Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure

Different cheesesteak #1049 in the last five years. I want to move to Narberth so I can go to The Greeks everyday. Who knew Narberth had a cool little downtown district? $20 for a cheesesteak, very good french fries and a very tasty beer with 'dead cat bounce' in its name. The cheesesteak (fried onions & mushrooms), a good amount of well seasoned and juicy meat. I would have liked more cheese. I could taste the mushrooms. The roll had a tough time holding together against the juicy meat. A lot of very good coated french fries. My beer was very tasty. Overall great stop.

The Greeks is iconic in Narberth. To me, I can go with a family of 4 for dinner, two adults having 2 beers each and leave for +\- $18-&20 a head including a good tip. Love the fries, fried chicken sandwich, cheesesteak, burgers and salads. Always a good tap selection. This place is as local as it gets and brings out the best of the experience.

Standard CB & Fries for $9.50. Excellent 4 star fries and a 3 star burger. Think bar food.

It's called The Greeks so I expected those cute girls in white togas with the one bare shoulder. Maybe some olive branches in their hair. A statue or two of Aphrodite or Zeus would have been cool. What a got was a decent dive bar. Just a note- Be warned, you're most likely doing meter parking here and the ticket writing is aggressive so add an extra quarter or two to be safe. The ATMOSPHERE here is classic dive bar. If you've seen one you've seen a hundred and that's not a bad thing. Think dim, and wood, and a little beat up. Feels like just what it is; a neighborhood bar with a lot of regulars. I was coming from work and wearing a sport coat and that got some looks. I also ordered a drink instead of a beer and that got some more looks. Speaking of beer, although I wasn't in the mood, their specialty beers list is amazing! If you are an aficionado of great brews, this is your place. My bartender was not wearing a toga but he was personable and my CUSTOMER SERVICE was just fine. The menu is mostly bar FOOD and I ordered the classic burger and fries for about $10. I waited a while and just as I was about to say something it came out. The fries were from-a-bag as expected but were better than most. The burger was just OK. It was a standard frozen patty and standard bun and nothing special. Would I come back; absolutely? I refuse to wear a toga but I'd show up in jeans and a t-shirt and try out that beer list!

View toward the front of the bar during Christmas season.

Best and oldest bar on the mainline. No brainer. Great food too. Try the Mexican. Also, cute girl bartenders. ‍

I learned later that this restaurant has been around since the early to mid 1900's. Plenty of parking in a large open lot. The place is very large and has one of the longest bars I've seen. The wood is very dark and you can see the chefs cooking over the hearth. They don't take reservations and won't see you until your entire party is there. One of the things I liked for our party of 10 was they had no problems with seating as they also have many large round tables. For mixed drinks, they make them pretty big and potent. For my martini, they sent back an extra glass. They also had great bleu cheese stuffed olives. We ordered onion rings (8 large to an order) and fried zucchini. The onion ring I had was pretty good. I didn't have the fried zucchini but heard it was also pretty good. Other than the light fare items, all dinners come with their salad bar which has both iceberg lettuce and Caesar Salad along with many fixings as well as cheeses and bread. I had the Baked Seafood Platter which came with scallops, shrimp, Clam Casino (without the shell), Maryland crab cake and a small lobster tail for $49.99. My wife had the baked chicken breast which she said was quite dry. The dining area is quite large and reminds me of the restaurants at a casino. Some in our group said it reminds them of Medieval Times due to the dark wood vibe. While I thought it was a bit pricey, I would still come back and try their signature steaks or prime rib.

Haven't been here in a while but now this place is back in my rotation! It's in the heart of Narberth, a very cute spot on the corner with plenty of outdoor seating. As we were walking in a server, Sara, welcomed us with a friendly smile and got us seated at an outdoor table. She took our drink order while we perused the menu and came back with waters for both of us as well, which is always welcome during the warm summer days. I opted for the turkey sandwich, which is one of my favorites at the GAP. Your choice of cheese and gravy on a Kaiser, it's delicious! My GF got the quesadilla and opted for shrimp instead of chicken. She loved hers as well. It was actually a bit busy for 9:30 on a Wednesday night, with lots of people sitting outside. Sara took great care of us, refilling our waters and getting us another round of drinks, she checked on us several times to make sure we didn't need anything. Stop in if you're in the area, great food, drinks, and friendly service!

Manatawny Still Works - Ardmore

There were a lot of things that I missed being close to when I made the move from East Passyunk Ave…read moreto Ardmore. But one of the things that I missed the most was being able to visit Manatawny Still Works for wonderful cocktails and whiskey purchases on the regular. Aside from the very wonderful caffeinated concoctions from Char & Stave (https://www.yelp.com/biz/char-and-stave-ardmore) and the ones that I'd try more of at Ripplewood if they didn't have such a wonderful beer list (https://www.yelp.com/biz/ripplewood-whiskey-and-craft-ardmore), the amount of good cocktail bar options in Ardmore has been kind of stagnant by comparison. So when I saw a table for Manatawny Still Works during the first Ardmore Rock N' Ride and learned that they were opening a new outpost on Lancaster Ave, I was ready to get reacquainted with one of the best. And since then it's led to me also imbibing at what now might be my favorite Manatawny! Since the location is so close to the train station, its the perfect place to imbibe and kill time in before grabbing a train to Philly. And whether you enjoy relaxing at a corner table and taking in the crowd, getting a group together in a more private table setting, or grabbing a barstool and watching the cocktail-making magic, this location has the perfect table space for you. For Cocktails I love true that they hold true to the style of the other tasting rooms by offering signature cocktails, classics, and new variations of classics like a Maple or Italian old fashioned. But I especially appreciate how the signature cocktails pay homage to classic songs like "Cherub Rock", "Be My Druidess", and "Gold Dust Woman". Toss in new cocktails that rotate with the seasons and latest releases, whiskey flights and a whiskey of the month club for those who love it, and a good weekly happy hour, and there's plenty to enjoy here!

