I had a wonderful experience here! Just a note it is pretty pricey and will come out to about $270 if you do the full tasting menu as one person and a couple of drinks. However, the ambience is just so beautiful inside and the staff is really kind and pretty prompt and I loved my experience sitting at the chef's counter, which takes almost 3 hours for the full experience so many of the dishes were completely delicious, but my favorite by far had to be the gnocchi! Even though the menu is completely vegetarian, it is all great and every dish was very inventive and beautiful!

For an extra $21, these should be double the size (each one is the size of a large coin).

Honestly, the food is delicious. But there's just so little of it. We went for restaurant week so maybe that's the issue... the flavors are complex and the presentation is lovely. But we left so hungry. We saw two other couples who'd dined when we did our for pizza or tacos afterward. The eggplant served with the soba noodle dish was so insanely difficult to cut so that's where things went downhill with the food. The vibe is classy and the space is lovely but it was freezing. It was distractingly cold and they couldn't do anything about it as they said they don't control the AC settings. The service was robotic - no one seemed passionate about the food and when we asked about parts of the dishes being presented their answers were scripted and didn't seem authentic. Not sure I'd go back with other options out there for fancy vegan.

I debated on putting up photos or not because I didn't want to ruin the experience but I chose to because I am still in awe that everything was plant based and amazing! The story behind each "act" (love that they called each course that). We did the 6 course experience and we enjoyed it! We added the arepas at the beginning and we also got a beautiful delicious coconut sherbet! It was a great experience and the space was super casual at a corner spot, but the inside and service were clearly met the Michelin expectation! We will definitely be back.

Great Food, great service! Really expensive. I enjoyed a wonderful dinner. The food was so good perfectly paired with the wine tasting menu.

Definitely one of the all time great high end vegetarian food experiences. Every dish was inventive and incredibly delicious. The cocktails and mocktails were high quality, service was impeccable and the place is wonderfully decorated and in a great location for before and/or after. If you're vegetarian this is a must visit. Simple as. Phenomenal experience all around.

We went to Mita to celebrate my birthday , and it was our first visit. We had the 6-course prix fixe menu, and the all-vegetarian selection was impressive! Some flavors were so unique they even reminded me of meat flavors, which was really surprising and well-executed. A special shoutout to my father-in-law, who is usually a picky eater and not one to try new things--but he actually gave multiple dishes a shot and even liked some! That alone says a lot about how well-crafted the dishes were. On the downside, the restaurant was very loud, and I could barely hear the servers explaining each dish. My family had the same issue, which was disappointing since I love learning about what I'm eating. It would be great if they could find a way to make it a bit easier to hear. Unfortunately, none of us enjoyed the dessert--the flavors just didn't work for us. On a sweeter note, I received a birthday card, and they brought out a cute music box that played Happy Birthday, which was a really thoughtful touch. Overall, Mita offers an impressive vegetarian experience, but the noise level and dessert missed the mark for us.

Mita offered a great dining experience with really creative dishes providing a range of Latin flavors. The dishes truly were art - while I am not one to take photos, there were a few that I could not resist taking a photo of. The tasting menu was moderately priced at 6 courses for $95 and while dishes were smaller portions, it's the right amount of food. Service was great - we appreciated the regular cadence of dishes, stories and descriptions, and warm welcome.

Fantastic experience here! From the moment we came in, the host took our coats and hung them on a coat rack. We were seated on the right side of the restaurant on a Friday night, and by some stroke of luck, nobody sat around us so it was like having our own private area. We loved every dish that came out and the stories behind it. Great care was made with each presentation. Afterwards, the chef came out and shook our hands and took a photo with us. The only thing I didn't like was my drink - the Jamaica mocktail tasted like stale juice.

Service, A+, the staff was very attentive, almost too attentive, but always made sure our water was filled and table was clean. Very sincere and knowledgeable. Some might find it slightly fast, but we enjoyed it. The only issue, not the fault of the service, is our first dish came smoked and something was oozing out of the bottom that left a sap like blob on our table. Not even the waiter could get it out, it glued itself to the top. Ambiance, A++: Like someone else said, the porcelain clay Cookplay tableware was superb and unique! It fit the decor perfectly and was a nice touch. For a Michelin star restaurant however, the food could use more seasoning. The food was unique and rich in variety, very fresh but could have used spices. We went for restaurant week and got the Arepas supplement. Copalera - Came out looking like candy wrapped in edible rice paper. Tasted like a gummy bear coated in Tajin seasoning. Presentation was great but lacked depth. Arepas - Must have, wish the quantity was larger, but the assortment of breads was delicious and we loved the cashew sour cream. Gazapacho - delicious and perfect for a hot day, came out cold and was one of the better seasoned courses. Andes To Kyoto - The main dish was a disappointment. The soba noodles tasted like smoked salt. There is no way this dish was supposed to be this salty. The Bok Choy was rather mild in flavor but well cooked. The Eggplant was decent, but overall the dish needed some TLC. Cosecha De Miaz - They did not hold back on the corn in the desert. This was actually pretty impressive with a corn flavored ice cream and sweet jam. A good way to end the meal.

