One of the excellent Roast Beef venues on the North Shore is Anthony's in Reading. While there's a huge menu of sandwiches, pizzas and Calzones, the man attraction here is the roast beef. The sandwich comes in 3 sizes: Super Beef (largest); $16 BIg Beef (medium): $14 Junior Beef (smallest): $13 We tried the medium size, prepared as a 3-way with cheese, barbecue sauce (Anthony's home made), and mayonnaise, on a toasted sesame bun. We also tried the junior, the smallest size, served on a grilled, buttered bun, was more than adequate (size-wise) to satisfy a serious midday hunger. Both were tender, well executed and flavorful. The meat was perfectly roasted, buttery soft, ideally rare, the roll was properly toasted and buttered, and the service was prompt. There's quite a wide menu, so there are plenty of options for the non-roast beef eater. The vegan in our group enjoyed a tasty vegetable wrap. The restaurant was clean and the kitchen efficient. Got a take out order and decided to try my first three way roast beef. The bread was tasty but way too much sauce for my taste. An interesting experience to try once, but not a style I'll get again. We also got a chicken Parmesan pizza which was an interesting concept, but the crust was think and not very good. The chunks of chicken were well cooked and those bites were far better than the rest of the pizza. They forgot our fried Oreos but luckily we checked the bag before leaving the parking lot. BEHEMOTH. MAMMOTH. Never in my life have I had a sandwich this HUGE... My husband and I came in for lunch and ordered two 3-way roast beef sandwiches. The flavor of the beef, sauce and cheese combo was excellent. The bun seemed bigger than average and was toasted nicely. My only "complaint" (which is just personal preference) is that the sandwich was just too big. There was too much beef for me. It became overwhelming to eat. Maybe they gave us the wrong size? This THE MOST disgusting pizza I have ever had in my life. When I got home and opened the box, the whole box was soggy with grease, and the pizza STUNK. I don't have any photos as we get take out from here quite often. Last night my husband wasn't feeling leftovers, so he got a special deli meat sub which he enjoyed. I got the chicken, broccoli, ziti and it had sooooo much sauce and the chicken was nice and tender. We decided to get their fries for the first time and they were delicious; reminded us of McDonald's. We highly recommend their rice plates! Every time it's great. One of the best "beeferies" around. Don't believe me, try it, ask a North Shore Beefer, or just go there. I have converted my family from the lame gray beef from they grew up on at the drive thru joints to what a real roast beef is. Anthony's beef is flavorful, served right on toasted bun, and cheese on the bottom. I go with James River and horseradish, I love horseradish. The fries are great and stay home. I'm from Nashville, so I expect a lot from restaurants that serve beef sandwiches. Imagine my surprise when this "Meat Beast" mountain of a sandwich was delivered! Paper thin slices of supremely tender, medium rare roast beef piled high on a fresh onion bun. Perhaps it's a local thing, but the meat was not seasoned, so it was a bit bland. However, I was offered it smothered in BBQ sauce or other toppings, which I declined, thinking the meat was preseasoned. My mistake. I know for next time. My spouse ordered a medium pepperoni and cheese calzone. Of course, I had to take a bite. This thing was stuffed to the gills with pepperoni. The cheese was nice and salty and had a nice bite to it. We are looking forward to leftovers tonight. The staff were polite and answered our questions thoroughly. The dining area is about what you'd expect for a place like this. I've never had a "good" or "great" experience here. Literally, everything is average - except for their prices, which are high. If you compare them to local fast food/pizza/sub shops, their pricing is steep. To top it all of; their staff is comprised of the rudest people. They are rude over the phone, they are rude in person. I come for the Super Beef three-way (the only way to Beef). About a year ago this place was very inconsistent so I stopped coming. Recently, the reviews on social media convinced me to return. I am VERY glad I did. They put more beef in their sandwiches than anyone else (I've been everywhere), the flavor is robust, and they add the perfect amount of sauce. Sometimes the bun is a bit over grilled IMO, but it's usually on point. I've had about 7-10 Beefs here over the last 2 weeks and can confirm they are highly consistent. We ordered 2 roast beef sandwiches and onion rings, to go. The roast beef was terrible. Instead of the normal thin sliced beef, it seemed to be chopped and had no flavor. The onion rings were of the thick ring variety. They were overcooked and had many small pieces, like we got the bottom of the barrel, stuffed in the to go bag. Disappointed. Usually purchased their pizza but tonight decided to get something different and sit at one of their tables. The eggplant parmigiana sandwich hardly had any eggplant in it. Bread was soggy. My daughter's chicken dinner was also very skimpy. Their prices however are not skimpy! And they would not serve us tap water; though a 10 once bottle of water was 2.50. BEWARE.