Lion and I have been big fans of Manatawny Still Works for at least three years, probably longer…read more My first experience with them was at a YEE at their Passyunk Ave Tasting Room, where I fell in love with their Honey Whiskey poured over vanilla ice cream - yeah, it's like 3-4 of the deadly sins in one swoop delicious. When we heard they were opening a Tasting Room in Ardmore, then, we were delighted. Within walking distance means we don't need to flip a coin to determine the Designated Driver or, alternatively, take an Uber. We eagerly headed over there for a pre-dinner cocktail. Some things to understand: This is a Tasting Room. There are no bar snacks, there is no food offered of any kind. There are no screens to watch "the game". The focus here is on the whiskey, rum, brandy, etc. They offer only Manatawny spirits. Don't ask for another brand to be used in a cocktail. They don't have them. You can purchase bottles of their spirits to take home. This is a really cool place. We were greeted warmly. The decor is very sleek yet warm with mix of stainless steel and warm dark woods. Sinatra and the Rat Pack were playing on the sound track. Our bartender was friendly and professional, answering questions and making sure we had what we needed without having long conversations, he was good at reading signals, in other words. There's a comfy bar, some 4 top high tops and a small glassed in room with three 4 top tables that we were told could be reserved for a private tasting or event. It's small but nice. Lion got the Manhattan which he declared was very nice. I got the Apple Brandy Sangria which is now my New Favorite Drink Of All Time. Yes, better than Honey Whiskey over ice cream. They don't have ice cream now so if you want that: 1. Buy a bottle - worth it 2. Walk down to 900 Ice Cream and get their John Stockton vanilla - the best vanilla on the planet 3. Go. home, scoop ice cream, pour whiskey and experience dietary heaven. Parking if you're driving is behind the building, metered. Also very close to transit - Ardmore train and bus stations are like a block away at most. Go, order the sangria, fall in love. There's a better than even chance. that I'll be there.

The location is a bit awkward because there isn't convenient handicap parking directly in front of the entrance, which could make things a little challenging for some guests. I recommend dropping people off who have mobility issues first then park. Our party was held in the private area in the back, but it's not truly private since there isn't a door, it's more of an open corner section of the restaurant. Because of that, it was pretty loud with the jumbo TVs going and regular diners nearby. I've been to the PJ Whelihan's in Blue Bell, and their private room had doors and felt more separated from the rest of the restaurant, which helped with noise. That said, the Wynnewood location has a huge bar and tons of big-screen TVs, so it definitely has that fun sports bar vibe. The food for the party was good overall, although it wasn't served very hot. The buffet included Caesar salad, rolls, sweet potato fries, potatoes, broccoli, crab cakes, salmon, and chicken parmesan. The salmon was a bit overcooked and slightly dry, likely from sitting out for a while, but the rest of the items were ok. Soft drinks were included, while alcoholic beverages were purchased separately at the bar. I also want to give a shoutout to Lina Morgan and the manager Shannon, who were all very helpful and attentive to our group throughout the event. One thing to note if you're planning a party here: they don't allow take home containers for leftover buffet food due to food safety concerns since the food sits out and temperatures fluctuate. Overall, it's a lively spot and did I say with plenty of TVs lol and a good setup for group gatherings. If you're planning a party and don't mind some background noise, it's a solid option.

I didn't realize it was where Mad Mex used to be until we got there. It was definitely full in there, but luckily and surprisingly didn't seem overwhelming for our little one. The host was able to get us a booth on the other side of the restaurant that was in a good spot for us. The staff were all friendly and polite. Our waitress was really good - good banter, good recommendations and feedback on menu items we were deciding between and very attentive during our dining experience. Though it took us a while to decide what we wanted, we made sure to put in our little one's order since we knew she was pretty hungry - her standard and favorite (Chicken Tenders and fries). We ordered a couple of drinks: I got the Strawberry Mojito and he got an Old Fashioned. At first I thought my drink was completely off, but I just mixed it up and it wasn't too bad after that. My boyfriend said his was okay so ended up ordering a beer after finishing the drink and preferred the beer. For our meal, we were definitely eating with our eyes lol and had a good amount of leftovers to take with us. For apps, we went with the Loaded Nachos with the pulled chicken and Hot Honey wings. Both were actually pretty good. For our entrees he ordered a burger (cooked medium) with tots while I went with the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. My boyfriend said his burger was cooked more in the well side which he felt didn't make it as juicy as he was looking for, but he could deal with it; my food was fine with no issues. We definitely see ourselves coming back sometime (parent-free ) to try happy hour and other menu items.
