This was always a place we wanted to try, but still quite out the way where we haven't bit the bullet. When my birthday was right around the corner, we thought, what perfect time! Well, my birthday ended up being pretty busy so we pushed this off a couple of months for a special date night. I saw online that there were only a few private honeycomb seats, and since this was the whole appeal for us, I wanted to make sure we got one of those cool tables. I ended up calling them a week ahead to make a reservation, specifically for a honeycomb seat. They informed me that they cannot guarantee it, but they will make a note of it and try their best.  Fast forward to the ramen day, we managed to arrive about half an hour earlier than our reservation. I figured we'd wait inside just in case our table wasn't ready yet. We were greeted by the hostess, who, was relieved that we did show up early because she had one table left that she was holding for us. Alas, we got top row of the honeycomb! That experience alone was worth it. It was super cool with the privacy and having our own control center to call for a waiter. There were other standard seats in the center of the restaurant, as well as curtained-off seating on the other perimeter, which offered another option of privacy. I ordered the omurice, another popular dish I've seen on Instagram. This place was a lot easier to get to than Japan. My fiancé ordered a ramen. My meal came with a bao appetizer, a Thai tea, and a dessert. The table also had some spices/seasonings and hot sauce. Our food came out fairly quick and we were eager to dig in. My rice was presented by the waiter, who sliced the egg in half, opened up the gooey insides, and poured gravy all over it. I could not wait! It was pretty tasty and the egg was a fantastic consistency. I quickly filled up and was stuffed. My fiancé has mentioned that his ramen was probably one of the best bowls he's had in any restaurant (he still mentions it to this day).  Overall, I think the hype was definitely worth is. The unique experience that the seats offered was accompanied well by the delicious food. We would love to come back, but I fear we may not get the cool table, which is just the cherry on top. The food definitely holds its own so it wouldn't be too much of a disappointment if we missed our chances.

This is a chain originating from Taiwan, and the food definitely reflects that with a more Chinese taste. We ordered the tonkotsu and spicy miso combo. The tonkotsu had that distinct flavor profile, and the spicy miso tasted like it had a Chinese BBQ base. While they have a lot of food variety on the menu, the taste overall was just mediocre. The highlight of the place is definitely the atmosphere. The interior was very cute and fun, featuring very unique seating against the wall. It's a cool spot to check out for the environment and the fun setup, but if you are looking for deep, traditional ramen flavors, the food itself is nothing special.

This causes the fish to lose some of its pristine texture and moisture and become slightly mealy or mushy (the exception being the fattier fish such as the sanma). I was presented a box of 9 different seafood offerings: uni, toro, salmon belly, fish liver, raw shrimp & fried shrimp head tempura, scallops. yellowtail, and squid. The uni and toro were fantastic, and I enjoyed everything else except for the salmon belly. For some reason the salmon belly wasn't ultra creamy - maybe it wasn't thawed enough, which is a shame because I love salmon sashimi. Nevertheless, for the presentation and price I was really impressed with the variety. It also came with a miso soup which really warmed me up quickly.

Customer service was top notch when I visited for dinner with my family. The sushi was very fresh. I do regret not trying their yakitori since it is an izakaya. There are 13 special rolls at dinner while only 5 at lunch. But you can still get fish at lunch, just not sashimi. The staff has always been very helpful and welcoming, timing a meal well when you need refills or dishes taken away. This dish proved a bit too oily; the dip could only somewhat ameliorate. The ramen had decent thin noodles with a nice bite. The eggs arrived textbook- jammy yolk and marinade staining the whites. The broth itself, like many tonkotsu broths in America, lacked richness and sufficient flavor. I ordered mine medium spicy. It added flavor, but not much heat.

And, the food is delicious. We usually sit together as a family in the main dining hall. But everyone was out of town one day, so I ended up sitting at the bar. Here is my hot and sour soup! The bartender was very friendly and he knew everyone! It was like his group of regulars - which tells you they enjoy coming back. There was also a ton of takeout business, which I can see us doing in the future. Happy that China Sky is in our town and look forward to being back soon.
