Been going here for 3 years, 5-6 days per week. Located in Medford, Mass., Alexanders is not only a convenience store but a breakfast, lunch and dinner destination. I go there for the breakfast and though I've tried other places, I always come back here. The food is cooked to order by Nicki who is a master at the grill, never a bad breakfast...ever! No nonsense neighborhood market with a grill that is open until 11pm. I noticed the police officers and paramedics ordering here, and figured this was a hidden gem. Gave the chicken cutlet w/prosciutto a try. I would definitely order it again. Good amount of prosciutto and mozzarella. Dressed with Balsamic vinegar. Great bread. We had an outdoor, appropriately socially distanced baby shower in October. Alexander's did all of our food-- sandwiches, chips, cheese & crackers, fruit, caprese. I think this is accidental and NOT on purpose, I will say that first. However twice now I've walked here for scratch tickets and the young kids (only young kids, not anyone else) have not been able to do the simple math on what I'm owed, I have to tell them. And twice now I have gotten all the way home and realized they missed giving me a $5 scratch ticket. So it's like they robbed be of $5 twice now. Again, I think it's an accident but this isn't right. On top of that, I walked here last Friday and it was closed at 8 PM. I'm sure it's hard to find people to work a rainy Friday night but it was a bummer. I won't be going here anymore. I have been going to Alexander's since i was a kid, the ice cream and chicken tenders were always magic to me. I moved from Medford around 6 & have missed it since, today i decided to make the trip and visit for the first time in 13 years. I got chicken tenders and their classic breakfast bomb, when i tell you this place gets better with time ! Everything is fresh & made to order and don't get me started on these prices, you cannot beat them! $12 for a huge sub, chicken tenders and cold drink, you're not finding a better deal in Boston! It's a good place for what it is. I've gotten their breakfast sandwiches, regular sandwiches, burgers, french toast, etc. The criticisms are fair: you might get a grumpy employee (reminder: you're on the east coast), your order might be wrong, might even end up with a part of a broken eggshell in your food, the bad comes with the good--a convenient cheap place. Where else can you get a coffee, breakfast bomb, french toast, chips, gatorade, crazy glue, scissors, top ramen in one place for under $10? I wouldn't be surprised if they have a mechanic in the back that changes your oil. By no means a place to take a date or drive out of the way for but it's certainly convenient, cheap and the food (+variety) is a couple notches above a 7/11. read more

For two years, I lived around the corner from Alexander's. It is a beacon of amazingness in South Medford. The fabulous cold cuts! the really underpriced produce! the AMAZING broiled haddock dinner! The gallon of $3 1% milk! What seemed to be an entire pint of ice cream from Richardson's jammed into a cone for $3.95! God, I loved that place. Since COVID-19 lockdown, I estimate I've spent at least $3500-$4000 (conservative calculation using debit card info & rough tally of cash transactions) at Alexander's on Main Street. All the staff are cool and they have very nice Tufts Univ. students. However there's one female staff with thick glasses & messy white hair. This person has a perpetual frown and grimace. Believed for a while that it was possibly due to her poor eyesight. She is mostly unpleasant (impatient, curt, unhelpful, rude, seems annoyed or downright angry) either on the phone or in person. I learned her name is Ruthie and she clearly gives zero "Fs." I rarely write a negative yelp but she kind of deserves it because of the following: recently my six-year-old grandson and I opted to stay there to eat our grilled hotdogs. One of the staff gave him markers and paper & that was great!! "Ruthie" started actually barking (yelping?) at us and snapping noisily that we needed to clean everything up because they were 15 minutes away from closing time. Extremely uncourteous and unnecessarily rude. Wonder if others have experienced this. Not sure who owns the place or manages Miss Ruthie, but she is odious & sorely needed retraining. read more

Not bad! For fourteen bucks, my date and I got two orange juices, two egg and cheese sandwiches on croissants, and my giant coffee. Worth it. Although this is a convenience store, they also have a deli and options for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is mostly sandwiches or yogurt parfaits and the lunch menu consists of sandwiches as well. For Tufts students, Alexander's accepts Jumbo Cash. It's a casual environment but people seem to like it here- there were several gentlemen reading the paper and watching the morning news while waiting for raisin toast to have with their coffee. First time I went here I'd just moved in up the street. I ordered a sub and somehow managed to leave without paying. I made it back to my place, realized my mistake and came back, embarrassed. While insisting I'm not a thief, just a ditz, I made good on it. Honey mustard chicken with some humble pie to go was delicious. Sometimes I come here to get an ice coffee or a breakfast sandwich. I heard of them messing up on the subs and I've ordered a sub before and as everyone else they messed up on my sandwich. Top it all off the sandwich wasn't anything I couldn't do in my own kitchen. The other day while getting ice cream I experience the rudest customer service. He was lazily putting together my sundae and when it was time to pay he snatched my debit card out of my card. I won't be back here for awhile. I noticed that everyone has been giving this place a 5 star review. My boyfriend and I just went into the store today and the man working behind the food counter was ridiculously rude. We ordered a turkey sub by saying "I'd like a turkey with american" and the man asked "what the hell is that?" in such a rude way. I was so surprised by his attitude. Tried Alexander's for the first time. Ordered the chicken cutlet prosciutto sub. Wanted exactly what the menu said was on it plus lettuce. Was asked 2 different times how I wanted it. This after I said I'll take it just like on the menu plus lettuce. Hmm... Ok my first time and I don't know the lingo so they will get a pass on that this time. The sub was good but nothing extraordinary. Watched a young guy come in and walk to the upper side to buy some scratch tickets. He stood there for about 3 minutes without anyone coming to help him. Once he stepped down where they could see him they helped immediately. Epic fail? No but the setup there has blind spots so being aware of them as an employee should be top of the list. The store looks like they carry a lot of great stuff. Cold cuts are high quality. Ice cream and slush section looks yummy. I will definitely come back in the near future and check it out. read more

Alexander's is just a fantastic establishment. Everything that you are looking for in a local corner store can be found here. This isn't one of those stores with dust on the cans. At Alexander's, you will find fully stocked shelves, desserts from Lyndell's, breads from Piantadosi, a fully stocked deli, an ice cream counter, and a lotto/keno section to boot. There is an on site ATM, Ice cooler, and they accept credit cards. Mention should be made of their sandwich counter, as they are reasonably priced and pretty tasty. Granted, it is hard to compete with Bob's which is only a couple blocks away, however bobs is only open until 8, so i giver the upper hand to Alexander's (after 8, of course). read more
