This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. They're a staple. Food is delicious, and in my opinion, a bit more traditional flavored rather than most "american flavored" chinese restaurants. Dumplings were great, General Tso's has a good balance of sweet and spicy, good boneless spare ribs and Lo Mein too! service is always quick when i go to pick up my food. almost always pickup or delivery, there aren't many places to sit and eat. have always been a fan of the vibes. The orange chicken special with pork fried rice and an egg roll wasn't bad. The restaurant was super cute and I liked the vibe. I especially appreciated the koi tank and pictures on the walls. The staff is friendly and the service was good. I really wanted to give Ruby a higher rating but the chicken wasn't spicy, the rice was a bit overdone, and it was a little too greasy for my taste. food wasnt great. ordered chicken egg foo young, egg drop soup, and pork fried rice. waited in the restaurant for almost 50 minutes and wasnt given food until i bothered them multiple times. seemed like they had forgotten about my order. at least 6 people came and left with food while i was waiting. the chicken egg foo young was burnt, the egg drop soup had a strange taste. the pork fried rice was ok. over all, not great and a little pricey for the quality. i enjoyed the art on the walls and the seating area was decent. read more

Tasty and surprisingly not greasy or over salted. Ordering for delivery was easy. I haven't been here for a couple of years so not sure how it is inside anymore. The food was still hot on arrival and all items were packaged well. No spills. We had shrimp lo mein, shrimp foo young, BBQ ribs, shrimp fried rice with wings and shrimp rolls. All pretty good. Been a faithful customer since literally the late 1980's. Had two issues in ALL those decades but ordering almost weekly and loving every last thing I get is worth 5 stars and not mentioning the two issues I had. Their food is amazing, I like the lady who takes the orders on the phone, and they always give me extra if the things I want like giner sauce, duck sauce etc. And btw, I know they would surely fix any issue you may have if you have one. I have loved them for many years. To be honest they go above and beyond. If something was not up to par they would make an exchange for you within 10 min n without any judgement. Have you ever seen the movie Oldboy? There is a scene where a prisoner is fed wontons for twenty solid years in a row every day or weekly (watch the film- its a good one). He later escapes and in order to find clues to find the people that incarcerated him searches out for the same wonton he has been eating all those years. Well folks, I too have been searching out the best wonton in all the land! Under very different scenarios mind you but Eureka it has been found!! The hunan wontons are the key detailed in picture below. What a tasty fried wonton with o such delicous meat inside. They are bathed quite lavishly in hunan sauce but you can always drain out the excess sauce that pools at the bottom of the container. I also tried the Seafood Wor Ba soup. I would most compare this soup to an egg drop soup but with shrimp, pieces of imitation crab cut up, tiny pieces of losbter? or is this some form of crawfish? You got me... The soup is a nice alternative choice from the run of the mill soups from most chinese take out restaurants but I would not rush back to order it. Lastly, I ordered the General Tso's Shrimp. There is a ton of sauce on these but I feel like this is the norm in all chinese restaurants plow the sauce on because that's what American's want? The Shrimp itself are very good if you can find a piece not drenched in sauce or ask for the sauce on the side. Well there it is...try the hunan wontons. This is my second visit to this restaurant this week. It speaks volumes since I'm quite particular about authentic cultural foods. My first visit was random. I had a taste for Chinese food so I knew I would get it but where. I've visited a few places in the Roxborough/Manayunk area and it was decent. I was at Target and I saw the bright red lights that spoke to me...come into Ruby Chinese Restaurant so I immediately yelled it. It didn't have the best reviews or the four star minimum that I like to use to gage whether or not I'd patronize that business. Needless to say it was three stars but I was right here. I took a chance The best chance I've taken in a while. I order the shrimp fried rice with extra shrimp times two for $2 extra. It was delicious and fresh. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and the rice was tender yet firm. I have decided it's the best shrimp friend rice ever and I've decided this will be my go to Chinese restaurant. Come by and try for yourself. Today I'm getting beef and broccoli but instead of steamed rice, I'm going with, you got it, shrimp fried rice with an egg roll to top it off. I spoke too soon, my food came out wrong of course they remade it but now my rice and egg roll wasn't hot ugh... I just had her give me a fresh egg roll cause I don't have time to wait for fresh shrimp fried rice despite me paying extra. Pretty descent food here. It's great if you are feeling lazy, pick up takeouts from here. I feel like all of their food taste somewhat same (as if, their foods are based from same paste or something). I get that using same sauce for everything increases efficiency and decreases time but what's the point of having multiple menus? I recommend trying here once in a blue moon. read more

