I stopped here for brunch on New Year's Day after a workout. The place seemed casual enough to be in your gym clothes. It was busy but I was seated right away. I arrived an hour before closing. I was given a menu and coffee. Ordering was very easy. The food came out in a timely manner. They have all the classic diner options. While the food was great, the service wasn't as welcoming. They did not come to check in or refill my coffee like they were to others. Whether that is because of me dining alone, me coming close to closing time or due to my race, I guess we will never know. I did go up to the counter request more coffee and a to-go box. Expect to pay ~$15-20 for food and coffee. read more

I like this place. I've been several times. Always good food and service. But strangely yesterday I got a breakfast sandwich and they added $.35 for the bread! I know the menu says there's a $.35 up-charge for a bulky roll or bagel and a $1 up-charge for a croissant, but I didn't get those. I just had my sandwich on toast. read more

Food is good but as a minority you don't get that welcoming presence. From the day I walked in I felt some type of animosity between the waitress and I. My most recent visit I brought a friend with me and within a minute of putting our money down she asked to collect it. My diner is a hidden gem. The staff is very friendly and the service is excellent. I've been getting breakfast there for years and there was never an off day. From omelets to breakfast sandwiches to French toast you can't go wrong. I can't say enough good things about My Diner!! I'm from Ohio, but anytime I'm in town I always make it a point to eat here at least once, usually more like 3-5 times. Breakfast food is the best food, and finding a casual diner with vegan options is practically unheard of. My personal favorites are the vegan waffles and vegan omelette, but I've had all of their options and everything SLAPS. Service is always super fast and the staff is so friendly! Genuinely one of my favorite places in the state of Massachusetts, if not the entire world. The only thing I would change is for them to be open 24 hours so I could eat there whenever I want! read more

