Wow this place is popular with good reviews? Does Philly not have any Chinese options? Found it to be very average. Dishes were on level (some worse) than an average authentic Chinese place. Probably should've realized when the person who answered phone to take order did not speak Mandarin. In particular, reviews about the dan dan were very surprising. Not sure if I went on a bad day, but this has to be the worst dan dan that I've had. Overcooked, mushy noodles. Wasn't very flavorful. We ended up throwing most of that away. The other disappointing dish was the cumin lamb. Had the same issue... lamb seemed to be overcooked, and also didn't love the flavor. The spicy fish dish, as well as the crispy rice were the only decent things, but again just in line with many many other places.

One of my favorites when I'm in the mood for spicy food! I used to go to the one by University City/Penn's campus more back in college. I love the chili oil noodles - sometimes I just have cravings for these noodles. I personally don't like dan dan noodles as much for some reason but the one here is really good. Three Cup Chicken and Double cooked fish are some other great dishes. Finally, also loved the string beans with minced pork back in the day. Keep an eye on the spice levels/ratings because some of their dishes are super spicy. The seafood soup wasn't really worth it. Also unfortunately spilled a bit on the walk home - the lid came loose - but at least it was double bagged so didn't make a mess. Their new location is down the block from where they originally were in Old City.

This place was so great!! Surprised by how busy it was on a Monday night but that did not stop staff from being attentive and from the food being delivered so fast! Everything was actually sooo delicious and convenient to do family style so we can try many things! They were also really accommodating. One member of our party was vegetarian and they made all of our dishes with the protein on the side. Decent place overall, I ate so much and hope to come back soon!

My partner and I have been planning our next trip to Philly since our last one got canceled and we finally decided to go the week before my birthday. We were both tired after a long day of work and decided to get some takeout and call it a day. We called ahead, placed an order for pickup, and were quoted a 25-minute wait. Upon arriving, our order was neatly bagged and sitting on the counter; it was just a matter of announcing ourselves to the receptionist and paying. Service was friendly and we were in and out of the restaurant in under five minutes. Unfortunately, utensils were not provided, which we didn't realize until after we arrived at our hotel, so just be mindful of this! * Garlic Sauce Style (Pork) 魚香系列 (猪肉) Sweet, sour, spicy, and tangy-- with tender pork, ginger, garlic, bamboo, and wood ear mushrooms. The portion was huge and incredibly savory. You definitely need a tub of rice with this. Thankfully, all entrees come with rice. * Mapo Tofu with Minced Pork 麻婆豆腐 Mapo Tofu is one of my all-time favorites for its spiciness, deep savoriness, and málà flavor. This one was just alright. The sauce was literally just chili oil and it was far too oily for both our liking.

I had a great dinner at Han Dynasty. The real wow factor was the interior, but I think they might have moved buildings in the time since I visited. I also had a great experience with the service. Han Dynasty has a pretty solid menu, with tons of options. I went with the Dry Pot Style Chicken, which was absolutely delicious. The portion was sizable, enough for two meals. If you want something hot and spicy, I would definitely recommend that dish! I didn't get to try any of the happy hour dishes, but they seemed like a great deal.

Where to begin. This place was hyped up big time. First impressions a dark, dingy, kinda scary. Service was ok. It was slow and there was one guy waiting on three tables. He was nice enough. We placed our order, and there was a mistake (we don't eat pork so asked for the dan dan noodles with no meat). The guy who brought it out from the kitchen was a little angry when we pointed it out. On to the food. Dan Dan noodles - 1/5. A little sweet for me and the noodles were way overcooked. Pretty mushy. Spicy cucumber salad - 2/5. Definitely needed more salt. Something to balance out another sweet dish. Chicken lo mein - 3/5. This time noodles were cooked fine. Flavor was alright. Not bad, not amazing. Cumin chicken - 4/5. This I really enjoyed. Loved the flavor. Very good. Could have gone spicier, but you can ask for that and I had no real reference. Steamed rice - 1/5. It wasn't fresh. Very dry and stale. I really wanted to eat this with my cumin chicken.

Chicken Dry Pot. The presentation was nice, but the food was just OK to me.

This place is more like a Mexican Chinese food to me. I was staying at a hostel nearby and decided to check this place out. I ordered their scallion pancake, they came out fast within a few mins, BUT they aren't Hong Kong style or Korean style, they just didn't put enough scallions in it. Glad they are only $5 cuz I m not paying more than that for a mediocre scallions pancake. I also ordered their chicken dry pot with plenty of white rice. It was good, but it was just OK. The bartender didn't really ask me how my food was. I m not sure if they have a bar upstairs or not because the bar downstairs does not look like the one I saw on Yelp so I was kind of disappointed, it wasn't as fancy. And how come I didn't see one single Asian works there???? maybe this one should be call Juan Dynasty. LOL

Sichuan food is my guilty pleasure. The numbing Sichuan pepper is so addicting in moderate amount. I was excited to find Han Dynasty which specializes in Sichuan cuisine. This place is so good. I ordered take out and it was still delicious. The food is well seasoned and portion size is great as well. I got the homestyle tofu dish and the fish dry pepper dish. I need to come back again and dine in person! It's probably a good thing that I don't live right next to this restaurant or else I might be coming here every other week. If you like spicy and flavorful food you've got to give this place a visit!

