I love Surf - I work around the corner so I have had a few work dinners over here and it always hits the spot. We got a bunch if appetizers - started with the calamari which just has such a good flavor with the marinara and cherry pepper rings in it, then the crab rangoon dip which was okay but not my favorite, the portion was really small with a ton of a chips but no dip. We also got the crispy green beans which are exactly what you expect, I do wish they had a bit more seasoning because I don't love the wasabi dipping sauce they come with. We then got the jalapeno and bacon wrapped scallops, as well as the seared pork gyozas which are by far the best appetizer on the menu - the chili slaw it lays on has the most insane flavor and the crispy outside of the gyoza is just to die for. We all got various meals but me and a friend split the hot honey salmon sushi roll and the umami veggie sushi roll - both were amazing!! I will always get the umami, as basic as it is the flavor is just unreal. Only negative thing I have to say is that the service was very very slow, for a Monday night at 7pm, it was busy but not busy enough to not be greeted at the table for 25 minutes, then wait for drinks for 20 minutes and then not get to put our order in until an hour of sitting at the table, so that was a bit disappointing but first time we have had this issue. read more

Tons of room at 1600 on a Wednesday. Lobster roll was a good size, tasted good, didn't skimp on the lobster meat, buttery toasted bread and came with several options for a side. Went there yesterday. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant, from the wait staff to the food to the place itself. First off, the restaurant is beautiful, pretty big, lovely decor and you are far enough away from other diners that you can hear yourself speak. Second, the with staff. We had Anna who was WONDERFUL. Not intrusive, just nice enough. AND, she carried a totally full Grey Goose Dirty Martini to our table with not one drop spilled. I just do not know how people can do that!!! The food. First off, I got the crispy Brussel sprout Ceaser salad. All I can say is I have never had a better salad. Then, the lobster entree with asparagus and rice and whatever they cooked it all in. Second try here and it was a full 180 from my first. Had a nice evening here on a rainy day outside. The inside was very cute and clean. We were seated and put in some orders, I'm very grateful for all the gluten free friendly options! I'm celiac and I felt very safe. Every dish for me they said "gluten free". We started with the RI Calamari. It was crispy, some spice and was delicious! Huge huge portion! I thought it was odd to have the marinara at the bottom but still wonderful. For our entrees my mom had the buttermilk chicken. She said it was incredible and one of the best things she ate on this trip. I kept it light with the seafood trio. Very disappointing and misleading advertising. The sign prominently advertises "Buck A Shuck," but the critical detail that the promotion is only available on the 1st Wednesday of the month is written so small that it's nearly impossible to notice. I only realized the restriction after arriving, which felt like a bait-and-switch. If a promotion has significant limitations, those limitations should be displayed as clearly as the offer itself. Customers shouldn't have to hunt for fine print on a sidewalk sign. The ambiance and entire look of the restaurant is gorgeous, high ceilings, beautiful furnishings, also teamwork and respect among the staff. From what o observed the senior staff in charge enjoy working together and the younger less experienced and less professional staff get away with their work because they are led by good leaders giving them a chance to learn. This was a disappointing experience I had brunch here and for the first 10 minutes, nobody even acknowledged us, even to give us water, even though the restaurant was close to empty and there were three waitresses who didn't look busy. My husband and myself went there to celebrate a wedding anniversary after seeing it featured on the Phantom Gourmet and we had a very tasty meal. We shared the Surf salad and it was big enough for both of us to have a nice helping of. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with pouring the drinks of water we kept needed filling and our meals came in a timely manner. Went to Surf in Woburn last night. I wanted to love it. I really did. The space is really cool. The parking? Not so much. But luckily, on a Tuesday, it was really quiet around the area when we went for a 630 reservation. We did not need a 630 reservation on a Tuesday. There were probably six tables filled. He said it tasted like gasoline and actually had to send it back. The first for him he said. He has never had to return a drink before., He ordered a white wine instead. The waitress came back and wanted feedback as to what he didn't like about the mai tai, so she could tell the bartender. Which I thought was nice, but a little more than needed. I got the sangria. It talks about a watermelon purée. honestly? It was very sweet, but very, very weak. I would try it again because I just think it was a bad pour. We ordered a crabcake for the appetizer, and Catherine talked us into getting to because she said they were small. When they came to the table? We could've shared one. And at $20 apiece.