We recently dined at Dan Dan in Ardmore, PA with my wife, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Okay Chinese food, but would be great for large parties. Came here for lunch on a workday and had no problem being sat. Our waiter was very sweet and quick. Two of us shared the hand ripped noodles and an order of wonton in soup. Both dishes were fine but not that impressive. There's much better Chinese food in center city Philly (of course), and for the price, I'd rather go somewhere else. Overall, wouldn't really come back, but also wouldn't turn it down if someone else was enthusiastic. read more

Been trying some places in Ardmore and Dan Dan was next on my list. I parked in the parking garage and walked over. Upon walking up I noticed they have outdoor seating as well. Since this was a solo mission I decided to dine inside. Walked in a they have a huge full bar. The decor is cutesy and modern. They even have like a sun room for dining as well. It was empty for lunch time. I was seated and given my menu's. Alex was my server he was great, very attentive and suggestive, I asked if there was a lunch menu he said no just smaller portions like appetizers. He stated the regular entrees were pretty big definitely enough to have take home. I wasn't interested in a huge meal so I got the turmeric wings, chicken & shrimp Shumai, spring rolls, and a matcha lemonade. So the wings reminded me of corner store Chinese wings but bland no other seasonings. The Shumai was ok but felt like I was eating some kind of wrapped meatball, tasted like pork but he assured me it was chicken and shrimp. The spring rolls delicious .. came out blazing hot. The matcha lemonade was great, just could have been bigger. I wanted the string beans but didn't want to pay $20 for veggies. I also want to try the Dan Dan noodles but only options I saw on the menu were pork and tofu. They should really consider lunch options and get some people in here during lunch. I was craving Don Dan noodles, and my husband stumbled across this location in Ardmore! We've tried Dan Dan in Wayne (not affiliated I think), but we remember the noodles being pretty spicy. This location was able to tone down the spice. The flavor and texture of the noodles were great. We also ordered the wonton and chili oil with less spice and that was perfect. The service and ambiance here were great. We sat outside since it was a nice day out. We did notice there were a lot of servers and had someone new deliver our dishes or take away our dishes each time. People whose opinions I respect give Dan Dan high marks. Was I missing something three years ago? Maybe. So we returned. And well .... my assessment hasn't changed by much. We ordered 'Happy Madison Chicken Wonton Soup" because we liked the name. The broth was spicy, the dumplings doughy and bland. Two thumbs up for eggplant and garlic sauce. Same with double cooked chicken, though it could use more chicken. My daughter suggested "Spicy Beef Hand Ripped Noodles." The noodles were perfect. The beef, soft and fatty. (After one bite S and I pawned our pieces off on my husband, who's a good sport!) Dan Dan is sleek and upscale. They've got a great outdoor area, which apparently requires a reservation, unless you agree to sit at a large communal table. I favor hole-in-the -wall Chinese restaurants, with great food and little ambience. When I don't feel like taking SEPTA to Chinatown, I'll likely stick with the lesser-known restaurant across City Avenue. Dan Dan is okay, but there are better. read more

Dan Dan is my "Safe and reliable" Chinese restaurant and I mean that in a good way too. They're not too spicy but not so generalized that it loses its authenticity. They step a bit further out towards more traditional dishes like Three Cup Chicken and Dan Dan Noodles (both are fantastic by the way) while still having some of the classics like Fried Rice. The service is always great and attentive and the ambiance is nice, but not too nice. Perhaps not the most authentic place in the world, but it's enough to get 5 stars from me. What you didn't come for: - Water: The water is clean and filtered - Restrooms: There are two single occupancy restrooms - Accessibility: The entire restaurant is wheelchair accessible - Seating: Plenty of seating options, I don't think I've ever seen the place so full that you'd have to wait long. - Will it fill you up? Yes and then some. Each entree can be shared between two people so long as you ask for the white rice (which is free) - Gluten Free/Allergies: They are pretty solid with a massive gluten free menu and the Dan Dan Noodles don't use peanuts (which is unusual for them -- they usually have peanuts). For my birthday, I invited 10 of my friends to indulge in DanDan with me. We ordered scallion pancakes, DanDan noodles, bunapi mushrooms, vegetarian mapo tofu, flying fish, chicken dry pot, and tofu dry pot. Because we had a large number of gas, we sat at the oval table. It would be nice if there was a Lazy Susan on the table to easily access the dishes, but I'm just happy they had a round table. Service was very attentive and helpful. They even aided in bringing out the birthday cake that my friend graciously crafted for me! I always enjoy my experience at DanDan and often recommend the bunapi mushrooms to anyone I meet. My partner and I dropped into Dan Dan for a late dinner today. We ordered the vegetarian green beans and stir fried dry pot with beef. Both dishes were hot and had authentic flavors that paralleled what I've had in China before. On a personal taste, I wish the dishes were slightly less salty, docking off a star. The food is very flavorful with some pretty traditional dishes. The only dish I didn't really like was the cucumbers which were pretty sweet tasting and not what I expected. The string beans are a must get! So addictive and delicious. I also really enjoyed the Dan Dan noodles and my friends enjoyed the biang biang noodles. Was looking for restaurants to dine at near Ardmore and ultimately decided to order out. The photos of the food looked delicious and the photos of the restaurant are gorgeous. Since I got takeout I couldn't experience the atmosphere of the place therefore my experience was just with the food. The prices on uber eats are grossly inflated compared to their menu. I ordered the house noodles because it came with chicken pork and shrimp and looked good in the photos plus for the price of $23 + I thought this seemed like the best value for the cost compared to what you got. I got a bowl of noodles, which I now from photos on Yelp , can tell looks pretty plain - fine , I'm okay with plain. But plain noodles with toppings. Not mixed in just on top. I got six measly pieces of what looked like frozen shrimp that got thrown on top as an afterthought, because although the noodles were plain , they still had the slightest flavor from at least the oils they were cooked in. The shrimp weren't seasoned and didn't even taste like they were cooked in the sauce. Not sure if the dish is just different because I got takeout but when they charge you more for takeout $23 compared to $17 - I would expect quality. Also ordered the dumplings in chili oil and there was a weird spice I wasn't expecting. Also not sure if there was 8 pcs which is what it said came with the order. Definitely a let down and if this is the quality they also serve inside the restaurant I'm glad I didn't dine in because I would have been disappointed. I guess don't let pretty restaurant photos fool you or in this case any real photos. Hopefully mine help other people. read more

