I'm a consistent fan of pow pow! It's such a treat for vegans --fast casual food options inclusive of many different veggies. I typically get the chickn fingers and I like all three sauces--the firecracker being my favorite. They are very crispy and texture is very similar to meat. I've had some of the bowls, like General tso, but I don't particularly like their rice, so I always opt for salad instead. The Dan Dan carbonara is scrumptious. The cashew base sauce is creamy but not too heavy and the plant based pork meat is a nice complement. I also enjoy sides like the brussel sprouts, broccoli and trolley fries. The fried cauliflower has a bit too much breading for me. They have great happy hour deals and food comes out relatively fast. Staff are always friendly!

I'm not vegan or vegetarian but wanted to try this plant based Asian fusion spot. The food was solid, great options but felt a little heavy. Food took a little while to come out because there weren't many workers but I don't blame them. Would come again.

One of the challenges in vegan cuisine is finding great alternatives and substitutes for former meat based favorites, particularly sushi. Pow pow had a sushi pop up with a curated menu and in house chef rolling each roll fresh. The vegan options extend beyond just sushi with Asian fusion flavored entrees including chck'n proteins, tofu, veggie stir fry's, and soups. The staff is very friendly and seemingly on a first name basis with the regular patrons. The interior is pretty quaint with a mix of bar height seating and a few tables at booths. I look forward to text and email announcements of specials and pop ups they are hosting.

most decadent meal i've ever had! I got the angry noodles and they were so tasty and creamy and made me angry that I can't eat them every single day. amazing spot for a super delicious vegan meal

The grilled vegan shrimp with fried rice was pretty good. However, it would have been great if it included more shrimp. It only came with 3-pieces of shrimp with a small drizzle of mayo sauce, that was served in a pint sized container. Besides that, the customer service was great and I would definitely visit again to try out their other specialties.

This is the POW POW location I prefer. I remember getting the trolley fries from here long ago during Covid times and being blown away. Then I went to the other location (Franklin Square) and was underwhelmed by the lack of flavor, laziness and just dousing of Gochujang on it. Anyway back to this review. I got: -The *New* Dumplings Kare Kare which were steamed dumplings in a peanut coconut stew. It was very flavorful, creamy, and delightful. Just loved it. -The *New* chef special Hoisin steak carbonara which was pretty awesome. I am surprised with the texture of the steak made from mushroom root- it was very nice and meaty although I don't know what real meat to compare it to because it was unique on its own. It was mushroom meat! The carbonara pasta could have used some salt but I enjoyed it. It had a nice creamy flavor. -The Chimi Chimi pow pow: the egg roll stuffed with banana and dairy free Nutella with an agave honey dip. How good can an eggroll be? No big deal right? Omg this dessert blew me away. All in all the food here was just fantastic. I will come back to this location for sure!

Plant-based takes on my favorite childhood AND drunk college favorites? Sign. Me. Up. Pow Pow is my life embodied in a single restaurant, with all of the indulgent, delicious Asian guilty pleasures that were forced out of my diet when I became a pescatarian. Whether it's orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, and a good ol' teriyaki stir fry, Pow Pow has you covered with its delicious array of vegan bowls. They're also super accommodating of other dietary restrictions, with a separate GF menu (or you can make any of their other bowls GF with a few substitutions). It's genuinely impossible to go wrong with a single item on their menu, but a few favorites are: - Tokyo Roboto: perfectly balanced teriyaki sauce with a touch of bright acidity from the grilled pineapple...absolutely chef's kiss. - K-Town BBQ: maybe I'm just a sucker for pineapple because the pineapple kimchi really binds this whole dish together...the sesame drizzle on top of the Korean BBQ-flavored "chicken" also kicks this bowl up a notch - Sticky Sesame: if I'm feeling something a bit more indulgent, this is the perfect go-to -- the "chicken" is fried to perfection, and the sauce is perfectly sticky and sesame-y - Trolley Fries: my favorite when I'm feeling ~especially~ indulgent. The flurry of sauces / toppings (kimchi, Korean ketchup, togarashi mayo, cashew cheddar) gives these perfectly crispy fries all the flavor in the world. The slivered scallions add just a touch of green to help you pretend you're being healthy, and you can also top this bundle of wonders with a protein of choice - Thai Pumpkin Soup: I'm 99% sure this is just a seasonal item for the fall / winter, but it is fantastic, and I'm going to need this on the full-time menu ASAP. It has a rich pumpkin flavor made luxurious by the coconut milk and delightfully comforting with a touch of heat by all the spices Beyond the absolutely PHENOMENAL food, everything about Pow Pow sparks joy -- from the utilitarian, but upbeat atmosphere with A+ music selection, to the quick and friendly service, every element of Pow Pow's dining experience was well thought-out and expertly executed. You can order at one of two kiosks (great if you're feeling antisocial and / or just want to spend some extra time staring at the menu), and then take your pick of a table or barstool if you'd like to watch passerby while waiting for your name to be called. All in all, Pow Pow has solidified its spot as one of my go-to D.C. spots -- while the H Street location will always have a special place in my heart as our OG, I'm so excited that we also have the Franklin Park location!

