I tried one of their Italian subs today and was frankly disappointed. The sandwich looked good but was a little juicy/messy. I kept looking at this great sandwich and wondered why it did taste better. It didn't taste bad just blah. Not much better than the corner sub shop. About 2 years ago when this place opened, i was in town for work and stopped by. The food and service was amazing! I have not been back to Reading since that visit, until today. Wow! The Pugliese just blew me away. Fresh flavors, eggplant, prosciutto, roasted red peppers, and mozzarella on really fresh ciabatta. I had originally booked the larger, well known catering company out of East Boston but cancelled after not being thrilled with the customer service in helping me deal with a gluten allergy. From my first phone call to Professors, Frank was friendly, thorough and accommodating in helping me figure out which options were best for my crowd. We ordered a Greek salad, eggplant rollatini, steak tips, sausages, broccoli rabi and chicken fingers. The overall favorite were the rollatini but everything exceeded my expectations. This place is a gem in a town with not so great eats. It has excellent sandwiches of course (high quality ingredients, good bread), and lots of prepared foods as well. Great coffee too! My favorite sandwich is the grilled chicken, and their fries are a standout (parm and rosemary). I also LOVE their quiche. Got 2 of them for an event and everyone raved about them - they were exceptional and HUGE. My ONLY suggestion on how this place could improve is that they could get better bagels for their breakfast sandwiches (like maybe go down the street and buy them from Bagel World). OK friends and neighbors of Readings, here is the type of business that we want to populate our downtown center. I've only been there once, but my immediate impression is they care about the quality of products and the level of service they provide. We need to have a vibrant downtown community where it's a pleasure to go to. We don't want to see multiple empty storefronts in such a small town. This is such a classy place. Come here sandwiches while my wife and I were visiting the area. Quick drive from my hotel and parking right out front. They had a great Italian specialty and deli selection. Everything looked artisinal and smelled great. I purchased the buffolo chicken rice balls (amazing) and we ordered a Italian cops cut sandwich (delicious). My only small complaint would be that I think there should be more meat on the sandwich. I had been to Professor's Market a few times to get sandwiches and smoothies and it's always been a great experience. They have gluten free bread, so I thankfully have lots of options. I recently decided to give their catering a try for my friend's bridal shower and I was not disappointed! I got a big spread including their chicken broccoli ziti, stuffed peppers, veggie lasagna, pizzas, caprese skewers, salads etc. Everything came out incredible. I had a recent dinner party at my home and decided to order from Professor's Market in Reading because I dropped in one day and everything looked great! Let me tell you now!!! The food here is fabulous! Everything was a hit. The Aracini are large and delicious, the stuffed mushrooms are amazing, the baked ziti and greek salad are massive. Fantastic market in downtown Reading. I just noticed it the other day and had to go in and check it out. Great assortment of home made foods. I tried an arancini ball and it was the best I've had. Not greasy at all. It was hard to decide on what to get they had so much cool and delicious sounding pre-made meals. Sadly, no hot soup was out yet when we went so I got a pre-made chicken noodle soup. Delicious but did leak on the way home. I loved being able to add my own spices to it so it was just to my liking. I got a croissant breakfast sandwich early on in Sunday afternoon. Even though I went in after their posted breakfast hours they happily made it. I wish there were more seating. When I went in the place was not busy. Next time I will try my sandwich with an extra fried egg. The potato salad was a little bland, but was good because their was not a lot of mayo. I had stopped by for a menu and tried a dessert a while ago, but wanted to go back and have a meal. I loved my goat cheese salad. It was chock full of good things and very satisfying. My husband enjoyed his hefty-sized meatball sandwich. They carry Polar Seltzers at a reasonable price, which I appreciate - I'm not a sugary soda drinker, although I think they carry those too. They were giving samples of their Nutella brownie, which was awesome. So we ordered desserts to bring home. Where do I begin? This was the best experience I've ever had with a caterer. "Frank" at Professors Market took such great care of us! It was a very special occasion- a retirement party for our father with over 100 guests. Naturally, I was nervous because I wanted everything to be perfect. Frank was amazing. He met with us several weeks before the party to give us suggestions and even samples of some of the food. He was kind and professional and knowledgeable... We knew immediately we were in good hands. Over the next few weeks, he was available whenever we had a question or wanted to add something to the order. On the day of the party, he had several of his workers show up in a truck with all of the food. They were organized and on time. The food was unbelievable. All of our guests kept asking where we got it and I said, "Professor's Market" in Reading Ma!! Frank went above and beyond and made the party a huge success! Dined here this afternoon. I ordered a meatball sub on baguette and my boyfriend had the prosciutto/mozzarella on baguette. Both sandwiches were delicious and made with fresh ingredients. This new market in Reading is a little gem to pick up a few foods when you want an easy dinner. I tried the following items and found them as good as or even better than home made. Their chicken salad ,potato salad ,carrot salad ,green beans,hummus,orzo salad with feta pleased even the most fussy eaters in the family. In addition I purchased a wonderful crisp french baguette. I saw many other items which I intend to try next time I visit. The owner gave me a small taste of the foods I purchased so my decision would be easier. First time trying this place. Ordered the sicilian pizza. Just awful. Must have been 5 lbs of cheese on it and the dough was raw in the middle. Totally undercooked. But no wonder because the cheese prevented the dough from cooking. Perhaps if they cooked it more but who knows. Doesn't appear they do much take out pizza. Pizza box was put together AFTER the pizza was put in it. Huhhh...? While the place does present well, the staff that was there seems disorganized and overwhelmed. So overwhelmed at how amazing the food is. I had the steak bomb on a baguette and my fiancé had the chicken parm also on a baguette. The two subs were the best subs and sandwiches both of us have ever had.
