traditional cantonese restaurant with homey bites and generous portion sizes! my friends and i decided to check this restaurant out on a tuesday evening, and we were quickly seated with no wait. we shared three items between the three of us (+rice) which was plenty food, and we even had leftovers to take home. i really enjoyed the peking style pork chop which was flavorful and tender, i feel like it would be very popular among the western audience. the lamb with dry tofu skin hotpot was delicious as well, the lamb was super tender and the dish was perfect for a cold day. overall, we really enjoyed our dinner. the restaurant is simple with a decent amount of seating. there were also a couple of larger round tables with lazy susans, making this a good spot for a larger gathering. read more

Such a hidden gem, the food was so good, came out fast and honestly my only negative review is that we didn't get any orange slices at the end so we had to request them, and our tea was not steeped long enough. Aside from that, no complaints! it's a no-thrills, get your food and get out spot. Prices are reasonable and they are BYOB. Not going to lie, I chose this spot because it has a large parking lot and if you are familiar with Philadelphia, you understand what a huge plus this is! What this restaurant lacks in atmosphere and ambience, it makes up in delicious food and thoughtful service. The menu is extensive, and I had a difficult time deciding what to order. What I could have done was just point to the interesting dishes at the neighboring tables! I was the only non-Asian in the place, so I know the food is authentic. The chicken dish I did order was served quickly, and with a pot of tea on the house. Good Chinese restaurants seem to be rare these days, so treasure and patronize this while you can. The best and freshest shrimp fried rice. One of the severs may yell at u and comes off very aggressive. But I just charge it to cultural differences. Plus he doesn't look it but I was told he's over 70 and hoh. Soo ‍. But besides that food is great. I've liked everything I have ordered there especially the spring rolls. Everything except the salted fish fried rice and I don't care for their curry flavor. But other than that this is 1 of my fav go to spots especially for shrimp fried rice. My family has been going to Shing Kee for a very long time, ever since it opened. Its our familys go to spot when we want to eat chinese in South philly. The workers/owners are always super nice and friendly. This the spot to go to if you don't feel like driving to Chinatown and finding parking when you're craving for canto food. Recently, we came with a party of 7 on a Sunday night and it was fairly crowded, but we were seated within 5 minutes. We ordered 5 dishes and the food came out super fast. My parents absolutely loved the deep fried chicken, and I also think it is one of the best dishes here (even better than Chinatown's). The salty fish fried rice was also delicious, better than most places. The birds nest was OK, we've had better. Even with 7 people and 5 dishes there was alot of left over. Solid Cantonese food in South Philly without having to schlep to Chinatown. In fact, many dishes are just as good if not better than ones you can get from Cantonese places in Chinatown. I strongly disagree with the reviews that suggest the service is bad. It is not super friendly and smiley, but that is purely cultural. By Cantonese standards, the service is more than fine because the tables are tended to quickly, the food comes out quickly, the check comes out quickly after the end of the meal, they often give you orange slices at the end, and it is open late. Favorite dishes include the home style fish hot pot (not the grouper one), stuffed triple delight, ginger scallion lobster, roast duck & wonton noodle soup, and salt pepper fried chicken wings. read more

This place is a fushion between Chinese and Viet food. It's a family style sharing kind of place. My boyfriend and I ordered three dishes and it came out to be about $60, which was a little pricier than expected. But I also got French style filet mignon which is usually an expensive dish! It was perfectly cooked and delicious and I highly recommend it! We also got deep fried salt and pepper calamari and honey walnut crispy with mayonnaise shrimp but both weren't as satisfying as other places I've had it. Went there yesterday. It was one of the only places open late in the shopping plaza. Place was pretty legit and seemed like the local Asian community enjoyed the food at this establishment. We ordered hot pot and from the chef's menu. The hot pot was amazing. The short ribs were cut perfectly (still on the bone) and the egg plant wasn't mushy. Seemed like all ingredients were cooked individually to the perfect temperature. The lobster was also cut perfectly which is amazing cause I really hate opening lobsters to get out the meat. Came here on a late Friday night. We ordered a ton of food since we were starving and there was a bunch of different dishes we wanted to try! Some of the items we got the go was: half a roasted duck, beef chow fun, pork and mustard green soup, scallion pancakes, Hong Kong wonton soup, roast pork fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. After 15 mins we got our food and drove home to DE. Despite driving alittle over an hour our food was still pretty hot which is nice! The good: Beef chow fun - lots of good stir fry noodles and few slices of beef. Overall delicious dish with lots of flavor Duck - also delicious with a lot of meat but super fatty Pork + mustard soup - lots of pork and good peppery flavor to the broth Wonton soup - didn't taste the broth but shrimp wontons in the soup were delicious The okay: Roast pork fried rice was okay needed more seasoning Scallion pancakes : needed to be fried more but decent once pan fried again Sweet and sour chicken: just okay needed more flavor in the sauce The ugly: So not sure if it's from there our international travels... (which we came back into Philly and got this food to go for quick dinner) or one of the items we tried here my husband and I both got some sort of stomach bug which has lasted for almost a week. Could be from the oily residue from all the food we had but it was super delicious (which is why it's a 3 star since we both got sick a day or two after eating this food). Shing Kee is a solid Chinese restaurant and so convenient for anyone who lives in South Philly that does not want to deal with the traffic and parking situation in Chinatown. My family and I have dined in and ordered out from here many times and the food is always consistently good. Some of our favorite dishes are the classic walnut shrimp (w/ mayo), peking duck, salted baked squid, clams with either black bean sauce or minced pork and braised grouper claypot. The soups here are okay but not their strong point. Stick to anything fried, sautéed or braised and you should be good. Service is quick and they're opened everyday, even on major holidays! read more