They will open their windows by the bar when it's warm so folks can walk up from outside to sit and grab a drink. Anywho their happy hour menu was one to beat. I decided to try their bartender's choice cocktail which was their "Where's Samantha?" Lit. Tried their turmeric wings. Lit. Those drunken noodles? LIT! I didn't even order them, I ended up stealing my wife's order because...what's yours is mine? Chicken pot stickers...Litty! Went here for dinner the other evening and loved it. All of the dishes we ordered were delicious. We went with both meat eaters as well as vegetarians and vegans and everyone was happy. The restaurant is in the middle of the area with seating outside and inside. Bar area, too, and atrium indoor. Floor was sticky when we arrived at first open (11a) - guess they just finished wiping it down? Anyway, ordered: * Chicken lo mein - solid, good portion, but salty * Salt pepper chicken - a little too much flour or coating, meat was a bit metallic tasting, and lacked much pepper/salt flavor (especially after you eat other salty dishes). * Hakka-Style Sauteed Pork, Pressed Tofu, and Dried Squid - I liked this dish, not too heavy on the sa-cha sauce, though very salty still. Overall big portions, we didn't finish them but we took it home to eat. The service was a bit gappy- a lot of times the server disappeared into the back and we didn't see her for a while. Dan Dan stands out as a uniquely good restaurant. I'll admit, this was more of an adventure for me because I'm limited in my knowledge of Asian cuisine outside of maybe Chinese take out, sushi, and a recent introduction to dim sum. However, at first I was little intimidated by the menu. However, our server was extremely patient and helpful with our party of 12. The scallion pancakes were superb. I've had them at other places, but these are amazing. The suggestion of the chicken wings was a pleasant surprise. Really good. And how can you not have Dan Dan noodles? Spice was on point and balanced. The 3 cup chicken in presentation was good, but in flavor and taste was great. Everything I tasted was flavorful. But the restaurant itself beautiful. We had a delicious lunch today before a management team offsite at LifeTime work. DanDan is conveniently located right across from LifeTime Fitness and there is lots of parking (usually) in Suburban Square. The restaurant is quiet and well laid out including a lovely atrium in the middle with plenty of natural light and plants. Our group of four ordered the scallion pancakes (excellent), tamarind chicken wings (very good, hard to go wrong with fried chicken wings), cold cucumber (little too oily for me so I'd pass on this next time, I like the ones I make better), pork wonton soup (very good, eight won tons in a light chicken broth for the four of us to share), fried brussels sprouts (very good and a large portion). That was just to start! For our entrees we ordered the ginger scallion fish on a bed of bok choy and the cumin lamb hand ripped noodles and that was the winning selection! Large portions and both were well executed - the combination of the spicy lamb noodles with the delicate flavors of the ginger scallion fish made for a very well complemented meal. This was the best meal I've had at Dan Dan to date (I actually do not prefer their dandan noodles, ironically). I'll definitely order the fish and cumin lamb noodles again, and the scallion pancakes - those are the standout winners for me! read more