( or might have been $18) a hefty for two appetizers. He got the New England seafood trio? I think that's what it was called. He said it was good, it came in something that looked like a pie plate lol. However, I thought the portions of each item were on the small side. But that's just me. I got the lobster Kristina. Wanted to treat myself for something fun. It was the middle of a 1.25 lobster. And some sort of sauce with rice and asparagus. Was it good? Yes. The lobster taste great although it definitely wasn't anything more than a 1 pound lobster. And if it was? It was definitely a new shell. Because I didn't see any claw meat at all. Except for one that was teeny tiny. A good amount of rice. Too much rice. Which was sloppy because whatever the sauce was that they put over over the lobster, made the rice swim in it. Enjoyed this place so much. I have been endlessly been craving sushi for months now and this place did not disappoint. The star of the meal was the Pressed Spicy Oshi Tuna. It wasn't in traditional sushi roll form. It was on a leaf with seasonings. It was the perfect blend of sweet and salty and savory and spicy, crunchy and chewy. The rainbow roll was fine. Has a classier vibe than the Portsmouth one (but no ocean views cuz we in Woburn) and the space is massive and airy with the tall ceilings. Service was very attentive and we got the bloody mary with 2 shrimp, crab cake, the Korean BBQ scallops and the blueberry crisp. Bloody mary was decked out with 2 giant shrimp, celery, and a big pickle stick with a hot pepper, okra, cornichon and a spicy olive. The mix was a little on the sweet side, but generally enjoyable. Crab cake was crispy on the outside and soft with a decent amount of crab on the inside and tasted great with the aioli. The star was the BBQ scallops - tenderly cooked to perfection in an addicting and decadently buttery cream sauce (not spicy at all) with potato puree and lightly charred green beans. The atmosphere is the best part. Surf feels like a modern, trendy place to be in. It's pretty big. There's semi-outdoor seating. Tables are spaced far enough apart to feel private. The food was just OK. Sushi was really mediocre. Nothing impressive about the flavors. I felt like I could get this at any average sushi spot. Lobster fries were the best part. They're covered in lobster bisque with chunks of lobster meat. Mussels were just OK. I think I've had better everywhere else. Service was OK. It didn't feel like they were running smoothly. Overall it's worth a visit. Although it feels average, it wasn't bad. I just couldn't find a menu item that blew me away. Came here for a late date night with my girlfriend and needless to say, we had an awesome time! Our server was extremely funny, attentive, and friendly. We ordered the calamari, salad, salmon nigiri, poke bowl and scallops. The calamari was a huge portion, very crispy and flavorful. There were battered jalapeños which I threw me off a bit because I didn't know which was which until I bit into it. My girlfriend said the salad was delicious and the dressing tasted very good. The salmon nigiri was fresh and the rice had a pleasant texture. I feel like they could have had a better brand of wasabi though. It looked very artificial. The poke bowl was actually surprisingly tasty. I didn't expect for it to come out in this form but the crisps gave a nice texture to each bite. I do wish there was a little more rice and wished they didn't pack it down so much. The rice was a little crushed. The tuna was extremely fresh and pleasant. Really disappointed to be leaving this review but frankly I think it's worth stating.. this place was really special to me and my close friend. It used to be so good and lively. They had scorned me badly for my service dog my past visit, but I let it go because I'm aware that not all disabilities are visible to everyone. But I went today for lunch, with high anticipation and excitement, and the manager, the same one that had scolded me for my "pet" the previous time, did not even make eye contact and was very cold and unwelcoming. And our server seemed annoyed to have us. I get it that sometimes servers profile based off whether or not a table will tip. I worked in the service industry for years so I know how that goes. I know my skin is brown and Im Latin/Southeast Asian presenting so I'm sure it wasn't the wealthy table she would've liked. But I felt like I was serving her in that I was being super nice and almost begging for her approval? She was annoyed the whole service. They charged me $15 for the chicken to add to the salad instead of the $9 it was listed on the menu. When I pointed it out the server acted as if this was such an undue burden for her to mitigate. Frankly I'm over the entitlement of this establishment. We were very loyal patrons but I will not be returning. And I'm sure they'll make some snide remark about not needing my business anyway. Went surf on a Saturday night after making reservations, not sure if they were needed. We were sat down immediately, which should happen with reservations but doesn't always. The waitress was very good but not great with recommendations, though made up for it with good timing. She left enough breathing room between visits to the table but didn't abandon us either. We split a bunch of small plates. Honestly, the sushi was the best. We got two different types of rolls. The spicy tuna was great and got a roll with roe tuna and salmon which was also very good. We also got the lobster fries, which were only ok. Even though those are typically recommended, I would skip them. The saltiness and richness of the fries overpowers the lobster and the only flavor you get is from the poutine style lobster gravy. The drinks were also good.