It was well worth the trip. Enormous portions and great service. The tofu scramble is out of this world and the home fries cooked just right. They have Earth Balance for the toast and soy milk for coffee and a small but interesting vegan section of the menu. My omni husband was also quite pleased with his egg omelette. There is nothing in the world I love more than food, except for more food. I was starving this morning I ordered breakfast from this place. I had never seen it on GrubHub before and the other options were a mix of "who the hell are you," "why is this even an option," and "Oh no, your food is gross." I ordered the farmers breakfast with french toast, a side of hand carved ham and a side of corned beef hash. Yes, just enough to unleash my inner (and outer) fat girl. Everything was absolutely delicious. The eggs were cooked to my liking, the bacon was crisp, the sausage were good and the home fries were not mushy or burned. The ham was thicker than deli ham and tasted awesome and the corned beef hash was unreal...in a good way. The best thing about my meal was the French toast. OMG!!! It was made with French bread instead of some soggy ass sandwich bread. It was buttery and slightly sweet. I didn't even have to use the sugar-free syrup I requested. The only thing I did not devour in its entirety was the home fries and the wheat toast since my voluptuous belly does indeed have a capacity. I was wanting lunch/brunch in the South Boston part of town, and my Yelp search turned up My Diner! It is a short distance off from West Broadway, yet it was a whole different industrial neighborhood in which we found ourselves. Some streets do not allow parking, so I had to drive around a bit before I found somewhere legal to leave my car for a few hours on a Saturday. My Diner is located on a corner spot. Once I made my way within, I found it to be pretty good sized, but tables were best situated for parties of four or two, and there was a counter ideal for the singleton diner or for pairs. We wanted to try the well touted hashes,so we got both by ordering the Homemade turkey hash & eggs $6.50 with a side of corned beef hash $3.25. The meats in both hashes were completely pulverized and cooked up into a thick patty with a crisp crust. One dc claimed that hashes are meant to be eaten with the eggs, and thus the overtly saltiness. I forget which of the two hashes I preferred, but the winner of the day was clearly Ela's Waffle $6.95 Peanut butter, honey, banana, whipped cream. It was much more than the sum of its parts, and was absolutely delicious. To sample their French toast, we also got the Farmer's $7.75 3 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, 2 pancakes or 2 French toast, home fries & toast. For the toast, we were given the options of white, wheat, rye, raisin. The bacon strips weren't particularly crispy, so I preferred the sausage links. The French toast were two mismatched slices, a little tough, and nothing that I would yearn to get again. Yes, Elsa's Waffle was the winner. And it wasn't like the waffle itself was anything special - it wasn't one of those lovely crisp tender specimens. But the whole combination of ingredients was just terrific. Best vegan breakfast ever! This was our first time having a pancake with a vegan omelet with Daiya cheese, vegan bacon and a ton of veggies. We also had a tofu scramble and both meals came with raisin bread toast and home fries. My spouse has been a vegan for 22 years and she's still having new vegan experiences... Another good diner in the Melrose area. A few pros: Benedict comes with three eggs, French toast made with baguette, pricing is pretty reasonable for the area. My Diner has all the raw materials to be very good, I hope it will survive in its slightly awkward location - maybe some oak grove commuters will stop by. I'm not from the area. I'm out here for a little vacation for my 31st birthday. I have been to many diners and can say that most don't offer iced coffee, so that was a plus. However my boyfriend did not like the pancakes and the food just didn't agree with his stomach altogether. I recommend getting eggs with cheese on them to give your taste buds an extra something to remember. Corned beef could have been scattered a little more but other than that... it was good. Breakfasts aren't going to blow your mind with originality - it's a spoon, forcripe'ssake - but they take pride in letting you know what makes the turkey in the turkey hash and eggs ($7) "My" turkey. Spoiler alert: it's vertically broasted. AHA approved! My meal of the aforementioned bird with stuffing, spuds, seasoning and spices that had the end result tasting like Thanksgiving came topped with three perfectly over medium eggs, two slices of wheat toast and a hearty pile of home fries. For those keeping score, My Diner's version of the loosely-interpreted side dish is quartered and roasted new potatoes. Her French toast was cut on an expert bias, resulting in long, thin, quickly griddled strips of lightly browned bread and not a micron of undercooked "egginess," so sez Kara G. My Yelp app has been one of those things I just can't live without, especially when I'm on vacation! This morning, we had some time before our conference so we took an Uber car over to a place close to the hotel, My Diner. The Yelp reviews were particularly good and the cost seemed way too reasonable. Catching the A street really makes you appreciate the exposed brick buildings this city has to offer. My Diner is located in one of those types of buildings and really brings a lot of character to the area. The inside is your very basic diner decor. The tiles, tables and chairs were definitely outdated, but if their intent was to go with a diner themed furniture, I think they hit the mark! Some of the art on the walls were a little weird. A wall of random flowers threw me off a bit. Overall, I'd say the place didn't really give a good first impression. The staff was definitely normal than professional but I noticed that the customers in today were regulars. The waitresses knew them by first name and kept saying, "see you again, Joe," or "Until next time, take it easy." That might have made the informal service valid. Nevertheless, I was ready to try some breakfast! For my meal, I got an orange juice for $1.95 and the Homemade Corned Beef Hash and Eggs for $6.50. The orange juice was thick and super concentrated, great for a morning pick me up! The corned beef hash was served with griled potato chunks and my choice of bread, I chose a bagel. The potatoes were grilled nicely! Some crispy parts, some soft parts, great balance.The corned beef hash was great! Lots of potato filler in it and some herbs which gave it a lot of flavor. I also chose 3 over easy eggs which only enhanced the entire experience. Definitely should try this out! The place was sketchy but showed off some good character, the staff was a bit informal, the prices were hard to beat and the food was great. Hmm...so I'm still scratching my head as to why this is 4.5-5 stars? Why oh why? I love hidden gems, great to grab deals like the next gal but I have to disagree with my fellow yelpers here. I didn't see anything out of an ordinary diner meal? Besides being totally confused when I entered about seating/waiting arrangements, the food, at best, is definitely diner style and quality. FOOD: We both ordered the Spanish Salsa and Cheese omelet. It definitely was sufficient. Great? I think that might be a stretch though. We also shared an order of the French toast. Not bad but again, decent but nothing to report home about. ADVICE: Spend an extra $5 somewhere else and get something you know will be infinitely better but hey, that's just me. If you're hungover and anything will do and you're in Southie, come here...er...that is, if there isn't a long line? Couple of MUCH better diners if you are willing to travel: North Street Grille in North End or Mad Hatter Café in Weymouth! read more

Venturing out into Southie in search of adventure and breakfast, I threw on a neck brace and a turtleneck to give me some girth, and jaunted over to My Diner for a shot at finding some locals on a warm Thursday morning. Shortly after sitting down, a group of police officers came in for breakfast as well, which lead me to believe that I had stumbled directly on the spot I'd been looking for. Throughout the meal I was tickled with gems of conversation between locals, from some playful banter between some regulars. and the police which is not appropriate for the scope of this review. Everyone but me seemed to be on a first name basis with each other, so I just sipped on my coffee and tried not to do anything to mess up the mood. In terms of food, there was a lot to be happy about! The turkey has was buttery delicious, and melted in my mouth with a sandwiching of cheese and egg to wrap it all up. $6.25 for breakfast combos? I was out of there under $10 for breakfast and a show- a deal if you ask me considering my hotel would have been $20 for a runny egg and a kick in the balls.
