caesar salad, and the cauliflower wings are divine! i can't even describe how much i enjoyed the carrot cake. it also wasn't difficult to find something that didn't contain any of my allergens, and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu items. if i am ever in dc again, i will definitely be coming back! one of my favorite vegan restaurants for sure.
The food is always fantastic, for brunch, lunch, dinner, and dessert. My favorite things have been the chicken Caesar salad and the cheesecakes, impossible to tell that they're vegan! The holiday catering is also a great option. Such incredible food coming out of a cute interior that looks like a standard deli counter.
I will start by saying I am not vegan but have been to a good selection of vegan restaurants and this is by far the most mediocre. I ordered the calamari and the Buffalo cauliflower. Neither of these were even warm. Calamari was whatever and the cauliflower was fine but I like Buffalo sauce and that is really the only reason. At the table there was also a burrito and French toast, a bowl and pancakes. The burrito was a disaster that both people who ordered it struggled to eat as it immediately falls apart. The pancakes were the only thing that looked like maybe was tasty. Mind you all of this is way over priced like appetizers in the 20 dollar range. Service was also some of the worst, server was rude and irritated from the start and had to ask repeatedly for simple things like forks, and my coffee which took about 20 minutes for some reason. I will say the one vegan at the table does like this spot and comes kinda regularly.

Loved the carrot lox! First timer here, long time vegan. Can't wait to come back and try other things. I live in Maryland so it's kind of a haul getting there but well worth it. I loved the bread. So good. Great coffee as well. read more

I came in on a slow afternoon. The woman in front greeted me right away as I navigated through the menu. I decided to have a seat to check out the scene. It was clean and there were plenty of seats available at the time(which quickly changed once dinner started!) There were so many options, but I was too early for the dinner menu. The staff recommended the calamari and that was amazing! I also got a salad which was super good as well! Ended my meal with some canolis and coffee. Great service and a great seat by the window made for a lovely lunch! I would definitely come back to try some other options, but that calamari will always be apart of my order. read more
Im not vegan but I was in the area looking for some healthy food options and decided to try DC Vegan. I was pleasantly surprised at how good my meal was! The portions were quite large and everything tasted delicious and fresh. The cashier was patient as I decided on what to order and my food came out relatively quickly. I took my food to go but there is room to dine in if you'd like. The restaurant itself is pretty cozy and calm. I will definitely be back to try more of their menu! read more
with a few people recomending this vegan place i wanted to like this place a lot but was pretty disappointed. When we got there there they were only doing Takeout foe their outdoor patio which is a bit of a bumber but understandable. I ordered a jackfruit Philly and when I placed the order he asked if I wanted fries or salad as if it was one or the other and not an additional charge. So a single sandwhich before tip was about $22. 45 minutes later the sandwich was ready. Since it was to go I was waiting near the register the whole time while my wife was outside which made it a long 45 minutes. After sitting down to eat it we were disappointed as well. The fries were pretty airy didn't have the texture or flavor we were hoping for and the Philly was salty as well. The Philly itself wasn't bad but also wasn't too memorable which was disappointing. All in all I was expecting a lot more. read more

I am on a mission to experience every vegan restaurant in DC, and so far this one is vying for the first spot. When I went in, the owner was being interviewed to be featured on a local news program. I started with dessert lol, because I couldn't wait until my food was prepared to get started. The cheesecake was not that good. The best part was the whipped cream. NY Style Cheesecake: C- I'm glad I started with dessert because the rest of my meal completely turned things around and blew me away. Calamari (minus parmesan): exceptional! Squeezed the lemon and did not even need the sauce. Amazing! A+ Fried Artichoke bowl: also exceptional! Nothing needed to be added or taken away. I are every last bit of it. A+ Purchased the Cavi-art (which is not made in-house) and have not tried it yet. So far this is my favorite vegan restaurant in DC. Let's see if anyone can top DC Vegan?? read more

Every time I come here, the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. It feels like a chill hang out spot and the food is always fantastic. I got an oat milk latte with vanilla and it was made just right. I would suggest the King Trumpet calamari as a starter. This dish is fantastic. A nice crunch with the taste of calamari flavor. The desserts are fantastic and we try a new one every time. read more
Amazing vegan food, good portions, great service and lovely location. Loved sitting on the balcony and eating while people watching! Do give the place a try... loved the Bacon and Ginger beer the most.. food was nutritious, filling and fresh. Great job DC Vegan.. keep up the good work. read more

