Service was attentive from the start, and the two middle-aged waitresses were happy and accommodating of our needs. FOOD: Dan Dan Noodles - heavier on the sesame/peanut sauce, which is authentic. Comes in a small bowl so perfect for sampling as you won't get full on the carbs! Beef and tripe in chili oil - I thought this was perfect! Not drowned in chili oil and flavored just right. And plenty of meat, which is always a plus. Spicy boiling fish filet - delicious! Plenty of filet and comes in a huge pot loaded with dried chili peppers. I was a little worried when we were a little afraid to touch the menu's as they were rather old and sticky. As was the table. But the reviews on Yelp were so good that we decided to stay. The people are nice, but not really ummmmm (for want of a better word) attentive. The 2 dishes we picked were very good. Mongolian beef and a lamb with scallion dish. Next time I won't pick something so similar in taste. The food was good and great the next night as well. Yelp offers you a free dessert................and we kept waiting for the dessert menu to be brought over, but after about a 10 minute wait we were presented with a flat circular sesame covered pastry. If the restaurant is only open for takeout, why are they charging everyone a "convenience" fee to pickup their order??? The staff used to be great but now they are unfriendly and short in talking with the customers. My scallion pancakes were less than crispy and came with no dipping sauce as it should. Their were mostly onions in the beef dish and close to raw. There were enough chili in the dish to feed the entire population of East Norriton. The only thing that was harder to find was the beef. I used to love the food from this place but the last few order have been not to their normal standard. That and the less then friendly staff will keep me away. Hidden gem. Seems as though most of the staff doesn't speak much English which could be why some reviews are dissing the service. But honestly we got sat and got all of our food in a very timely manner. We got the dan dan noodles which are made with peanut butter and so delicious. They have been forgetting my order and made the order wrong. The owner is a female they like to smile and stands at the front. I've explained to her doing business like this isn't good for her. It just seems like she doesn't want me to give them my business anymore. So the last visit I've order and pepper steak lunch special. She told me it will take 15-20 mins. Which is fine. After 30 mins or waiting I've ask if my order is ready yet. She smile back and coming soon. After 45 mins later I've ask her for a refund and notice my order was never place or done at all. I've gave them many chances and cont to be nice and understanding. But this time was my last time I will ever go back. I saw people come in, get seated, and order. 20 minutes later I see the same family get their food. Everything the reviewer JC.A said is true. We visited Bamboo on a Sunday evening and it was terrible experience. Once seated, no one came up to bring us menu or take the order. We waited for 20 mins for a server to acknowledge us. Even worse, we had waited an hour before the first dish was served. (don't ask me why we were being so patient, several friends raved about the food; it was weekend evening, restaurant are usually busy and we were trying to be understanding). While sitting there waiting, we saw groups of people coming in, waiting and eventually leaving without getting any service or even being greeted. Looking around, we were not the only one table not being taken care of, most customers were waiting without any dish on the table or server by the table. When our appetizer finally came in, we were disappointed - it resembled something out of a tin and tossed randomly in red oil on a plate. The taste was alright, not impressive. Maybe the food here is usually good for what it is supposed to be, but the service was bad and apparently there were other problems. We (and other customers in the restaurant that evening, as I've observed) gave them several last chances to make things right, but they kept screwing up. There were no apologies for the serious delay. We tried to communicate with the manager politely but she seemed not interested to communicate or take any customer feedback. As ridiculous as it sounds, the manager and her team even blamed each other for messing up orders in front of customers ... and yes there were name callings. I understand every business has a bad day, maybe we were just unlucky to be there on that day. However, with service terrible like that, I'd rather move on. read more

Last night 4/4, I called at 9:05 PM to place an order to delivery, but both of their phone lines rolled over to automated messages machines that said they were full and disconnected me. My wife and I looked at the menu again and I tried to place an online order. After having to set up an account and going through the menu and finding what we wanted and putting in the credit card information and and and, the order was finally accepted and processed at 9:53PM. With no way to call them or email them to find out if they were going to deliver the order tonight or tomorrow, so we waited and surprise, no delivery. We I called them today and the first phone number listed rolled right over to their automated message machine and dropped me. No promising. I was totally surprised to hear a human voice when I get a human voice. When I tried to tell her what had happened she did not understand me. I tried again and she asked me again "you order now" and when I did not order she hung up on me. I called her back and my wife tried to talk to her but she did not speak English and her question was "you order now" and when my wife asked for somebody who spoke English she hung up the phone again. WOW! My wife and I stumbled upon Bamboo after realizing Pho Thai Nam and Blue Fin were both closed on our Monday date night. What a pleasant surprise to arrive at this revamped restaurant. It's a BYOB now with authentic Szechuan cuisine. The owner was super nice and explained how the double fried bacon was homemade; which may I add was an incredible dish. I went with the house special steamed pork which was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Oh, and take advantage of their YELP check-in special. Delicious dessert. We'll definitely be back. read more

