Han Dynasty delivers fiery, authentic Szechuan cuisine--their Dan Dan Noodles and Dry Pepper Chicken are standouts, packing serious heat and depth. Portions are generous, but service can be brusque during rushes. Not for timid palates!

Han Dynasty is always a hit. Don't be deterred by the fact that they have a few locations - all are consistently good. The service is unbelievably fast, and the flavors are vibrant. If you're not a spice fan, just be wary of the ratings. I consider myself to have a strong love and tolerance for spice, but I max out at 7/10 at Han Dynasty. Thankfully, all their dishes have the spice level next to it, but don't be afraid to ask. One of my favorite, most simple, most comforting dishes is the Cold Sesame Noodles. The Dan Dan Noodles are also a hit, and the amount of food you get is quite frankly a steal. I'm a fan of the dumplings here, too. The Garlic Sauce style with your protein of choice never disappoints. I could bathe in that sauce. The service at this location is okay, but nothing to really rave about. It's pretty fast casual. They have a bar with TVs and a selection of alcohol. This is a good place for groups because it's spacious, with lots of big tables, but it's also perfect a solo dine or a date. You'll have cravings for Han Dynasty for days, and you'll probably have the leftovers to satiate them. This location is particularly inconspicuous, and you might walk right past it without noticing.

Stopped in for a quick meal after visiting a relative in the hospital. We were pleasantly surprised with the food and service. Will definitely be going back!

Han Dynasty delivers serious Szechuan heat--their dan dan noodles (numbing, spicy, addictive) and dry pepper chicken are standouts. Portions are generous, but service can be brusque during rushes. Not for timid palates!

I absolutely love coming to Han Dynasty. Whether it's happy hour or a late night snack, you can always catch me here eating Dan Dan Noodles. Spacious dining room, great staff, and last but not least awesome delicious food. I've been able to sample various like the Dry Pepper Fish, Lo Mien, and Eggplant. Looking forward to trying more dishes. Servers are always nice and accommodating. They make great suggestions and are just pleasant to connect with.

We had a large group and came in late and there wasn't any seating. The restaurant was very accommodating and sat us where a group was late for their reservation. The restaurant serves family style. I like how the center where they put the food spins around. Over all a decent experience.

Fall weather brings out my love for ramen and pho like none other. So just sharing a lunch classic and Philly fav of mine Truthfully-- I don't think I've ever had a bad meal at any of the Han Dynasty restaurants. Service was quick and efficient as it usually is during the lunch rush. They're also running a 15-course tasting event at the end of October and I am definitely going to find my way there. Happy warm and cozy food season y'all.

Very fast service! I came here with a friend and we ordered the cold sesame noodles and king pao chicken. The chicken was spicy, but I loved it so be warned! Will definitely come back here.

Han Dynasty is a classic go-to in University City, offering bold flavors and generous portions. We visited later in the evening when it was less crowded, so the service was quick and efficient. I ordered the vegetable lo mein at a spice level 8, and it was incredibly flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The portion size was huge, much larger than what you'd typically get at other restaurants, making it the perfect comforting dish - especially on a cold night in the city.

Every location is good. Han Dynasty is hands down the best Szechuan in Philadelphia. (Cherry Hill is still my favorite.) Ordered takeout from this location. It was super easy to walk to from my hotel. The restaurant was VERY busy with college kids when I got there. Casual atmosphere. Host handed me my food when I arrived. I ordered something different this time and tried the dry pepper style fish and scallion pancakes. It said the fish would be 8/10 spicy, but it was more like 5/10... I really wish it had more heat. Other than that, the flavors were really good and I can't complain. Hit the spot perfect for my craving. Since I can't take the whole restaurant home with me, I'll definitely be back as always.

