Food excellent. I always find it annoying when a tip is requested at a place where you stand at a counter to get your food and then you place your dirty items in bins yourself.

Efficient spot for a quick lunch. I ordered ahead and went in for pick up. You cant go wrong with the bulgogi meat. I was in the mood for noodle soups, so i went for the yam noodles. I didnt get to read the nutrition info on the noodles, but i was hoping they are low carbs:0. They were delicious, so it was worth it. For under $10, this is definitely a great lunch spot. All the toppings are fresh and have varieties.

I was expecting more from the high ratings at different location. Food was okay but service was poor. Would not recommend this location.

Best of all, there are mini donuts that are 1/2 of the size of the regular donuts (they have both!). The Classic flavors, mostly cake donuts are in the back while the seasonal yeast donuts and specialty pastries (croissant donut hybrids) are in the display case in the front. The issue is that while the donuts in the front are neatly labeled, the labels are teeny-tiny for the donuts in the back and impossible to read. I wish the labels were larger and there was a large menu for the full list of donuts (instead of the small chalkboard for just seasonal donuts). The super fluffy and moist cake Cider Cake Glazed hit the spot! Even though I prefer warm cider cake donuts, I didn't mind that it was room temperature. I couldn't resist the temptation to save the donut for the kids and noshed on the full donut not even leaving a crumb to spare! Nom nom nom. The seasonal (Sept & March) Brown Sugar Bourbon donut was fun to try. It was topped with delicious maple cinnamon frosting with a custard filling. While I couldn't taste the Bourbon flavor, the donut was tasty. The Mocha Donut filled with Mocha buttercream hit the spot! The seasonal (March) Matcha Latte cake Donut was divine! The seasonal (Oct) Caramel Apple Crumble Donut hit the spot with a maple salted caramel frosting and apple pie filling. I wasn't a fan of the Salted Caramel Cider or the Chocolate Cake donuts. They were a bit dry and after a couple of bites, I threw in the towel on both donuts. I also didn't like the Hazelnut cream donut (not a Nutella or ganache frosting that I expected). The Matcha donut filled with strawberry cream (April special) wasn't that good, the cream was way too sweet. Will come back for the Glazed Cider and seasonal donuts!

The owner should look up the law because she's way out of compliance: https://code.dccouncil.gov/us/dc/council/laws/23-187), but charge a 3% fee if you pay by credit card, which you are required to. They basically give you no option to avoid paying a fee. (In response to the owner's response below: They have a sign that says NO CASH, so is a customer supposed to believe they'll accept cash IF the customer has exact change, as the owner says they will? And if they do accept that cash, then they would, in fact, have cash on hand anyway, which undercuts her claim they have no cash on hand...but they don't because they have a sign that says NO CASH. Every other business in the community doesn't blame the city for their own non-compliant policies, as the owner does, and accepts cash in the same circumstances. Plenty of places are happy to take cash and prefer it, and it is required by DC law. I was surprised to see this NO CASH sign after emailing with the owner about it *a year and a half ago.* I walked right out when I saw the sign.) They also now have a self-serve bar which invites the spread of things like norovirus. There are no sneeze guards. They make it hard for me to support them even though I really have been trying to for years.

I stopped by the food court here with an elementary school class of 3rd graders to have lunch. They brought sack lunches and I wanted to order something from the counter at the restaurant. No sooner had I sat down with six children than I was approached by a small man on the staff who told me to go elsewhere. Mind you, all the tables were empty and I hadn't even ordered yet. Instead of asking me if there was anything he could get me, he led the conversation with "go elsewhere". Yes, this inconsiderate man told FIVE CHILDREN to get up and go elsewhere to eat. I was shocked and repulsed at his behavior. Rude, unnecessarily curt and left me truly at a loss for what passes for courtesy any longer. Two big thumbs way, way DOWN.

My friend got a packaged gluten free chocolate brownie. The place was big and bright but there were a lot dirty tables. There is a large section for staff. It seemed disproportionate. I loved the murals in the walls. The salad buffet looked good- I'd try it in the future. The coffee and sweet section was closed. But there were coffee and sweet options at the buffet.

Parking for me was pretty easy as I found street parking right in front of the restaurant, my cousin parked in the garage. This matchbox is pretty big and it was decorated really nice. We were seated immediately for lunch and our server assisted us with the lunch options. I chose the mushroom pizza and soup. And my cousin had apple pear and soup of the day. For the $14.99 price it was worth it we had pizza left to take home. Pizza * Margherita * Pepperoni & Hot Honey * Fig & Prosciutto * Truffle + Wild Mushroom * Chicken Pesto Salad * Simple Salad * Caesar Salad * Apple Pear Salad Soup * Cream of Crab Soup * Soup of the Day

The atmosphere was lively during a weekday lunch. They also had WiFi available. They have a $15 lunch special where you can get a small personal pizza and a cup of soup or side salad. I ordered the grilled chicken and avocado sandwich ($19) which comes with a side of fries and a pickle spear. It was just okay. They serve shoestring fries - just like McDonalds, but not as golden and not as crispy. The sandwich had good structure and was filling, but the chicken was bland and dry. I could've used some more sauce. I think I'm used to Nando's chicken which is moister and full of saucy flavor. Other people at the table ordered the fish and chips ($24) which looked good - it came with two large, meaty pieces of cod and the same shoestring fries. Also on the menu - Matchbox now serves sushi! Service was sufficient but a little absentminded, particularly for drinks. Some people never got their water (I think she forgot) and drinks were never refilled - cups were empty. We were checked on a couple of times, but drink service was often overlooked. Food trickled out for our group. It came in about three waves. It was a reasonable wait (nothing offensively long), but it's always nice when the food comes out at the same time, or when some verbal acknowledgement is given to say that everyone's food would be out shortly. I would say food and service were average overall.

The decor is perfect and I love that they've added plants to cover the staircase. Drinks were delicious and the food came out quickly. Our water glasses were rarely empty. Service was kind. Food wise if I were to stack rank I would say the hummus is the best of what we ordered. The pita bread is thick and garlicky and oily and massive. The croquettes would be at the bottom of my list simply because they're dissimilar from any I've had before and a little bit underwhelming. The tuna was fresh but it's a small dish and not much to write home about. The lamb skewers have a subtle kick to them and they're pretty substantial. I'll definitely be back to try more! Highly recommend on a warm summer day as you're covered by the canopy above, if you're looking for a rooftop vibe.
