Khao Soi - Curry Noodles
Makenzie O.

Grabbed takeout from Grandmas Thai tonight. Restaurant was super cute inside, would be a great cozy date spot. Picking up was super easy too. While we enjoyed the Khao Soi, the drunken noodle was just okay. Would skip the sautéed veggies, this is pretty bit or miss anywhere but wasn't my favorite. I think I have other places I prefer. However, would definitely go back to try some other things on their menu!

This was such a neat place!!! Before you even come in, it looks super cute from outside & once you go in, it's even more amazing! It's unique, cozy, clean, and it smells really good. The waiter was super nice & helpful with helping us understand the dishes & what to order. The food was great! Especially the sticky rice!!! This was my first time trying it & I want more!!!

We got a reservation and were served pretty quickly. The food was flavorful but the portions could have been larger especially with the chicken. The interior is cute and romantic! There was enough leftover curry for another meal or two after the two of us finished.

def get a res bc this place gets busy but lives up to the hype! Our table loved the duck and the penang curry. The pad see ew was a little too sweet for me, but enjoyed the crispy pork

My daughter and I came here on a whim. We were seated promptly without reservations. Surprisingly, it was packed due to restaurant week in Philly. U-T was our server and she was exceptional. Josh, another server, also helped us as well. Service was a little slow, but given the circumstances of every table being filled, that was perfectly fine. Everything we've had was delicious. I ordered the curry duck on the go and that was delightful. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

My husband made reservations for us to eat here for Valentine's Day and I was so excited because Grandmas has been on my list to try! I am so glad he made reservations because it was packed! We got seated and the hostess mentioned that since it's Valentine's Day we had an hour and 15 minute limit to eat. Which for us was fine because we wanted to eat and get home. It was super cramped where they sat us. You can see that every space in that restaurant was used. I wasn't a fan of the seating due to just feeling super close to the other couples. I ordered the chicken Pad Thai and my husband ordered the beef Kra Prow and both were AMAZING! The Kra Prow was delicious and flavorful. The Pad Thai was too good! I haven't had such good pad Thai in a very long time. We're so glad we came to try this out and we cannot wait to order takeout from here in the future!

Tasty dishes with tons of flavor, but service is definitely slow! My friends and I had a reservation for 7:30pm on a Sunday. We checked in on time and were only seated by 8pm. Our server was friendly and efficient, but our dishes all came out at random times which wasn't ideal. To drink, I ordered the Thai-Teani, which was perfectly tart and sweet! For apps we had the Veggie Spring Rolls and the Chive Cakes. Both were delicious! I highly recommend the chive cakes -- super crispy and chewy with a spicy, savory sauce. For my main I ordered the Khao Soi, which was so incredibly flavorful and perfectly spiced! If you're in between a noodle or curry dish, this is the one for you! Can't wait to try more menu options!

I was recommended to try this place from a friend, and it did not disappoint! The food was so flavorful and great to share around the table. Our server was also very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. I'll definitely be back!

The food and service were wonderful. There was a wait even though we had a reservation. We got the drunken noodle, papaya salad, and pad Thai and they were great. We got mango sticky rice for dessert and it was amazing. Very happy with our experience. The ambiance was dark and moody which was great.

Panang curry

The Panang curry was silky and rich. Drunken noodles came out with quite the kick, but didn't quite have the nice char to it. Eggplant was alright. Service was attentive despite the crowd. Not the quietest spot for an intimate meal.

My family and I were looking for a spot to have lunch after spending a few hours at F1 arcade. I found Grandma's on Google and it had great reviews so we took our chances and walked in. I love food served tapas style. I find myself eating less because I know it's being shared with everyone. Our server was Vlad. He didn't check on us much, but was a nice man. Not only was he waiting on several tables, but he was greeting customers at the front and answering phone calls. I understand he may have been busy. We started with the veggie spring rolls. They were crunchy and the edamame was prominent. I liked the dipping sauce they came with. My favorite dish in terms of shared plates was the Pad Thai. It was flavorful. The drunken noodles were a bit too spicy for me and the stir fried eggplant was somewhat bland. Lots of veggies mixed in. The portions were generous and everything was reasonably priced for Center City. I enjoyed dining in the lovely atmosphere and having a wide selection of food to choose from.

