It's cooked perfectly with ginger and garlic, and I order it every time I go to Dan Dan. The wonton soup is the perfect dish to fill you when you want a light dinner, especially when it's cold out! This was my first time here and definitely not the last. As we were a little late, we decided for a cocktail and dinner at the bar. Staff was more than friendly despite our late arrival. Great cocktails, dumplings and spring rolls as appetizers were spectacular. The bar area had high tops and was a very sophisticated casual atmosphere to drink and dine. Now, the entrees. Off the charts. The sizzling won ton entree was way beyond expectations and the presentation was very well done. The Ginger Scallion dish was simple but brilliant. Perfect balance of flavors. My boyfriend and I LOVE this place. We have tried 3 other Szechuan places in the area and this is by far the best. This is authentic food; you're not going to find chicken and broccoli on this menu. My favorite dishes so far have been beef tendon, dan dan noodles, and the bunapi mushroom entree. Please be patient and allow this place to work out the kinks that any new restaurant is bound to have. Have an open mind and a more sophisticated palate than the average Mainliner? Just try it. Give 5 stars to the service, the waitress is very caring. The place is crowded during the weekend and eating outside is available. However, the food is very off! Either too salty or too sweet!! I couldn't eat without keeping drinking my water. DanDan noodle was just too salty especially with the sauce, so I had to eat with rice. That's a bit weird of eating noodles with rice but I had to. Three cup chicken was tooooooo sweet, I just ate one bite because I was feeling eat dessert/sugar . It was quite different from the three cup chickens I ate in other Taiwanese restaurants. There have been a number of Szechuan style restaurants popping up around the Philly area starting with Han Dynasty (various locations in and around the city) and even one that opened in Newark, DE (Chef Tan). Dan Dan takes the same formula in a suburb of Philly. While we did not try to Dan Dan Noodles (too spicy for my kids), we did try our usual dishes such as the Twice Cooked Fish (they use flounder instead of talipia), Dry Pepper Chicken, Dumplings in Chili Oil. All very good. I haven't been able to distinguish one of these restaurants over another, but I'm in love with the genre of cuisine. As long as they can make food comparable to the others in the area, I'm a big fan. Of course the best measure of the authenticity of such restaurants is the clientele. Most of the patrons at Dan Dan were Chinese, so that speaks volumes! read more

Their Dan Dan noodles is just the best but everything else was super disappointing. We got their dry pot chicken which wasn't very flavorful like the ones we eat, their twice cooked fish dish was extremely oily and felt too greasy. The vegetarian farmer's style dish lacked any flavor. It did have a lot of tofu and cauliflower in it but was not great. Loved the place, it's a beautiful space inside and outside with great service. We used to get the spicy and sour ribeye pot all the time. This is the first time it's been so bland and unappetizing. It normally has great flavor. This time the dish was super bland, tasting like unsalted beef broth. It was inedible. It was also missing enoki mushrooms and cilantro. Fantastic meal there with a couple that had never been - he liked very spicy but she preferred mild and needed to stay gluten-free. DanDan was up to the challenge! The Szechuan whole fish was pretty special - definitely try if you are up for a little culinary adventure. The gf DanDan noodles were tasty, if not quite as good as the fully leaded version. This was my first time trying the cold appetizer pork belly, but it won't be the last - it was a big hit for everyone. Their Westlake soup is one of the best I've had - so highly recommended for tasty without spice. Food is good. Service is good. I really like the menu options. I think this whole 5oz or 9oz wine thing is lame. Just pour a glass of wine. So much more genuine than feeling like you're being nickel and dimed. Ever since they started that we just get take out and drink our own wine at home. We do go less frequently now. The restaurants that do these pour types are really bad chains like pizzeria uno. Just go back to pouring wine. Food is great. read more

Good to have a tasty, authentic Szechuan place in the suburbs. The food is very good, and the ambiance is very nice, although markedly different from most Chinese restaurants. The design is pretty much like a regular restaurant you would expect to find on the Main Line, but that doesn't take away from the food quality. My first impression not great and I won't return. I ordered the house special fried rice no flavor and dry. The rice probably had maybe three or four shrimp and they were very small and the other meats chicken/pork where below minimal. My husband liked his dish however it was lukewarm when it arrived and had to ask for his food to be reheated. The service was lacking my husband received his more complex dish first and my fried rice took an additional 10 to 15 minutes to arrived and the waitress said to me just one time your food would be out soon. The waitress avoided eye contact and seemed to know things weren't good with us. She provided me with the device to sign and once we paid our bill she disappeared. Overall I believe the lack service and lateness of food seem to stem from all the doordash/ubereats orders that we watched being brought from the kitchen. read more