While I haven't had a chance to try the food, I've had two poor customer service situations with them regarding deliveries. First time was on a weekend. I placed an order through Yelp for delivery. I received a call almost an hour after my order to say, "We're too busy for delivery tonite, you have to cancel your order." I called EatStreet (since they are the provider) and told them I had to cancel and the issue. The customer service person was very helpful and said the restaurants are supposed to contact them to cancel, not the customer. Tonite, I placed an order for delivery at 7:02pm through Yelp again. I received my two confirmation e-mails for my order a couple of minutes later. Now at 7:30pm, the restaurant calls and I was told, "Sorry, you're too far for delivery. You're 15 minutes away and a 30 minute delivery trip is too much. We have to cancel your order." Honestly, this is ridiculous. I don't see how a 15 minute delivery is too far and I'd even be willing to accept a, "Hey, this is usually too far, so we can deliver this time but can't in the future." read more

I stumbled upon this place today and decided to give it a try. The small restaurant in a shopping area turned out to be just what I was looking for for 2 years now in a Chinese restaurant. The shrimp in garlic sauce was exquisite. It is a very clean and friendly place and the woman who took my takeout order was so friendly and helpful. I will return here when I'm seeking a great American/Chinese quick and delicious meal. I went to this Chinese restaurant on a nasty winter day due to the location being in the Ivy Ridge Shopping Center. Also, (it's located right next to the wine store lol). I got the beef and broccoli lunch special with wonton soup. The wonton was good and hit the spot for a cold winters night however, it came with only two flimsy wontons where most other restaurants offer more and include sliced meat for extra flavor. The beef and broccoli was not good or fresh. The beef tasted like mystery meat and broccoli was soggy and tasted like leftovers. I will never go here again. I like my Chinese food fresh and tasty. read more

Ordered takeout the other night because there weren't many choices on Grub Hub. I forgot why we stopped going here years ago. What we received were basically the same dishes, and bunch of peppers, carrots, and broccoli in slightly different sauces. The General Tso chicken was pretty much the same as the Oyster Chicken, a ton of vegetables and not much chicken. Deliver took well over an hour, and we are only a few blocks away. I'm going to pass on this one going forward. They've really gone downhill since their first opening. read more

Ruby's is the only decent chinese place in the Roxborough area, aside from my fav Han Dynasty on Main St in Manayunk. The lunch specials are all reasonanle prices and the wait time on food averages about 15 mins or so. I love the chicken w/cashew nuts. It comes with green peppers, carrots, onions and water chestnuts in a savory sauce. The lunch special is accompanied by a wonton soup and pork fried rice. If you don't eat pork, make sure to specify this!! Usually the orders are pretty accurate, but today, sadly... my lunch special was missing my soup and also my fried wontons and duck sauce. It was too late into my lunch break to go back and get the rest of my food. So- moral of the story is... check your food! read more

