Meet friends for a birthday at Jim Ding, first time I've been there in many years. Inside the place was very clean and we were welcomed as we entered. Love Jin Ding, my fave chinese because you can get dim sum all hours. also, they started all you can eat dim sum during lunch seven days a week! They started maybe a month ago, I've been four times, lol. I also just went to Happy Hour tonight, there are times are going to Happy Hour two or three times in a week, lol. The food is so delicious and the prices are so good!! My favorites are seafood dumplings, steamed spare ribs in black bean sauce, garlic ribs- they are fried it is incredible. Sticky rice, chicken feet, shrimp shu mai, and shrimp Crystal dumplings. Stuffed eggplant. You know what? I guess I don't have favorites because I can keep going on and on, I eat a ton of food here, lol. Even the crab Rangoon is good and I don't even like crab Rangoon! The service can be a little dicey during the all you can eat dim sum I think they were working out the kinks? I went the first day they offered it and have been several times since. Nice restaurant with plenty of parking. Recently they've started doing all you can eat dim sum during lunch hour. The price for the dim sum buffet is super reasonable. I would have given them five stars if we hadn't ordered what I called their "strategic dishes". As you can see in my pictures, all dim sums are of small potions as they should have been. However, two carb-only dishes are supersized portion-wise: 1) stir-fried seafood rice noodle rolls with XO sauce--you won't see any seafood, but only a big dish of plain rice noodle rolls. It's pretty greasy too. 2) the chow mein portion is so big that it looks like a noodle mountain. We tried to eat as much as we could, but we didn't even manage to make a dent. When these two dishes were brought to the table, I didn't want to ask why three other dim sums I ordered never came. I think the restaurant deliberately made these carb-only dish super big to fill you up, so you won't be able to order more expensive dim sums. It's a cost-saving/profit driven strategy that doesn't sit well with us. We are not the type of customers who would eat a huge amount of food. We would never over order simply because we can. We felt bad when we had to leave the unfinished chow mein behind, but there's no way that I wanted to pay an extra $10 for the leftover chow mein--they should have never made the portion so big. Went for AYCE dimsum. The dishes were really good for the price. However, we've had better dim sum (flavor/quality wise). Dessert was solid though. Tip: don't order the "special" dishes that cost extra.. unless you can confirm you can take it home with you. We did eat everything but would the dishes that are included in the AYCE are more worth it. FYI: you pay for the pot of tea, but you get unlimited refills Service: they brought out the food quickly in the beginning but started to slow down/miss items toward the end which was slightly off putting but understandable as we were eating a lot. We arrived at 12pm on a Saturday for all you can eat dimsum. We probably should've left when it took the hostess what felt like 10 minutes to just seat us, then finally another 10-15 minutes for someone to take our order. I don't know if the level of service was normal or not, but they only had 2 servers that were also bussing the tables, and the hostess must've been helping out because she was always gone from the stand (we had direct line of sight). Another party sat down after us, but they left when it took so long. After our order was in, it wasn't too long for the food to come out. But they forgot 1 dish, which at that point we didn't complain, but asked for another 2 shrimp dumplings for my son. Our server came back with 2 dishes from our re-order and I had asked about the dumplings and she said it was coming. Another 20 minutes later, she came back and we just asked for our check, she asked how was everything and we said our son has been waiting 40 minutes for his dumplings. She said wait and then came out with his dumplings. We were there for almost 2 hours, while we got our money's worth (maybe...) it was not worth the amount of time wasted. The food was okay at best, I could tell the shrimp dumplings and rice rolls were frozen and steamed, they don't have the same texture as fresh ones like in the city. I have gotten takeout from here before, and it was not bad which is why we wanted to try eating in. Unless they change their service, not sure I will come back. read more

