Decent, average food. I've been 2x for breakfast only. It's what you'd expect from a mom and pop hole in the wall. Nothing will WOW you but nothing will disappoint you either. Yeah, they use paper plates and plastics utensils, but, that's how they keep the prices down and I'm fine with that. I'm glad that their home fries aren't deep fried...I hate that. Food is consistently good. And the lovely couple who run the place are always a pleasure. Sure, they have limited hours and they only accept cash, but there isn't another restaurant in this part of the state that provides this much value. It's the perfect small town restaurant. The best French fries I've ever had! Some people order them extra crispy. I always get the jr. roast beef with everything, fries and a fountain coke. I love the crushed ice. The owners (Val & Paul) are very friendly, fast and efficient. They do the work of 6 people. There's a few great roast beef places in Reading but this stands out because of the fries. read more

An incredible little diner. A family tradition for years, this quaint mom and pop sandwich shop has been providing tasty treats for generations. Great prices, and service that truly makes you feel at home. I recommend the hamburgers, they are affordable and delicious. Don't miss out on a little known restaurant right by the train station. The first time I went I didn't realize it closed early and I didn't have cash. And I only realized this after we had ordered and they had locked the door. The waitress smiled, and told me it wasn't a problem - I could come back at a later date to pay my tab. Plastic silverware, paper plates and napkins, and squares of american cheese melted on top of the omelettes. I'm more used to upscale hipster places with dish towel napkins - this place was so refreshing. The food was perfect on a hangover, and I can't say enough about it. Fairly priced food that tastes homemade. My son loved his cheese burger, my daughter finished her white american grilled cheese sandwich, the fries are typical deep fried but have a lot of flavor, my fish sandwich was good although a bit on the thin side. I did like how they toasted the bun just a bit before serving it, although the tartar sauce in a packet wasn't very good. In a mom and pop restaurant like this, I would've thought they had made their own! My son said his roast beef sandwich was the best he has had in MA, so far. You order at the counter and they have typical fare: breakfast are eggs and omelet only-- with toast, home fries, bagels etc. Lunch has cold sandwiches, hot ones, burgers, chicken fingers etc. You can get canned or fountain soda. Once you order, you sit and they will bring it to you, or you can get it to go. We saw numerous kids in there, plenty of seating and easy parking. **CASH ONLY*** and no ATM inside. read more

Don't be fooled by the less than stellar interior of this place. Though their menu may be 30 years old and there's only two people working, this place is the best of the best in Reading. What's better proof than the fact that some people have been coming here for 30 straight years? I always get the Jr. beef with a side of fries and it never disappoints. They pack in enough roast beef to fill you up and the fries are hard to beat. Other favorites include the grilled cheese and eggs for breakfast. Great food - both lunch and breakfast! I have been going here for YEARS...30+...I also recognize MANY people going for the same amount of time! Valerie and Paul work hard and are in VERY early in the morning to ensure the food is made fresh daily, and you can tell for sure! My daughter will only eat their tuna - no place else can compare. Their roast beef is the best! You cannot get a breakfast for a lower cost anywhere, and it is delicious! P.S. The blinds are drawn to keep the sun out of the patrons' eyes on the sunny days!! I go out of my way to get lunch from here at least twice a month. The food is SO tasty and the prices are reasonable. Val and Paul are unbelievably talented, dedicated, and hard working. Val has the uncanny talent of recognizing my voice (even when I have a cold and am on a speakerphone!). When I walk in the store she knows who I am and what I ordered even though it's not written down. She's amazing! Paul, is heads-down cooking and takes the order details verbally from Val and has never messed up a single order of mine. I don't know how he does it! This is a GREAT family establishment.
