Up until now, I'd never had a fast food place advertise something as "hot" or "spicy" and actually…read moremean it. Dave's Hot Chicken apparently took that personally. I ordered the chicken sandwich combo with fries--mild, I think. Maybe medium. Whatever it was, it had more legitimate heat than the Burger King Jalapeño Whopper ever dreamed of having, and it made Taco Bell's Diablo sauce taste like something you'd give a toddler. It wasn't painful, just the kind of spice that politely reminds you who's in charge. The chicken was juicy, the breading stayed crispy, and the sandwich had just the right amount of everything. The fries deserve some credit too. Crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy inside--the way fries always promise to be but rarely are. When the box showed up, my first thought was, "That's it?" Five minutes later I was forcing down the last few bites because I refused to let perfectly good chicken go to waste. The portions are a lot more filling than they look. We had everything delivered through DoorDash, so I can't say much about the restaurant itself, but whoever packed the order deserves a shout-out. Everything was boxed neatly, looked like it had actually been assembled by someone who cared, and somehow arrived still steaming hot. If you had told me it had come straight from the kitchen to my table, I would've believed you. First time trying Dave's, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Now I just have to work up the courage--or stupidity--to order something hotter next time.

I've been to several and the bigger conglomerates are the ones that have been letting me down the most. In, steps Frangos.... HOLY CRAP WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THIS CHICKEN is pretty much me every time I try what they are offering. Over fries or in a standard basket, doesn't matter because it's super-bomb! Everyone messes up on the juiciness but you'd think this was marinated for at least three days in some god-like buttermilk mixture because it's NEVER a problem here that you get dried out strips. It pairs well with that Frangos sauce you want to take home and possibly bathe in or slurp up with literally anything else out of your fridge. Situated in an old breakfast spot that was easily my favorite within a 10 mile radius and is missed tremendously, I believe the old owner's sons turned this into what it is now and really didn't change much of the decor at all. Hit up the kiosk or go to the friendly staff manning two registers. Even on weeknights, 75% of the tables are filled with everyone from a group of Wilmington teenagers to young families and their kids gobbling down the poultry. It's vibrant and hopping at all hours inside. I'm a huge sucker for atmosphere, so when you hear the mostly 90's pop blaring out behind the kitchen's bluetooth speaker, you know you've come to the right place. Even that toast they are serving alongside the standard dinners *chefs kiss*. My goodness, don't ever change, Frangos.

The quality of service, food, drinks, atmosphere were all very good. Turnover here is also very good, as there was no wait for an almost-full restaurant at 7pm on a Friday evening. Drinks were flavorful, but strength seemed a bit inconsistent. My Patriot's Pour, a bourbon drink, seemed a wee bit stronger both in flavor and perceived alcohol than the martinis we were served. The ice cube with the restaurant's name in it was a nice touch. Our dinners all came out at the same time and were, as mentioned, enjoyable. I did notice that the counter in front of the kitchen, where dishes are placed waiting for pickup, seemed to have more plates on it than the could be under the heat lamps. Hopefully folks' dinners weren't inconsistent in temperature. My Thai salmon was done the way I like it, firm and crispy. Parking outside is ample as well, there were several spaces free near the entrance at any time. They do a good job all-around here.

My baked cod dinner was ok (def had better elsewhere in town), but the side of roasted brussel sprouts were so gross. They were complete mush and I couldn't even eat them. All the other food around us looked great - maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. But I probably wont rush back.

There have been too many times when I've received a poppers biscuit and it's more like a hockey puck that has raw flour in the middle. I didn't realize the biscuits actually resemble normal biscuits until eating one from this location last week. Either that, or they just over cooked them and it turned out great while all other Popeyes follow a recipe that undercooks them.

On the best day, it's disappointing and on the worst day it's dangerously inedible. Went in tonight for chicken, biscuits and mashed potatoes. Everything was terrible. The biscuits were hard as a brick. Inedible. The mashed potatoes were ice cold, hard, and tasted like cleaning solution. Inedible. And the chicken. How in God's name can you incinerate the crunchy crust to the point it disintegrates when you touch it, while the chicken on the inside is cold, squishy and undercooked. 16 pieces, three mashed potatoes, eight biscuits, $50, and it all went in the TRASH. Popeyes really needs to do something about this location because there is zero quality control. A Hungry Man fried chicken frozen dinner would have been a significant upgrade. This was the final straw. It's either the Everett location (they are excellent) or I don't eat Popeyes.
