It was a cold day and we weren't able to get into lunch at Turning Point and were looking for a place where we could be served and not order at a counter. We decided to stop at The Grog Grill which I had only been to once before in the 23 years I've lived in the area. I recalled that at that time, the Grog burger had been named best of the Main Line so I tried it and thought it was definitely not the best burger. The service was excellent, the pub environment was pub-like, we were seated at a high top at the back of the restaurant and next to a door to to the outside which made it very cold! I wore my heavy coat the entire meal. Cobb salad - 3/5, I think it's hard to mess up a cobb salad, but this was just okay. Tons of bacon bits and not a lot of salad greens, almost like a deconstructed salad which is weird for pub food. Mushroom flat bread - 3/5, just okay What redeemed our lunch was that when we asked for the check, our lovely server told us that the older gentleman at the bar had taken care of it along with the checks for several other patrons that day. This breaks my heart, cuz the grog has been my favorite restaurant/bar on the mainline for probably 12 or so years. The food I ordered today was just awful. French onion (which I maintained for ever this place had the best) came out cold, and then when I got it back it was bland with no flavor at all. Then I got a burger which was overcooked with no seasoning or flavor. It's taken a sharp fall from where it was years ago, and kills me to say that. Super cute pub near the Bryn Mawr movie theater. We stopped here because we still had some to kill before our movie and was pleasantly surprised by the food. The interior was like a typical pub, seemed like a few regulars were there drinking at the bar. Our server was super friendly. Needed a snack on our day of adventure in the Bryn Mawr area and found this cute little place. I'm not going to lie, I expected basic pub fair. This place is totally elevated! The burger was so good and the waitress was super nice to let me know, since I got the gluten free bun, the fries were battered so I got the salad instead. I got the Grog burger and holy moly. I come every week for trivia. I have always been satisfied by the service, however once the summer started I have been disappointed. I was not going to leave a review until tonight. I was taking the first sip of my drink when one of the upstairs bartenders knocked by drink out of my hand, although by accident. I asked for napkins and for her to replace my drink and she did not provide enough napkins to clean both the table and seats and told me "I bet you'd like another drink, huh? You're not getting one from me." I thought this was extremely rude as she knocked the drink out of my hand to begin with. I then went to the other upstairs bartender and told her the story. We wanted Sushi but it was closed. This place was right next door so we decided to give it a try. Parking: Metered Service: Kate was our server. She was nice and accommodating. We liked that they used plastic table settings. The fancy ones! Food: I ordered the turkey burger, fries included. The turkey burger was very tasty. The best public turkey burger I ever tasted! It was very flavorful and it's hard to flavor up turkey. The fries were delicious. My friend ordered the shrimp tacos. He said it was good but too much lettuce. The next time he'll tell them what to put on it. Drinks: We ordered cognac with pineapple. It was watered down. We could taste the cognac lightly. We ordered another round this time without ice because we thought maybe that was the reason for the drink taste. The second round, without ice was watered down. Maybe we are just lushes!! Lol. I really wanted to like this place because I've passed by it so many times, looks like it has a good and laid-back ambiance. We came here for brunch on a Sunday, we were greeted immediately by the waitress. Later on, I realized this is the only server they had on a weekend. We ordered the hemp infused wings, steak frites and steak tacos. Oh man, all I can say is that both me and my friend were disappointed on the food - simply tasteless. The steak frites is 95% of fries and 5% of steak. The portion is ridiculously small. On the other hand, the drinks were good, we had Long Island iced tea, jalapeño margarita and a shot. This was the worst bar experience I have ever had. Me and 7 friends walk in on a Saturday night and sit at the bar. Already rude service from the bartender but nothing crazy so we stayed. 