OVERALL: As a non-vegan I was shocked by how delicious the food was. It tasted like the real thing! FOOD: I had the calamari, lemon ricotta pancakes, and bacon. Upstairs I got a cheesecake. The calamari was flavorful and had the right texture. The pancakes were my favorite and filling. The bacon was the only miss for me as they were too salty. And the cheesecake tasted just like regular cheesecake I was shocked. The food was so good! I will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu. SERVICE: the staff was super friendly and helpful. Always attentive and made the experience great. VENUE: there are two levels. The downstairs is newer and is where you have the main dining room and a bar. The upstairs has some seating and an outdoor dining area as well as the bakery with vegan cheese! The decorations were super cute and festive. Dim lighting created a great atmosphere. read more

I took my husband here for Father's Day. We were looking for a vegan restaurant that we hadn't been to before and I came across this one. It's a cute little spot. The environment is kinda hippie-ish. The service was good considering it was a holiday. The food was good when I first got my dish it was cold. However, not only was it remade, the owner came over and apologized and also gave us the delicious Nachos!! Overall, it was a good find and I would go back. I love it! From the drink to the dessert it was a fabulous dining experience. Waiter was really knowledgeable and helpful. They have a new set up on the first floor, the botanical bar, that is very lovely inside and great for dates. There was a strange smell inside that reminded me of my cats veterinarian office. Maybe they use the same cleaning supplies. I loved my drink, photosynthesis, which was gin based. It honestly tasted like a refreshing healthy tea, I couldn't taste the alcohol at all. I actually felt hydrated from it. The night I dined, they had the oyster Rockefeller as a special starter. It has oyster mushrooms and spinach served on toasted bread. Amazing! So delectable. I'm told they serve it for brunch as well. My friend had the eggplant rollatini, which was tasty. I had the tofu Marsala, which was so delicious. So many mushrooms, lots of mashed potatoes. The sauce is not too thick and very complementary to the tofu. They served both entrees with a side of grilled broccoli rabe. The finale was the chocolate mousse cake. I thought it was a bit underwhelming and not a lot of mousse. But a huge portion. Despite my critiques, I think most chocolate cake lovers would enjoy this dessert. read more

Came here for dessert after a meal - split the vegan raspberry cheesecake and hot chocolate with my friend. It's one of my first time patronizing a vegan place. Not quite sure if I would have the cheesecake again as it seems to be mixture of tofu, soy beans, and sugar? Couldn't quite put a finger to it but the service was good and the staff is really nice. The hot chocolate tastes like almond milk but wondering about what other ingredients were used in it to create the milky texture / taste. read more

I went for brunch this morning and it did not disappoint. I had a reservation and was seated right away. We sat upstairs and the vibe was chill. I had the potato skins, buffalo cauliflower, and the meatball sub. I haven't had potato skins in years and these were really good. The buffalo cauliflower was probably some of the best I've had in DC. The meatball sub was so freaking good. I have no idea what the meatballs were made out of but they were so flavorful. Everything was delicious and I was stuffed. I would absolutely repeat my order. My mom had the chickn club and said it was good. She also had cannolis and really enjoyed them. I didn't like the pumpkin cheesecake I had because it wasn't sweet enough. Next time I'll get the cannolis! read more

Came here with a friend that is vegan by choice. It's nice to have a whole menu catered for vegans. The menu is on the higher end, which is expected since it's niche and you're in DC. The ordering process takes place inside, so if you're seated outside, be sure to go in! I ordered a chick'n cutlet club, which definitely left something to be desired. It could be that I'm a chicken lover...but for the price I paid (about $20 after tax and tip), it really tasted like more seasoning could've helped it's case. The veggie bacon was also a thoughtful touch. But for replicating an actual chicken sandwich? The texture was pretty similar to an actual chicken cutlet sandwich which was cool for meat eaters transitioning to vegetarian/vegan. My favorite part wasn't my actual meal, but the DESSERTS! I honestly couldn't tell that my almond and butterbeer flavored macarons were vegan. The whoopie pie also tasted like they used their usual ingredients. Highly recommend the almond macaron if it's offered, the butterbeer one was a little too sweet for my liking (if you have a major sweet tooth, go forth!) If you're a whoopie pie / Oreo cake kind of person, highly recommend the whoopie pie. If I were to go back, I would come again for the desserts. The vegan cheese selection also looked interesting. I metroed and walked here from the Dupont Circle station, but note that there isn't much parking over here. read more

