Being from NY I am pretty particular about my pizza. I will say that the crust was perfect! The closest I have ever come to NY pizza around here. However, it was way over packed with different cheeses. Margarita is best with fresh mozzarella, sauce, and basil. The tomato slices made it soggy and the extra cheese (parmesan?) made the pizza oily and gritty. I will come back but order plain cheese next time! I ordered Stuffed Shells with meat sauce for 11 dollars and what I received from Colombo's was appalling. I fished through the large container I was given to find 4 shells and the rest was meat, oily sauce, melted cheese and a majority of ricotta that was supposed to be inside the shells. I have never gone back to a restaurant with a walk out order but this warranted the drive. To be fair, the man behind the register looked at what I had brought back after I finished the shells, and profusely apologized, which I appreciated. I did receive my money back, but even so, the quality of this food for the people that order it out had to be reviewed. So disappointing. Looks like I need a new spot for Italian food. read more

This place had really gone down hill about four years ago, so my family and I stopped going. Today I decided to give them another try, and it was the worst decision I've made today. First of all, it took over an hour to be delivered. At 3pm on a weekday, I doubt they are that busy. Second of all, the pizza was a disaster. The driver had clearly placed my salad and fries on top of it, the box was visibly crushed, the cheese was stuck to the top of the box, and it had slid off the pizza (he must have been driving awful!). He clearly knew he screwed up by the way he rushed up the stairs didn't even say hi and ran away too quickly for me to say "why is this pizza box crushed?". But even if the box wasn't crushed, the pizza was barely cooked and would have sucked anyway. Very disappointed, for a $13 cheese pizza I expect WAY better than this. I won't make the mistake again, these guys just lost their chance at redeeming themselves. I got ordered from here two weeks ago, and it was ok. The crust was not crispy and the taste was just ok. I was not planning on ordering from here again, but I was in a pinch and this was my only option, so I ordered it today. Today... it was so good. The crust was thin and crispy and very tasty. I don't know who made the pizza today, but they should always be making it and teaching everyone else how to make it. I enjoyed every single bite. Decided to order on a Wednesday night since we just moved to the area. Order a large Margherita pizza for pickup and was ready in about 10 minutes. It was incredibly heavy with their regular cheese blend and the mozzarella (which was pretty tough) and sliced tomatoes. The crust was saturated with grease and we ended up not finishing it. Wanted to try this place since it had good reviews but I would definitely advise against the delivery for it. We ordered delivery from here and I was not impressed. I was happy because I didn't pay for it and it was on the boss, but man... I ordered the eggplant and mozzarella panini. Did not get a panini like I expected - definitely not hot pressed or anything. It was soggy in a baguette type bread like a hot sandwich. The eggplant was doused in oil and breadcrumbs so it didn't taste too great. I ended up adding my own pickles to the sandwich to make it taste a little better. I tried my friends fries too that came with her burger, and they were salty, fat and also soggy. Her burger also looked like it was some sort of frozen thing... so yeah definitely not impressed. I love this place. A large gives you huge slices, the sauce is flavorful and delicious. The only downside is the vegetable pizza gets soggy so next time I'll stick with a cheese pizza. I *love* the pizza at Columbo's, it's some of the best pizza I've had since I moved to Massachusetts from NYC. I've contemplated driving from Somerville to Reading just for this pizza. A large pie really is *large* there :). The salads are also very fresh and tasty. Columbo's is also really good at filling large orders, so I order from them whenever I need pizza for a large group at the library. The shop itself is tiny, not so great for large groups. However, it's nice and cozy to suit a small (3-4 person) group or a casual date. Depending on what you get, you can eat for as little as $2-$5, but dinners and such would be closer to $10+ w/tax. read more

The pizza offerings in that region mainly consisted of chain restaurant crap like "Papa Johns"...yuck. So, yes the Winter weather sucks, but with great food at Colombo's it makes living here more bearable. The pizza is New York style thin crust, and is delicious. They are always generous with the ingredients and the sauce is delicious. If you are a fan of cheese, ask for extra as they do go a little light on that key ingredient. I highly recommend their calzones as well. The small size is easily enough to feed 3 people, and comes in at under $12. We've been looking for a new pizza place and I came across Colombo's online. Decided to give it a try for delivery and boy are we disappointed. I got a white pizza and hubby got a cold sub. My pizza had absolutely zero flavor and the chicken was like rubber, it was like eating cardboard with garlic on it. This location is very tiny but quaint. The lunch crowd was small but considering it was election day and plus a gorgeous day too. It probably wasn't a good day to judge. Now, granted, I'm not a big fan of what I consider New York style pizza (big, flat, and greasy), so this just may not have been the place for me... It was definitely big, but the cheese had a bright sheen of oil and the crust really didn't taste like much. I think that's really it... I need a good crust. Coming from NYC, I had an opportunity to enjoy some delicious pizzas. I searched awhile in the Boston region for something of that caliber and I believe I found it. I have been coming to this place for over a year now and have never had a bad meal. They stick to a typical pizza menu that you can find anywhere. Their execution however is what makes this pizzeria really stand out. Both their pizzas and calzones are loaded with flavor and you can tell this is prepared and cooked by someone who knows what a proper balance of ingredients should be. Traditional ingredients but with a punch of flavor packed in each bite. Appetizers are very good, prices are more then fair, and the 'zas are always outstanding. I drive by this place everyday after work to get home. I'm glad that I gave this place a try tonight. I ordered a triple bypass (double 1/2lb burger). When I called in my order, I asked for an extra side order of fries, but the person who took my order told me that the burger comes with quite a lot of fries. Thank god I listened to him because the box was stuffed with fries. They had to tape the lid down! The burger was big and juicy! The fries were perfectly seasoned. I moved to Reading a month and a half ago, and drive by this place a lot on my way home. It's fairly unassuming from the outside, so I probably never would've given it a shot. I mean, pizza places are dime-a-dozen in the burbs. So, after reading Yelp reviews, I stopped in a couple nights ago. I really couldn't have been happier with the pizza. A large lasted my wife and I two meals, and I'm the kind of guy that likes to eat. It had a ton of toppings, and wasn't the usually greasy Greek pizza you get at most places. I'm not going to say it was the best pizza I've ever had, but it was near the top. In terms of Mom and Pop local establishments in New England, though, this place is definitely worth a shot. read more

I've shopped at Atlantic (just around the corner) for years, but I'd never set foot in Colombo's until yesterday. I had lunch with colleagues and we all agreed it was a good take. This was my first visit at the restaurant and I received a warm and friendly greeting from Art one of the co-owners who shared with me that they make the best "Italian Style Pizza" and went on to tell me that they make and prepare all their own Dough, Sauce and "special" Cheese combination fresh daily. Being somewhat of a "Pizza Connoisseur" I had to see if it was as good as he made it sound. Let me confirm that Art is indeed a man of his word and their Pizza exceeded my already high expectations that I was anticipating.
