Came here for a family meal and was immediately surprised when we walked in. The inside was super cute and much more elevated than a traditional Chinese restaurant. The menu had authentic items along with craft drinks and cocktails (of course elevated prices as well - welcome to the main line). However, our food and service were pretty inconsistent. Our pumpkin seafood tofu soup literally tasted like murky water. My MIL, who literally never cooks with salt and thinks everything in the world is salty, had to pour in some salt into the soup. It was by far the worst Chinese soup I've ever had. On the flip side, our shrimp was amazing and probably the best we've ever had. Our twice cooked fish had some slices of insanely inedibly salty pieces while some slices were perfect. Even our service was inconsistent - our server was nice, but definitely forgot to put in our takeout order at the end of our meal (we ordered and he came back 15 mins later to clarify our order) so we ended up waiting an additional 35 minutes. No one came to clear our plates or offer water for a really long time. Overall, I know this place is relatively new, so I'm hoping these were just opening minor issues that'll get ironed out soon. WOW! Dan Dan by far has some of the tastiest and spiciest food in town! 5 stars all the way around. We went for happy hour and ordered the chicken pot stickers, chili oil dumplings and pork buns for appetizers with yummy entrees to follow. The ambiance was beautiful and unique. As you walk in you are welcomed by a kind and attentive host. You are first introduced to the bar and lounge area and then you walk through the conservatory; to follow you enter the main dining room. The conservatory is a nice place to sit and dine should they have the availability but it's so close to the main dining room both are great options. Overall, the food here was really 10/10. Overall good experience! We came here for dinner on a date night. We made a reservation, but it didn't seem needed on a Sunday night. Plenty of open seats. We choose to sit in the conservatory and it was a little warm, so next time we will probably choose to sit in the main dining room. The food was all around amazing! We started with the pork soup dumplings that were delicious! We had the spicy beef hand pulled noodles, the ginger scallion chicken with bok choy, and the fried Brussel sprouts! The noodles were incredible. Probably the highlight of the meal. The chicken was good, however the bok choy was very bland. The Brussel sprouts were also a highlight! The one part of the meal that was great was the service. Our waiter came by to give us water, and didn't say hello or introduce himself. We did not realize he was the waiter until he came back to take our order. Didn't wait long for the food but was just a weird experience with that waiter. Overall, we will be back! Came here on a Sunday for a late lunch and it was pretty empty inside and outside. I was excited to try the newer location - the menu looks to be the same at all of the Dan Dan locations. The food came out insanely quick (almost a little too quick) and was exactly how I expected it. I would rank the Dan Dan locations in this order for both food and service: 1) Center City, 2) Ardmore, 3) Wayne. I love me some Dan Dan. This is the spot for some spice. Sichuan and Taiwanese food and they don't hold back. Our favorites are the Scallion Shrimp, Ginger Shredded Duck, Long Hot Beef, the Dry Pepper Chicken. You have to try the Baby Bok Choy & the Chinese Cabbage with Dried Peppers. The latter is maybe the most delicious thing I've ever eaten and I dislike cabbage. The atmosphere is busy but chic. The outside bar in the summer is fun. The service is always impeccable. Recently came here with family for dinner and it was busier than I expected so I was hopeful it would be just as great as the original location that I love. We were seated promptly in a pretty room in the center of the restaurant that almost felt like we were in a greenhouse with the glass walls. Our server was patient with our questions and made some good suggestions. We shared some soup dumplings and the three cup mushrooms and then got some chicken and fish dishes to share as well. The food overall was flavorful and the dan-dan noodles were spicy and just how I'd remembered them. The string beans were also a favorite! Food was solid 4/5 Unfortunately the food is where the stars end... while our food was brought out, a large amount of hot sauce from one of the plates was spilled on my father while the employee was juggling plates and despite noticing this and just saying a quick I'm sorry before running off, the employee (not our server) didn't get him a napkin, check on him, or seemingly let anyone know... our server seemed completely unaware it happened and to be honest I'm not one to complain about service but that really rubbed me the wrong way. First-time visitors and it won't be our last! I hate to be those people, but we were in a time crunch and Colin was great about it! All of our drinks were delicious. It was nice to have a hot spiked cider with my cold noodles! My family ordered the dry pot dishes and they couldn't stop talking about how delicious they were. The word used was "phenomenal", so thank you Colin for recommending those dishes! The menu doesn't lie, "vegetable dishes that could be mistaken as entrees." Not easy to find anything free without some serious effort. Walked up to see a few