The homemade DanDan noodles were our favorite, which are served with ground pork in a spicy peanut sauce. We also got the three cup chicken which was so good, with a sweet, licorice-like glaze. Some other favorites were the black pepper chicken and the long hot chicken, if you enjoy spice. We had the ginger and scallion dish and was not our favorite, as the chicken had a unique consistency and was quite limp. Overall, good service and a relaxing ambiance in a bustling city.

The food is consistently strong, and the signature dan dan noodles are a must-order. We also tend to get the chicken potstickers, scallion pancake, kung pao chicken, and dry pot beef, along with white rice for the table. It's a menu that rewards repeat visits. We've had both takeout and dine-in here, and we definitely prefer dining in. The food is at its best when it comes straight out of the kitchen. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and kind without being overbearing. For seating, we prefer the cozy but small upstairs dining area, so making a reservation on OpenTable is usually a good idea. There are a few high-top tables downstairs near the kitchen and windows, which are also great, but if you prefer a quieter or cozier spot, we think the upstairs is best. They also offer a happy hour with good prices, and overall, the value for the food quality is excellent. We often bring out-of-town guests, and it's always a hit. Sichuan cuisine remains distinct from typical American Chinese, which helps Dan Dan stand out. We've also noticed their Ardmore location, which appears to be a strong alternative. Consistently good, well-run, unique, and worth visiting, especially for the dan dan noodles. Highly recommended and hope to be back soon!

Spicy, numbing and, yes also the right level of oily-ness that comes with some of the traditional dishes. Just go with whatever they recommend (even though they have QR menus mainly), but we loved our dumpling in chili oil appetizer, the beef stew, spicy crisped chicken (lazhiji) and spicy tofu. Chengdu Famous Food has created the right balance of cuisine authenticity, hole-in-wall-ness, and hipster vibe... all undeliberately. An absolute gem. Service was friendly. Can see this place being overrun during peak hours, as it was already a bit busy even at 5pm midweek. Lots of takeout business too but fortunately there are seatings available for 20-25 diners. The shop is in a nice area of the revitalized Powelton/Drexel/University City area across from a few new developments with reasonable street parking in the area. Absolutely a go-to if in the area, and may be worth driving a bit to if in the Greater Philly region.

We ordered the crispy chicken bao buns, crispy shrimp, general tso soup dumplings, wagyu beef, Korean bbq beef, and hamachi ceviche. We were a group of 3 so one thing that was nice was that our waiter added 1 additional skewer/bao bun for the meals instead of ordering 2 plates of them. Out of all the food we ordered the most delicious were the meats; the wagyu and Korean bbq beef. They were so tender and lightly seasoned because the beef quality itself was good. The Wagyu beef was paired with an apricot dip that was really good. The chilli crisp chicken bao was also good but didn't have much sauce, so it was on the dry side. It was supposed to have chilli so we expected it to be spicy but it was not. We all really liked the crispy shrimp--it was truly crispy. The sauce and the radish paired really nicely with the shrimp as well. The one meal we did not enjoy were the soup dumplings. When we got them they were dripping of raw dough and had no soup in them. The waiter was kind enough to replace them but we still didn't really enjoy them. I did not try the hamachi ceviche because I'm pregnant but it was also a favorite from the group. For dessert we had the mini ice cream cones. The waiter again added an extra one for us. The flavors were chocolate banana and mango. They were good, small bites. One of them melted so quickly and fell on the table and the waiter was really kind and got us a replacement. I did use the bathroom and absolutely hated it. It was unbelievably dark in there and there were weird sounds playing in there. I went in there to make sure I didn't have food in my teeth but couldn't even see. Super inaccessible, hopefully that's something that can be changed. The service overall was clearly excellent! I would recommend this place, especially if you come for the meats. It was surprisingly filling too.

This place was packed, which is always a good sign, and even with that the staff stayed super prompt and professional. The house special was my favorite. I got it with the knife-cut noodles and it was perfect with the broth. The noodles had that slightly uneven, chewy texture that really holds onto the soup. I never thought I'd be the type to talk about "mouthfeel" but here we are. The broth itself was rich and savory with a deep beef flavor, a little bit of oil on top that adds body without feeling too heavy. It's that classic, comforting Chinese beef noodle soup done really well. I added a braised egg, which had great flavor soaked into it, though it was served cold, which threw me off a bit. The mapo tofu with noodles was also really solid. It had that signature spicy, numbing kick from the Sichuan peppercorns, balanced with a savory, slightly salty sauce. The tofu was soft and silky, and mixing it with the noodles made it extra satisfying. It's got some heat but not overwhelming, just enough to keep you going back for another bite. The shrimp stir fry was lighter but still flavorful. The shrimp were cooked well, tender with a slight snap, and the sauce leaned more on the savory side with a mild sweetness. It felt like a nice balance alongside the heavier noodle dishes. Couple practical things: it's cash only, but there's an ATM right by the seating area which makes it easy. And the portions are generous for the price, so it feels like a really good deal. Overall, super satisfying spot. Busy, a little chaotic, but the food absolutely delivers. Definitely a go-to if you're craving hand-pulled noodles.
