I ordered eggplant parm in a bulkie roll to go. It was wrapped in 2 pieces of cellophane with sauce all over them and the bread. The person who wrapped it must have had sauce all over his hands. It also was not even warm. It was impossible to eat without wearing it! A gloppy mess put together by someone whose sloppy habits showed. I tried to take a bite in the car but it was impossible. Anthony's is a small Italian shop that serves sandwiches, pizza and other Italian food. There are no tables to eat at but the place is nice and clean. I have been here at least one other time so I knew this place was good, but maybe I forgot how good. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and an Italian on a bulkie. Thank god I only ordered the small because it was enormous. The sandwich is huge, there may have been 1 lb of meat on it. If too much meat is a thing this may have too much. But it is sliced thin and it was easy to bite through. The sandwich is delish. They slice the meat to order and the toppings were fresh. The slice of pizza was huge and only $4. I would call it bakery style pizza. The cheese is the star of the pizza and all of the flavor is in the cheese. The crust is soft but nice and there is only a thin layer of sauce that I couldn't really taste. For desert I got a thing of homemade stuffed cherry peppers. I loved them and can't wait to devour the rest of the container later tonight. read more

Been coming here for years. Usually no complaints other than the rude old man that takes the orders. But the last time I went, asked for an Italian with everything on it and hots on the side. Got no oil and vinegar, very few pickles and tomatoes, also no hots. But still got the rude old man. We moved to Stoneham back in 1978 and Anthony's has been a generational legend. Mom used to cook the meatballs on Saturday morning. Oh that delicious smell when you walked in. You can get a sandwich on a roll, sub roll or a braided roll. When I picked up my Italian on a braided roll I was shocked by the weight. I knew I had to put this beast on a scale.. 1lb 13 oz. Just pickles, tomatoes and light on the hots. I could only eat half on day one and finished it on day 2. I was feeling like Homer Simpsons and his sandwich. We ordered some take out yesterday for lunch. Very basic inside, but they're very quick! I got a steak and cheese and it was stuffed full, but could have used a little more cheese. When I returned to Stoneham a few years ago, I was able to return and get the very same wonderful treat that I remembered. This was supposed to be a chicken cutlet with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I called to confirm that cutlet was supposed to be hot and crispy. Mine was ice cold (like right out of the fridge cold) and soggy. Had to nuke it to eat it as I wasn't going to throw away a $15.00 sandwich. Best Italian sub I've ever had. I got it topped with everything and it balanced with the meat and cheese perfectly. They sliced the deli meat right after I put in my order, so it was super fresh! If you like hots definitely go for the relish. The sub is very large and heavy, included pics and you can see it was too big for my plate. I'm going to get at least 2-3 meals out of this personally (I'm a petite person). It is also very messy if you get it with everything, so don't try eating it in the car like I did because you're hungry, wait till you can get a proper plate to catch all the zesty toppings. I've been coming here for years, 1st off, BEST Italian subs in Mass that I've found! What I am very impressed and super grateful for is I called to place a sandwich tray order for Xmas Eve (and I called late in the season so this is my fault) and even though they were technically not taking anymore orders they still took my order and I didn't even have to beg and plead they just did it, I mean this place gives good old fashioned great customer service, that's what I'm talking about. If you haven't been here it's worth driving out of your way, there's nothing fancy, its a small place, the guys behind the counter are quick and to the point (as it should be) but dear lord they can make a fantastic Italian sub. Everything else there is fantastic but the italian is the one that you will try, then a few weeks later be thinking about it in the middle of the day and then make a 45 min drive just to go there and get that damn sub lol. read more

Stopped into this place twice and had a great experience with my food both times. Probably the best chicken cutlet I've ever eaten. First time I had chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella on a long roll and second time it was chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella roasted peppers and prosciutto (snapped a photo of that bad boy and posted it here). Met the owner and his wife who I felt were great people too. I stopped in one weekday because I heard that this was THE place to get an Italian sub. I lucked out in finding street parking nearby, so I knew that it was meant to be. When I walked into the shop, there was one person in front of me, and when I left, there were a few people behind me in line, so it wasn't packed per se, but they had a constant flow of customers. Anthony's Italian specialties is definitely a no-frills kind of place, but the food is good, the staff is friendly, and the portions are large. I've walked or driven by Anthony's countless times. It wasn't until this past year with that I stopped by to pick up subs. I've been there 3 times now... I've order salami, the Italian, and most recently the lobster roll. You can tell that Anthony's gets a lot of regulars. It's very casual in there with a lot of fun banter between the staff and customers. It's no frills, pick what you want, and we'll make it. For those who have gluten sensitivity, they do have some very good gluten free rolls, but the shop is not a gluten free shop. They can provide any cold-cuts or toppings that are gluten free but they don't specifically make gluten free items from scratch (e.g. you're out of luck if you wanted a gluten free chicken parm sub). As some people have noted, there's no shortage of meat and toppings in the subs. It's all very fresh and tastes great, but it can be a little difficult to eat unless you have the bite radius of a great white shark. That's probably the main reason for my 4/5. But it's definitely worth it. Most recently we tried the lobster roll. The large one is about $35 with tax. The amount of lobster is ridiculous - it can easily feed 2-3 people. While there is mayo, it wasn't overdone with mayo. The lobster was fresh tasting, through I have had some lobster rolls in the past where the lobster was a little sweeter. But don't let that steer you away from this sub. It's very good and well worth it. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other items. Just need to invest in some elastic waisted pants. read more

Anthony's is an institution, a shrine! I've been going there since the 70's when they first opened and Anthony's dad ran the operation. The fantastic quality and quantity has not changed. My go-to and their prized offering is the large Italian on a braided roll. I get it with everything except hots. Nothing compares! I also love their tuna with provolone. Years ago I loved their Italian calzone but they appear to no longer offer that as a regular menu item. I moved away from Stoneham 30 years ago but try to find an excuse a few times a year to swing by and pickup a few subs. Keep up the good work and don't change a thing! read more