Jin Ding Restaurant is a treasure! Jin Ding restaurant is located at the intersection of Haverford Road and Conestoga Road in Bryn Mawr. In an area with several good Chinese restaurants, it makes its own unique contribution. The interior has been redone and refreshed. There is a large dining area both with booths and tables. They also have rooms for larger gatherings, with a varied catering menu available. There is more than sufficient on-site parking, which is important for a Bryn Mawr restaurant. Service is prompt and pleasant. The restaurant offers a great range of choices. When I went there this weekend, our party started with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, which was a wonderful accompaniment to the vegetable spring rolls and dumplings which the other diners ordered. I got the minced chicken and corn soup. I had never had it before because I shied away from any soup that included cream in it. I must tell you that there was only enough in it to give the soup a heft it would not have otherwise had. As for entrees, my wife loved her crispy sesame shrimp, and I tried-for the first time- the eggplant with garlic sauce, Chinese eggplant, in my opinion, tastes different from other eggplant dishes because it is not fried and instead is bathed in the special sauce of Jin Ding. The desserts looked wonderful, but none of us had room for the desserts. The restaurant is located on the site of a previous Chinese restaurant which, at one time, was prominent not only for excellence, but also for its innovative approaches to Chinese cuisine. For various reasons, it closed. While it may sound strange to say, I truly believe that people did not begin to go to the new restaurant only because it would have felt like violating the gravesite of the previous business. Went to this place on a Saturday around noonish to have dim sum with some friends. I was pleasantly surprised. Place was nice and maybe a tad dated but I don't mind that and does remind me of the 'traditional' places I've frequented. It's an all you can eat so that should tell you a tad about the quality. But again like I said I was pleasantly surprised. Quantity and frequency of choice was solid so good number of options to choose from. The shrimp dumplings (Har gow) was good which should please most dim sum goers. They had a variety of rice noodle rolls ( beef, roast pork and shrimp - the cheung funs) which you have to order and they bring back from the kitchen nicely warmed for you. They were not bad ... these are harder to make because more refined eaters tend to like the skin thinner and softer. The beef and roast pork ones were a little too thick but the shrimp one seemed to be a little thinner which did confuse me a little. But overall for the burbs I thought it was acceptable. Everything else from egg custards and rice congee and spare ribs were good. Service was solid too, plates were cleared in a very timely manner and our tea pots were refilled quickly. I generally go to Chinatown or South Philly (close to Fish town) for dim sum but living in the burbs makes this a hassle. So if you don't like making that trek, this is a good place to go with very very reasonable pricing. Stopped by Jin Ding for some dim sum and it did not disappoint! The restaurant overall is very clean and nice! Our server was so attentive and friendly! We were the first table there right when they opened so the service time was also fairly quick! The prices were on the higher side than most places I have visited serving dim sum but they offered the same selection if not with a few varieties. We ordered scallion pancakes, custard buns, pork buns, soup dumplings, shrimp and bbq rice rolls, chives dumpling, their special dumpling and a few more dishes. Our total came out to about $100 + tip. My favorite was the bbq rice roll. The meat was tender and nice small pieces of spare rib paired with the chewy rice roll was delicious! I did also like that the soup dumplings were smaller making it easy to pop and consume without burning your entire face. I was slightly disappointed at the custard buns though. I am not sure if they're premade and just heated but only one of the 3 looked the way it was supposed to. The other 2, looked so deformed, could not tell that it was supposed to look like a pig. I am sure most people probably order this with the intent of it looking cute, so they should make sure to provide the customers with that experience! read more

I stumbled upon Jing Ding on a whim and we decided to grab dinner here as we saw they served soup dumplings and Wonton soup with thinner Wonton skins. We tried a variety of items. *Wonton soup: broth was great. Hot. But the wontons were ice cold. There were only 2 wontons (and they are on the smaller side), it felt like a rip off to me. *Fried crab - read on the menu as if it was crab Rangoon. It wasn't called crab Rangoon on the physical menu in the restaurant. But on their website, it's listed as Rangoon. While I was happy that they used real crab, this was not Rangoon. I didn't find any cream cheese component, it tasted like a crabcake in a fried wonton. There was no cheesy or creamy feel. It tasted good, but not was I was wanting. *pork soup dumplings: while on the smaller side, these were the star of the show and the only thing I would return for. The soup was so flavorful as was the pork. They didn't serve them with a large enough spoon nor chopsticks, I had to ask. *pork lo mein: pork was very fatty. Lo mean was good. Our family has been going to this restaurant for 30 years. There are many special