Came for a special tasting menu event and UYE. The location is stylish, spacious and great for groups. It was fun to reconnect with "Old Yelpers" and meet some IRL for the first time. Staff were fantastic. They served the whole dining room at one time and still paid attention to whether our water was full or not. They kept track of requests for extra drinks or whatever we needed and were really welcoming. Even Han himself took the time to welcome us, talk with us about the food and his approach to the tasting menu. There were about 15 courses. Standouts were the dan dan noodles and ma po tofu. There was a meat (pork belly?) with preserved vegetable, and I really enjoyed the pungent preserved vegetable. "General Han's chicken" was not greasy or sweet like other "general" chicken out there but had an earthy spiciness and pickled chilis that made it a personal favorite. Oh, and there were garlicky bok choy, fish fillet with bok choy, shrimp and vegetables, dumplings, ribs...so many flavors, all of them delicious. Beef filet with noodles were good too. The clear noodles were good too. They mentioned that the food would be spicy, and I got a little nervous that I wouldn't be able to keep up. But nothing was overly spicy on the menu that I enjoyed. And for the quality of food and the experience, I think the price was incredibly reasonable. Highly recommended.

Food and service were great! The broth for the Wonton was very depth with flavor and will definitely have again! The bartender was great and love the Dragon Fire cocktail!

The homemade DanDan noodles were our favorite, which are served with ground pork in a spicy peanut sauce. We also got the three cup chicken which was so good, with a sweet, licorice-like glaze. Some other favorites were the black pepper chicken and the long hot chicken, if you enjoy spice. We had the ginger and scallion dish and was not our favorite, as the chicken had a unique consistency and was quite limp. Overall, good service and a relaxing ambiance in a bustling city.

The food is consistently strong, and the signature dan dan noodles are a must-order. We also tend to get the chicken potstickers, scallion pancake, kung pao chicken, and dry pot beef, along with white rice for the table. It's a menu that rewards repeat visits. We've had both takeout and dine-in here, and we definitely prefer dining in. The food is at its best when it comes straight out of the kitchen. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and kind without being overbearing. For seating, we prefer the cozy but small upstairs dining area, so making a reservation on OpenTable is usually a good idea. There are a few high-top tables downstairs near the kitchen and windows, which are also great, but if you prefer a quieter or cozier spot, we think the upstairs is best. They also offer a happy hour with good prices, and overall, the value for the food quality is excellent. We often bring out-of-town guests, and it's always a hit. Sichuan cuisine remains distinct from typical American Chinese, which helps Dan Dan stand out. We've also noticed their Ardmore location, which appears to be a strong alternative. Consistently good, well-run, unique, and worth visiting, especially for the dan dan noodles. Highly recommended and hope to be back soon!

We ordered the crispy chicken bao buns, crispy shrimp, general tso soup dumplings, wagyu beef, Korean bbq beef, and hamachi ceviche. We were a group of 3 so one thing that was nice was that our waiter added 1 additional skewer/bao bun for the meals instead of ordering 2 plates of them. Out of all the food we ordered the most delicious were the meats; the wagyu and Korean bbq beef. They were so tender and lightly seasoned because the beef quality itself was good. The Wagyu beef was paired with an apricot dip that was really good. The chilli crisp chicken bao was also good but didn't have much sauce, so it was on the dry side. It was supposed to have chilli so we expected it to be spicy but it was not. We all really liked the crispy shrimp--it was truly crispy. The sauce and the radish paired really nicely with the shrimp as well. The one meal we did not enjoy were the soup dumplings. When we got them they were dripping of raw dough and had no soup in them. The waiter was kind enough to replace them but we still didn't really enjoy them. I did not try the hamachi ceviche because I'm pregnant but it was also a favorite from the group. For dessert we had the mini ice cream cones. The waiter again added an extra one for us. The flavors were chocolate banana and mango. They were good, small bites. One of them melted so quickly and fell on the table and the waiter was really kind and got us a replacement. I did use the bathroom and absolutely hated it. It was unbelievably dark in there and there were weird sounds playing in there. I went in there to make sure I didn't have food in my teeth but couldn't even see. Super inaccessible, hopefully that's something that can be changed. The service overall was clearly excellent! I would recommend this place, especially if you come for the meats. It was surprisingly filling too.