The service was great, attentive but not overwhelming, and the food was delicious. I had the Chesapeake fritters with mashed potatoes and slaw with a strawberry Negroni. Everything was absolutely phenomenal and I would absolutely go back each time I'm in town. I would be prepared to spend some money but it's well worth it. read more
Hearty vegan comfort food! In addition to the lunch deli menu (which changes to a fancy dinner menu after 4pm), there's a large selection of cheese, wine, and dessert. I've been twice back-to-back days and explored some of the dishes on the menu. The king trumpet calamari and the chocolate covered cannoli were my favorites! The restaurant has a friendly vibe with a nice large pitcher of icy cold water to help yourself. Please bus your own table (there are dish bins near the water pitcher). DC Vegan is located on the 2nd floor and you'll need to go up a flight of stairs. Sadly no access for strollers or wheelchairs. There's plenty of indoor seating and small patio tables on the 2nd floor. King Trumpet Calamari (5/5) - The crispy miniature onions rings made of battered fried mushrooms was delicious! Ask for a side of lemon aioli dipping sauce. It pairs better than the default marinara dipping sauce and worth the $0.50 upcharge. Chick'n Cutlet Sandwich (3/5) - I wasn't a big fan of the super meaty sandwich. The thick chick'n cutlet was quite dense and very similar to the chick'n cutlet at PLNT. The bacon had a very meaty flavor. Eggplant Parm (3/5) - While the fried eggplant was tasty with marinara sauce, the sub roll was very doughy and there wasn't enough cashew cream cheese. More cheese and a warm toasted sub roll would have done the trick. The proportion of eggplant to sauce, bread, and cheese was lacking. Warm Focaccia (3/5) - While the bread was topped with a nice coat of seasoning, it was quite dense and not as light and airy as I expected and hoped for. Chocolate covered Cannoli (5/5) - I was a little skeptical to try the cannoli as they are not made in-house and from Vegan Treats in Bethlehem, PA. To my pleasant surprise, I enjoyed the creamy cannoli! While the dishes weren't a home-run and didn't quite hit the mark, I would come back to try other dishes on the dinner menu! read more

Been wanting to come here for a while the last few trips we did to DC. We finally made it!!! They are currently doing construction over that area so it's easy to miss.. The exterior & interior decor/setup is really laid back and clean. We were immediately greeted & seated inside. To order we had to go to the counter where they have a nice small menu of a selection of cheeses, alcohol beverages, wine, and bakery. I ordered the Chick'n Parm with a side salad. The Chick'n parm was very crispy & flavorful along with the juicy salad. For my drink I chose the Pomegranate flavored Sparkling Water which was full of sweetness and flavor. I really enjoyed the ambience , it was a lot of chatter inside but not too noisy! The staff was very friendly. 4 stars because for dine in I was expecting my order to be taken at the table. Overall my experience here was awesome. I accidentally walked into the Thai place next door lol so it's not the first door but the second door that says DC Vegan. There is upstairs, outside and downstairs seating. We sat upstairs. The menu is simple and straightforward. ( it is typically the same except during pride weekend, which they have a limited menu to accommodate the large group celebrating) We sat upstairs. We didn't know that downstairs was the actual " upscale" restaurant and upstairs was more of the causal part of the restaurant. We ordered our food at the counter and picked our seats. I love that the menu tells you what has soy in it. We started with the apps and they were delicious Sooo you gotta get the focaccia bread as in app. When I say delicious it's really tasty. The bread also have garlic and melted. Utter on it to compliment the nut cheese. The Mariana sauce topped it off. This was my dish. The trumpet mushroom calamari was tasty as well. It was coated beautifully and even looked like the real deal. It lacked a little seasoning but tasted good with the sauce. Now the cauliflower wings with the bbq sauce was yum yum. I loved that they used a wing sauce that you would actually put on chicken (vegan of course) Some parts can remind you of boneless chicken but it definitely taste like cauliflower. Which was fine. It was enough sauce on each wing. Tip: Now if you are sitting upstairs near the cheese display I would suggest ordering your apps and get up and order your meals because the meals came out maybe 5 mins after we got our apps. So we felt like we had to rush so that the food doesn't get cold. ( and with vegan food you want to eat it hot trust me ) as always do what you want. Now I ordered the artichoke sandwich. When I bit inside it the artichoke was firm. Now it is one of those foods you have to chew for a while. So I took all the artichoke off and ate it separately. It probably would've been better for me to just order the app of fried artichoke rather than the sandwich. I literally left whole sandwich behind. This was my least favorite. It wasn't my thing. As for the jackfruit Philly my partner said it was cool. There is a ghost kitchen restaurant called MUSH and they use fried mushrooms for their Philly and he preferred that one better. Fast casual vegan food is always a good thing and this place is certainly worth a stop. It's not the best vegan food out there, but it's not trying to be. It's just really good, quick, vegan comfort food in a cute location. We ordered at the counter and the food came out in about 5 mins and it was very good. The Chick'n parm was a bit on the pricy side, but not so bad for DC and quite tasty. If I were local I'd probably stop here once every week or two. read more

