I love a no-nonsense dumpling spot. We got seated immediately and staff were good at hovering at the front and watching tables because they forecasted all of our needs. I've been here a handful of times and every time it's been solid - the food always tastes fresh and the prices are very reasonable. My go-to items are the pork belly noodle soup, tendon noodle soup, and the boiled dumplings. The pork soup dumplings here are pretty good as well. I'm personally not a fan of the pan fried dumplings here because the wrapper is a tad too thick for me and the last time I was here they only fried the bottom part of the dumplings, whereas I would have preferred a more evenly fried dumpling when the wrapper is on the thicker side. read more

It's a relatively short walk from the Liberty Bell to Chinatown - thus making it an ideal place for tourists to visit for food. I have been meaning to visit this restaurant because it has a good reputation for good food. The menu is very comparable to another smaller soup dumpling chain. Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh. The beef in the noodle soup was tender and the cold wood ear dish was my favorite so far. The soup dumplings were also very good, although not the best (7.5/10). I was however surprised to see that the pan fried buns were just the same as the soup dumplings, not the more pillowy, yeastier, sweet doughy bun that is the cousin of a traditional soup dumpling. When we asked for the check, it was presented to us on a mobile device that the server held on to, giving us all of 5 seconds to review and pay. Some of the best dumplings I've had in my life, wow. These are really unique dumplings, different from usual because they are more soupy. Everything we ordered was delicious. The food came fast, and the staff are friendly. The interior is casual and unassuming, but the food is mindblowing. For appetizers and sides, the bean curd, wood ear mushrooms, and bok choy are good. I've tried a few things here and some dishes are better than others. The seaweed with spicy garlic is delicious, and the soup dumplings are are very large with lots of flavor. The spicy dumplings have a nutty flavor I wasn't into, so I wouldn't get that again. Soups are big and taste fresh, but they need a splash of hot oil to wake up the flavors. Good place overall. Was looking forward to checking out Luscious Dumplings for some time now. There are very few Asian restaurants specializing in Taiwanese cuisine in Philly, and we were hoping Luscious Dumplings could be the one that can satisfy our Taiwanese food needs now and in the future. My husband and I ordered a few of theirs dishes online including the pan-fried pork dumplings, the scallion pancake, the mushroom meat sauce rice bowl, and their signature dish - the Angus Stewed Beef Noodle. Everything tasted just okay to us. Not terrible, but not great either. Everything tasted very homely, in fact, too homely for our tastes. One thing that I did like though, was their scallion pancake is a lot thinner than other Chinese restaurants. The food items here are also priced very reasonably, and perfectly portioned for one meal. The California location might have been awarded the Bib Gourmand award in 2021, but the Philly location definitely does not taste like Bib Gourmand award level. What a delicious restaurant in Chinatown. My daughter wanted to visit here for the piggy buns, but ended up eating some of my noodles as well! The beef noodles were absolutely delicious, the beef was tender and juicy, and the bok choy was cooked wonderfully. Walked past this place a couple of times while in China Town so had to make the stop. The name of the place was what caughy my attention. Inside it was very spacey and lots of tables to sit at. We got greeted and seated right away. We got the scallion pancakes, steamed snow crabs and pork soup dumplings and the cutie piggy buns. All comes out to be total of $25 and some change which is AWESOME! -Scallion pancakes is delicioua, it is crispy and thin and flavoring is just right (it's deff not like scallion pancakes anywhere that i have had before) - Snow crabs and pork soup dumplings: thin and chewy outside and flavorful and soupy on the inside. This is the best (if not tied for best) beef noodle soup I've had in Philly. The angus beef portions are very healthy (they don't skimp on your protein!!) and the price of $12.95 per bowl is such a steal. It literally does not get better than this bowl in the greater Philly area. The food took a longer than expected to come out but it was so worth it. But then no one sat us either, which we assumed it was a seat yourself place and just sat down. A few moments later, the couple that came behind us was greeted and the waiters rushed to seat them and take their order, ignoring us. I don't like to assume things but sometimes when you look different than people, there's a prejudice that takes place. There was one man in particular that was rolling his eyes when we were talking to him which made me uncomfortable. Luckily another waiter came along who was much nicer and engaged in conversation with us. I ordered a pork bun and custard buns and my friend ordered pan fried pork dumplings. Would give this spot 3.5 stars but rounding up to 4. I came with one other person for a Saturday lunch because I was particularly craving chive pockets (jiucai hezi) and this was the only place I found that had the item aside from the big dim sum places and I wanted a more low-key meal. The restaurant is bright and spacious