Ruby ( when did they change it from "New Ruby"? ) is my favorite american chinese place in the area. It's certainly not fancy, but the food is delicious and the prices are more than fair. We usually order take out, and the food is always ready for pick up when we expect it to be. In particular I love the chicken lo mein and the wonton soup. The quart of lo mein is more than enough to feed two people, but I like to save some for leftovers later on. The general tso's chicken and beef with broccoli are also delicious. Ruby's is a solid, neighborhood Chinese take out restaurant! This is my go-to spot for take out Chinese food. We have probably tried more than 10 different dishes off their menu, and they were all well prepared and tasty. Customer service is good. Tip: don't expect to eat inside the restaurant and make sure to call your order well in advanced (30 mins). As I am currently carless, permanently lazy, and forever a glutton, I consider Chinese delivery one of the greatest culinary services known to mankind. And as a new resident of Manayunk, I feel it my civic duty to bequeath unto my neighbors the results of my explorations. I've been up and down Chinatown in the city so I've had my fair share of both American and traditional Chinese cuisine, and I find Ruby to be decent. The food is solid; protein-to-random vegetable ratio is good (although I have yet to see if they pass my shrimp and broccoli test, as most restaurants will give you a maximum of four pieces of shrimp). It's a little pricier than the places that I'm used to, about $8-9 for the dinner combination that comes with an egg roll and not even a drink. But again, it tastes alright and the dishes I ordered (General Tso's [not as sweet, a little spicier] and beef & broccoli) were satisfying. Now I know Manayunk is a bit of a pain to get around, what with the one-way streets and all, but it took about 50 minutes for the food to be delivered. Being new to the area we ordered from Ruby in our quest to find tasty Chinese food in the area and we found we hit the bulls eye with this fine establishment. The food was absolutely superb with not one dish we ordered disappointing us. Our favorite was the spare ribs which were cooked to perfection in a very tasty bbq sauce. The fried rice was excellent as well, cooked perfectly and with right color and consistency that added to the eye appeal of the dish. I could go on and on with how happy we were with the service, prompt delivery, and our happiness with the other items we ordered. This place makes Chinese food the way it should be, I haven't found a place that makes Chinese food this good in years. It has made moving to the area all the more of a success. A note about pricing, the old saying you get what you pay for does apply here. The price point is higher than your average Chinese take-out joint, but with that you get ingredients and service that is superior to that you would expect of a corner take-out place that may be priced more modestly. To me the price difference is small and inconsequential compared to the level of food you get, but to some of the college students that live in the area, they me see it as a more challenging price point as I probably would have all those years ago when I was struggling with college finances. read more

We moved around the corner from this restaurant and this is my experience. The first problem I had was while I was pregnant, I ordered beef on a stick(as I have multiple times before because it was my pregnancy go to) I walked over to get it and walked back home. When I got home I saw that not even half of the stick had beef of it. Each one has maybe 1/3 meat on it(as I said I ordered before and it had more then half of the stick covered with meat every time) so I called to tell them. There exact words were "this is the way we make it, you don't order beef on stick no more" ignorant owners, lazy cookers. I ordered from here another time when I was very sick with a newborn, so I couldn't walk over to pickup food so I had it delivered. It's literally a minute drive. Right down the street so you would think the delivery person would be appreciative it was a easy drive. Nope ! It took an hour to get to me, I had 15$ in cash and the meal was 14$ but I wasn't going to tip a 1$ I found that rude. So I politely asked the guy did he have change for a 100$. He said "ugh no I don't I can take it into the store though and bring you change" Like sir you are not gunna take my money and I'm not gunna just trust you to bring back. So I said no that's fine I'll call the restaurant and give them my card number, so he rolled his us said "what the fuck bro" and started walking back to his car. I called the restaurant and said he was ignorant but they didn't care they just said ok card number, so I gave it to them. I hang up and go back outside. He's in his car. Sees me and drives away. Not giving me my phone. I watch him pull into the shopping center (that's how close my house is) and stop in front of the restaurant. I call and tell them he didn't give me my food. She says ok I'll call him he'll be coming back. Why he left I have no clue. 20 minutes later he brings food back and leave on porch. I will never ever order anything from these awful ignorant disrespectful lazy people again read more
