We were in the are for a sick friend so we didn't expect much but we aimed high we wanted seafood!! This place didn't disappoint with great varied menu ; great ambience and nice server. We totally enjoyed it the lobster roll was delicious....my other half devoured it...my baked seafood platter was perfectly done the scallops were the best I've had in a very long time . Definitely a place to go.

Baked Seafood Trio

I wish I visited Surf sooner! It's a great spot for sit-down seafood! It was beautifully decorated and the service was good. What We Got: - Baked Seafood Trio: Subbed the veggie for asparagus. Enjoyed the scallop, shrimp, and haddock combination. Very buttery if that's up your alley. Ginger Scallion Shrimp Burger: It was fine, nothing too amazing Clam Chowder: Very good! A little more watery if you enjoy that Mussels: Our fave dish! Love the sauce that the mussels are braised in. So good! Oysters: Fresh and tasty. Sushi: I would avoid. It's not that good and the size of the roll is super small compared to the price. Would definitely come back to try more dishes!

Reliably great food and service. I've been here a number of times for lunch and dinner, and it never disappoints. The menu only lists "Oysters" but on our bill our half-dozen order was listed as 2x of three different kinds, we'll be sure to ask which specific oysters are available next time and take our pick! Significant parking lot, but it's shared with a number of other businesses so sometimes you have a park a slight walk away from the door.

Lobster roll with Cole slaw.

Tons of room at 1600 on a Wednesday. Lobster roll was a good size, tasted good, didn't skimp on the lobster meat, buttery toasted bread and came with several options for a side. I got the Cole slaw which was also good as well. No complaints. Service at the bar was continuously great throughout my dinner there. Good spot!

Second try here and it was a full 180 from my first. Had a nice evening here on a rainy day outside. The inside was very cute and clean. We were seated and put in some orders, I'm very grateful for all the gluten free friendly options! I'm celiac and I felt very safe. Every dish for me they said "gluten free". We started with the RI Calamari. It was crispy, some spice and was delicious! Huge huge portion! I thought it was odd to have the marinara at the bottom but still wonderful. For our entrees my mom had the buttermilk chicken. She said it was incredible and one of the best things she ate on this trip. I kept it light with the seafood trio. Smaller portion but very delicious, the scallops were perfect and sweet! Everything was wonderful and I'm so glad for the opportunity to try this place again.

Ginger scallion Shrimp burger

Great location. The venue had plenty of space of and also has an outdoor area. My server Eric was very attentive and helpful. I ordered the Brussels sprouts Caesar salad and ginger scallion shrimp burger. Food was delicious and flavorful. This was a great place to dine and I would certainly come back when I come back to town.

Met friends for a birthday celebration. A couple of us early birds had a drink at the bar--the manager came by, asked if we were waiting to be seated, and delivered an "extra" platter of fried calamari! WIN-WIN! I do love the vibe here and have come a few times in the past. Food and drinks are always delish (which makes up for the terrible parking shortage in this shopping center). Our server, Jeri, was super attentive and checked back often to our little secluded alcove section. The crème brûlée with pineapple compote was the best thing I've eaten all month!

Lobster spaghetti

Reliable and solid seafood restaurant with a wide menu. Love that you can get anything from sushi to traditional seafood, but wouldn't say any particular dish knocked my socks off. Nonetheless a good meal out, especially for a larger group and would recommend. Only notes would be that service was a bit slow and it the value is a bit on the pricier side. The lobster spaghetti was a bit lacking of lobster for one of the priciest dishes!

Sneaky Advertising

Very disappointing and misleading advertising. The sign prominently advertises "Buck A Shuck," but the critical detail that the promotion is only available on the 1st Wednesday of the month is written so small that it's nearly impossible to notice. I only realized the restriction after arriving, which felt like a bait-and-switch. If a promotion has significant limitations, those limitations should be displayed as clearly as the offer itself. Customers shouldn't have to hunt for fine print on a sidewalk sign. The business may technically disclose the restriction, but the way it is presented is misleading and resulted in a frustrating experience.

I came here with a large party for a birthday dinner. I mentioned to our waiter that it was my friend's birthday, but not a single staff member acknowledged it. On top of that, we were still charged for the desserts. Most places I've been to will usually comp a dessert for the birthday guest. Small gestures like that go a long way. As for the food: Highlights * Lobster Maki Rolls * Lobster Spaghetti * Mussels Needs Improvement * Tempura Haddock Tacos: The sweet chili slaw was overwhelming and made the haddock soggy. Serving the sauce on the side would help keep the tempura crisp. * Calamari: There was so much marinara that the calamari at the bottom became soggy. * Crispy Dragon Shrimp: Our least favorite dish. The shrimp wasn't crispy and had very little batter. Our waiter was kind and attentive, and the atmosphere was great, but the food itself didn't leave a lasting impression.

