One of the excellent Roast Beef venues on the North Shore is Anthony's in Reading. While there's a huge menu of sandwiches, pizzas and Calzones, the man attraction here is the roast beef. The sandwich comes in 3 sizes: Super Beef (largest); $16 BIg Beef (medium): $14 Junior Beef (smallest): $13 We tried the medium size, prepared as a 3-way with cheese, barbecue sauce (Anthony's home made), and mayonnaise, on a toasted sesame bun. We also tried the junior, the smallest size, served on a grilled, buttered bun, was more than adequate (size-wise) to satisfy a serious midday hunger. Both were tender, well executed and flavorful. The meat was perfectly roasted, buttery soft, ideally rare, the roll was properly toasted and buttered, and the service was prompt. There's quite a wide menu, so there are plenty of options for the non-roast beef eater. The vegan in our group enjoyed a tasty vegetable wrap. The restaurant was clean and the kitchen efficient. Highly recommend. read more

Spectacular classic roast beef place. The beef is fresh pink and warm the buns griddle perfectly. The sauce is mixed into the beef well. Just a classic. No need for no gourmet beefs, just time for great beefs. read more

Got a take out order and decided to try my first three way roast beef. The bread was tasty but way too much sauce for my taste. An interesting experience to try once, but not a style I'll get again. We also got a chicken Parmesan pizza which was an interesting concept, but the crust was think and not very good. The chunks of chicken were well cooked and those bites were far better than the rest of the pizza. They forgot our fried Oreos but luckily we checked the bag before leaving the parking lot. Nothing to write home about. read more

BEHEMOTH. MAMMOTH. Never in my life have I had a sandwich this HUGE... My husband and I came in for lunch and ordered two 3-way roast beef sandwiches. The flavor of the beef, sauce and cheese combo was excellent. The bun seemed bigger than average and was toasted nicely. My only "complaint" (which is just personal preference) is that the sandwich was just too big. There was too much beef for me. It became overwhelming to eat. Maybe they gave us the wrong size? Anyways, definitely come hungry to check out this place :) read more

Another 3 way! Was in the area and decide to give this place a try. They open earlier than some of the other roast beef shops in the area. I Was greeted right away as I walked in. Ordered my sandwich and took a seat. Food came out pretty quick. The meat was tender, bun was toasted and buttery. Have extra napkins ready, it's always messy eating one of these but oh so good. read more

The food and service is great! But for the past 2 years that I've been going there, once the weather is 75 degrees or more, you roast in there. The manager said there is a work order in for the ac...but that has been for a long time now. GET THE FREAKING AC FIXED CORPORATE before the place goes under. Or is that what they want? What a shame. FIX THE AIR CONDITIONER!!! read more

Roast beef and a sub, 37.00 Unfortunately, I ordered takeout when I got home. This is what I had one big messy roast beef sandwich with a burnt bun and I don't know what the sub is like. I'm pretty sure the person sneezed over my food when they were packing but I was not sure enough to say some . I was across the room so I know they didn't wash their hands or anything. Too bad because it seems like the food is fresh but there's no quality control. read more

This THE MOST disgusting pizza I have ever had in my life. When I got home and opened the box, the whole box was soggy with grease, and the pizza STUNK. I called Anthony's and, to their credit, they immediately refunded me. I don't know about the rest of the food, but I will never set food in that place again. read more

I don't have any photos as we get take out from here quite often. Last night my husband wasn't feeling leftovers, so he got a special deli meat sub which he enjoyed. I got the chicken, broccoli, ziti and it had sooooo much sauce and the chicken was nice and tender. We decided to get their fries for the first time and they were delicious; reminded us of McDonald's. We highly recommend their rice plates! Every time it's great. Their house dressing is delicious as well. read more

Polite staff and attentive. Overpriced for sure. I turned my head when I was told the total. Cheeseburger and fries for a six year old and a steak n' cheese sub, soda. Almost $40 my son said cheeseburger was good...he didn't finish it - it's an adult burger. The roll for the steak n'cheese was not toasted instead it was soggy. read more