Pow Pow is a super cute Vegan restaurant that we stumbled across while at the Marriott Marquis. Although maps says its a bit away, it was a perfect quick walk around town to get there. Once you arrive, everything is automated, which makes it easy to order - if you know what you want. We were definitely a bit confused because the whole menu isn't available for lunch - but we didn't know. The other oddity is that you have to get any beverages at the counter, so we had to wait / pay twice. But, the food is excellent - I ended up with the firecracker bowl and it was not super spicy yet still full of flavor. I would have loved a bit more veggies to mix in, but overall it was a nice filling meal that didn't feel overly heavy.

10/10 recommend. First off, this place is CLEAN. It's extremely refreshing to not feel ick about sitting in a public setting. The service was up to par. The chefs are even friendly. The guy at the counter was my favorite. We had convo and he gave me some awesome recommendations and boy was he on the money with those recs! Not one dish disappointed me. Even if you aren't vegan, you can get anything here and leave feeling full and satisfied. My favorite was the vegan carbonara. Whoever is the culinary genius behind that dish, kudos to you! The flavors were there and it didn't make me miss the dairy version at all. I will be back and hopefully make this place my go-to. I just want to order everything off of the menu but run y'all, don't walk!

I've have eaten at a vegan or vegetarian place near Howard U some time ago and realized I can't tolerate soy base products; makes me sick, after a long time using soy milk for cereal. Are the foods at Pow Pow a lot of soy based (meat substitute)?

The meat substitutes are soy-based but I believe you can remove some of the soy-based ingredients in their bowls. They might have some soy-free sides too!

What happened to the Natalie Porkman? That was my favorite!!

It’s still on the menu and is one of our best sellers. If you are viewing online ordering menus it may be removed when we are out of it. But it’s still there. Thanks for asking.

Are the sauces actually cold? I don't want to order cold food...

Yes they are. And I was told they will not warm them.

After so many great reviews, we tried it while in DC and are glad others had a better experience than we did. This Jewish-owned kosher burger joint was a refreshing treat from any franchise place we refuse to eat at while on vacation. This place is small and not great for big parties from what I could tell. Mostly four-top and two-top tables. We sat at the bar so we could sit immediately, and that's where our experience started. I can't prove it, but I feel like the bartender either got called into work or isn't used to bartending under the pressure of a full house. He had zero interest in serving us and felt like every request was like asking a middle schooler. He had to clear some papers for us to sit, and that was clearly very inconvenient for him. SOMEWHAT in his defense, it was very busy, and he was filling orders the whole visit but could have at least said "bear with me," and we would have extended all the empathy in the world. We ended up ordering two burgers since that's what we were there for. The Hickory burger was cooked well on a brioche bun and included brisket on top. The brisket was a bit greasy, but the burger was cooked great and overall was great! We also ordered a California burger that had avocado (I believe) and a house-made (I think) Thousand Island. Fries were typical and fine, but we weren't even offered dessert. At the end of the day, I can understand people have bad days, and I know Char Bar has more great reviews than bad ones, but I'll skip it next time in DC and go the extra block to Founding Fathers.

Our experience by far exceeded our expectations. My wife and I came here for a young adult special opening event last Thursday. The staff was all very friendly and was willing to bring drinks to the booth since I have a cane, but my wife helped with that. Unfortunately, the place does not appear wheelchair accessible with a flight of stairs to get down. The food and drinks were all amazing. In fact my wife says it is some of the best quality sushi fish she has had and I agree it is among the best. The prices are not bad for the location, quality, and ambiance although we prepaid $50 a person for a sushi buffet they set up on the side tables (that I suppose they will use chairs for couples at) with an open bar which would have costed a lot more for us usually. Two or three of the dishes that contained beef tasted off, almost as if the meat was old or not in good condition. Since we were sharing the dishes among four adults, the plates were already finished by the time everyone tried them. Even my cousin who doesn't normally like falafel or hummus likes both of these things here. She said the falafel is cooked just right, being crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I agree!