Mussels small plate 10/10

Amazing service, my server Shannon really made our whole experience phenomenal. I highly recommend the brussel sprout Caesar salad and the mussels small plate. The ambiance and entire look of the restaurant is gorgeous, high ceilings, beautiful furnishings, also teamwork and respect among the staff. From what o observed the senior staff in charge enjoy working together and the younger less experienced and less professional staff get away with their work because they are led by good leaders giving them a chance to learn. This is how restaurants should run.

Great plaza where this spot is located. Nice location near an open back area with live music too. Plenty of parking. The restaurant was well lit, spacious, and busy. The host and our server were both very friendly. The food came out quick and was delicious. We had a variety of food from calamari appetizer to lobster roll to fish and chips to tacos to fish dinner. It was all very good. They also have a sushi bar and raw bar. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the server forgot to bring me my drink that I ordered. In general it was a great experience and we would go back.

Sangria
Jen J.

We sat in the enclosed patio on a beautiful sunny day. Our server was amazing, very attentive. We got lobster fries, lobster roll and coleslaw. The drinks were fantastic! The sangria with watermelon purée was the first watermelon drink iv actually enjoyed, it's real watermelon not the fake syrup that tastes weird. Definitely going to go back!

**November 2025: Saturday Night Visit**…read more My friend and I had been driving all day and were staying at the Hyatt Medford Hotel just down the street. The Medford/Boston area seemed to all have limited parking so we were looking for a dinner option that didn't require us to drive since we were sick of circling around. Matsuba Izakaya was just a 5 minute walk away from the hotel so we we braved the cold for some delicious food. When we arrived at the restaurant we were escorted toward the back of the restaurant which was very warm and inviting. I ordered the mini omakase for $55 and was super impressed with the presentation and variety of seafood. I was presented a box of 9 different seafood offerings: uni, toro, salmon belly, fish liver, raw shrimp & fried shrimp head tempura, scallops. yellowtail, and squid. The uni and toro were fantastic, and I enjoyed everything else except for the salmon belly. For some reason the salmon belly wasn't ultra creamy - maybe it wasn't thawed enough, which is a shame because I love salmon sashimi. Nevertheless, for the presentation and price I was really impressed with the variety. It also came with a miso soup which really warmed me up quickly.

Matsuba is probably one of two Japanese restaurants that is located in Medford. If I had to compare the two, I prefer Matsuba over its rival. Customer service and more importantly, quality of food is better at Matsuba over the neighboring Yoki Japanese Restaurant & Bar. Customer service was top notch when I visited for dinner with my family. The sushi was very fresh. I do regret not trying their yakitori since it is an izakaya. When we visited, we ordered monkfish liver, agadasi tofu, Naruto, katsu curry, broiled yellow tail collar, salmon ikura don, and fried tempura. See my pictures.

One of those backup plans was Sushi Kappo in Arlington. Mind you, we got here about 1/2hr before closing and they didn't give us the side-eye for anything. They welcomed us in and seated us without hesitation. First off, the vibe. Kappo is decked out in this deep, dark royal blue- and I mean all the walls are rocking it. What softens all this blue is the light wood furniture and that wooden divider separating the entrance from the dining area with a minimalist and stylish feel. My daughter and I weren't exactly starving, but we definitely had room to nibble on a few things. And since we're both Pescatarians, sharing plates was a no-brainer. We started things off with a mushroom salad over greens, then 2 pieces each of mackerel and Japanese red snapper nigiri followed by a grilled salmon and tofu wrapped in a bamboo leaf dish. Girllll... everything was fresh and straight-up delicious. As for service, top-tier hospitality, period! The staff was polite, gracious and attentive. And here's the kicker- we literally closed the place down! They were cleaning up the other tables, getting ready to call it a night and not once did we feel rushed. Nothing but kindness from start to finish. And that, my friends, is how you leave a lasting impression. Great food, chill atmosphere and hospitality that makes you wanna come back.

Looking at the sushi at the next table, it looked like bigger slices of fish. Service: they don't take reservations so we waited an hour to be seated. We love all of the different salads to start, including the avacado. If you have picky eaters, they make what seem like in-house chicken nuggets for our little one. The shrimp tempura and half dozen wings are always a must. Again, the selection for something at lunch like the special rolls could be more robust. There are 13 special rolls at dinner while only 5 at lunch. But you can still get fish at lunch, just not sashimi. The staff has always been very helpful and welcoming, timing a meal well when you need refills or dishes taken away. We will continue coming back here for many years to come, it's almost always busy so you know they are doing something right.
