The chicken was tender and they used white meat. The roast pork buns were similar to any other roast pork buns. Grew up in the area years ago when Berwyn was a sleepy little town with not much but apartments and a septa station. Now there is this shopping plaza with Dim Sum Mania. I miss the massive dim sum restaurants I used to frequent. The 800 seat Jin Fong in NY. Oriental Pearl in Atlanta. Point to what you want when the carts come by, sometimes, with a language barrier, not knowing what it is you pointed to. It's a fun way to eat! Dim Sum Mania isn't fun. But it's good. And despite a name that sounds Americanized, there are always Asian patrons, likely there to shop in the neighboring Hung Vuong. We're in the habit of ordering two types of dim sum, and one entree. We duplicated the crystal shrimp dumplings we ordered last time, and tried Shanghai pork soup dumplings. (The soup dumplings were better than what I had at Joe's Shanghai in NY, a restaurant known for their soup dumplings.) I was bowled over by today's eggplant with garlic sauce. This is the underground hottest place for good Asian food. Will is the owner and took great care of us. He's committed to his business! We did a big take out order tonight and had to order for someone with Celiac. They consulted on the best food to get and accommodated different meals. Everything was so delicious! Best gluten free dishes: sautéd string beans with pork (yum!), orange flavor beef and roast duck. Dry pot fish wasn't GF but also so tasty! I dined here for the first time last night with 3 other adults. The inside of the restaurant was hip and clean, though on the warm side. I was sweating pretty much the entire time, which was very uncomfortable and made me want to leave...but I really didn't want to leave because the food was so yummy! We ordered a variety of dumplings and buns, scallion pancakes, and beef Chow Ho Fun (wide noodles) to share, and didn't leave a scrap. I wish I could've tried everything on the menu! The sauces are on the table (side note: the dumpling sauce bottle was sticky...) so you can use what and how much you want. Everything was hot and fresh and delicious! The noodles and soup dumplings were probably my favorites. We didn't get any drinks or dessert. The service was good overall, though we did have to ask for water refills. The food came out quickly and they did a great job clearing empty plates without making us feel rushed. A pleasant surprise. This byob offers an excellent selection of dim sum and traditional Chinese food. The dim was good - not crazy good, but a solid 8. We added a couple of entrees - the green beans with pork and the rice cakes. Both were really outstanding. The green beans were cooked just right - and served with pork. The rice cakes were a new one for me - where have they been all my life? They're made from the same dough as Mochi is - but sliced and fried up with mushrooms in a sauce that was unbelievably good. Dumplings are fine as they are usually pre-made, but the wonton soup and dry pot chicken are way too salty, as if the salt jar was tipped over and all the salt fell into the dishes. My last review was for takeout and it was already at 4 stars! My coworkers and I brought some guests from out of town for an early dinner one weekday evening. They had our tables ready to go. The staff answered all our questions and double checked that our gluten intolerant coworker was able to eat certain dishes for us. A lot of the items on the menu are gluten free so she was very happy she could eat almost everything we ate! The food was fresh and tasted amazing. We got everything from crab and pork soup dumplings to salt and pepper seafood. Tom's fried rice is a favorite among the group and the beef and broccoli was one of the best I've had in a long time. They have high chairs for kids and there seemed to be quite a few families so they must be very accommodating towards the kids. The food came out quickly and we left happy and full. I am so happy to have a Dim Sum restaurant near my home! This place was recommended to us by a few people. It's in a very unassuming older retail center. The inside is modern, clean and not what I expected from the outside of the retail center! The service was very good. They were on top of serving us making sure everything was good and if we needed anything. It's small inside so I can see on a weekend it can get pretty busy. The place is BYOB too. I thought everything was delicious my only comments would be the menu does not have most of the ingredients listed in some of the main dishes. One had mushrooms and my husband can't have them so we needed