Reservations were easy to make at this location and we were greeted promptly and politely at the entrance. Once seated we got the full "fine dining" experience. Six courses with four glasses of wine. Suffice to say, we left full and a little tipsy. Each course delivers a unique flavor journey, from literal volcanic mango candy all the way to dessert. Each meal came with a story, individual plates and cutlery, and the history of the chef. This was an excellent experience and well worth the money spent.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Mita!! It's pretty rare to find fine dining establishments that highlight only vegan options and I feel Mita absolutely killed it. We had the 3 course set menu and I wasn't expecting it but I can out of the meal pretty full. We also got the additional arepas which were absolutely delicious. The servers were very attentive and explained the entire menu to us like a journey was really fun and interesting. Its a pretty small restaurant so I would recommend booking reservations ahead of time but highly highly recommend!

I had a fantastic meal here!!! The staff was welcoming, friendly and kind. They ask you to take your coat, normally at restaurants you have to ask if they have a coat check. And they offer you purse hooks for the table! I liked the initiative here! They also have interesting mocktails. Looking at reviews from a year ago I see Mita had the exact same menu, does it not change? They participated in Restaurant Week but I only found out after they posted to Instagram that it was booked solid. I would recommend the restaurant have a bar menu for those that just want to come in and have drinks, then only serve the arepa course for food but make the arepas bigger! Each arepa is made from a different ingredient and about 2 inches in diameter. Looking at my picture, from the left is a ball, then the next one I think was corn, that was the most delicious one! Please make that full size for order! My only critique is when cleaning the table, between EVERY single course, make it quick. I don't want a man hovering over me for an extended period of time, we don't need to be that close. I like a little personal space. The bathroom did not have a hook on the back of the door so I had to hold my purse while using the bathroom, not convenient. For some reason you don't get opentable points when dining here. This was my most expensive meal at $200 per person!

interesting and creative vegetarian representation of latin american food - had an enjoyable meal at the bar recently. they serve a la carte at the bar, vs the prefix or tasting menu in the dining room. the menus shared many of the same dishes, but I was told they would be refreshing them soon to switch things up. cocktails were well made - the garden margarita is earthy and delicious for food - we sampled one of everything. the arepas were the highlight, especially the trio of sauces which were all delicious. second favorite was the soup, a large and hearty portion perfect for cold weather, with chunks of cassava and plantain. the watermelon crudo was interesting, served with a leche de tigre but the end product left me wanting more citrus and spice. the mushroom taco and barley risotto-like dish we didn't care for. service overall was sharp, prefer the slightly more laidback bar to the dining room. would return to take vegetarian/vegan friends for something a little different

How filling/worthwhile is the 4 course menu ($75)?

Is there an outdoor dining option?

As far as I know, there isn't and probably won't be. The sidewalks near there are pretty narrow.

Of the dishes I've had: champurrado (yum, except not securely packaged for delivery); chips & salsa (the salsa did not agree with my tummy); sopes carnitas (pork chunks were more fat than meat); tacos fritos de pollo (super dry despite the salad that's lauered on top -- needs sauce!), and the baleadas, my favourite is the baleadas sencillas (good portion, nice flavour, perfect texture).

Freezing, I walked along 11th street on a Tuesday evening searching for Benito's Place. An old…read morefriend had suggested it but..I couldn't find it. I walked a little back and forth, but.. no. Across the street, I saw another Mexican restaurant on the corner, but it looked closed, or even shut down. Maps told me it should be there. Looking across the street my eyes were drawn to the second floor, and a series of neon lights for a tarot card reader and psychic. Taking this as a sign, I crossed. That's when I found Benito's and realized that it's neon sign was out. Walk too fast and you might miss it. A narrow door aside a bay window lit from inside. It's a small place with a warm, cozy feeling. Benito's is very much a neighborhood Central American restaurant, but FYI: no alcohol. Started with guac and chips, usual fare, delicious but nothing that singled it out. I ordered the Pollo a la Plancha and it was rather good. The chicken was grilled through but not tough, it still had moisture and you could cut it. Rice, greens, etc. and the small 2oz solo of black beans, all standard fare. The corn tortillas were interesting, not your usual thin tortillas, so it took my mind a moment to consider what I was holding. It had the thickness of a pancake, maybe a sope base, and reminded me of thick, handmade tortillas when you don't have the press. Curiously, the tortillas were not the same that my friend got with his Mole Poblano, which were thin. Granted, it was a cold Tuesday evening, but in two hours only two other individuals came in to eat. Seems like they do brisk take away business. I expect on a warmer night with higher foot traffic this place fills up quickly. The service was great, did not want for anything. We were served with two containers of sauce, green and orange. Ostensibly green chili, and habanero, I did not learn specifically however. When I dine in DC I can't help but confront the blunt question: Was it worth it? Yeah, it's good food, good people, and a good place. You'll feel comfortable there and leave full. But the price of dining out is too damn high, and this meal is on the higher side of what, ten years ago, would have been $15. I fear that prices will continue to be pushed higher and places like Benito's might disappear, so get over there because the food excellent, the people are nice, and it's just a warm space to hang out for an hour or so talking to an old friend.