I am stoked to provide an update and am so glad I gave Grandmas another try. The menu has been revamped both in the form of items but also the menu book itself. The menu is literally a stocky book. It illustrates if something has an allergen which was a concern with my last visit. The service was really good as well, the server was easy to flag and was super sweet. We got a table for six around lunchtime on a Sunday relatively quickly, we had to wait roughly 15 minutes. Crab rangoons - you get 5 for $15 which may seem like a lot but these are the best crab rangoons I have ever had, they use fresh crab, none of the imitation stuff Rad-na mhee krob , pad thai, pad kee mao drunken noodles and pad si ew were all excellent options with generous portions! Grandma's Philly's spice level 1-5 doesn't just bring the heat, it brings the flavor. I liked how they had a QR code to pay via Apple Pay.

Nice Thai restaurant on Walnut and 13th Street. We made the reservation and were seated right away. The inside decoration is pretty nice and spacy. We are no Thai food experts, but the menu contains a pretty good variety of foods. We ordered the papaya salad (spicy level 2, refreshing and delicious); Fried Calamari (standard fare), meat balls (OK, nothing too special) and Chicken Wings with Saratha sauce (crispy and tasty). For main dishes, we had the curry noodle and Thai basil with shrimp; both are well flavored. One small complaint is none of their phone numbers work; one keeps on bring us to the voice mail and then said mail box is full; the other is AI and can't do anything and just redirect us to the voice mail number.

Via Locusta has been on my radar every time I've visited Philadelphia, and I was so excited to…read morefinally try it, especially since my husband was in town with me this time. Making a reservation online was quick and easy, though I've know it gets very busy on weekends and during the summer. Even though we had reserved a table, we grabbed a sit at the bar (our favorite way to do it). Great decision! Our waitress, Alex, was fantastic. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and went beyond just listing items, she shared her personal favorites and honest perspectives, which really helped us make our decisions. We started with a bottle of Super Tuscan, which was just what we were looking for (and at a great price id say). Their wine list is great, and they have a full bar too. I've heard they're known for their focaccia, but we didn't try it this time... definitely on the list for next visit. For food, we had the Bufala Mozzarella with zucchini/mint on sourdough toast to start. So fresh and flavorful. Then we shared the Crab Pasta and the NY Strip. Both were delicious. The portions aren't huge, but they were perfect for us to share and left us totally satisfied. We were way too full for dessert, but everything we saw coming out looked amazing, next time for sure. They also have a $56 per person family-style option (2 appetizers, a pasta, a secondi, and a contorni), which honestly sounds like a great deal. Definitely something we want to try next time. The space is modern and fits perfectly in Rittenhouse. So happy to finally check this one off my list... and definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to whenever I'm in Philly.

The atmosphere is fun and funky, the diners all seemed to be enjoying themselves. The inside is gorgeous however right at the front door is terribly uneven brick and I almost turned my ankle. We started to order the Chefs Table but realized that would be too much food. I tried the carrots as an appetizer and I just couldn't get enough. I could have eaten two plates. I also ordered the fig ravioli and, sadly, I wasn't as I had hoped. The balance of fig to Gorgonzola cheese wasn't quite there. It need a bit more sweet and less oil. The ravioli looked very oily and overcooked. The taste wasn't great, I bit into large peppercorns many times and it was overpowering and changed the taste of the dish. Service was impeccable however friendliness and being in the weeds doesn't go together. I will say everyone seemed to be working very well together and expediting dishes out of the kitchen. I would definitely recommend Via Locusta to anyone visiting Philly however I would also suggest they try somewhere else first.

I am vegetarian, so here are my thoughts on the new items. Ensalade Verde: is the absolute best salad in the city. in the country even. absolute must get. it's big, however me and my sister still refuse to split it. definitely shareable though if you're not as greedy. Patatas Bravas: slightly different iteration than their past one. I think it's actually better. you get more potato's, more sauce, and the sauce just tastes slightly better but who knows. always ordered when we go Brussels Catalana: technically there is blue cheese in this, however, I am a certified blue cheese hater and I had no idea. so don't be turned off by that. first time having this dish and it was solid. good portion, well coated, right texture. will get again Pimientos De Pardon: shishito peppers were good, decent amount of them. I think everyone had three and we had 4 people. wouldn't get again just because there are other things more worth it but still great. Unknown Cauliflower dish: i'm not seeing it on the menu, so maybe it was just removed, but it was essentially a cauliflower gratin dish. I wouldn't get again. it was good, but lacked salt and was basically just a cauliflower in some heavy cream with a tiny amount of bread crumbs. Valenciana Paella: this has meat in it obviously, but I did eat around the pieces. if you're vegetarian and don't mind your food touching the meat, it's very easy to pick around. all the meat pieces are medium sized. This was very good, the rice was amazing, the watercress was so good. presentation was great. worth the time and money especially if you eat meat Ganache de Chocolate: pretty good. honestly interested in trying the rice pudding next. or just ordering another patatas bravas for dessert. shareable between two people. Passion fruit mocktail: MUST GET for all non drinkers! expensive? yes. worth it? yes. taste is great and it's also a nice thing to have if you're with others who drink and don't want to be left out. it's set up just like an alcoholic drink would be.