One of the best "beeferies" around. Don't believe me, try it, ask a North Shore Beefer, or just go there. I have converted my family from the lame gray beef from they grew up on at the drive thru joints to what a real roast beef is. Anthony's beef is flavorful, served right on toasted bun, and cheese on the bottom. I go with James River and horseradish, I love horseradish. The fries are great and stay home. The waffles fries are amazing too. read more

GREAT pizza but wayyy too high priced. $20 to deliver a small cheese pizza plus I tipped $5.00. Others have complained about hours on the website being wrong, I found out today the prices are too! Super beef and small onion rings... On their website? $13. When you go to pay in store? $22! I'm from Nashville, so I expect a lot from restaurants that serve beef sandwiches. Imagine my surprise when this "Meat Beast" mountain of a sandwich was delivered! Paper thin slices of supremely tender, medium rare roast beef piled high on a fresh onion bun. Perhaps it's a local thing, but the meat was not seasoned, so it was a bit bland. However, I was offered it smothered in BBQ sauce or other toppings, which I declined, thinking the meat was preseasoned. My mistake. I know for next time. My spouse ordered a medium pepperoni and cheese calzone. Of course, I had to take a bite. This thing was stuffed to the gills with pepperoni. The cheese was nice and salty and had a nice bite to it. We are looking forward to leftovers tonight. The staff were polite and answered our questions thoroughly. The dining area is about what you'd expect for a place like this. I had to wipe down our table before eating. It and the others I saw needed a good wipe down. They weren't bad... just in need of a little spray and love. read more

I have been living in Reading for nearly 3 years - unfortunately, this pizza shop is the closest one to my house. I order from here often. Sadly. The food here is average, if not below average. I've never had a "good" or "great" experience here. Literally, everything is average - except for their prices, which are high. If you compare them to local fast food/pizza/sub shops, their pricing is steep. To top it all of; their staff is comprised of the rudest people. They are rude over the phone, they are rude in person. They seem annoyed to work there; they seem annoyed to assist customers. Going into the restaurant is always an awkward & tense experience. Overall, Anthony's is a headache. Order elsewhere. read more

I come for the Super Beef three-way (the only way to Beef). About a year ago this place was very inconsistent so I stopped coming. Recently, the reviews on social media convinced me to return. I am VERY glad I did. They put more beef in their sandwiches than anyone else (I've been everywhere), the flavor is robust, and they add the perfect amount of sauce. Sometimes the bun is a bit over grilled IMO, but it's usually on point. I've had about 7-10 Beefs here over the last 2 weeks and can confirm they are highly consistent. Anthony's is my new default Beefery. read more

I had read a review saying this place had the best calzones in the area, and hubby LOVES calzones so I figured we'd give it a shot away from our normal Saturday eatery. Though they don't offer a regular cheese calzone, which my husband prefers, he ordered the next best thing, which was the chicken parm calzone. I ordered the chicken finger dinner. I'm not sure if I just wasn't actually in the mood for it or what is was, but I just didn't feel satisfied afterwards. The strips of chicken were a little dry, but the waffle fries were delicious. I also ordered the garden salad which came with a scrumptious house Greek dressing. We'll have to try the midweek specials, as the bill was a bit pricey. Overall not. Bad experience. read more

We ordered 2 roast beef sandwiches and onion rings, to go. The roast beef was terrible. Instead of the normal thin sliced beef, it seemed to be chopped and had no flavor. The onion rings were of the thick ring variety. They were overcooked and had many small pieces, like we got the bottom of the barrel, stuffed in the to go bag. We did get extra tartar, which I asked for, although it tasted like a mix of Greek dressing and relish. Definitely would not go back. read more

Large pizza was meh. Too "bready", tasteless, not enough sauce. A SMALL pizza, ($16!!), had probably one leaf of basil on the whole pizza, and about half a tomato. Definitely not worth the price.