This was the absolute worst dining experience I have ever experienced and "Iris" did not make it better. My sons and I arrived without a reservation on a Friday but had no problem waiting. Our table was ready and we walked thru the entire dining room to a back curtain area. There was absolutely no one back there. We were surrounded by the left over items, chairs, to-go containers, flies. Our table was set for 3 but maybe 2 people could sit there, especially since all the other tables in the "area" were for 2 people. Oh and there was zero air conditioning. Our server was great but about 15min into eating, the pressure to leave became evident. No one was sitting in the back section, so why 5 people randomly walked back to look at us made no sense. Due to the excessive heat and obvious segregated areas, I left a note for the manager regarding our service. It was than once I arrived home that Iris called. Iris informed me she liked that area of the restaurant because it was so quiet, the power was out and that's why the air was off, and as an Asian woman she understood discrimination. When DanDan opened in the city, I sort of became a regular but when I moved out to King of Prussia it made it almost impossible to get some good Asian food. So when this location opened up... Man was I excited! This space is so much bigger than one in Philadelphia and it's beautifully decorated. We came on a Wednesday, so it wasn't too busy. The owners and the rest of the staff were incredibly nice and so accommodating. Just joking around with the staff made the experience that much more enjoyable. The food was fantastic. We started with spicy cucumbers, scallion pancakes, and dumplings. We ordered about five main courses and shared them amongst our group of six, and we cleaned house. Now that there's a DanDan about 10 minutes away from my house, I'll probably become a regular at this location. read more

I was here to drop off my daughter for college and we needed a place to get dinner. We got take out from here and they were so nice to give us extra containers that we could eat out of. The dumplings in hot sauce were very good - I would have them again for sure. We also tried the green beans and the chicken with ginger. It was all very flavorful and the staff were super friendly. Dan Dan has multiple locations on the main line, the Dan Dan in Devon Wayne is where we ate. The atmosphere is a modern restaurant and bar. Comfortable seating and quick service. When ordering from the menu take into consideration the spice levels. Spice is rated 1-5 stars. If you want spicy ask for a 4-5! :) I We started off with scallion pancakes, wontons in chili oil, Pot stickers and a hot and sour soup. Wontons in chili oil are a great warm up for spice. They are sweet, garlicky and spicy. The pot stickers were consistently crispy and flavorful with beef. The hot soup was more sweet than spicy, but the broth was a perfect consistency. Scallion pancakes were balanced between crispy and oily. These dishes were perfect to warm up for spice. We then ordered two beef dry pot, garlic sauced beef, crab and beef steamed soup dumplings, dan dan noodles, vegetable fried rice and country style beef with cilantro; which is the spiciest dish on the menu coming in at 6 stars. The dry pot consisted of a delicious mix of vegetables and beef, which compliment each other well. Beef was coated in a flavorful oil. This dish is served over a flame, the presentation was entertaining. The garlic beef was sweet with a little spice, subtle hints of garlic and very well rationed meat and vegetables. Perfect for a minimal spice dish. The spicy style dish had a mix of cilantro, peppers and spices topped over the beef. The beef wasn't spicy, but when coupled with the toppings it had some kick. If you are someone looking for spice, this dish is not as spicy as advertised. A bit too oily as well. The vegetable fried rice coupled the dan dan noodle extremely well. I would recommend getting these together. The rice is refreshing for your mouth with the spicy noodle. The subtle peanut flavoring is great with the heat as well. The dumplings were served in a bamboo dish, a cloud of steam appears as the lid is opened! The dumplings are great served in a soup spoon, poke and taste the soup! Unless you want it all at once with one bite. This dish would be great for dumpling fans. Overall, the service was attentive, food had a great presentation and tasted above average. I would recommend visiting this Szechuan spot, if you're looking for some spice, variety and relaxation! read more

The restaurant was very empty when my boyfriend and i went for lunch but the seating area was very clean and organized. There was a shaded outdoor seating area as well that was very pretty. Overall ambiance of this restaurant was great. We ordered 4 dishes and all of them were delicious, flavor was superb ,the only minor comment i would have is that some of the dishes had a but too much sauce/seasoning in it (ex. chili oil), however, the dishes were still great. Its not common you have a place that can offer authentic flavors like this. Overall i had a wonderful lunch, dishes were of shareable portions, price is fair for those portions. I have been this restaurant a few times and my past experience has been good until my last visit on 12/22 for lunch. I found something metallic from my food. It can happen, but the manager did not seem to care at all. The manager never showed up to apology and told his/her server to say "We will deduct the charge from bill". Stopped for dinner this time and enjoyed the eponymous Dan Dan noodles. We also shared the dry pepper chicken, nicely peppery, as well as the sizzling dumpling which was good but not particularly exciting. We had plenty of leftovers as the plates were large. However, I question whether we received all of the entree as the one container was burgeoning with food but when I got it home and on a plate the next day, it appears less than what was on the original platter. read more