things about this restaurant, but most importantly the place is impeccably gorgeous , the service always friendly, attentive and ready to answer any question we have. Our favorites are of course the dim sum, the soups and the lamb dishes. Whenever I have a friend or one of our family members who is Asian, I always take them here if they ask to go to a Chinese restaurant. Not one time over the past 10 years have they been disappointed. Some of the reviews are just absolutely crazy. I can't imagine being an owner of a restaurant with all the nutty feedback on some of these low rating Yelp reviews. I've been to some of the most renowned Asian restaurants in the Philadelphia area and have to say WOW for Jin Ding. Every detail is perfect from the hand tied Pork Soup Dumplings to the best egg roll I've ever tasted. As if that could not get better, the Crispy Sesame Chicken is the most perfect thinly sliced chicken, breaded and fried to perfection with just a hint of sweet honey drizzled on top with toasted sesame seeds! I cannot find a bad thing to say. My husband had the General Tso's Chcken which was just as good as my entree. In the midst of the panini, post crazy lockdowns, my semi shut-in BFF decided she felt comfortable going out to a restaurant that wasn't outdoors. I managed to find Jin Ding and figured I would pitch it as a lunch date since she always complains about there being fewer and fewer nice old-school sit-down Chinese restaurants. We went mid-week after she wrapped up work early and had a sampling of dim sum. It was all good - dumplings, buns, the lot of it. The service was efficient and courteous, and the restaurant itself is nice on the inside. I could definitely bring family here and not feel obligated to explain away the outward appearance. The parking/entrance is a little funky because the building takes up the triangular corner of the lot but there's plenty of spaces. I would definitely return! read more

Perhaps it was because it was Christmas night and very crowded, but our take out experience was so different from many of the other reviews. The fried tofu with salted pepper had absolutely no flavor and, certainly, no hint of salt/pepper. The same was true of the salted & pepper squid, which was little more than fried calamari. The cucumber with garlic sauce were very large pieces of cucumber, which made them difficult to eat. The sticky rice in lotus leaf was okay, but did not contain much beef and sausage. While the Dan Dan noodles were fine, they are not as good as at other restaurants. The other dishes we ordered, Mongolian beef, general tso's chicken, scallion pancake, and steamed custard buns, were all okay, but bland. The only positive was the service, even for take out. When I tried to pay online, I received an error message. I thought I had to put my information in again. How have I never reviewed this place? I was one of the first people saw the banner go up announcing that they were opening and since then have been here a handful of times. Most of my complaints are about the website. Early on, you couldn't get a lunch special until Noon. That was rectified and I haven't had an issue with that somewhat recently. I have placed orders online that just weren't picked up. I would get a phone call an hour later asking if I still wanted to place the order, but I already found something else at that point. Food wise, this is a decent place. Everything is good, but nothing really wowed me. I miss the previous establishments fried rice, but this one tastes more fresh and flavorful. Yes, I miss something greasier , which was comforting, but I still enjoy this offering very much so. The dim sum has always been good, but I don't purchase it as much. Lately, I have been just getting lunch specials, which are a nice combination. When I go to pickup the food, there usually is no one around and my food is sitting there. Eventually someone shows up and I can leave, but I don't like my food just sitting there. I would give them six stars if I could. Simply the best Chinese food that I have had which surprised me as a native New Yorker. Although I had take out, this is a dine-in restaurant. The parking lot is rather small but the restaurant is spacious with a fully stocked bar. I ordered the fried rice with shrimp and jumbo lump crab and it was spectacular. Plentiful shrimp and substantial portions of crab meat. I also had the chow fun with beef. As most connoisseurs know, the noodles should be broad and flat and it is extremely hard to find restaurants that make it well. Likewise, the pork dumplings are the best I ever tasted. I cannot say enough super positive things about my last two experiences dining in at jin Ding restaurant. My philosophy is that Chinese food is the absolute best when eating at the restaurant. Even in some of my past reviews I've noted that if I've had Chinese food delivered I request that sauce on the side. I then reconstituted the dish my own home wok. This is a great technique for any crispy gooey Dish. Enough about me, let's talk about Jin Ding. The