The food here is INCREDIBLE. The spice levels are amazing! If you are looking for spicy authentic Chinese food:this is the place!

I ordered kung pao shrimp and roast pork fried rice tonight. The shrimp was great and you for sure either had a different cook in the kitchen or you changed your recipe for your rice but it was inedible. It has been so good for years but tonight it was nothing more than brown rice with zero flavor. Very disappointing read more

Food wasn't good. Had the wonton soup the broth had no flavor and the wontons were hard.

I've lived in both Philly and New York and this is still my number one Chinese restaurant for authentic and delicious Szechuan food. My family has been coming here for decades, and I never visit home without stopping by. We have our routine favorites, but the owner frequently adds new dishes to the menu, and we've never been disappointed by her recommendations. If you're looking for authentic, fresh, and affordable Chinese food and friendly service, you MUST try this spot! read more

Do not door dash from Bamboo! Not only was the door dash driver unaware that the royal tofu entree was really egg yolk tofu w/ peas the restaurant was unaware as well. The menu has pictures & yet there was a complete disconnect. When I tried to get the right entree door dash only offered a refund & then declined said refund. By the time I was ready to go to Bamboo & get the right food & return the nasty looking egg yolk tofu they had closed. As far as I'm concerned door dash has no place in my life ever again as does Bamboo. read more

More like 3.5 stars. We were there tonight. Honestly, food is pretty tasty, but the service can be "weird". What I experienced tonight was not very pleasant. I was with my husband. First of all, we were sitting there with no one paying attention to us for about five minutes. At one point, I was considering leaving but I kept waiting. Finally one of the female servers came to us asking me in Chinese what we wanted to drink. Because I was with my hubby who speaks no Chinese at all, I by reflex said "water". Upon hearing my answer, the server went on questioning me quite sternly (again in Chinese): "Do you speak Chinese or not?" I was a bit upset. Of course I can speak Chinese, but isn't it also natural that I speak English when I'm with my English-speaking husband? I just don't understand why she grilled me about it. After she brought us the water, she didn't want to let us order. I heard her telling the male server in Chinese that we don't speak Chinese so she doesn't want to deal with us. I couldn't believe my ears! In short, the food is good (but there were two mysterious string-like pieces in my chicken), but the service is just lacking in professionalism. read more

The lo mein was the spiciest I ever had anywhere. The egg drop soup was ok but no noodles included like other Chinese restaurants. They also charge a 3% surcharge for credit cards. Party of 2 went in on monday evening for dinner Open sign was not on but it was open, (close on tues), the place was spacious with well decor, Two tables were dining in, one guy who looked like employee, was looking at us from the far back corner table without any acknowledging our presence. We stood there several second awkwardly, this woman came out from the back and pointed out where to sit without greeting. We sat down, and ordered food, two spring rolls one veg and one shrimp, dan dan noodle, egg drop soup and shrimp pad thai,, Food came out, the guy who was sitting back there served us, (i was right!) , he didn't seem like speaking any English, he put spring rolls in front of us without a word, when i asked him which was which, he said some chinese word and then disappeared,, thought he went to ask but never came back, i had to ask the female employee. Shrimp spring roll was literally fried rice/flour wrap with one shrimp in it , it was tiny without any seasoning or anything else inside, Taste nothing literally.. and dan dan noodle and pad thai taste were so strong and salty we had to keep asking for water Which they never bother to come and check on us if need anything.. More people came in to dine and togo, I was actually wondering why, maybe price was not too bad? Ive been meaning to try this place so im not going to regret but i doubt that i would again read more

Amazing lunch specials. Excellent and authentic food. Just do it! I'll start with where I started, lunch specials. For like $8, you get a decent portion of an entree, soup, and an egg roll. Don't worry, the quality is the same as a non-special entree and top notch. My go to for lunch is the Double Cooked Pork. It's like slices of perfectly cooked bacon with just the right amount of greens. To pair, I recommend the hot and sour soup. Other dishes I've tried include all of their shredded pork options, the fish stew, and the beef and tripe in oil appetizer. They know how to cook pork it seems as those dishes were my favorite. The Fish Stew was also amazing, however, it is a bit spicy. The best part on the stew is the portion as it overfills a large container and so they also fill another smaller container. Certainly big enough to share. I can't rave about the beef and tripe, but wouldn't stop you from ordering it to decide for yourself. I've only ever gotten take out from Bamboo and look forward to post-COVID days to try them dine in as well. read more

If you like and can eat SPICY Szechuan food then this is the place! It's a hidden gem! I wouldn't of known about this place if my relatives didn't invite us out for dinner. We mainly ordered all spicy dishes. The food was very good and portions were reasonable. Prices aren't bad and great service. It's a small restaurant, nothing fancy. It's the food that matters. read more

Bamboo was recommended by someone on Facebook as an authentic Szechuan restaurant. We had to drive half an hour to get there, but, indeed, it felt like we were only steps away from the Szechuan region of China. Decor is regular Chinese restaurant decor, but the menu leans heavily into regional dishes, including many I have not seen on an Americanized Chinese restaurant menu ever. It's hot, it's tasty, it's fresh from the kitchen, and it's not dumbed down for conventional American tastes -- but it does have a menu section for "Chinese American." But, why would you pick from that? We're coming back, no question. read more