Had a solid experience at DC Vegan's Botanical Bar when I went for dinner with some friends. The decor is very interesting, the vibe inside the botanical bar is great, and the service was excellent. The only drawbacks to this meal pertained to some of the entrees. We made a reservation well in advance and were promptly seated when we arrived. We started with the meatballs and were delighted with this offering. The texture was reminiscent of actual meatballs and the walnut, easily detectable, provided tasty flavor and good consistency. Would definitely get these next time. The marinara sauce they were served with was also excellent and came in handy during our meal. Our entrees were brought pretty soon after the appetizer and we were pleasantly surprised by how fast the service was. I ordered the Tofu Marsala. This was served with greens, whipped potatoes (mashed), and the Marsala sauce itself. The tofu itself was bland and lacking in character. If the tofu had been seared and allowed to develop some color, it would have at least been able to gain some flavor there. Unfortunately, this was tofu at its most basic. The mushrooms that came as part of the Marsala sauce somewhat offset the blandness of the dish, but the sauce itself was super mild and had no distinctive flavor; it seemed to serve only as a means of keeping the tofu moist. The greens were also steamed and plated; even salt and pepper would have improved the dish considerably. The excellent hot sauce we got on the side only somewhat redeemed the dish. My friend ordered the Beans and Greens and was similarly disappointed by the total lack of flavor in the dish. The dish reminded me of food one would serve to someone without teeth. There was one mushy texture that was not offset by anything. This dish could really have used some crispy breadcrumbs on top of it to improve its overall quality. The side salad that came with the dish was quite nice, and the vinaigrette was light and delicious. Another friend ordered the Chick'n Piccata, which was a cutlet served with asparagus and whipped potatoes. This dish was good; the cutlet had enough flavor and texture to make it worth being eaten. The fries we ordered on the side were also a highlight; super well cooked and seasoned without sacrificing thickness; some of the best fries I've had in DC. DC Vegan can do a lot more to flavor their dishes and elevate them with simple ingredients that justify the price point. Their cooking is good but a few improvements would go a long way to making this a five star experience. read more

Picked up lunch. So excited to have a vegan spot near the office I was visiting!!! Ordered the hoagie. In hindsight I probably should have gotten one of the mock meat options, but thought that would be too heavy. The hoagie is good-- just not as hearty as I would have hoped, it's all veggies, light on filling protein. The peanut butter cookie, however... HOLY MOLY! #1, huge. #2, decadent. So glad I got it! I guess in the final analysis having a lighter sandwich made eating the cookie possible? LOL Delightful & friendly service. Very patient with questions & making suggestions. It's a nice upstairs space. Clean & warm & inviting. I took my food to go, but waited in a comfy chair. read more
It is so good to find a vegan place that has soy free options. My bf has been trying to eat more vegetarian or vegan as a diet, but so many places only do tofu or impossible meat as the vegan option, which is not soy free.. which he has an allergy to. Enter DC Vegan and their many soy free options. Firstly the interior of the Botanical Bar is beautiful. Everything was served super fast, and we enjoyed the 'Oysters' Rockefeller and the main items we ordered. We got a chocolate budino on the house because it was my bf's birthday and the owner was very nice to offer that to us. My two little issues may be that 1) our food didn't feel warm. It just felt room temp and like it was just a cut and serve for the frittata I got without properly being warmed up And 2) I know it's vegan food but it was a bit pricey for what it was for my frittata. Other than that, the taste, the service, and the ambiance were all perfect. read more

This is the best vegan restaurant in DC!! The food is delicious. We tried the meatball sub, which was the best I've had. My non vegan partner said it was also one of the best she's had too. We also enjoyed the calamari, French toast, and a canoli. I'm eager to go back next time I'm in town! read more
Any expectations I may have had were blown away. Whether it's the gorgeous botanical bar, beautifully garnished cocktails or the food it's hard to go wrong here. I dropped by with my friend for a night cap on a Saturday night. By the time we got there the hustle and bustle of the dining room had died down and we were able to enjoy a cocktail at the bar in a relaxed environment. We ate some of the loaded potatoes (so good) and sipped on our drinks (also so good) which was the perfect way to end the night. No crazy crowds, no one over served and a nice comfortable seat is really all I need (and is also quite difficult to find on a Saturday night!) Can't wait to return to explore more of the menu and order a proper meal here next time! read more

