Stopped for dinner this time and enjoyed the eponymous Dan Dan noodles. We also shared the dry pepper chicken, nicely peppery, as well as the sizzling dumpling which was good but not particularly exciting. We had plenty of leftovers as the plates were large. However, I question whether we received all of the entree as the one container was burgeoning with food but when I got it home and on a plate the next day, it appears less than what was on the original platter. read more

This place fills my soul and completes it. How is the food so damn good? How is the service so quick and how does the food come out so quick even during peak hours everytime? My mind is blown. From basic dishes like meat with hot peppers or scallions, to their appetizers, to their traditional and signature dishes, nothing is bad. Their dumplings in oil have an addictive sauce. Green Peppercorn Dish is perfect for those seeking flavors and sensations of all kind. Their tofu dish is homey and savory. The dry pot dish is satisfying and seasoned very well. I have frequented DanDan on a few occasions. Each time has been better than the last. I would highly recommend the twice cooked dish with fish. The only drawback is the dim lighting. We made reservations for 2 last night at 7, a Monday. Our table was not ready when we arrived. No problem... but... then took over 15 minutes to get water and any orders in, 30 minutes for wine, over an hour for our food. One entree was served 15 minutes before the second one. Wrong rice. Our appetizers came after our entrees. Our wine pours were very small and unsatisfying especially since our food took so long and was not that tasty overall. Nothing was apologized for or comped. We actually ventured beyond our go to order for the last month to explore new taste sensations. My love of Dan Dan continues and even better closer to home...found Dan Dan in Philly and now there's one right by home...same awesomeness without the traffic to Center City. I personally can't get enough of the spicy cucumbers, and actually think the the Dry Pepper Chicken has gotten better (...may have name wrong here, it's the chicken lightly battered with dry peppers...whatever it is it is delicious) ...the light batter packs such a good flavor. I usually get one for the "table to share" which is just my way of ordering an extra appetizer ;) While Craig Leban put Dry Pot Fish on Philly's top 25 dishes, I think I might like the chicken version even better. Also love the flavor and texture of their signature Dan Dan noodles even though I'm not a noodle guy....another secret "for the table order" so I can get a taste. My only issue with this place is I keep wanting to order the same stuff I had before so I'm not getting to the rest of the menu. Long story short I continue to recommend anyone who wants authentic Sichuan restaurant make the trip to Dan Dan whether in Devon or 16th and Sansom in Center City. Trust me this is not run of the mill "Chinese" food, its a really good different and authentic. THANK YOU Devon DAN DAN...So glad to see them busy in their new Devon location because now I'm spoiled and can have same great food with a 5 minute drive instead of 45 minutes. The server was particularly good with our toddler, making sure he was well-secured, and bringing out plastic utensils and water in a plastic cup for him. Dan Dan meets the needs of suburbanites looking for relatively authentic Sichuan food in an upscale-casual restaurant. The lunch combos are a good selection of items and I like the fact that they give you some spicy cucumbers. I could eat a whole dish of these. The angular rice bowl, while providing a clean and modern aesthetic, makes it difficult to navigate with chopsticks. I am sure that a lot of people are worried that the food is too exotic or spicy and there are some really authentic dishes but the menu is so diverse there are plenty of options. There are many dishes that are not spicy and kids would enjoy as well. I personally like the spicy dishes but I do have kids and a lot of friends that cannot stand the heat! My wife and I recently tried Dan Dan for the first time and were blown away. From the cocktails (homemade ginger ale) to the entrees everything was excellent. We just had our second visit to the Wayne location and all of our favorites (pictured are Wontons in Chili Oil, Spring Rolls, Crispy Spicy Cucumbers, Veggie Pot Stickers, and Dan Dan Noodles) are just as tasty in Wayne as they are on 16th Street. Dan Dan is amazing, I went with another person and the total cost of the meal was perfect for dinner. We even had leftovers to eat at lunch the next day. If you like spicy food or Taiwanese this is the place to go! I had the chili oil cooked wontons and they were PERFECT, the three cup chicken was amazing as was the dry pot pork (I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy food so we leveled it down one). Dan Dan also has excellent waiters, when we closed our menus (the sign that you're ready to order) the waitress came within three seconds and was really nice. A five-star is a perfect rating for Dan Dan, from the excellent food and glorious waiting to cheap prices for a fancy restaurant and nice staff. Recently I shared with a a manger there that I had just lost my dear brother in law, who lived in China for a while, and just absolutely loved the food here. They offered for our family to come and have a beautiful private lunch there after his memorial service, and we're just absolutely lovely and caring. The Wayne setting is a pleasant location. Service was very good. However, the food was unexceptional. Dry pot chicken, listed as spicy, was bland. My wife's tofu stew rated as 4/5 "dots" hot, was bland as well. The quality does not warrant the prices. read more

The food was really exceptional and it was a great atmosphere. My son and I tried the DanDan noodles which were a little spicy but exceptional none the less. The soup dumplings were a little dried out, could have been plumper and moister, but also they were tasty. The shrimp / seafood fried rice and duck sandwiches were really good. Last, the spring rolls were ok, but fairly run of the mill. The Hendricks gin and tonic was well made, just forgotten and delivered mid meal. Overall the waiter was great, very friendly and laid back. He had good support from team members on clearing old plates, but sometimes they delivered the wrong food to surrounding tables. Dan Dan (Wayne location) never disappoints, innovative drinks and authentic Sichuan and Taiwanese food (the garlic eggplant and home style flounder are a new fave). Add on molten matcha cake, fried ice cream, and sesame red bean paste balls? Heaven Even the take out food here is great, we easily have our fix once a week! Really wanting to try their location in Ritten House Square as well. It's just so hard to find such great food for this value! Five stars for the food! Service was okay. Wait was terrible. We didn't have a reservation and were told our wait would be 30 minutes for a party of four. We checked in forty five minutes later for an update and were told thirty more minutes. Are you kidding me? Did they want us to walk away? I know sometimes restaurants do that. We stayed anyway because we were dying to have the food. As soon as we were finally seated I put in the following for starters: scallion popover pancake, scallion pancakes (the regular), Taiwanese pork belly burger, soup dumplings, and dan dan noodles all of which arrived promptly so we didn't get to order our food til they noticed we didn't. The food arriving fast, the food tasting delicious, and the workers not minding us for eating a lot and staying over two hours made up for the over hour wait to be seated. This is a Chinese restaurant, but it is clean and American decorations. I guess the boss is American. I ordered dan dan mian - but I suggest they change this name to "hot dry noodle" because it is 武汉热干面。 lots of sesame sauce in it , and lots of noodles. The other one dry beef is good, I can tell it is from very high temperature. May be I expect more when I saw four stars so I only have three. This is my favorite authentic Asian restaurant on the Mainline. I would suggest stepping out of your comfort zone and trying the many authentic dishes available...along with a giant glass of water. My favorites so far are : crispy spicy cucumbers, pork belly everything, beef and tripe in chili oil (don't google just eat), wontons and dumplings in chili oil, Cold sesame noodles, dan dan noodles (So On point here), pumpkin pork rice noodles (my Favorite non spicy dish), twice cooked dish, dry pot dish, ginger scallion dish with Fish, mapo tofu, baby bok Choi to name a Few. You can't go wrong here. Even the fried rice is better. They use the most fresh ingredients and you can tell!