Came back for Thanksgiving while visiting my parents- food was just as great (if not better!) Here is what we got- Beef and Tripe in Chili Oi- SO GOOD!!! thinly sliced and spicy- just the way I like it! Shredded Pork with Bamboo Tips- the flavor is so good, perfect amount of garlic. Cumin lamb- I think we got this but spicy- The sauce is SO GOOD to put over rice. I dont usually eat rice but I poured this all over my bowl and devoured it. Fish Stew with Pickle Mustard Greens with Flounder fillet- GAME CHANGER! The sauce is DELICIOUS and u can DRINK IT LIKE SOUP!!!!! The english title is misleading - at first even I was like "mustard green??" but trust me this is a hidden gem- you won't regret getting it. Flavor on POINT! We ordered take out- they do get busy so order ahead! Prices are reasonable! Authentic food! read more

The food has been excellent here over the half-dozen times I've eaten in or ordered takeout. It's a Szechuan restaurant for sure; don't go unless you can handle some amount of spice. The servers and waitstaff have always been nice and the restaurant is quickly becoming a reliable favorite. I am adding some photos of the menu, since it's tough to find anywhere online. read more

A great example of Sichuan/Chengdu cuisine. Authentic to the point of scary for the novice Chinese eater, this is the place to go if you want to get your Mainland Chinese food fix. In no particular order: La Zi Qi Ding (Chicken with Hot Peppers): Amazing. The flavor of the chicken buried in the dried chiles straddles that perfect line of sweet, salty, savory, hot. The crispiness of the chicken can not be undersold. Spectacular. Mustard Greens (sautéed): This may be the best way I've had mustard greens ever....EVER. Absolutely delicious with the herbaceous and very faint bitterness of mustard greens. SO GOOD. Hui Go Ro (Twice Cooked Pork): Really good. Properly rendered, thin cut pork belly, steamed and then stir fried with leeks and peppers. Stir Fried Dry Mushrooms: This is one of the best new dishes I've tried. It's essentially a dry hot pot style with these amazing dry long mushrooms. Very authentic and very good. Save room for this. Sui Zu Yu (Fish in hot broth): Another hit. Properly used GREEN sichuan peppercorns dominate this fragrant dish. The authentic veggies are welcome too with bamboo, and soybean sprouts. YUM. Spicy Beef Cold dish (Fu Ji Fei Pian): If you can read my terrible Pin Yin you know this dish. It's great. REALLY great. Dan Dan Noodles: Lots of places make this, but not many make it well like here. Proper use of Peanut powder and not hamfisted broken peanuts sets this noodle apart from the rest. Exceptionally good. Scallion Pancakes/General's Chicken/dumplings: Shout out to the typical fare that they do very well here. Scallion Pancakes are stretchy and chewy. Delicious. The service and space is very good and comfortable. It's way better than Dan Dan restaurant (which sucks so bad I'm not even reviewing it), and is better than Han Dynasty (sorry bud). read more

Authentic Szechuan cuisine. I have been doing the takeout for years, occasionally sit in with friends or family.

Much better than before. I think it really varies based on the chef. Really wish they could get their consistency down. Regardless, the Geleshan Ma La Chicken was extremely good, but sadly it was only like 10-15 pieces of chicken and the rest inedible pepper husks. The Dan Dan Noodle was decent, but a bit dry and not much in terms of ma la spice (they did remember to put the scallions on since I specifically reminded them). Quick Fried Lotus Root was extremely tasty and perfectly seasoned, definitely getting that again. And the steamed chicken and mixed veggies was well received by others. I hope they work on their quality assurance, consistency, and overall food quantity. Would be nice if they had more descriptions for some of their foods as I'm unsure on the translations. But overall, looking forward to eating there in the future. Oh, and I still can't believe they haven't fixed the "free dessert" on the Yelp page. It has been over 5 years since it has been on there and not valid. FIX IT! read more

Food and service always good. Many dishes to choose from. Pad Thai and garlic shredded chicken are a couple favorites.

Bamboo is one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in this area. My family would always drive 40 minutes to eat here, and get takeout here the most during the pandemic. I ordered the spicy boiled fish, the bamboo shoot and minced pork, the husband and wife appetizer, and the Dan dan noodles. I really loved the Dan dan noodles which were a perfect balance of sweet, savory and spicy. The boiled fish was also very delicious, with the numbing spice really adding a lot of flavor. I also love the garlic eggplant and snow pea leave dishes from here for vegetarians. read more

Bamboo - Fuqi fei pian, bamboo shoot and pork, spicy boiled fish, Dan dan noodles. Ordered takeout! - Chinese Near Me - Norristown, Pennsylvania

I have been there before the pandemic and food was good. We passed by yesterday and walked in. Service was fine but food was disappointing. Spice pepper fried chicken was all pepper but a few pieces chickens which was flavorless. For nearly $30, Whole fish was not worth it as it felt like a left over dish. Overall, not a good value, with less than desired taste. Will not go again. Will not recommend it. read more