This is a must visit when in DC…read more I enjoyed this place so much that I dined here back to back with two different groups and both raved about the octopus. We came during happy hour from 4-7 PM, which only applies to alcoholic beverages. The cocktails were excellent and definitely worth ordering. Service was a bit inconsistent, as our first visit had better timing and attentiveness, but both servers were pleasant. Each table was also given a dish of corn nuts to snack on while waiting for food. *Pinazo: the lightest cocktail I tried. The pineapple flavor came through clearly even though the puree was not visible. It was very fragrant, though I could not detect the amarena cherry. The fruit largely masked the vodka. *Lychee Pisco: the lychee puree itself was mild, with most of the flavor coming from the fruit garnish. The elderflower and hibiscus notes were more prominent. As someone who enjoys floral profiles, I liked this, though others may find it more perfumed than expected. *Guapo's Pisco: the passionfruit was again on the milder side, while the ginger beer stood out more. Served in a metal mug, it drank like a sweeter Moscow Mule. *Passion Pisco Sour: the pisco sours had more distinct and vibrant flavors overall, and I would highly recommend them if you enjoy fruit forward drinks with an egg white finish. There is also a flight option, which I would have ordered if not for happy hour. This one was my favorite, with a well balanced mix of tartness and sweetness. *Chicha Sour: more tart than the passion version, with a warmer, spiced undertone. The cinnamon added a subtle smokiness, though it still leaned sweeter than expected. *Ceviche Sampler: includes tradicional, cremoso, and callejero. A great way to try a range of flavors, and everyone in my group had a different favorite. I would recommend asking for crispy plantains, as they were not automatically included and help carry the seafood. The tradicional leaned heavily on acidity, allowing the fish to shine, though it felt a bit one note. The sweet potato helped balance it. The callejero was my favorite, with a noticeable kick in the leche de tigre. The cancha and choclo added nuttiness, earthiness, and crunch. The cremoso sat in between, with more body and a slightly sweeter, richer profile thanks to the sweet potato. My only complaint was that the fish pieces were cut quite large, so we had to break them down further. *Causa Sampler: another trio featuring crocante, tartare, and pollo. These were heavier despite the smaller portions. The whipped potato base was well seasoned and had more structure than typical mashed potatoes. The crocante featured a large fried shrimp with rocoto aioli, though I would have preferred the sauce on the side. The flavor leaned like a standard spicy mayo. The tuna tartare had a Japanese influence, but the aioli was overly sweet, making the dish feel cloying. A thicker layer of avocado could have helped balance it. The wonton crisp was also missing both times I ordered it. The chicken version was the most mild and rustic, and needed more acidity or spice to bring it together. Despite this, the trio had potential with some adjustments. *Plancha Pulpo: a must order. This featured a large grilled octopus leg served with causa and choclo on a sizzling plate. The octopus had a smoky char and garlicky chimichurri, with a perfect balance of tenderness and chew. It rivaled a well cooked steak and was easily the standout dish. *Lomo Saltado: medium rare tenderloin stir fried with onions and peppers. The savory sweet sauce coated the fries, rice, and meat beautifully. The flavor leaned slightly Asian, and the beef was juicy and tender. The vegetables were soft and naturally sweet. *Pionono: fried sponge cake filled with Nutella and dulce de leche. It was quite sweet, but the coffee chip ice cream added a deep, rich contrast. The ice cream alone was standout quality. This dessert is easily shareable among four. *Flan: a classic base topped with grilled pineapple and quinoa tuille. The flan itself was smooth and creamy, though the pineapple's acidity distracted from it. It would have benefited from more caramelization. The quinoa tuille added texture more than flavor. *Suspiro: a polarizing dessert, but one I personally enjoyed. The manjar blanco was extremely rich and sweet, paired with an equally sugary meringue. I would have liked more texture or a torched finish for contrast. The passionfruit glaze was my favorite element, though it was used sparingly and could have helped balance the dish more if incorporated throughout. Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar deserves its praise. The portions are generous, and the flavors are thoughtfully composed. While there are small tweaks I would make, the overall execution stands out and feels a step above many other options in DC.

I enjoyed my drink though. - we were recommended by our waiter to get around 4-6 dishes depending on how hungry we were. We opted for 7R ceviche, cheese arepitas, Latin falafel, and seafood jalea. I will say everything tasted so freaking good (with the exception of the falafel because they were on the drier side) but those portion sizes i would expect a little more for pricing - I will also add a side note they were providing sampling of a pumpkin soup. Did j like it? No. Did i appreciate it the ability to say i tasted it and didn't have to pay for it? Yes - we also were greedy and went in for desserts: banana bomb and chocolate and Ron.
