All I wanted was a fried rice combo with orange chicken and I was charged 23+ dollars for a orange chicken and white rice combo with an extra order of fried rice and on top of that I never got fried rice. I got white rice with egg in it and when I tried to explain to the owner/employee she was extremely rude and had no respect for me as a customer. She continued to yell at me saying that the white rice was free keep in mind that its not because Im paying for it with the combo (I never wanted white rice, she could have up charged me 2 dollars for fried rice and everything would have been great). Food is salty , rice is terrible and service is extremely rude. Save your money and go to a more respectable establishment. read more

I usually try not to look at Chinese food in general when I eat it-- but Bamboo's meat was weird looking; not normal even for takeout Chinese food. The other flavors and sauces were below par too. We dumped our food in the trash after a few bites. The atmosphere inside the place is nice, clean, and has a comfortable vibe to it. A solid authentic Szechuan style restaurant with both traditional and modern twist of the cuisine. I couldn't give it a full 5 star because some dishes I didn't think they cook correctly. Food can be inconsistent occasionally. When asked for the reason, 90% of the time was due to change of chefs. Regardless a few times that were off, I still take family here often. We have a mix of people who can handle spicy and who can't. So we always order a bunch of apps to share. Here is our scores: Wontons - 4.5 stars. When ordering wontons or dumplings from any Authentic Chinese restaurant, make sure ask for Handmade or Chinese Style, because it's totally different from the "American Chinese style" that's known for decades. It doesn't matter what filling you prefer. The warping are much thinner and chewier, the fillers are larger and fresher. Half stars for not spicy enough. And I can't take this dish for takeouts because they will stick together. Quick Fried Lotus Roots - 3.5 stars. I love lotus roots but so few places offer them. They're lacking flavor but bagger can't be choosers. Quick Fried Cucumber - 1 star. Don't get it. It's supposed to be crispy with a quick fry with pepper corn or peppers. This came out soggy and flavorless with a few big pieces of peppers next to the cucumber. "Blow-ur-Mind" Spicy Chicken - 5 stars. My favorite "modern" spicy chicken here. Full of flavors and different types of peppers have different effects. Did blow my mind indeed. Geleshan Ma La Chicken - 5 stars. When ordered dining in, the presentation was great! Also the mixture of peppercorn and dry peppers gives very satisfying results of spiciness. Peppercorn Chicken - 4 stars. The Chinese name implies "free-range Chicken" but didn't taste any difference. Tea Smoked Duck - 3 stars overall. Very inconsistent. Sometimes it's fantastic but occasionally uneatable. But it's one of the non-spicy poultry on the menu so we always take the chance. Chengdu Chili Beef - 5 stars. Another example of wonderfully executed Modern Szechuan dish. The flavors are full and delicious. Eggplant with Garlic Sauce - 4 stars. Traditional but still very tasty. Could use a bigger portion. Whole Fish - 4 stars. For Chinese New Year, a whole fish is always called and this is one of the places have them. They have either whole Tilapia on BBQ sauce or Szechuan Chili Bean Sauce. The Dry fried whole fish was too dry for my taste. "Red Revolution" fish filet and bean sprouts -- 5 stars. The best spicy fish dish around! It's a hot-pot and it's super spicy. Don't order if can't handle extreme heat. Fish Stew w. Baby Gingers and Pickle Mustard Greens -- 4 stars. One of the best non-spicy fish dishes here. Szechuan Chili Jumbo Shrimp - 5 stars. Surprising good with medium chili sauce. Fresh, flavorful but not too spicy. Sweet Potato Cakes - 5 stars. Again, it's another wonderful dessert that so few places offer it. They're wonderfully done. Overall I recommend it to anyone who enjoys athletic Szechuan cuisine. Be aware if you can't handle spicy you can find something to eat, but not many. read more

My dad asked if I could pick up Chinese for him, so I stopped here since it was on the way. I ordered through the phone and it was ready 15 minutes later when I picked it up. The place seems run down, but it has been there for some time. I was greeted by a woman who was nice and she promptly checked me out. I ordered shrimp and chicken fried rice, wonton soup, and shrimp rolls. It was almost $20, which I thought was much for lunch hour. The food was clean and good. The shrimp rolls were very small. My mom was concerned when she heard I ordered from there because her friend had food poisoning there. My dad was fine. I tried some and I was okay too. Overall, the food isn't bad, maybe overpriced. I've driven by this place over a thousand times and finally decided to have lunch here. We ordered the shredded pork with garlic and the ma po tofu. Although they use a lot (I mean a lot) of Chinese oil, it didn't taste greasy to me. (Please note that they don't use Chinese oil on all their food, but when they do...) I actually put some shredded pork with my tofu and it was yummy. We ate early so there were only a few people in the restaurant. But our service was prompt and friendly. There menu has a good variety of food broken out by protein (or veggie), has an "American- Chinese" menu and serves Thai food. i have been to all restaurants in and around philly for the traditional spicy food. I have to say this place is awesome. A lot of signature dishes taste very good and not Americanized. There are also some other places good as well, eg there is one in Chinatown. However, Bamboo is still the best and my favorite. I ve been keeping going to bamboo for years. I can here with my family and we were quickly seated. The service was a bit slow, but there is a great selection of food options here. The lo mein here is one of the best I've ever had! I would highly recommend trying it, though it is pretty oily. My mom's been here several times and loves the "Fresh All The Way" soup. We also ordered the pecking duck, hot and spicy fish filet, and sweet potato cakes. I personally thought all of these dishes were not anything more special than what other restaurants serve. I can't say it blew my mind, but I'll add it to the list of entrees I'll order again. As others have mentioned, for dine-in, their menu features pictures of entrees (helpful when ordering). We got the chicken dumpling in chili oil, which was savory, sweet, a little heat and plenty delicious. This was followed by "Blow Your Mind Chicken", which had a little heat, but nothing that an average person can't handle. Followed by mustard green, which seemed to be made in Chicken broth and was not at all bitter. Finally, we had the crispy rice with three delicacy (chicken, beef, shrimp) which probably was the biggest surprise because of the texture! Love this bamboo, not to be confused with any other bamboo restaurant. The complimentary tea was hot. The music is Classical Chinese music and the staff is very pleasant and clean. We liked the fish stew with pickled hints of garlic and ginger. I would of preferred a stronger garlic flavor myself but very delicious. Truly a hidden gem in the middle of the nowhere suburbs, Bamboo is an authentic Chinese restaurant in the Szechuan style. (The spicy part of China.) Decor and service are pretty simple and basic, but the food is some of the best that you can get outside of Chinatown. Skip over the "americanized dishes" like fried rice, lo mein, and General Tso Chicken. (I've tried it, and it's not good.) My favorite appetizer is the Dan Dan Noodles. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have been to. It is in a strip shopping center and the decor is fairly plain inside, but everyone in our large group enjoyed everything. There was no hit or miss, everything was very good. It was kind of shocking, we were in the minority not knowing Chinese. Everyone who worked there and almost all the customers were Asian, but we were treated just the same. Friendly staff and the food was served fairly quickly. BYOB which was nice. They brought out wine glasses and opened the bottles for free. The food was on par with Pho Tai Nam up the street. I hate to say that, since it is also one of our favorite places.