4.5/5 Great Bamboo is an excellent example of authentic Chinese Cuisine executed with care and attention to detail. Their menu, while daunting, carries many authentic Chinese dishes that are sometimes difficult to execute or hard to perfect. While some dishes lack flair, their dishes overall rate above average or are very good. The service is attentive and the staff are extremely accommodating. Overall a very solid dining experience for a decent price. This is the second or third time I've personally dined at Bamboo and like always, I am extremely impressed with their dishes. While some dishes are average, overall the quality is superb. Some dishes are prepared well, but lack the flair that other Chinese restaurants have. I found that certain flavors could have been more bold or more pronounced, but overall very strong. Some dishes do lean on the more expensive side (the bok choy with mushrooms, Peking duck, to name a few), but overall good bang for the buck as well. Great restaurant, if you're in the area and craving authentic Chinese cuisine I highly recommend. read more

Solid suburban Chinese food restaurant serving szechuan dishes with a twist. The chef and owners, who are from mainland China, have done a good job of presenting traditional fare while adding dishes to appeal to the suburban crowd. Definitely the place to try more than general tso's goopy chicken! I really like the pork lettuce wraps, which have a unique house-made crouton in the mix. Also good is the spicy ma po tofu and the creamy dan dan noodles, which had good flavor but needed a bigger bowl to mix in all the sauce. I've also had steamed fish in a brown sauce with onions and garlic that was delicious. Vegetables like Chinese broccoli and lotus root were also good. I haven't tried any American Chinese dishes here, but it's probably not the spot I'd go to for that. If you like szechuan food this will probably be one of your best options in the suburban, and if you haven't tried szechuan food yet give this place a shot and try something new. read more

Looking at yelp for all of the local Chinese places, I saw that Bamboo could be a viable option for us. I think the average for all of the places around here were 3.5 stars and realistically, this place pretty much is. I placed the order online and asked in the comments if I could use my yelp check-in voucher for the free dessert. The great thing about the website, is that you could choose a pick-up time. Around that time, we headed to Bamboo. The front window sported a red Yelp sticker, so I knew we were in a good place. We arrived about five minutes early and our food was already sitting at the front. No one was there to greet us, but eventually someone came over. They ran the order and I asked about the dessert. The woman told me no, we don't have that. okay... Loaded up the car and we were off to our house. I'll be honest, the smell of that food was so intriguing on the way home. When we unpacked the food, we saw that this really wasn't a Chinese-American restaurant. By that, I mean we didn't get any fortune cookies or sauces. Seemed more authentic. The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't super amazing either. The Soup was average at best. The fried rice tasted clean, but we went with the young chow version. Pork, Chicken, Shrimp, and vegetables. The problem was, there wasn't really that much of the "extras" in the fried rice. The homemade dumplings contained the smallest amount of chicken too. The menu seemed really impressive and there are more options that seem great to me, but I'm just not really in a rush to go back. read more

Love me some authentic Szechuan cooking. Bring on the chiles and garlic! Lots of adventurous dishes to try here people. Don't worry though, they have a lot of "regular" Chinese American dishes on the menu too. The chef's special fish stew with mashed garlic pickled mustard greens was the table's favorite. Think giant bowl of soup (that serves 4) with tender chunks of white fish and a fragrant and slightly spicy broth. We also tried the pork wontons in chile oil and the scallion pancake for appetizers and the house special Tofu dish. It was all excellent. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the milky crispy shrimp with broccoli. I am just not a fan of any creamy sauces when I eat Chinese food. It just seems so wrong for some reason. Make sure you check in to Yelp and get yourself a free dessert. We scored a sweet potato cake coated in sesame seeds. Any restaurant that gives Yelpers a freebie automatically gets and extra star. I declare Bamboo worthy of 5+ stars! Great service here too. The staff is sweet and friendly and willing to help take the time to make recommendations and explain the menu. This place is BYOB, so plan ahead. It was a rough day and a glass of wine (or maybe 3) would have been sooo nice. read more

We wanted Chinese food but wanted to go somewhere we haven't been to before. My husband found this place and said it looked good. Ordered the Peking duck as our meal. The duck was pretty tasty and crispy. The plum sauce tasted more like soy sauce though. I used it on my rice since we weren't given any soy sauce. We weren't given any duck sauce or fortune cookies either. I don't know if you have to ask for them, but usually it automatically comes with the meal so we didn't know we had to ask. The duck also said it comes with pancakes, but it basically a tortilla. They were stingy on everything we ordered. We ordered young chow fried rice and the chicken dumplings to split. The rice was supposed to have 3 different meats in it but I hardly saw any in it. The chicken dumplings hardly had any chicken in it, literally the piece of chicken was like the size of a marble. And the wonton soup had an even smaller piece of meat in it than the chicken dumplings, I don't even know if I saw any meat in it. We also saw a yelp offer for a free dessert but they said they don't do it anymore. The one good thing is it tasted clean and healthier than the typical Chinese food chain. I didn't feel bloated like I normally do. But overpriced for the amount of food or lack of food you get. read more