Had this for takeout. Our recent food coma included: Dan Dan Noodles - Their take is a bit less peanutty and less spicy than Han Dynasty's. Comes with minced pork, though not a lot. Pretty good once stirred. Cumin Lamb Hand Ripped Noodles - Thick ripped noodles with a delicious shimmer of spices. The cumin lamb was tasty. Spicy Crispy Noodles with Pressed Tofu - My wife had this and said the sauce was really good. Dry Pepper Chicken - Crispy morsels of chicken with peppercorns and long Chinese pepper shells to have the chicken absorb the flavor. Spicy good in small doses. A-Ma Ginger Shrimp Fried Rice - Tasty shrimp, egg, and berries in fried rice. Jing Jiang Pork - Shredded Pork in black bean sauce with shredded scallions on top. Difficult to find outside of Philly Chinatown although it's a simple dish. Basic but really good. Not spicy. Ordering and Pickup- I called in my order and was given an estimate of 30-40 minutes. My food was ready when I arrived. The host stand was busy but efficient and I was out quickly. Parking- Suburban Square Parking Garage is free and was a short walk to Dan Dan. Would definitely use the garage next time here. Public Transit - Across from Ardmore train station. Near several Septa buses. Overall Impressions - Nice courtyard area with outdoor seating. Came to Dan Dan for my older brother's birthday celebration in late Jan. Very spacious spot, with a bar seating area, and a larger dining room. There was a wee bit of an initial seating faux pas, as we were a party of 7, and, in at a not super busy time, with larger tables available, they sat us at a 3x3 booth plus a rando chair. With it being sub-freezing day, with all our coats...would be a bit tight. So we asked if we could move to a larger vacant table - which they were fine with, but...an unnecessary obstacle. But, onward and upward to the eats! We played this mostly family style (because, as the song goes, we are family), so the basic rundown/synopsis of the eats goes like: Beef and Tripe in Chili Oil - thin sliced beef & tripe tossed in chili oil and crushed peanuts: My brother really wanted to try this and I've always been a fan of tripe, so I'm damn glad he did because this was delicious. Really nice kick to it, but wasn't overwhelming (and as much as I love some heat, I have a pretty low tolerance before full-blown schvitzing). Wontons in Chili Oil - pork-filled wontons in a black vinegar & chili oil sauce: going with the theme that everything is better in chili oil, what's really not to like about this dish? Wontons. Chili oil. ....yum. Turmeric Fried Chicken Wings - turmeric battered chicken wings, fried and served with a side of house dry pepper rub: these were fine, though I suppose the numerous reviews/recommendations had set expectations a little high. Fine, fairly unique, but...with as diverse a menu as they have, could explore elsewhere. Sichuan Prime Rib Tips - prime rib tips sauteed with long hot peppers, bell peppers, onions, Sichuan peppercorn, and bok choy. Super tender meat, good amount of bok choy to 'healthy' out a somewhat decadent outing. Definitely a pleaser for those weary of the spiciness. Spicy Aromatic Pot - a mixture of enoki and wood ear mushrooms, onion, bamboo shoots, dry pepper, cauliflower, bell peppers, sesame, potato, and five-spice, stir-fried in a flaming wok. I was actually fairly tolerance of the spice level (I'm a schvitzer), but regardless, this is one super satisfying dish; hearty, delicious, yum. Lamb Hotpot - super flavorful, pretty spicy, but not too bad - just enough to have you craving more! Also be sure to leave some room for dessert, because who doesn't like fried ice cream?! read more

We had someone in our group with allergy to lentils, soy, protein of all kinds, green peas, tomatoes, sesame. So we had brought in outside food which just for the kid and the rest of us (14 people) were ordering dinner in the restaurant. As per policy they don't permit outside food. The main guy manager whose name I don't know ( wears a cap, bearded, plaid shirt) was EXTREMELY RUDE. He didn't want to offer any solutions. He also yelled he didn't have time for us. He also stated that he would " throw " the food that was already cooked at our table. This is unacceptable and again left a bad taste for all in our party. He walked away in a huff. Another lady possibly his supervisor / co manager thankfully, came along, explained the rules, and offered a viable solution in an allergen free environment which we were able to accept. Food has never been an issue. Service was slow and poor. Waters were not refilled. Rice didn't accompany mains. Being in the service industry - he needs more training with knowing how to deal with people and with anger management. Overall very poor experience. The Wayne Dan Dan is much better. Do yourself a favor and head there ( about 15 min away from Ardmore). read more

Okay Dan Dan is super cute aesthetically pleasing Thai restaurant in Ardmore. Let's start with the food, if you're a lover of Sichuan style foods then you have to try this place. My favorite dish on the menu is their dry pepper dishes and the cumin lamb 9/10 every time. They have so Many other options to choose from and their portions are huge, great to share. Their drinks are also amazing, from their non alcoholic drinks to their cocktails and juices. My favorite has to be the pomegranate lychee lemonade and their homemade ginger ale 10/10! This place would be a great option for a cute little date night too!