The tasting menu had three tiers you could choose from- $35, $45, and $55/person. We chose the $55/person option which included the full menu of tapas as well as dessert. They pick the most popular dishes to bring out to the table but also allow you to request any specifically that you'd like. By the end of night, we had a TON of food, even more than we could finish, and ended up trying at least 15 different dishes. All the food was great, with some of my favorites being the eggplant caponata (cold, very flavorful), scallops a la plancha, jamon & manchego croquetas, spiced beef empanadas, and the paellas. Favorite dessert was the chocolate cake, but we were received all the desserts other than the ice cream and sorbet. I may have liked the food experience less if I had ordered off the regular menu and only tried a few small plate, but I loved the option of trying so many dishes. By the time we finished everything, we had been there for over 3 hours (including lots of wine of course), which was really fun! The place gets packed on a Saturday night so we would not have gotten in without a reservation.

Ended up here by accident because I was window shopping with my 3 year old and he suddenly shouted…read more"I need to potty"...most establishments do not have restrooms available to the public so I figured our best bet was a restaurant and popped in here. The staff were immediately sympathetic, super friendly and helpful. Of course, as if I wasn't embarrassed enough, as soon as the 3 year old washed his hands, he shouted "I'm hungry" (is this sort of human I'm raising?). We were already in a restaurant so why not. Before being seated or looking at the menu, I asked for some fries to be put in and the waitress offered some chicken tenders. After finally looking over the menu, I don't think these are regular offerings so I appreciated them trying to be accommodating to a frazzled parent at dinner time. My vegan mother in law joined us and we were pleased that there were so many options for her. My absolute favourite (such that I had to order another round) was the eggplant caponata - perfectly sweet with a little bit of spice. It was so warm and comforting - exactly what I want at the end of a long cold day. My MIL's fav were the Brussels sprouts - they had a tang reminiscent of buffalo sauce and were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, textured heaven (extra bonus points for the 3 year old absolutely LOVING them - he redeemed himself). If you like hummus, try the spinach and chick pea cazuela. Squash is in season so I knew it was going to be delightful - the pomegranate was a combination that was new to me, but it didn't disappoint. We didn't try the roasted carrots (because my household is all carroted out for the moment) but someone one table over was gushing over them. As a meat eater, I have to say that the non meat tapas were standouts - I tried the empanadas, they were fine; I didn't enjoy the meatballs and I just wanted to order more of the eggplant caponata. All in all, I would definitely come back, maybe for drinks with friends or date night. The drink list looked inviting and nothing says intimacy like mood lighting and shared plates. The price (without alcohol) was very approachable - for $80 a vegan, a 3 year old and a frazzled mom left satiated.

Cozy and romantic and we were seated with a great view of the open kitchen, which compared to some other open kitchens, was humming away and directed by the head chef/owner. We first ordered several dishes from the tapas menu: Eggplant, Albondigas, Bacalao, and Roasted Beets. The eggplant was custardy on the outside and perfectly charred on the inside and its savory yet sweet profile would convert any eggplant hater. The beets were nicely steamed and sprinkled with a flavorful pistachio dukkah, though the coconut kefir swoosh on the bottom wasn't super flavorful. The albondigas were good, the pork/beef mix a bit overworked but the tomato sauce they were in was bright and perfectly spiced and made a perfect sauce to dip the abbbbsolutely DELICIOUS housemade sourdough slices this course came with. Last of these was the bacalao fritters, perfectly fried and topped with a citrus aioli. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Order these. Next was the raciones course, which is basically just tapas but just more meat-centric. We ordered the chicken leg with berbere and saffron couscous (came with housemade pita bread squares) and the Spanish sausage with roasted long hots. The chicken was our least favorite of the night. Overcooked and lacking much flavor, though the couscous made up for it with its saffron essence and sweet and soft dates and apricots. The pita bread, just like the sourdough was DELICIOUS. (Can you tell I like bread?) The sausage was salty and perfectly charred and another favorite of the night. They have a tapas/raciones tasting menu for $55 and the above cost two of us about $100 so we might try the tasting menu the next time though, we left full satisfied. Definitely will be back!
