On a warm day after work, a colleague and I when to the rooftop for a couple drinks. The bartender was nice and professional. They had just switched over to happy hour but the pricing buttons weren't working...so we were told that if we ordered a happy hour drink, it would be regular priced. (I was confused why he couldn't give me the drink and ring it up when the pricing button was fixed.) But luckily, once he poured the drinks and tried again, it worked. Overall, the experience at Hive Bar was great! The view from the rooftop--the rooftop space is wonderful on a gorgeously warm day! One warning though, the elevator to get to the rooftop is VERY small. Max of 4 people. Being a part of a hotel, you may wait some amount of time to catch the elevator. read more

While the weather didn't cooperate with me during this trip - sure it would be a hit in warmer/drier conditions so that the plastic didn't have to be out and we didn't have to huddle under the smallish roof footprint. Since we were staying at Hotel Hive already, we decided to check out the bars. There's one in the lobby and rooftop, which was cool. While the rooftop doesn't have much of a view, it was still nice to enjoy on a nice day. The drinks came in a metal cup though, which was tiny and almost too cold to drink out off. The bar downstairs had a slightly differently menu, which had some more variety. Plus, the drinks were served in actual glassware. I enjoyed both the Old Fashioned ($12) and Spicy Mango Margarita ($11). We also ordered the Maverick Pizza from &pizza. Overall everything was pretty solid and glad we conveniently had this in our hotel. If we weren't staying here, we wouldn't go out of the way to come though. read more

Now the pizza might have been terrific if we hadn't just done 20k steps around DC but I'm fairly certain the pizza is terrific no matter what. Our table had three different kinds of pizza, garlic knots, and then Cinnamon knots/nutella knots. Everything was delicious and serving sizes are more than enough for one and perfect to share. The Pilsner beer was great and the ladies had two different drinks that made them quite happy. Service was outstanding as well. read more

Found this place on a random search and decided to check it out because it was super close to an event we were venturing to and I saw they sold &Pizza. Who doesn't love &Pizza?! Walked into this cute hotel bar and sat at the bar we were greeted and ordered some drinks. I loved this place! The only downside is they don't have a full bar so drinks are limited to pretty much what you see on the menu I shared. el Jimador isn't my tequila of preference but blanco is typically a little too harsh for me. I had my tequila served neat because this place was too classy for shots lol. Very cool and chill vibe. For this to be &Pizza and it to be relativley empty it did take longer than expected for our pies to come. However, once arrived they were everything I could hope for. I got the Maverick (my go to as a creature of habit) and Bae got the Chicken Bacon Ranch (I stole a piece of his like any good girlfriend would). Both were good, but I am not a fan of onions on pizza so i picked them off :). read more

Stopped on our way to the motel just to get a coffee. Above average spot compared to other places around it. Cool. Service was decent and bar was pretty comfortable. Espresso was necessary and hit the spot after a flight and train ride. I want to check out the rooftop when conditions warrant. Maybe next time in DC. read more

Nice rooftop bar with views of the surrounding streets. When we went, it wasn't too busy so we had no trouble finding a table. It felt like a peaceful escape from the busyness of the city below. The hotel interior is cute and we had no trouble at all finding our way up to the roof. I just wish the drink selection up top had been more extensive--we were expecting a bit more variety on the beer list, but I guess that was just for the main bar in the lobby. read more

I liked this bar - it's a relaxing ambience and there's a fireplace too, which is nice if you're able to sit close to it on cold days and nights. Yes, there's also a rooftop but it's closed during the winter season. There's also a back patio space by &pizza with heating lamps (although this may not exactly be a part of the bar). But being inside was good - easy to get the attention of the bartender, and good liquors (Don Ciccio is even offered here). And their happy hour is a steal - cutting most regular drink prices by half. The drinks are only as good as the bartenders though and I've had a bartender that wasn't very good at mixing the drinks (one drink came out too sour and another came out too sweet). Despite this, my bartender was patient and friendly - and I'm sure if I had pointed this out, he would have remade the drink. For the last reason, I'd suggest this place only for those who are frequently in the neighborhood so they know who and what bartenders to order from. There's limited &pizza options (curated) in the bar menu but you're allowed to order from &pizza directly as well if you're wanting different options. read more

The Hive bar used to serve real drinks. Now the only cocktails they offer are canned. Revolting...also there are no lemons or limes to cut the nasty taste. Maybe this a Covid 'innovation' that has hung around too long? I've spent years going to Hive for work social events (with breaks when I'm overseas), but I'll be hard pressed to return. read more