4/7 friends were ordering 3+ drinks. After less than an hour on a Sunday night at 7pm, the waiter tells us if we are not actively ordering drinks then we cannot stay because of the possible "rush". It was not busy in the slightest. We were confused but said okay. The people in our group who weren't drinking all stood up and stood behind our friends that were at the bar so people could sit who came in. No one else came in. She then told us again if we were not actively drinking we could not stay. We were starting to get super frustrated at this point. Another 10 goes by and she prints all of our checks without us asking and slaps them on the table infront of us. We payed and left. I have gone to the grog for personal social outting and for work events. The food there is one of my favorites. The staff is always friendly and attentive. For work events, we have never had a problem having a happy hour there. No matter how short of notice, they make it happen for us. We have had mutliple events in the upstairs bar as well. My wife and I used to like this place. It offered decent food (for a pub) with reasonable prices. The last time we went there (12/2023), we found out that they have a new menu. My favorite entree, the lamb chops, was no longer available and I had to settle with an OK alternative. My wife's favorite, Fish and Chips, is still available. But what she had was the soggiest Fish and Chips that we have ever had, and probably the soggiest in the world (I'm not kidding). Jessica the bartender/server is so warm and welcoming. We ate at the Grog twice while in Bryn Mawr dropping our kid off for college and she was the most delightful part of BOTH of those experiences. That is not to say that everything else wasn't also good. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was great - very laid back. We were there for lunch and it wasn't noisy at all very enjoyable. We did walk by one evening and it looked like it was hopping in there (no surprise). Highly recommend The Grog, and do ask for Jessica, if you have a choice. Went here for brunch over the weekend and the service was great - not just for our table, but I overheard our server at another table, and she was very kind and attentive all around. I wish I had gotten her name so I could shout her out here! The food was pretty good and decently priced. I had eggs, potatoes, and toast. We hosted a "Welcome Drinks" event on the 2nd floor the night before our wedding and it was a perfect venue, we had the best time! Stew was great to work with. We had some food set up and ready to go when we arrived, and we were able to bring in decorations, flowers, etc. Despite the large turnout we had, the bartenders were great and no one had any issues waiting too long for a drink. We got nachos on the special menu for $5 normally $14. Flour tortillas chips burnt and soggy with only toppings on the top later so basically 3/4 plate could not eat. I don't know how many of you TRY, but looking for real fried chicken at a bar has become a hopeless case in the Philly area (even in town.) Real, bone-in fried chicken is one of those foods that is craveable, and that no substitutes will quench. There are some very decent places around here to get a drink OR some crispy, juicy fried yardbird, but to have both together has recently required buying a pint and eating the Krispy Crunchy in your car at the Lukoil parking lot at Belmont and City Line. Researching today, I saw the Grog menu had chicken and waffles. Now I have seen a number of abominations of this combo with wings, nuggets, fingers, etc. standing in for the REAL chix. I took a gamble, and trekked to Bryn Mawr to a place I had not visited since around 1983. It may have been Mallory's or even You Bet Your Life (You Beat Your Wife) back then. I sat at the bar. Service was quick enough. More or less a Villanova hang (with a few old farts like myself) my expectations were low. Chicken and waffles is a combo that sort of dates back to 1600s Amish, but in modern form can be traced to Wells Supper Club in Harlem in the late 30s where it was frequented by Jazz royalty like Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. A few years later it migrated to Jazz joints of South Central L.A. So boring history aside, how did Grog do ? Maybe I was just so happy to see this at ALL, I was not hyper critical, but it fired on almost all cylinders. A half chicken (breast, wing, leg and thigh, shatteringly crisp skin, and crunchy breading. Sweet syrup, ketchup (I'm not sure why) and HOMEMADE mashed potatoes (just a little lumpy.) I just tried a taste of the waffle (it was fine) as I was cheating on KETO bigtime anyway.) Verdict is, it was a DAMN good dish, worth $20. The $10 a shot for Tullamore Dew was a bit more than I'm used to but hey .... Worth checking out if you are fan of the dish. Next time I'll ask for some hot sauce. read more

I haven't been to the Grog in many years, not since the original group of coworkers I used to dine with on Fridays broke up (sadly, they've all left me for other jobs elsewhere and here at Nova I still am LOL). Boy, those were THE DAYS! I remember many a lunch at the Grog - it was one of our favorites. I recall their fabulous hummus platter that came with cucumbers and grilled pita bread, and capers scattered across the hummus - oh it was soooo good.