I love the many vegan options in DC, and this restaurant definitely hit the spot! Although the price point was too high for the quality, the food was still very good. I was underwhelmed with the "chocolate dipped" cannoli, which was just a soggy cannoli with chocolate syrup. But the entrees tasted great! We did have to wait quite a while for our table even with a reservation, but it was still a good experience overall. read more
I suppose I'm the minority in that when this place bills itself as a vegan deli, I'm totally used to the vegan part but kind of uncomfortable with the term deli, just on an aesthetic level. And it does look like a deli. On their menu, I steered clear of some of the fake meat things, which don't really appeal to me and tend to be overly processed, so I got the fried artichoke sandwich instead. It was a lovely presentation and the taste was definitely the sort of thing where you take a bite and stop immediately to savor it. The roll was soft, the garnishes tangy, and a piece of some sort of vegan cheese finished things off. I suspect this was the imported Italian vegan cheese, which they have on sale in the deli, which frankly seemed better than the status quo for vegan cheese. Adding a side salad was a good decision for me. They had an interesting beverage selection and pastries available as well. A skeptic could claim rightfully that it was a lot of money for not a lot of protein. But the flavor was convincing. read more

This place continues to be great! Excellent service! Casual atmosphere upstairs and a lovely vibe in the fancier botanical bar. Tried some new things today. The lasagna is super tasty, amazing that it's vegan. My friend liked her chickn piccata and everyone liked the fries and cauliflower wings. I recommend the cannolis for dessert. The chocolate covered cannoli is spot on for a chocolate lover! My friend who got cheese cake said it was bad so we don't recommend that but everything else was great. read more

Hear me out... Even if you are not a vegan or vegetarian, there is no way not to fall in love with this place, its food, and baked goods; it's that good!! It is set as a deli but does not be fooled; the service was impeccable. There were things I could not try due to temporary dietary restrictions, but what we tried, men, oh men. Delicious. I highly recommend the "calamari" made out of mushrooms, 15/10 super crispy yet tender and very well seasoned, accompanied by a homemade marinara sauce together; it was perfection. We enjoyed the cauliflower buffalo wings, which were super churchy, and the sauce was on point, including the ranch. Have a sweet tooth, no worries, I got feedback for you too. Cupcakes, cookies and cream and apple cinnamon, and brownies; yes, yes, and yes! I was happy to know all desserts are free, and they only use soy-based products. Some of the desserts are gluten-free. I cannot wait to return, and I can still taste the cashew ricotta yum. read more
I have only had the best experiences at DC Vegan. This business is owned by two Cleveland natives that moved to DC and opened up a sister restaurant to Cleveland Vegan. They have so much experience in the catering and restaurant industry, and their business is so well run from food coming out quickly to an incredibly friendly staff and front of house. When my mom came into town from Cleveland, it was a no brainer to bring her to DC Vegan to support some fellow Clevelanders. We arrived for dinner Saturday night, and the Botanical Bar downstairs was packed. The upstairs area where DC Vegan is located had plenty of seating for us so we ate there, and were still able to order drinks from the Botanical Bar. My mom enjoyed the Chicken Parm sandwich and I had the Chicken Cutlet Club. My mom was filled with nostalgia as the chicken parm tasted just as she remembered a chicken parm to taste. She enjoyed her meal with a glass of Chardonnay and could not have been happier. My Chicken Club was fantastic. The sandwich bread was soft yet held together. The vegan bacon's taste was spot on and I loved how it was crispy without being too hard or tough. The sauce on that sandwich was a pesto aioli and it was so good I could have used a little more. I really enjoyed how much basil came through. The chicken cutlet was a great texture and I liked that it provided heartiness without too much chicken flavor. Sometimes the faux meats freak me out, and this was a great balance of meaty yet still clearly vegan. I loved my mocktail from Botanical Bar. It was dressed with green sugar crystals. It was light and definitely not just a lame fancy lemonade. Their mocktails are unique and worth the price splurge, which I appreciate as I am laying off the booze. Finally we finished the meal with plate sized cookies sent in from Vegan Treats in Pennsylvania. The chocolate chip cookie was chewy and just like your favorite childhood cookie. The peanut butter cookie was definitely the star of the show. It was so soft with the right balance of sweet and salty. I could eat that cookie all day long!! I loved our DC Vegan experience. It is a treasure to be able to take my mom to dinner and bring her such joy. I also appreciate that the owner came by to check on the tables and truly make everyone feel like they are family. I am already looking to come back and reserve a table at the Botanical Bar. read more
