Tons of room at 1600 on a Wednesday. Lobster roll was a good size, tasted good, didn't skimp on the lobster meat, buttery toasted bread and came with several options for a side. Very disappointing and misleading advertising. The sign prominently advertises "Buck A Shuck," but the critical detail that the promotion is only available on the 1st Wednesday of the month is written so small that it's nearly impossible to notice. I only realized the restriction after arriving, which felt like a bait-and-switch. If a promotion has significant limitations, those limitations should be displayed as clearly as the offer itself. Customers shouldn't have to hunt for fine print on a sidewalk sign. Second try here and it was a full 180 from my first. Had a nice evening here on a rainy day outside. The inside was very cute and clean. We were seated and put in some orders, I'm very grateful for all the gluten free friendly options! I'm celiac and I felt very safe. Every dish for me they said "gluten free". We started with the RI Calamari. It was crispy, some spice and was delicious! Huge huge portion! I thought it was odd to have the marinara at the bottom but still wonderful. Met friends for a birthday celebration. A couple of us early birds had a drink at the bar--the manager came by, asked if we were waiting to be seated, and delivered an "extra" platter of fried calamari! WIN-WIN! The waiter, his name was Stone, he was great no complaints there. The bloody Mary's were not as good as I thought they'd be. Didn't even taste like tomato juice or horseradish just tasted very sweet. Shrimp cocktail was OK. The Alaskan king crab cocktail tasted like it was days old, very fishy and mushy. The seafood platter trio. The scallops were pink in the middle, not even cooked. Great plaza where this spot is located. Nice location near an open back area with live music too. Plenty of parking. The restaurant was well lit, spacious, and busy. The host and our server were both very friendly. The food came out quick and was delicious. We had a variety of food from calamari appetizer to lobster roll to fish and chips to tacos to fish dinner. It was all very good. They also have a sushi bar and raw bar. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the server forgot to bring me my drink that I ordered. My husband and myself went there to celebrate a wedding anniversary after seeing it featured on the Phantom Gourmet and we had a very tasty meal. We shared the Surf salad and it was big enough for both of us to have a nice helping of. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with pouring the drinks of water we kept needed filling and our meals came in a timely manner. The atmosphere was dimly lit but comfortable to see around us and we had good seats where the noise from those around us were not too loud. Enjoyed this place so much. I have been endlessly been craving sushi for months now and this place did not disappoint. The star of the meal was the Pressed Spicy Oshi Tuna. Went to Surf in Woburn last night. I wanted to love it. I really did. The space is really cool. The parking? Not so much. But luckily, on a Tuesday, it was really quiet around the area when we went for a 630 reservation. We did not need a 630 reservation on a Tuesday. There were probably six tables filled. Catherine was our waitress. She was really nice. Really helpful. Attentive, but not in our face. That's kind of we are the wow factor ended. My brother got a mai tai. He said it tasted like gasoline and actually had to send it back. The first for him he said. He has never had to return a drink before., He ordered a white wine instead. The waitress came back and wanted feedback as to what he didn't like about the mai tai, so she could tell the bartender. Which I thought was nice, but a little more than needed. I got the sangria. It talks about a watermelon purée. honestly? It was very sweet, but very, very weak. I would try it again because I just think it was a bad pour. We ordered a crabcake for the appetizer, and Catherine talked us into getting to because she said they were small. When they came to the table? We could've shared one. And at $20 apiece.( or might have been $18) a hefty for two appetizers. He got the New England seafood trio? I think that's what it was called. He said it was good, it came in something that looked like a pie plate lol. However, I thought the portions of each item were on the small side. But that's just me. I got the lobster Kristina. Wanted to treat myself for something fun. It was the middle of a 1.25 lobster. And some sort of sauce with rice and asparagus. Was it good? Yes. The lobster taste great although it definitely wasn't anything more than a 1 pound lobster. And if it was? It was definitely a new shell. Because I didn't see any claw meat at all. Really disappointed to be leaving this review but frankly I think it's worth stating.. this place was really special to me and my close friend. It used to be so good and lively. They had scorned me badly for my service dog my past visit, but I let it go because I'm aware that not all disabilities are visible to everyone. But I went today for lunch, with high anticipation and excitement, and the manager, the same one that had scolded me for my "pet" the previous time, did not even make eye contact and was very cold and unwelcoming. And our server seemed annoyed to have us. I get it that sometimes servers