Found this gem within the Hive Bar, &pizza is nestled in a very hip part near GWU. This is one of the few times I've seen pizza in this style. Very shareable and love to the American Honey's sweet and savory pairing. The Maverick's basil adds a nice touch to the rest of the pizza. Overall very delicious and quick service. read more

Rooftop bar at the Hive Hotel with plenty of seating on a cool Saturday night. Was able to secure one of the tables with the fire-pit center for the two of us. Bar is located near the center where they serve drinks and some food from the pizza place downstairs. Decided on a draft beer ($8) and split the Simple Pie Pizza ($11). Draft beer is handed over quickly, had ordered the IPA but was given a Hefeweizen which was pretty good. Food took half an hour to get upstairs, resulting in a slightly-warm pizza. Overall basic pizza with cheese and sauce, could have used some chili flakes for a kick. Views here are not bad depending on where you sit. Fine enough spot to relax for the night if not crowded. read more

A bar that also has &pizza? Genius. First off, these drinks were really well made and unique tasting. You would think they would charge an arm and a leg, but no; super affordable drinks at about $10. I've gotten used to the bars in D.C. charging $15 and higher and I'm quite frankly sick of it. The bartenders that night were charming in a really dorky way. Super fun vibe! You are also able to order pizza from downstairs to be brought up but that process took a while for people, so might be better off going yourself. THIS PLACE ROX!!!!!! Was in DC for a conference and had yelped "bars" while visiting the memorials and this was the second option (I salute you fellow yelpers for your quality taste). Walked into the "hotel" and this bar area was on my immediate right. The drink menu was concise and there isn't any foods (that I saw) besides flatread pizzas. But after doing both... you didn't need anything else. I started off with the GBL drink which was potentially one of the best drinks I've ever had (I KNOW, DRAMATIC), but it was so delicious, and actually contained alcohol. I don't know if they have it all the time, but essentially it was a vodka based drink with some strawberry lemonade type mixer added and mint. It wasn't too sweet whatsoever - did cost $12, but what do you expect around here? I then chased this with a delicious Gin drink that was on their signature cocktails, and three of us then split two flatbreads. For flatbreads we got the Gnarlic (garlic ricotto - may I say more), and moonstruck which was mushroom based with a FIG BALSAMIC. I'm not a huge pizza person and was meh regarding the fact that they only offered pizza at that time, but thank goodness that was the scenario. Because the pizzas were just fantastic. I will say that two pizzas split between three of us, left us still a bit hungry, and we got one more appetizer elsewhere, but be sure to grab at least one to eat for yourself or friends. I'll end with 1. COME HERE and 2. Hive appears fairly classy, but I did not feel out of place with jeans and a sweater on. read more

Rooftop bar has a great view that catches a welcome breeze on days where it might be too hot to sit outside at street level. Otherwise, it's very disappointing. Drinks are small and overpriced, with a poor selection to choose from. Would only recommend based on location if you needed an outdoor happy hour in that part of town. read more

The drinks are, to be quite frank, subpar and, hence, overpriced. The selection is limited, servings are small, and garnishes missing. I had the worst gin and tonic of my entire life here, which tasted life iced water with a just the smallest splash of gin--and without any lime. Updating my review to say I was here for my birthday last month with a few friends and the staff was super sweet and made me feel really appreciated! They didn't have actual candles, but I laughed as they brought out the dessert Lori Lane pizza with the restaurant table candles and let me blow those out. Also, the rooftop is amazing. While they don't allow food up there, it's such a chill environment with plenty of space. Great for hanging out with one or even 20 friends. Just a great location, with the Lincoln memorial in one direction, the White House in another, and turn your head to the right and there is the Watergate Hotel. Reagan airport is less than a 10 minute drive. We sipped on Proseco, and enjoyed the night. The over head lighting is adjustable to the full color spectrum, allowing management to tweak the mood. 10/10 every time I go to DC I stay at the Hive. I am sure the bar and the pizza there is great for anyone that's local. But for me this is a great little getaway and one of my favorite spots in the city. The staff is super friendly, and they are always willing to help you out as long as you smile and you're nice. No way, frosé!! I've never had a frosé before so I was really confused when I heard the term. At first I thought it was probably just another overpriced drink trend because millennials will buy anything that looks pretty (coming from a millennial LOL), so I was fairly skeptical. My boyfriend and I got a frosé and frozen margarita to share. I wasn't expecting the margarita to be super great since I'm used to the margs in Texas, but it was SO good. I felt like I was back at home again-- all I was missing were the chips and queso! The frosé also exceeded my expectations! A perfect contrast to the marg (which was tangy with a slight punch) as it was smooth and sweet. You'll want more than one! The rooftop itself is gorgeous. The weather was perfect when we went and it wasn't crowded. It's well decorated and has a nice view of the surrounding area. The rooftop has a limited food menu and you can only get the frozen drinks here (not downstairs at the bar). Aside from those, they also have some cocktails on the menu and I recommend the P.A.H.O punch. This was a great place to relax at after a long day of walking around. This is a nice place to hangout with your friends and eat a good pizza! They also have a rooftop bar which is perfect for warm weather. Unfortunately we got there when the breeze is freezing. But to be fair they have heater vents installed to keep people kinda warm. So I sugest you move closer to the middle area of the bar so its farther from where the breeze are coming. The pizza we ordered is so good. For a starving person like me $11 pizza is a good deal! Me and my husband ordered their pepperoni & gnarlic pizza. Both of us got half of each and we got full. The view is nice from the top too. The staff are approachable too. Btw we waited for almost 10mins to get our gnarlic pizza but the pepperoni we got it in a snap. Haha read more

