Gluten free subs are good but be warned they come with an up charge of 3.75 for the roll. The first order was the grilled chicken and a BLT turkey sub. The grilled chicken with avocado was the winner. The turkey was ok but wasn't as flavorful as the grilled chicken sub. Service was great and they sell the gluten free rolls as well as have side dishes clearly marked gluten free. Overall a good place for a sandwich before hitting the beach but not cheap if your gluten free. read more

Starving, I was starving! Stopped in to this little deli as it was the first thing I saw as my blood sugar was fading fast. Cute little place, counter facing the street. 6-8 stools. I was welcomed when I walked in and greeted with an awesome smile. I picked my order, which he repeated to be sure he got it right. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with LT and mayo on a ciabatta. The chicken was grilled to perfection. It was the perfect temperature for my sandwich. Nothing worse than cold chicken on my sandwich. The tomatoes were good, for being out of season, shredded lettuce, another favorite of mine! The ciabatta was perfect. Had a nice snap to it and very flavorful. I'll definitely be back here again when I travel in from Beverly. As a side note, they must be doing something right with smoothies as well. Professor's Market is a deli/sub shop in downtown Reading. It has perhaps the worst name in the region for a sub shop. If you don't know what it is, you'll never wander in there. I went by it for many years and had no idea it was a casual eating place. Anyway, I stopped by yesterday afternoon and got a Mambo Italiano--their version of an Italian sub. It's a clean, attractive place, not too large with a few places to sit down. Likely, most take out as I did. The sub came on a braided roll (not a sub roll) and was quite large. Though Market Basket makes decent subs, I disagree with the reviewer who thought their subs were about the same as Professor's fresh rolls. The roll was stuffed with tasty cold cuts. Lower quality Italian cold cuts can be fatty and tough sometimes but these were high quality meats. They also appear to use a thick fresh mozzarella, which was excellent, probably better than the traditional provolone. All in all, it was a very generous sandwich, a bargain for $12 compared to other shops in the area. But my lower rating derives from the fact that the woman who made it never asked what I wanted on it (mayo, oregano, tomato, etc.). She just went to the back and immediately started making it. I thought she would ask when it was time to finish it, but she never did. I don't recall a single shop which doesn't ask what to put on their subs, so I was surprised. And the station where she worked was far enough away that I couldn't see what she was doing either. I tend to order my subs without vegetables--just meat, cheese and various condiments--but when I got home, I found it was covered with helpings of sort of an Italian tomato relish, which I had to remove. I ate the whole sub but that issue made it an annoying experience. read more

Back then it was an outstanding above average, flavorful Italian sandwich on a crusty chewy bread that was so good it almost made your jaw tired chewing it. Well seasoned with a drizzle oil. Now. Now the rolls are Piantadosi that you get most places including Market Basket. They aren't bad. They just don't make you feel that you are eating a $13 sandwich. Questions: Who makes an Italian with out cheese? - Professors does. I wished they asked if I wanted cheese added: I would have gladly paid for it ( already an almost $14 sandwich, what the hell, what's another $2 for cheese) Maybe it's my fault for assuming. I've never had an Italian that didn't come with provolone cheese. Do you want everything?, she asked. I replied, No. Pickles, onion, tomato. Again, she asked but still got it wrong? This is what I thought as I bit into roasted red peppers. Good thing the all toppings were so skimpy and I didn't have to pick much off. Tipping culture I feel that I tip generously. I never tip less than 30% at a sit down restaurant. Don't believe me? Call Border Cafe is Saugus and ask for Ana. Ask her if Christina leaves a good tip. I ordered my sandwich and the girl walked away to make it but then abruptly aborted mission to come back to the register to watch me enter the tip amount that was programmed on the credit card machine screen. She starred me down until I finished. Apparently she was only pleased enough to create a mediocre sandwich. Conclusion: Try it. You may like expensive edible sandwiches. But please, this Sicilian girl pleads with you, don't forget to ask for cheese! Maybe you won't be mad if you have some cheese. When I worked in the area, I came everyday and ordered a carrot juice with ginger. I was in town recently and decided to see if they still made my order right, and, confirmed, they do. Little to no pulp and a nice balance with the ginger. I've also catered from them before, and they provide really nice, rich, Italian comfort food. I have given my Professor's friendship multiple tries, both for breakfast and lunch/dinner items. I want it to be great as it's a wonderfully designed, new neighborhood prepared food spot that we were sorely lacking in Reading. The menu is fantastic, the food is fresh, the service generally decent. But the consistency is lacking considerably, as well as value. The Pugliese sandwich should come with prosciutto, why did mine arrive without it? On a different occasion, the Standard breakfast sandwich should come on an everything bagel with fresh red onion, onion jam, egg and a meat choice. Why did I receive a plain bagel with no such onion accompaniments? Perhaps the provolone cheese I ordered on the meatball sub was good. I wouldn't know, my sub didn't come with any cheese. I could let these inconsistencies ride if the prices weren't premium, but they are. $9.00 for a sad looking meatball sub with four meatballs (and no cheese) doesn't get me rushing back into the store, especially with the local competition what it is. I want to be friends, honestly I do, that's the point of this review. But I think it's time to break off this friendship. read more

This place is awesome! Huge variety of options to choose from. They have gluten free sub rolls too which is a huge plus! Like all gluten free bread, it is a bit dry but that is expected. I ordered a turkey wrap on the GF bread. Pieces of the turkey were dried up on the edge, and the only real flavor to it was a thin layer of the basil aoli spread. If they added another type of sauce instead of covered it in the aoli, the sandwich would have more flavor. A tiny bit pricey, but the sandwiches and wraps are huge so it's worth it. Th e coffee is also great! Keep in mind, parking is limited as well as the seating inside. During the busy lunch rush, I recommend getting something to go. read more

I had a Standard breakfast sandwich (fried egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, and caramelized onions) holy friggin crap was it good. The fruit salad is truly cut pieces of fruit (not the processed cut pieces found in supermarket fruit salad). There's a full coffee bar, a full smoothie bar, and even a full juice bar. There's prepared meals, and a Boar's Head deli. If you leave disappointed, that's on you! There's ordinary fresh, then there's Professor's Market fresh. They set a new bar. read more

I was craving for a juice place near my house and I found this place on yelp! There is street parking and a small parking area attached to the building. I stopped in and the store is very clean and new. I was pleasantly surprised. There is a vast selection of snacks, drinks, beverages, sandwich and juice/smoothie selections. I got a juice which came in a rather small container and a sandwich. The juice was roughly $7 after tax which is relatively inexpensive for other juices closer to the Boston area. Yummy! Yesterday I got takeout for me and my husband and we both loved our lunches. I got a Frankie the Meatball Sub, Mambo Italiano, and Eggplant Rollatinis. The Eggplant Rollatinis were the best! I wish that I could've ordered a side of meatballs instead of a sub; trying to keep my carb intake down. However, since they make their own delicious bread it was worth eating half the roll. I went for the Italian: fresh bread, cold cuts, really awesome cheese, and the works (promised lettuce, tomatoes, and onions). I also got fresh carrot juice which was really good. Why 3 stars? Service was pretty weak. We asked for no cheese on one of the sandwiches but both came with cheese. Asked to eat inside but got our food packed to go. Never received lettuce that I was promised. Also, the amount of cold cuts I got in a $10 Italian sandwich was ridiculously small. I felt that the size/price ratio was just not right. read more