to pick around them. The pork soup dumplings were amazing and the shrimp dumplings too. I could eat just those! More and more dim sum restaurants are opening in the local area which is good for many people craving for dim sum don't have to drive down to Chinatown. First I want to tell you I was in Hong Kong where dim sum is a must so I was raised eating dim sum since very young so I know what makes it good, but of course food have to evolve also to be appealing to many people. Let's get right to it, I ordered 1/4 roast duck on the menu and the waitress just repeated as half roast duck and at that time I just agree, but there is a big price difference on the menu, the roast duck come out very crispy, however there are more bone pieces than the meat, the two legs have the most meat. For about $23 dollars, there should be more meat piece, you can get whole roast duck in Chinatown for $30. I ordered French fries for son, fries took a while to come out but when it did the fries are super crispy and good. Next is fried shrimp ball, they are big and there are real small shrimp pieces in them so it's not totally shrimp paste like others, I would recommend if you like shrimp ball. Next is sticky rice in lotus leaf, size is good, there is good amount of chicken in there and a piece of Chinese sausage, the flavor is good and also there is a big piece of chicken meat inside. Next is Dan Dan noodle with pork, the pork version cost an extra dollar, I would not recommend the pork, because it's like they just sprinkled few pieces on top for the look. For the price you can get a big bowl of Dan Dan noodle somewhere else. Pan fried mini pork bun was juicy on the inside and cooked right, however the dough on the bun itself should be thicker as they are supposed to be. Scallion pancakes is a little on the thick side so I feel like I am eating a layer of dough, but it not bad. Food came out fast, the place is small so if you go there at dinner time you might have to wait, we went around 5:30pm on Saturday and I was seated right away but not long after there was many waiting. Inside the restaurant looks clean, their table seems to be folding table and folding chair set, it is ok to me, I am there for food not for the look. Really good food. I've had the beef brisket soup, which is probably the best outside of Chinatown that I've had. The scallion pancakes are nice and thick, not too greasy. I usually stay away from the pan fried pork buns because they end up being too doughy and not enough meat but when I tried it here, they had a crispy bottom and the soup melted into the dough and it was soft and fluffy, without being too doughy. We also had the salty crispy pork, which was great. Honey roasted pork was a little too greasy, in my opinion, oil was dripping off of it as you picked it up. 3.5 Underwhelmed. Excited to see a Dim Sum place here. Inside smallish. Ordered takeout thru website. 1$ convenience fee. Defaulted tip. Have to click and change if you don't believe in leaving anything for pickup or if you just want to leave 1 or 2 bucks. "Orange flavor" beef basically sugar and ketchup. Beef slices thin but not crispy, with a slightly mealy texture to the corn starch coating. Not really any orange flavor. Only orange the few small rinds you find. Very few red chilis also, if you like that. Kind of saccharine, which could be ok if that is how you like this. Not much flavor complexity. Personally, not a fan of ketchup in Americanized Chinese cuisine. I ate it but a friend just spit it out, saying 'too much tomato.' I agree. Prefer my umami some other way. Maybe just plain old MSG please? Small pieces of broccoli maybe not the freshest. Not a fan of take-outs which economize by using ingredients beyond their prime. Eggplant ok, but have had much more flavorful garlic eggplant elsewhere. In short, not as good as the namesake in Media. Nor as good as Ping Pong, close by at Gateway. Also, kind of expensive. Orange beef in itself expensive at $17.95 and certainly not worth it for this level of quality. Did not really try the Dim Sum offerings. Did try the pork and chive dumplings, which were just ok. They were ordered fried but they were probably mostly steamed and/or microwaved. There is a slight upcharge for fried versus steamed, believe it or not ! If you order through the website, make sure you also click on white rice (for no added charge) for any main dishes you order. You do not get it by default. I know this place is not gourmet, but I am a little underwhelmed by the cooking/preparation technique on display here. Located right near Bad Hair Day in the same general area as McDonald's.