The staff is friendly, masks are worn properly, and the tables are socially distanced. They offer dine-in and takeout. This used to be a hotpot place, so they either overhauled their menu or they're under new management. Portions are large and family-style (with the exception of noodle soups, which typically aren't). The soft shell crab dish (~$18) was perfectly fried small delicate pieces of crab. They also included two bowls of white rice, which was unexpected-- I had to remember that we were in Philly (in NYC they'll charge you for rice). We also ordered seafood egg noodle soup (pictured). This wasn't my order so my only opinion was that it was a fair-sized portion with a fair variety of add-ins. Not pictured was an order of chow fun (broad rice noodles, also called drunken noodle in other places). It was packaged with extra consideration-- the sauce was in a separate container from the noodles to prevent sogginess. Also not pictured was their salted fried rice dish. On our way out, we overheard a family of 5 ordering 5 dishes for takeout.. With this tipoff, I felt that I had to do the same, and I ordered two to go-- this was a good decision, and now I can recommend this dish as well. read more

We ordered: - beef chow fun - great flavors and beef was tender - pepper steak - boneless ribs with pepper and onions (they used orange peppers as opposed to green). Sauce was spot on and beef was cooked perfectly. Served on a hot sizzling dish - shrimp curry - lots of spice to the curry. Great flavors. - Chinese broccoli: wok- fried quickly in oyster sauce. Really great Cantonese food. I used to go to Shing Kee a lot in the past, but they were a bit inconsistent with the flavor and quality of food. However, recently that has changed. Really flavorful and delicious mapo tofu, Singapore rice noodles didn't have a strong curry flavor, but still really tasty. Beef chow fun was also flavorful, but not the best I've ever had. It was missing that strong onion flavor that I was expecting. Overall a great meal. Lots of meat in all of the dishes and good quantity of food. read more

I had dinner here this evening. My pan fried dumplings were over fried and tasteless. My seafood noodle dish was fresh and okay but not memorable, no real flavor, I guess the soy and chill sauce are on the table for that purpose! Service was good. It's a noisy, very brightly lit restaurant-lots of noise with table setting up for the next day and plate clattering. I think I'd return for a second time but I'd want better food. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. This is based on first time trying this place and it was as a take out only. I ordered 3 dishes: seafood fried rice, half fried chicken and shrimp mayonnaise. I wanted a soup too but it seems that they were not making it. All three of the dishes were really good and it came in good portions. The total came out to be about $40 plus but less than $50. I would have to say it is a little up there for Chinese food but considering the portions and the taste, I didn't mind it. And a delicious scallion pancake! I mean I was eating the pancake like it was my last meal on earth. Considering just about everything else was inedible. Frankly the fellow who I paid was very informed and was completely aware the guy who took my order was trying to pull one on me. (That's why I have 2 receipts take a look) As many of you know, most places I'll give a second chance. For all I know the language barrier could have cause my meal to be a total havoc. I came here with a friend on a weekday around 4pm and the restaurant was not busy at all. We were the only table dining so it was overall pretty quiet. We ordered the Singapore noodles, the salt and pepper pork chop with black bean sauce, and bitter melon with spare ribs. The Singapore noodles were pretty bland and even an addition of siracha did not help. The salt and pepper pork chop was good, but not worth the price you pay. They were pretty thin and it only came with 2 pork chops. As for the bitter melon dish, it was good and there was a lot of spare ribs.
