Let me start by saying that the food was really good, it was the service that made this experience less than ideal. I hope that in a few weeks I can come back and give an updated 5 star review, but for now my suggestions is do take-out only. My partner and I sat down and ordered through a QR code. We got a few dishes and both got a specialty drink. We could see they were very busy with take-out orders, so were ready to wait a bit for our food and drinks. After an hour of waiting, we still had no water, no drinks, no food, no plates, no napkins, nothing. The line for take out was so long that guests were waiting right up against our table for the entire evening, which made the night feel crowded and awkward. The dishes were extremely scattered to come out. Our first dish of pumpkin buns only came out with two when the menu said we would have four. The server dropped it and ran off so fast we didn't even have a chance to bring it up. We didn't see her again until 30 minutes later when she brought our scallion pancakes, which she also quickly put on the table and had to run back to the take-out counter. Over all, it took an hour and a half to get all our food (pumpkin buns, scallion pancakes, veggie dumplings, and a tofu dish). We also had to get up and ask the server for water. She was just so busy that she only ever came around to our table to drop off food, so we never got water to start or once the food was brought to us. By the time we had finished eating we had been there for 2 hours and were READY to leave. The place was packed with take out orders the entire time and we were upset to have spent a date night in a cramped dinging area with our table being butt-height to all the guests waiting for their food. We had to get up again to flag down the server to get our check and make sure she took off the drinks that we never received. And for the icing on the cake, the take out containers we were given were dirty. So we had to flag her down AGAIN to get a clean one. I feel terrible leaving such a negative review for a new business. The food was so good, but it felt like a wasted evening sitting there all night. If you are craving dim sum I'd recommend ordering take out, but wait at least an hour after you place the order to even leave your house to get it. Some people were waiting for their food to go just as long as we were.

The food is amazing! So fresh and authentic tasting! The service (I think the owners) is fantastic! I definitely recommend the Crystal dumplings and hibachi fried rice! The chili oil was the perfect spice level too! Thank you, I will be back!

I ordered kung pao chicken to go. And let me tell you, I am a kung pao chicken snob. But Dim Sum had some of the BEST kung pao I've ever had. I will definitely be coming back to try other items on the menu. It was also reasonably priced. Parking is limited but what else would you expect in manayunk.

Server was friendly & let us take quite a minute to figure out what we wanted. Ordered 5 dishes to split and eveything tasted amazing and came out quickly, there were no leftovers. We will be coming back again its a great little neighborhood spot!

Came here for dinner and it was amazing!!! We got the scallion pancake with beef and edamame (forgot to take pic) and then got the beef fried rice, pork buns and chicken in brown. Everything tasted truly fantastic and the service was great! Will be returning, without a doubt!

Good thing this place opened because every Asian place around here is pretty trash and as my wife put it, "damn this place is f****** good". So yeah eat here if you want, I don't care.

4.5 stars rounded up…read more Though I had but a small sampling of Nom Wah's extensive dim sum offerings, I liked what I tasted: -- Stuffed Peppers ($5.95): loved the textural contrast of crispy pepper & springy shrimp paste; a shallow pool of savory brown sauce served as the base. -- Pan-Fried Chicken & Cabbage Dumplings ($5.50): crisp wrapping encase a substantial & juicy filling. -- Shrimp Rice Rolls ($5.95): wasn't the best version I've ever consumed, but I appreciated the delicate noodle wrapper. I do prefer the shrimp to be more plump & flavorful, & my favorite ones tend to have sauces other than soy to drizzle on. My trio of items were a steal at barely $20. Nom Wah is an excellent pick for quality dim sum at rock-bottom prices. I arrived early to a mostly-empty restaurant which allowed their staff to be extra attentive. The waiter described what sauces & dishes he was placing on my table, & the waitress offered to fill my water bottle before I left, as it was a 90° day. A lovely first impression!

The sticky rice in leaf had a good consistency although small with minimal ingredients. The shrimp dumplings are a staple but maybe too much flour which made the outer layer too doughy and chewy. The pork dumplings are good although smaller and tasted more like the frozen variety. Service was slow although there was only one waitress for the several tables. She did fill my water but I had to ask. And seemed to be somewhat frugal when I asked for extra napkins and only received ONE?!? She did come back later and gave me one additional napkin without being prompted. The biggest advantage for this place is it offered shrimp rolls but there are many other options available nearby.

We ended up having to move another table that had just seated to get our preferred table sizes next to each other, but the staff accommodated it with some back-and-forth. Once we were there, there were carts going around. Enough to be regularly getting food without being too interrupted, but would have liked to have a few more options every once in a while. We also requested some Chinese broccoli early on in the meal, but it came out pretty close to the end. Seems like a la carte orders are not handled in a timely way during dimsum hours. Otherwise, dimsum food is standard quality, as good as expected, but nothing too wow-ing. Solid for the price and the vibes. It ain't too fancy here, but a solid choice for dimsum if you're craving it.

Food is ok, has certainly decreased in quality after COVID and is more expensive. There are other dim sum places within a few blocks that are much better quality. As others have said, the situation with their staff demanding 15-20% tip has made it so I will not come here again. A tip is not legally required. It is only legally required to cover the cost of your food as stated on the bill. I think the BBB needs to be contacted to investigate their practices surrounding tips and almost harassing customers into paying more than they wish. In addition, they have loud trucks every day disrupting the quiet street behind. Many elderly live there and are woken up by the loud beeping from the truck alarms, as well as trash truck coming VERY early and waking up residents. No consideration for those who live right there. I will be contacting the city about this issue as there was a similar problem in Fishtown and now that restaurant is no longer allowed to have trucks outside of reasonable hours disturbing residents. The trucks are also TOO large to safely turn into their loading station and people park their SUVs making the space even smaller. They constantly case a problem with traffic blockages because of the trucks unable to turn into the loading dock.

This place immediately came to mind after I read the reviews, and I ordered takeout tonight. I am very pleased to say that this was an amazing experience! I opted to do fairly simple dim sum, mainly because a restaurant that has "dim sum" in its name should shine in this category. I was able to place my order online, and had the scallion pancake, the pork, soup, dumplings, the chicken and shiitake dumplings, and the shrimp shu mai. The order was prepared, extremely fast, but very attentively. The packaging was thoughtful and protective, without being wasteful. They included a small container of delicious black vinegar/soy for dipping, and some chopsticks. All of the dishes were fantastic! My favorite was probably the shrimp dumplings, and I was happy that it was two for one night. Everything tasted very fresh and well-made. The seasoning was spot on, without being overly salty. My only regret was that after going to pick these up, I noted that the inside of the establishment appeared to be quite quaint and comfortable, and would definitely recommend that people check this place out for dine in options. The staff were very friendly, and made the pick up experience a positive one. So, if you're in the area and really want to have some dim sum, I would definitely recommend this place. I will most definitely be back in the future!!

Food came out quickly but food temperature was very inconsistent. The eggplant was piping hot whereas the ribs were barely warm. Flavor wise, I'd say our favorites were the eggplant dish and crystal shrimp dumpling. I'd pass on getting the pan fried dumplings again. They were more like small bao buns and there was barely any filling inside. The steamed pork dumplings and ribs were good and I'd get both again. Service was unfriendly and our waitress never spoke to us directly which was weird. She tossed 2 menus on a table to let us know where to sit and then arrived with her iPad to take our order.