service! Wow! As good as 11 Madison NYC. Top notch service that is attentive while displaying appropriate boundaries. We had everything we could anticipate practically instantaneously. Call Husband commented several times on how excellent the service was. Of course we arrived at the restaurant shortly after 7 o'clock on the Sunday after New Year's day. When I called to make sure they were open I thought the restaurant was crowded because I could hear people and another person repeat again take out order. I was wrong the restaurant was pretty empty. We had one of the private rooms that was cozy. My family enjoyed the Salt and pepper baked calamari and we tried the salt and pepper baked tofu that was delicious. We liked the orange beef (off the menu but were able to order) and my kids really liked the general Taos. The soup dumplings were hit as well as the chicken and dumplings. Everything was delicious. Hey, we thought it would be very wise to let people know the true rating of this restaurant. I would like to review each individual component of our visit. Food: we ordered more authentic Chinese dishes so our ratings on based on that. Bean Curd Skin Roll-6/10. Bean curd skin roll was bland and the vegetables inside were hard to chew and not properly prepared. For example a piece of a vegetable was difficult to chew and had to be spit out. Sticky rice lotus wrap- 2/10. Rice tasted like it had been steamed in water that had soap in it. Beef and sausage inside tasted old and felt like it was not fresh at all. Fried Chilean Sea Bass with black bean sauce- 7/10. Sea bass was well prepared and well fried however the black bean sauce heavily overpowered its highlights. Was 35 dollars on the day, would not order again. Mongolian Lamb- 6.2/10. Lamb was relatively well prepared and relatively tender, however the lamb itself did not even taste like lamb and we thought at first we had ordered a beef dish instead of what we thought. Meat to vegetable ratio was terrible and the sauce felt watered down. Fried Garlic Pork Spare Ribs- 5.4/10. Very salty. No garlic taste whatsoever. Very cheery and overcooked. Felt like it was breaded in a simple mixture of breadcrumbs. Very little meat on the ribs themselves, not worth the price. Atmosphere: Very cold both physically and emotionally. As soon as we walked in, felt very monotone and quiet. Not many people in the restaurant during dinner hours, two people eating alone at a whole booth. Bathroom was nice, clean, and well kept. We went in for a late afternoon lunch and while the place was fairly empty(one other table seated) we found an immaculate moderately adorned dining room. We focused on dim sum: soup dumplings, shiu mai and shrimp dumplings(hargow but not listed as so). The soup dumplings were served at a perfect temp; no need to pierce the dumplings and allow the broth to cool first, just pop em in. I really liked the shrimp dumplings as well. The Shiu Mai was solid but not the best I've had. For bunking with the in laws on the Main Line, Jin Ding is an oasis for non country club foods. I loved the place and the dumplings were respectable in comparison to destination Chinese restaurant cities like SF or LA IMO. This might be the least authentic Chinese food I've ever had, and that's saying a lot. - The cumin lamb had essentially no cumin in it. It was basically just an oversalted soy sauce stir fry of lamb, onions, and red peppers (which are not supposed to be in that dish) - The sweet and sour soup and kung pao chicken (which I understand are not authentic dishes) were way too sweet and basically inedible - The soup dumplings are thick skinned and were served with some sort of soy sauce, instead of the (proper) vinegar sauce. - the blistered green beans weren't actually blistered. The ground pork and sauce they were served with tasted off. The Main Line might not be a hotbed for authentic Chinese food, but run far far away from this spot. read more

I preordered for a set time but they were busy and I still had to wait awhile. We ordered: Steamed Roast Pork Buns Roast Pork Rice Rolls Shrimp Rice Rolls Stuffed Chilis Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf Pan-fried Chives Dumpling Pan-fried Pork Dumpling Everything was at least decent. The pan-fried dumplings and steamed pork buns were as good as I've had out anywhere-- but were far surpassed by how INCREDIBLY delicious the more unusual dishes were!! My family were afraid the chives dumpling might be bland, but the outside was an enjoyably chewy, gelatinous rice layer and the inside a well-seasoned, savory vegetable mix. The fish-stuffed hot chiles were interestingly different and tasty- but the real stars of the order were the rice rolls with delectable, tender pork morsels or whole shrimp tucked between their folds. With a little soy sauce, they were to die for. And we also thoroughly enjoyed the lotus leaves stuffed with sticky rice, crumbled meat, and sausage. The leaves imparted this lovely, subtle fragrance to the rice, gently infusing it with this flavor that reminded me of jasmine tea.