tables sitting outside on a breezy day and walked in to see a couple tables and a few customers at the bar. Bar was decent size, able to seat 20 patrons or so IIRC. We stood there for a couple minutes (no host or hostess in sight) and a couple people walked by running food. Someone finally walked to the stand and we asked to sit outside. They sat us at table that was not wiped down and it was pretty sticky. After watching a table blow over in the wind tunnel that is this seating area, we asked to go inside. We were not alone in this decision. They put us in a cool atrium like area with lots of great vegetation and sunlight. The table was just cleaned, but around it was filthy. It had food all over the floor with kids snacks, so they just didn't have time to clean up, but sat us there anyway. Luckily, we were a party of 3 and just avoided the quadrant where this child was sitting. Still pretty nasty looking floor. Our server was nice enough and took our order for appetizer and drinks. My daughter's appetizer came out and mine did not. Must have been a mix-up, as it came out 10-15 minutes later. We ordered noodle dishes and they were all very tasty and quite spicy. Dan Dan noodles a huge portion for the price. Lots of minced pork. Definitely leftovers. We finished up and paid and on the way out, I thanked them at the hostess station. Their response...."yup." A friend highly recommended this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised by my experience! We made a reservation for the conservatory and everyone seemed to be just as impressed by how beautiful it was because once you enter you could see people peeking through the window to take a look. I'm Taiwanese and loved every dish we tried, this was plenty of food for just two of us (family style): * Cumin lamb Hand-Ripped Noodles - Doughy noodles, cilantro, cumin, and generous portions of lamb meat...what is not to like? I actually can't handle too much heat but this was so worth the tears. * Taiwanese Pork Belly Burger - This was a bit expensive to me, but I made sure to savor each bite. The peanut crumbles were such a nice complement to the juicy pork belly and pickled vegetables. Made me nostalgic of my childhood! * Three Cup King Oyster Mushrooms - I didn't know I could like a mushroom dish like this as much as I did, they really soaked up the three cup flavor and I made sure to finish every last bit of the sauce. * Dumplings in Chili Oil - I'm used to having more ingredients in my dumpling filling, but these seemed to be purely pork. We came here Saturday night with a party of three. It is located in the large shopping complex near Haverford college. Service was good despite nearly a full house. Dishes are Taiwanese inspired and they have a lot of modifications with more chilies and peppercorns added in. We enjoyed the intestine stew and salt and pepper chicken thoroughly. Food is good however a little salty and more oily than what I like mostly . It is however a Chinese restaurant so that should be expected . Their cumin lamb and Dan dan noodles probably are the two best things . It is located in suburban square hence it is ideal for sitting out on a nice day and for the kids . To know me is to know that I love spicy food and that Han Dynasty is my absolute favorite place to have it! But ever since Dan Dan came into Philly for the first time I was equally curious, even more so when I learned that Han Dynasty helped them work on the concept. It also didn't hurt that they were named for my beloved dan dan noodles, and each time I've been able to try them from a Philly spot they've delivered a tasty wallop almost as good as Han's. Before it came to my neighborhood of Ardmore I've only been able to have Dan Dan in small doses, and I was looking forward to giving it a try for the better, and when I have it's delivered a serious spice show. One complaint or victory depending on outlook is that to know Han Dynasty is to also recognize a lot of the same menu items beyond those signature noodles. But since this makes it the closest place for me to enjoy my favorites like cumin-crusted lamb and twice-cooked pork belly, I can't ay that it's a bad thing! But beyond the classics, there's a ton of Dan Dan items I've enjoyed including the following: Taiwanese Pork Belly Burger - thick-cut and brined pork belly, pickled mustard greens, and crushed peanuts get sandwiched between two bao buns for the best fusion sandwich ever! Tumeric fried chicken wings - normally I prefer my chicken wings saucy and spicy. But there's just something about that tumeric rub that leaves me craving more! Cumin lamb hand ripped noodles - what does it take to make a noodle dish better than dan dan? Taking large noodley bits that are perfect for digging into with a hand pull (which is a lot better than it sounds), and putting spicy and savory slices of cumin lamb on top is what! Farmers Style Chicken - for a good spicy dish that doesn't deliver a serious spice wallop this flaming wok prepared dish with Sichuan peppercorns and all the vegetables is where it's at! read more