inside and was decently populated when we arrived but there were plenty of tables - in fact, our server moved us from a two-top to a four-top because we "ordered a lot," haha. Service was good overall. The two of us ordered chive pockets, scallion pancakes, fried beef dumplings, and steamed fish dumplings; they of course have the more classic pork dumplings but given their more extensive dumpling menu I wanted to try some of the more uncommon ones. Overall, I'd say the food was just fine. The chive pockets satisfied my hankering but I do wish they had more egg and glass noodle to balance out the texture, and the way they were partially but not completely cut in half made them a bit hard to pick up and eat. The two dumpling orders were alright, with a thick chewier skin that I didn't mind though I know some prefer more delicate skins. The scallion pancake was also alright - they were pretty thin and chewy with just a bit of crisp, similar to how I'd make them at home, though when I get them at restaurants I personally prefer them more puffy and deeply-fried. The sweet scallion pancake dip did make for a good dumpling dip though. Prices were somewhat more expensive than other places I've had similar food, though I guess it goes towards the more extensive dumpling menu and the full table service and it's still not expensive. Overall, a solid place to satisfy a dumpling craving or get an easy Chinatown meal without being overwhelmed by a bigger menu, but nothing really wowed me. Maybe I'd come back to try the soup dumplings next time since I didn't have those. read more

Spontaneously stumbled upon the newest soup dumpling place in Chinatown after getting bubble tea from my favorite place - chi San. I read an inquirer article saying how this was a Michelin recommended restaurant and would be open soon! I think it's been opened only a couple weeks when we stopped in! No wait when we got there, no reservations needed but it filled up quickly. Ambience is nice, clean and spacious. Waitstaff were super friendly and spoke English. We ended up at a table where the HVAC had water condensation dripping on us but they were quick to offer us a different table, we declined and just kept the food away from the water drops lol. Since it was just 2 of us, couldn't order as much as we would have me wanted but we tried! The piggy custard buns were delish - maybe a little more custard and it would have been perfect. The scallion pancakes were meh. Interesting they tasted like a mix between scallion pancakes and naan - I prefer the super crispy version and this one was softer. The soup dumplings were the star of the show! We sadly only got one order and chose the snow crab and pork ones, sooooooo good! The dough is lighter, the broth and filling were well seasoned and tasty - would have liked just a bit more broth and it would also have been perfect. Had a very satisfying meal here. The dumplings were delicious. I tried the boiled and pan-fried dumplings, and I like the boiled ones better. The pan-fried ones looked smaller than in the picture, and the filling was a bit too salty for me. The boiled dumplings were perfect though. The dumpling skin was just the right thickness (not too thick, but also not wonton-wrapper-thin), and the filling was flavorful and juicy. There were probably 1-2 shrimp pieces in each filling. The scallion pancake was also so good. It was flaky (like a roti) and really not too greasy, which I appreciate because scallion pancakes usually are really greasy. They were very fragrant and just made perfectly. The beef tendon was also good. It had a good chew, and wasn't cooked down too much, which is how I like it. It was on the saltier side though. The mushroom meat noodles weren't bad, but probably my least favorite thing out of everything we ordered. Everything else was just really good. The mushroom mix was a bit sour (and not from the picked mustard). The noodles were a bit overcooked and a little bit too thick for my liking. The clear broth it came with was fragrant, light, and comforting though. Would love to return. Food was delicious and satisfying. Out of everything, my favorites were the boiled dumplings and scallion pancakes. Service was great, and atmosphere was clean and calm (they were playing some jazz music surprisingly). The main dining room has a better vibe, as the side dining room has a view of the bathrooms and the water station. Overall, we wished the pan-fried dumplings had been browned a little longer. The pan-fried chicken dumplings lacked seasoning and had a strange flavor that made us wonder if we'd received an order of the fish dumplings. All you need is a good mix of hot chili oil, soy sauce, and a bit of vinegar to bring out more flavor in the dumplings. I also had the beef noodle soup. The broth was light and refreshing, and the noodles were perfectly chewy. If you prefer a stronger flavor, you can add hot chili oil and soy sauce. Close to 3.5 stars. We went to Luscious Dumplings over the weekend. We ordered a few appetizers like marinated lotus root, wood ear mushrooms, and broccoli salad. All of them are pretty good. For the main dish, we had the stewed beef rice bowl which is excellent, the beef is tender and well seasoned. However, the pan-fried chicken dumplings are kind of soggy, and steamed snow crab and pork soup buns taste a little stale. It is a little disappointing that as a dumplings house, their dumplings are not that good, probably the same level as the frozen dumplings you get at the super market.