profile based off whether or not a table will tip. I worked in the service industry for years so I know how that goes. I know my skin is brown and Im Latin/Southeast Asian presenting so I'm sure it wasn't the wealthy table she would've liked. But I felt like I was serving her in that I was being super nice and almost begging for her approval? She was annoyed the whole service. They charged me $15 for the chicken to add to the salad instead of the $9 it was listed on the menu. When I pointed it out the server acted as if this was such an undue burden for her to mitigate. Frankly I'm over the entitlement of this establishment. We were very loyal patrons but I will not be returning. And I'm sure they'll make some snide remark about not needing my business anyway. I really wanted to try their clam chowder, so I ordered a bowl, and I also ordered one of their salad with Brussel sprouts. Their clam chowder did taste more like potato soup, but it was delicious. Went surf on a Saturday night after making reservations, not sure if they were needed. We were sat down immediately, which should happen with reservations but doesn't always. The waitress was very good but not great with recommendations, though made up for it with good timing. She left enough breathing room between visits to the table but didn't abandon us either. We split a bunch of small plates. Honestly, the sushi was the best. We got two different types of rolls. The spicy tuna was great and got a roll with roe tuna and salmon which was also very good. We also got the lobster fries, which were only ok. Even though those are typically recommended, I would skip them. The saltiness and richness of the fries overpowers the lobster and the only flavor you get is from the poutine style lobster gravy. The drinks were also good. Bloody mary was decked out with 2 giant shrimp, celery, and a big pickle stick with a hot pepper, okra, cornichon and a spicy olive. The mix was a little on the sweet side, but generally enjoyable. Crab cake was crispy on the outside and soft with a decent amount of crab on the inside and tasted great with the aioli. The star was the BBQ scallops - tenderly cooked to perfection in an addicting and decadently buttery cream sauce (not spicy at all) with potato puree and lightly charred green beans. The blueberry crisp was nice and warm and had a good layer of crumble / crisp on top with a small ball of ice cream. It was a bit too much for me but my friend liked it. The atmosphere is the best part. Surf feels like a modern, trendy place to be in. It's pretty big. There's semi-outdoor seating. Tables are spaced far enough apart to feel private. The food was just OK. Sushi was really mediocre. Nothing impressive about the flavors. I felt like I could get this at any average sushi spot. Lobster fries were the best part. They're covered in lobster bisque with chunks of lobster meat. Mussels were just OK. I think I've had better everywhere else. Service was OK. It didn't feel like they were running smoothly. Overall it's worth a visit. Although it feels average, it wasn't bad. I just couldn't find a menu item that blew me away. Brought my father there for lunch, we got the fisherman's platter and lobster roll. The staff was amazing, billy was our bartender he was so accommodating, answered all of our questions. Also two of the servers in the area, introduced themselves and were extremely helpful and friendly. This establishment was so welcoming, clean and friendly. Came here for a late date night with my girlfriend and needless to say, we had an awesome time! Our server was extremely funny, attentive, and friendly. We ordered the calamari, salad, salmon nigiri, poke bowl and scallops. The calamari was a huge portion, very crispy and flavorful. There were battered jalapeños which I threw me off a bit because I didn't know which was which until I bit into it. My girlfriend said the salad was delicious and the dressing tasted very good. The salmon nigiri was fresh and the rice had a pleasant texture. I feel like they could have had a better brand of wasabi though. It looked very artificial. The poke bowl was actually surprisingly tasty. I didn't expect for it to come out in this form but the crisps gave a nice texture to each bite. I do wish there was a little more rice and wished they didn't pack it down so much. The rice was a little crushed. The tuna was extremely fresh and pleasant. The scallops were a little over cooked and salty. I wish the bread was crispier so that it would be good to dip in the sauce but it was too chewy. She brought my drink back to me and said she added water and triple sec and that the drink was indeed all vodka because" that's what a cosmo is " um, no it is not. Learn how to make a proper drink. Our server was not busy, in fact we could see him most of the time talking to the other servers (it was early in the evening). Yet, we had to try and catch him to get refills on our waters and drinks at least two times. At the end of dinner we overhead another server offering the specials, and none were told to us. The food was pretty good. My miso soup was lukewarm. My sushi was pretty good! And the crab Rangoon dip was delicious. My husband had the clam chowder which was great. He had a cheeseburger that he said was overcooked..the server also never asked him how he wanted it cooked. But I guess you can't expect a great burger at a seafood restaurant.