Great food!!! After stop going to Han Dynasty, I have tried Pin Pong and Pin Wei. I would say this one is now my favored. We were there this Saturday for dinner, and this place was buzzing! There were 11 of us, and fortunately, we had made reservation ahead of time since they only have 2 large round tables that can accommodate large party. Our foods were great except for a special chicken dish (not on menu) that might need acquired taste (hence "special"). We emptied most of the dishes and left one to take home because we were way beyond full. No MSG certainly helps and appreciated, but that's not the biggest concern for me. What I really like about their food was that they're spicy, but not crazy-inferno spicy that gets you stuffed with rice and water, or sending you crying to the door with your tongue sticking out, and regret your choice of food the next morning. They are just right....and frankly...that's how great dishes supposed to be. The highlight dish of that night was a Tofu dish made with crushed salty duck egg yolk (also, not on their "regular" menu). Its deep great flavor that my wife and I still talking about it on our way home. This place is small. Staffs are young and attentive. But you can sense slight chaos in the air once the tables are filled and busy. I am sure they will get better. One tiny recommendation to its management, crank up that A/C!!! Just came back for my favorite dish. Double cooked pork. Unfortunately it no longer looks like the picture I posted a while back. About 3/4 of the slices of pork bellies were 90-100% fat. I gave them a chance to fix it but was told that this is how double cooked pork is there. This is an unfortunate change. All of our dishes were prepared fresh and were full of flavor!! The Pad Thai my son ate without stopping. My husband is European and is the worlds biggest critic when it comes to food - especially Duck; he ate the entire entree and said it was crispy and tender with perfect flavors. Just got carry-out, Hot and Sour soup and Peppercorn Chicken. The soup was delicious--my normal barometer for a good Chinese restaurant. But...the chicken was almost completely inedible--take-your-head-off spicy and half of it was sharp little bones/skin/gristle/who knows what. Totally gross-out disgusting, and I threw it all in the garbage. My husband and I finally tried Bamboo this weekend for the first time after they opened (we had been frequent customers at Zen, the previous restaurant at this location). It was a good meal, and we would go back again. One comment to clarify a previous reviewer's complaint about the steamed pork -- the dish is actually *supposed* to be fatty. I ordered it out of curiosity, and the cut of pork they use is pork belly, which is half fat but it's what makes it so delicious. I just peeled the layer of fat off of it (the pork is meltingly tender so it comes right off), and ate the meat itself... it was full of flavor and unlike any Chinese dish I've had before. This place gets a 5 star because it has become my go to place after moving to the suburbs from center city. It is a delight for anyone who loves Sichuan food. They make the most delicious fish - be it diced fish, pickled chili fish or the stew with greens. Mapo Tofu is also yummy and the so is the egg drop soup. read more

Ordering online was easy and the food was delivered quickly and hot on a Friday night during peak Chinese takeout hours. There is a $2 delivery fee that isn't mentioned on the website or online ordering process but shows up on your receipt when the food is delivered. I was super excited to find a Szechuan Chinese restaurant in this area and wanted to explore the basic favorite dishes. The ma la chicken and hot and spicy fish filets (awesome that they included a big and small container for this as the portion is always big and I hate when I just get a quart container and know I received less than when eating in the restaurant) were great. Definitely less ma la flavor than a Chinatown Szechuan restaurant, and it was missed, but still great flavoring and I would order again. The Dan Dan noodles and beef and tripe were unfortunately missing the ma la and oil that make these dishes so special, I would not order again. The west lake beef soup, which should be a wonder in its simplicity of flavors, was ruined by the Americanized additions of carrots and celery (what?!?). Overall, I am pleased with having a Szechuan option (even more so that it delivers and quickly) in the area and can get my fix for these flavors. Some of the dishes are unfortunately tweaked with the expectation of what the local clientele would want, but some are great and I would order every week if I could. Located in a Strip mall off Germantown Pike, this unassuming, hole-in-the wall Chinese restaurant is an absolute knock-out. I can't believe such quality Szechwan Chinese food is being served right here in Blue Bell. Every dish I've tasted has been excellent, I'll just name a few - Ma La Chicken - Popcorn-size pieces of deep fried chicken sauteed with spicy dry peppers and Sichuan peppercorns - creates a delicious spicy/numbing/tingling sensation in your mouth. Dan Dan noodle - soft thin noodle served with a subtle amount of fermented black been paste, cilantro and chili oil. Double cooked Pork Belly- probably the tastiest kind of bacon you will ever have, thick cut then double cooked, served with loads of big fresh sauteed scallion greens. Other readers are correct pointing out there is NOTHING like this in the suburbs - Mostly a collection of American -style Chinese places serving the same old Gen Tso Chicken, Chop Suey - this is NOT one of those places. I can't even remember what we ordered since my mom went all out and ordered for us. The only thing was the service was a bit slow (thus docking a star). I had been craving eggplant for some odd reason so I picked up the eggplant with garlic sauce and a hot and sour soup. Wow both were excellent.