They also gave us the happy hour menu, only to then say it was over and we couldn't order. Why give us the menu in the first place? We decided last minute to stop in here to grab a bite. It was an early Monday evening, around 5pm. At first, the hostess looked confused trying to figure out where to seat us. To be honest, I couldn't tell if she was clueless, or just snooty. Maybe it was a combination of both. I'm not sure what the problem was, the place was around 98% empty. Most of the people there, were sitting at the bar. There were only two tables that had people eating in their " conservatory " area. She asked us if we had a reservation. We didn't since it was a last minute decision to go out to eat. She told us didn't have anything for us. We ended up leaving, very confused why there were so many empty tables, but she couldn't seat us. We found another place to eat right around the corner, Rosa Mexicano. Fantastic restaurant that's going to get a 5 star rating, and an excellent review from me. Right after we sat down at our table, I checked Dan Dan's reservation time slots on my phone. They had plenty of reservations available at the time. I'm not really sure why we were basically refused service at Dan Dan. I would've liked to give them a proper review. But being refused service, and not being able to be seated only deserves 1 star, actually zero stars if I could. read more

Great night and thanks to them for taking us in. They were full outside but inside was big and open. There are a couple seats at a bar window. I really love that touch. They have a happy hour at the bar, outside, and in the lounge. Prices on apps and drinks are pretty good for it. I'd probably come back for that. The drinks were good. I had the blueberry mule and my partner had the lychee martini. We had the sesame noodles, szchuan cold noodles, cucumbers, and scallion pancakes to start. All really good and really quick. We also enjoyed cumin style chicken, the lychee homestyle fish, and double cooked pork. The dishes were exactly as I've had in the other Dan Dans. I'll definitely be back. I used to live in Chinatown and was spoiled for options when it came to amazing east Asian food. Now I live in the burbs, and I'm always on the look out for local restaurants which are good enough that I can retire my regional rail pass Unfortunately this is not the place We did really like the spicy soft tofu pot, which was delicious. The desert buns were also good; crunchy and not too sweet at all which was surprising. However, everything else we got was disappointing We ordered the pressed tofu crispy noodles, which were fine, but the tofu itself was under seasoned. They also weren't crispy, or spicy. The duck buns were just okay, definitely not as good to me as some of the reviews said Lastly, I got the soup dumplings, were were kind of gross honestly. The pork was so fatty that it was more liquified fat than delicious bites of pork and broth. One was fine, especially with the vinegar, but after the second I honestly felt sick. They also didn't really taste like anything besides fat and meat Overall, everything was mostly fine, but nothing blew me away and the price was kind of high for just okay food. It was a balmy Saturday afternoon when I headed to Ardmore for lunch with a good friend. She chose Dan Dan, in hopes I could find vegan options while she enjoyed her tried and true favorites. With so many appetizing choices, we opted to order a few entrees to share while enjoying separate appetizers. I settled on the vegetable potstickers and scallion pancakes. I couldn't remember when last I enjoyed potstickers as many restaurants didn't offer them without meat. They were delicious! Flavorful and packed with succulent veggies! The scallion pancakes were also delicious and not too greasy. With too many savory sounding options to chose from, we decided to share three entrees. First up was the Cumin- crusted Tofu. It can be a challenge finding Tofu with the perfect crust that is also seasoned to perfection. This dish fit the bill! The cumin flavor could be tasted in each bite of the perfectly crusted tofu. The onions and red and green peppers were sautéed nicely to maintain a slight crunch. It was all so delicious, I enjoyed it with very little rice. Our second entree was the Garlic Sauce Dish with Pressed Tofu. This dish also featured perfectly cooked tofu that was not mushy, yet fully absorbed the aromatic garlic sauce. Adorned with red and green peppers, mushrooms, and bamboo, my carnivorous friend marveled at how the tofu had a tender, meat like consistency. Another home run! Our final dish was a last minute decision, the classic Dan Dan noodles with, you guessed it, tofu. The flavors were a pleasant surprise with a hint of nuttiness. The food was very good but the staff not so much. The staff has an average age of 30 I would say. They can't seem to recognize the difference between a person who has had too much to drink and a person who is from Paris France. I went to dinner with a friend on Thursday evening (5/15); we sat at the bar. The woman who I was with has a voice that carries and maybe appears to have more of a flat tongue when she speaks, but for God sake that does not make her unruly or drunk. She was not being rude, arguing or making any kind of seen at the bar. She was polite, kind and demonstrated very acceptable behavior but when she asked for another lychee martini the staff never brought it; when she asked again they told her she was flagged. For what??? She displayed no bad behavior. The saddest part is the staff did not have the courage to tell her until she ask for the martini again. Then she was told she was flagged. How immature of a staff to not inform her immediately! The staff went on to state the manager made the decision but the manager never appeared at the bar area that evening.