Pizza & drinks get all the fanfare here, but this is an homage to their simple, yet eclectic breakfast offerings. For a little splurge I copped a latte & kolaches ($5ish) The coffee drinks here are no frills--no flavors, just the simple good stuff. Drinks are served from the bar, but the bfast items are over at the & pizza side. Kolaches are"baked with by Republic Kolache." Awwww! Anywho. They look like round, browned potato dinner rolls with mysteries inside. Well all of them except the strawberry, which comes with the topping precisely on Top of the bun, and has rounded edges and exposed sides. The bun itself taste almost exactly like a toasted Hawaiian roll. Which is why, for me, I preferred the savory option I purchased: chorizo, Bc it provided a balance of sweet/savory. TBH the inside of the chorizo was a literal mashup of sausage, soft scrambled eggs & cheese. Nice flavoring, limited filling. The strawberry was more like a jam than a glaze, so don't think 'donut.' & it had a hint of cream cheese somewhere inside but it was such a tease. It was a nice treat. I suggest you stick to savory kolaches. The saag might be cool to try next: it has Indian spices and veggies. read more

Buzzed in here to meet a friend for happy hour and pretty much stayed until close, haha. Oops. Drinks were well made. Happy hour margarita was yummy. Cucumber vodka soda was a lil too sweet for my liking, so I went back to margs. Distillers are local. Service was fine. And when it got to be 9pm and we realized we hadn't eaten any dinner yet, there is a pizza place conveniently located adjacent. The pizza was delicious and customizable and cheesy and spicy and hot and made to order and everything we wanted post-drinks. This place is a bit confusing. It's located in the Hive Hotel, and adjacent to the hotel/bar is &pizza. All I wanted was to eat pizza and drink frose on the rooftop. That combination is a no-go. You cannot bring drinks to &pizza, but you can bring the pizza to the first floor bar, but only if you plan on ordering a drink. Alternatively, you can get a table at the first floor bar and order &pizza and drinks from there. The rooftop bar however, is pretty much a separate entity. You cannot bring drinks from the first floor OR pizza up to the rooftop. The rooftop bar serves the frose and another frozen drink (margarita?) and maybe other drinks. Caveat: you can't order frose on the first floor bar. This was incredibly confusing and a bit annoying to learn. They're also pretty serious about checking IDs, which in general is a good thing, except that they took a long time to check my friend's Colorado ID. Apparently there's a book of what ID's look like in each state because they had to consult that book. read more

To celebrate &pizza's fifth anniversary, I thought I would review one of their newest ventures which takes all of the amazing things I know and love about &pizza but adds alcohol to the mix. Party time! Excellent! There's a few things going on here that you need to know about: + Hive Bar x &bar is located in the lobby of Hotel Hive, DC's first micro hotel. It's slicky decorated with all of the things Instagrammers love to post about: white marble tables, octagon floor tiles, big sun filled windows, and giant plants everywhere. It's super hip and inviting. + There are just a few drinks of the menu but all of them are well made and under $8, a blessing in a $13 drink town. Even more so, all of the ingredients are from DC distilleries which means you can feel good about your spending your dollar locally. + Adjacent from the lobby is a full service &pizza that is doing its darn thing...only this time with breakfast pizza! + If you're in need of some Vitamin D, head up to the the expansive rooftop with greenery and street art everywhere. They have bottle service, beer and wine here but you would be a sucker if you didn't order their specialty frosé. + The best part about this entire venture is the people -- every single bartender, server, or hotel worker has been extremely kind and welcoming. Even when mistakes have been made (it happens because people are human) every single touchpoint has been exceptional to make things right. To me that speaks volumes about the high quality operation they are running. This place is hoppin' but still quite a hidden gem. I highly recommend checking it out before summer ends! read more
